  1. It’s good to hear that. Glad it worked for you! My weight shot yo when I went on lithium. I always had a hard time losing, but it became impossible on Lithium. Just impossible. Hoping the sleeve works.
  2. I had gastric bypass Jan 18. My highest weight was 235. My day of surgery I weighed 192. My current weight today is 136. Boy has it been a journey of ups and downs but well worth it. I will however be getting plastics in the near future. I went from a 38 DDD to a b cup full of skin YUCK!

My *** plan covers 100% for BMI 40+. For BMI under 40, a person needs to have 2 well documented comorbidities. All surgery patients have to go through Psych evaluation, 3 months (4 appointments) of supervised medical weight loss, an upper endoscopy, visit with dietician, 2-3 weeks of liquid diet (dependent on BMI) and anything else that may come up (I had to see a vascular specialist because I have blood clotting disorders). I have done everything through my surgeon’s office - so easy and they are really nice. I am 2.5 months in on the supervised medical weight loss and having my endoscopy and dietician visit next month. Should be good for surgery in Sept or Oct, depending on COVID and the schedule of my surgeon (they had over 3,000 surgeries to reschedule after the first outbreak of COVID). I will submit to be approved once I complete everything. Hope this helps!
  4. I completed a year of medical weight loss with no luck. I was put on phentramine a week and a half ago and already lost 7lbs. I am happy with how it’s going, but I know as soon as I stop I will gain it right back. I have started the process for vsg, but I’m so scared. I have to wait ten weeks to complete a few insurance requirements and then surgery can be scheduled if I want to go that route. So many mixed feelings! I’ve had therapy and am through with emotional eating. What scares me most is that I’m a single mom to a wonderful six year old little girl. I’ve had a falling out with my family so it’s just the two of us. That makes surgery more difficult. Making a permanent change to my body is scary too. I know deep down it is what I need to do. I want to be able to do everything with my daughter, especially amusement park rides. I’m never want to go on them because I don’t want to be embarrassed if I don’t fit! Anyone else have a similar situation or any advice?

    July Sleevers

I was sleeved in July 2011, and lost almost exactly 100 pounds. The six months ago I plateaued out and have been up three and down three every week since. I am at 155 and can't move the scale an ounce. I should get to 135 for ideal weight but to tell the truth, I'm a very happy camper with the VGS results if I stay here forever.
  7. I just had a baby 3 months ago girl.. I will completely honest it will be a little tougher to lose the weight, BUT you can totally lose the weight. I promise you if you stick with everything your suppose to then it will happen. Just push forward and everything will be fine. Hope this gives you some encouragement..

    No one told me

I'm two years out from sleeve. I wish I had been told more about the emotional aspects of it too. Not everyone will be happy for you. With each phase there will be comments. For me, I just had to realize there were comments when I was big and now there are comments when I'm smaller. I've learned to tell people to mind their own bees wax. I also didn't know there were going to be so many victories and so much to relearn. I had to relearn how to walk. It sounds funny but I carry myself completely different with 118 lbs gone. It was interesting to find my stride and to learn to walk in heels differently or across a parking lot quickly. Sometimes I just giggle. I also didn't know it was going to be difficult to find clothes in my size. Apparently most stores only carry average size 8-14 in the ladies section. I'm still over weight for my height and I am in a 4/6. I'm finding that if stores do carry that size that they don't always carry a wide variety. I'm not a young spring chicken so I'm not exactly crazy about the styles in some of the junior stores. Lastly, I didn't know how men would respond different. I am very happily married and I didn't do all of this to catch some other guys eye. It kind of pisses me off sometimes how much men will flirt, make inappropriate comments, open doors for me, etc now, when they never did it before. to be quite honest, sometimes it pissy me off because I still think I am the same person inside, the only thing that changed was my weight. Any who, it's a learning process. Ya just kind of have to work through it.

    Anxiety post surgery anyone?

Nope. WLS was absolutely the best decision for me. It's hard but living obese was so much harder. You can do this. Just surround yourself with support and keep to the program. Once the weight starts coming off you'll feel better. I did!

    Need Help!!!

