You’re only a few days post op! Give it time. Follow the intake and dietary guidelines your program gave you. The weight will come off if you do. You’re body is still likely in the process of dropping all the extra fluids they gave you during surgery.

It WAS easy! - Confessions of a lazy loser - Almost a year out
dal101 replied to MandoGetsSleeved's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is me. I just spent the last 3 weeks eating whatever because I had started a new job. I have had deviations from my diet before but 3 weeks was the longest. I weighed myself today and didnt gained thank God, but still I wasted those 3 weeks. I am a slow loser too, but there are many things I dont do. Like I calorie count but I eat anything, I dont bother with macros or look into how much water I drink. I dont exercise and I dont take my supplements (eek!) Like , I keep thinking I wanna reach my goal sooner but I get lazy because of the effort involved. -
March surgeries
Butterflyeffect replied to Hopefulin2021's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It’s my 5 month surgiversary today!! Best decision I have ever made! I have lost 81 pounds in total, 68 post surgery. Not only do I feel so much healthier but there are so many non scale victories too. Only real downside has been losing so much hair but I would still have gone ahead with the surgery. I set my goal weight to 165 pounds because I actually don’t know how I would look at that weight as an adult. I may revise it when I get there, but it feels pretty good to be so much closer to that goal. I really hope you’re all doing well and are happy to have had the surgery. I’d love to hear about your journeys to date, the good and even the not so good 😊. Below is a before picture and one taken yesterday. I hated being in photos so I didn’t take one just before surgery but I now wish I had. -

First I want to say thank you to so many of the veteran posters on here. I hope you gals and guys know how much your experiences and feedback have helped me and I suspect many others. There's just such a fantastic mix of people and experiences - It's great knowing you aren't alone in this journey. The first few months after surgery were easy. The weight was simply falling off, there wasn't anything I couldn't eat or drink - And better yet, I couldn't overeat because of the restriction. I felt fantastic most of the time, had all sorts of NSV's and loved my new life. From August until January I lost almost 50lbs - I was so close to Wonderland I could taste it. THEN reality struck - Suddenly I was one of those "slow losers" - It took almost 2 months to lose 13lbs. UGH, I WAS going to be one of those slow losers. OK, fine, I'm 52 and it is what it is, right? From January until May, I "only" lost 33lbs. Again, every week/month I told myself that I would lose the weight, I was just in some sort of a stall and things would magically pick up. Well, they didn't, I would lose 2-3 lbs and then I would gain 2-3 lbs. Again, "it's normal" I told myself. Fast forward to a week ago - I jumped on here for some motivation (reading stories, etc.) and I took a hard look at what I was doing. Basically, I was being lazy - I was eating whatever I wanted and justifying it by saying "I only eat small portions" - Well, yeah, that was true...BUT I was grazing, I was drinking too much alcohol, and I wasn't tracking. I honetly have no idea how many calories I was consuming (especially on weekends with family and friends). I played mind games with myself and said "As long as I'm not gaining, I'm doing things right." - Well, that was a giant load of (@*$. This past Tuesday (after a weekend of Mimosa's, Crown Royal, and some really great BBQ), I woke up to a 5lb gain (BTW, yes I realize some of that was water retention). WAKE UP CALL. 5lbs? Seriously - Time to go back to basics before that's a 10lb gain. For the first time in MONTHS, I tracked every thing I tracked everything that went into my mouth (water, food, etc) - I did 3 days of liquid - In two days, those 5lbs were off. Rather than what I've done in the past, I didn't stop there - I continued tracking, I continued being cognizant of what and when I was eating. I said "no" to many things that I thought I wanted. I lost 6.8lbs from Tuesday to Sunday. What? I'm NOT a slow loser - I'm a LAZY loser. Folks, for many of us, it's EASY in the first few months, it's EASY to convince ourselves that we're doing OK, it's EASY to compare ourselves to others, it's EASY to ignore signs that you're falling into bad habits, and it's EASY to get lazy. In reality, it's HARD to stick to your plan when you're feeling fantastic and patting yourself on the back for losing so much weight. I'm choosing to be thankful that this happened now rather than 2-3 years into it. I'm glad that reality smacked me in the face and forced me to face the fact that i wasn't doing what I needed to do. Right now it was EASY to get back on track before I let it get out of control. For those of you experiencing the same - Buckle up buttercup, start tracking, weigh yourself often if you need to, and take a good look and when and why you're losing weight and when and why you aren't. Again, a very special thank you to you old timers for always keeping things real and giving out such fantastic advice. -
Revision; VSG to RNY
mae7365 replied to EllieV's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision from VSG to Bypass October 2020 due to severe gastritis, esophagitis and Reflux. I'd been on PPI medication for GERD since well before my sleeve surgery, but it only got worse after. Drugs no longer had any impact and I couldn't sleep unless I was in a recliner. I saw my surgeon in August of 2020, had all the testing done to verify the diagnosis and my insurance approved within a month. I have Aetna insurance, but when the surgery is "medically necessary", it moves pretty quick. I was "overweight", but not obese at the time of the bypass, so weight gain was not a factor in the insurance approval. But I don't think it would have changed the medical necessity of the surgery. Good news - the surgery was a success, acid reflux is gone, I now sleep in a bed and I've lost almost 60 pounds since surgery. Recovery was rough - I'm a "dumper", so I still have to be careful what I eat, but I am so very happy that I made the decision to have the revision. Good luck with your surgery! -
Have you had the “Hiatal Hernia Surprise” Fix?