Hi Holly, it may be because you moved to the mushie stage. It is quite common to gain weight between mushy and even solids. Your caloric intake should be anywhere between 600-800 or 1k maximum. That is what the Dieticians recommend. I would wait it out a few more days or up your calories to 900-1k and see how you do. Don't be too discouraged. Now is the time to heal. The weight loss will come after you begin fills. Good luck.
  11. I have not been lost any weight in about a week and I am almost 4 weeks out from being banded. I am on soft solid foods and have been ok with it. I have tried to stay away from high carbs. I usually walk about 2 miles everyday. So here is what I didn't realize, I am not getting a lot calories throughout the day and I thought I must be getting to many. I just logged my food intake into Daily Plate and I only got 691 calories today. Is this ok or is this a reason I am staying at the same weight? I didn't weigh today because my next weigh day is tomorrow. Do I need to be getting more calories? How should I go about this without snaking. I am so lost in this process. I want to lose the weight and I know they say focus on healing at this point and I am but I have cut back on how much I eat and I am not losing anything.......HELP!!!!! Thank you in advance for reading and commenting!!!!
  12. I just hit Onederland this morning and now I'm faced with making a final goal. To those who are now on maintenance, how did you pick your final goal? Did you pick a final number and worked to hit that? Or did you just let your body do what it was going to do and once it stopped that was it? My goal was 175 but the weight loss has been so quick with no stalls or slow downs that I'm starting to think maybe I should go lower. But I can't imagine my body at less than 175. It seems so weird and foreign to me. So what do you think? What should I do? What did you do or what do you plan to do? Thanks!
  13. I had my sleeve 27th July. Fully understand how you feel. Try to think positive why did you want the procedure to lose weight and back gain control. I have to remind myself everyday. The reality is that It's so hard to adjust and so dammed frustrating. Dealing with hunger wind and nausea. Suck mints for the wind and nausea. Don't eat diet foods you are eating so little your body needs the extra nourishment. Diet foods have added chemicals which can upset your stomach. Don't wait for mealtimes, try snacking regularly. This will help keep your stomach busy and stop it filling with salvia and wind. And eat very very slowly. Eat high Protein foods. Don't forget your Protein drinks like slim fast. Things to try one weetabix made milky, Porridge made milky, Fage total 2% Greek yoghurt is very high in protein. Mashed banana Cream cheese. Pate Try a crisp-bread. I managed it. Chew till mush. You can try these but be careful blend and eat slowly... Very soft scrambled egg Cottage cheese Tuna Salmon Soft Vegetables Don't forget to try to build up to 1.700 quarts of Water a day . Dehydration causes sickness and hunger. Hope this helps xox Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. I am not positive, but I think the appropriate comment is Congrats for losing so much weight?? LOL
  15. Found out that my surgen is a Christian and will pray with me before surgery! What a weight lifted off my shoulders! I surrender my fears to the Lord!

Congratulations on starting your journey! I would say outside of the medical advise of your surgeon/doctor, the most helpful thing I could offer would be to be prepared to do the difficult emotional work that comes with this journey. I wasn't necessarily prepared for the realization that the emotional issues driving me to overeat in the first place would re-emerge on my sleeve journey. I had to deal with those or I would only have been initially successful, but not successful in keeping the weight off long term.

    60-65% of Excess Weight?

My surgeon uses your very first weigh in from your consultation since they expect you to start losing during your six month medically supervised weight management process prior to surgery. Using myself as an example, I weighed 242 the day of my consult and my surgeon put my excess body weight at 123 lbs. Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App

Sleeved 8/23/16 - HW 271.5 (4/16) SW 246.9 CW 205.1 From size 20-22 pants to size 14-12 right now. About 50 pounds to goal. If you are not already using it, use My Fitness Pal and track every ounce of food and Water that goes into your body. It keeps you honest. I weigh myself daily. (Some people do weekly but I find daily keeps me honest.) Make sure you have healthy options in the house so you never have to be looking around for a snack. Try different kinds of Protein powders now in the small sample sizes to see which ones you like or don't like and start experimenting with shakes. Pre-surgery for three months I did a Protein shake every morning for Breakfast -- and worked on playing with flavors, fruit, coffee-house syrups, etc. Start exercising - walk around the block, swim, join a gym. move your body and schedule time for it. Plan rewards for various weight goals -- 25 pounds - new lipstick? 50 pounds - new dress? Start a private pinterest board with fashions you want to try as you get thinner Research thrift and consignment shops in your area - you are going to need them. If you don't have a good scale, buy one. (I have a Withings, which sends my weight directly to My Fitness Pal. Consider purchasing a fitness tracker. (I use a Garmin Vivosmart HR and love it. I think it's much better than the Fitbit models.) Get your head in the right place - the surgery isn't going to solve any problem you may have with emotional eating - if that's part of your issue, get help now - work with a therapist or other counselor. Get a good pair of sneakers. Start by walking a little more now. Park 15 spaces away from the grocery store this week. 25 spaces next week. It's all incremental. Protein is your friend. Start counting your grams of protein. After surgery, your rules will likely be protein first, everything else after. I average 60-90 grams of protein a day and I eat about 800 calories a day now. Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt and Fairlife Skim Milk are your friends. I'm at the point now where I can eat anything, even bread, but I don't. Sometimes I'll have half a slice of whole wheat toast. Barilla makes a high protein Pasta (yellow box) which is really good. Once you get a surgery date, find a group here on BP to chat with that are all having surgery in the same month. Attend your hospital or clinic's support group meetings regularly. Best of luck with finding the new you. I wish I had done this 15 years ago.

    My first fill!

I had my first fill today! I'm so excited. I've been in banster hell since week 3 or so. Lost 23 in that time then gained 5 back. Hoping this will help this week. I was so surprised that he gave me 5cc! I was expecting a much smaller fill. I'm a little afraid of all the pb-ing and getting stuck stuff. Guess I will take it reallllllly slow!
  21. I am a dispatcher and work 2 months night shift, 2 months day shift, 12 hr shifts. I am on nights right now, for January and February. Most of the advice that I have found on the Internet, and from the medical profession, for weight loss, is hard to apply when you work shift work. It's on thing to say eat healthy snacks. It's another thing to be awake at 3am when everyone is sleeping, and just want comfort food. So I think we face an extra challenge as night workers, but it is possible to lose weight, especially after WLS.
  22. 1st of all, I'm so sorry for the loss of your husband and dad. 5 yrs ago, I also lost my husband at age 46 (I was 40), so I know the depression and weight gain that it causes. Please try to find a support group for widows - it helped me tremendously. Ok, you want the top ten things? Here you go: 1. Don't drink while you're eating or for 30-45 minutes afterwards. They say it's because you wash down whats in your tummy before the fullness feeling. I can't drink while eating because it caused me to vomit. 2. Make sure you only eat the amount directed by your dr. Some say 1 cup, some 3/4 of a cup. Follow your drs advisments. Snack only if directed by your dr 3. AVOID VOMITING AT ALL COSTS! For 2 yrs, I ate way too fast and caused myself to vomit (not really pb'ing, as it's much more violent but only food comes up) about 4-6x a week. My band finally had it last year and slipped. I'm still paying for that decision. 4. Exercise. Looks like you're already doing that tho! 5. Don't drink your calories. Like grape juice has like 100 calories a cup, Water has 0. 6. Get your Protein in. If you have a choice between protein and carbs, choose the protein first 7. Make sure you get fills when necessary. The band doesn't work if you're not adjusted properly 8.Watch your calories. With only eating 1 cup per meal, the calories should be fine and you probably won't need to count them, but I do in my head anyway. 9. I don't do this but keep a journal of everything you eat. Studies say that people who write down everything they eat, lose more weight. 10. Don't drink soda! Whether it's diet or not. The carbonation wreaks havoc with your band. Hope that helps a little. I'm sure there's more "rules" but I'm not one for many rules and break them all the time! You shouldn't need to "diet" while the band is actually working, but until you get proper restriction, you may need to. Good luck to you! And you will be happy again someday. I promise. I thought I'd never be happy again after losing my husband. 5 yrs later, I'm remarried and loving my new life. I still thik about Kevin with fond memories, but I'm so happy now I could burst! Marci
  23. how do you get those great body weight tickers
  24. I want my kids and my family to see the weight going.... They're really a big encouragement.. The most negative was a guy that I'd been dating for about a year... But this isn't about or for him... So I let go and did what was best for me. And I'm LOVING IT