I haven't had weight loss surgery yet, but one of the requirements before surgery was to have an upper endoscopy. I had that last week and during it they found a hiatal hernia. -
Broke through a months long stall. What worked and why.

I was having a great deal of trouble losing weight from my arms and saddlebags. I started researching things and everything clicked. There are many videos on YouTube about it and I started reading about the different texture that skin has when there is lipedema under the surface. Im in the process of trying to obtain a pump to help rid my body of excess fluid and break down scar tissue in my legs. -
They happen. Just stick to your plan & they will break. Your body is taking a break to catch up with all the changes - diet, weight loss, surgery, etc. It’s been through a lot. I never changed a thing I was doing (why stress my body more) & I always started to lose again. You will too. Good luck.

I'm so excited and just have to share the news that insurance has approved surgery! I have been going through all of the motions since January and am so excited! A little about me: I'm 46, mother of two kids (10 & 7), and I teach 6th grade. I had medullary thryoid cancer and my thyroid was removed in 2008. Even though my thyroid hormone levels are within range, weight has been a problem ever since the removal of my thyroid. Have I mentioned that I am SO EXCITED?!?

I can't make up my mind!

For what it's worth (n=1), my migraines disappeared once my weight started to drop. And while I used to like coffee, it tastes so strange now . . . I just don't want it anymore. -
I had my sleeve 8 years ago and have been battling severe GERD for two years and serious weight gain since my hysterectomy just last December. Now, I am miserable and weak. 10-20 tums a day, unable to properly take my medications because I throw them up. Cannot eat because I throw it all up too. Just ordered some syntax iced tea and protein soups. I’m taking 80mg protonix daily and wake up choking on my bile bile at night. My PCP dismissed me. Saw her PA and at no time did she even look down my throat. Got a referral to a GI and they called to have a consult in a month! A consult! Only! Called my old bariatric surgeon and he’s not in my insurance network and I can’t afford him. Called one in town and have an appointment on the 9th. But if it requires a revision, I don’t know if it’s covered on my insurance. I’m losing hope. I feel like everyone else has since I’ve been dismissed at every turn. My brain is fuzzy, my eyes are sunken. Work is hard. I pretend I’m fine and eat at company meetings then go quietly to the bathroom to throw everything up. I’m miserable. I need an answer but no medical professionals seem to be in a hurry.

Deposit down! Surgery in Sept. 5'0" / 214

Hi Rachel! Our stats are almost identical. My VSG procedure is in October and I'm a bit nervous and sooooo ready. Right now, I'm looking into weight training so that I can get a headstart on tightening up my skin. Best of luck on your journey! -
I have the same thing going on with me. I am 4 years out 8/9 VSG and 14 months revised RNY. My relationship with food has changed. Its a chore to eat and I am not in the mood most of the time. My weight is starting to drop again. I weighed in at 148.8 this morning. So I made some mac n cheese to go with some leftover meatloaf. I was actually excited to eat, lol. Yeah, so depending on what the food is makes a lot of difference too. I didnt have this issue with VSG and I think its because I still felt normal when I ate and could still eat what I wanted just in smaller portions. My views and relationship with food in maintenance were the same pre surgery as far as what I ate. RNY not the same. I dont have the same sense of fullness as I did before I ever had surgeries or the way it did with VSG. In fact I mostly dont feel anything but if I eat one bite over I am deathly ill and the same thing goes if I eat the wrong foods. So I feel this is why I not interested and I rarely feel hungry so why bother . SIGH

July 2021 Surgery People!
tboston03 replied to Sammys_VSG_Evolution's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The best advice that I can offer is to breathe and remember why you are having the procedure. I, too, freaked out a couple days before surgery. I thought to myself that if I am losing weight without having my anatomy altered, then why do it. Then I remembered that I also struggled for so long and give up when it seems as if the weight wasn’t dropping fast enough. I also remembered that I don’t want the diseases associated with obesity. Just remember your “Why”. -
Today is 68 days since my VSG surgery. I am down 26.9 pounds. But still the same sized clothing though they are looser. Seems like my weight has been the same for a while. However, June 30th I was at 235.6 and today I am at 228.8 so I am down and that is a good thing. I can eat pretty much anything I want. I am hungry all the time. I do get in my protein most days and that is by eating and not by shakes. Though I do still drink shakes now and then. I have not started working out. That is my plan for this coming week. I want to start walking 3 days a week and working out the other 3 with one day of rest. I hope you all are dong well. How is your progress?

@angel22 Are you a weight loss patient/future weight loss patient?
-
Yeah, one of the things I like to remind those starting out is to take regular pictures throughout the process…its really cool to look at them all side by side later! 😂 I was pretty much normal-sized up to about age 30. Started packing on the pounds after I popped out the Kid. I’m guessing i got to obese level in my mid-30’s, and morbidly obese level in my early 40’s. I’m 49 today. Lol, there’s no secret: i ate ALOT less and moved around ALOT more (i was lucky to have no known medical conditions that would impede weight loss, so my body operated on “calories-in-calories-out” pretty predictably). Oh, and i was on Team Very-very-Little-Net-Carbs throughout….i know the carb topic can get “lively” on here, so I’ll just leave it at that, lol. Good Luck!❤️

Thank you so much for posting this! It's really inspiring! I'm at the same starting weight and hoping to get to similar place. What is your secret! A Also, a question if you don't mind... were you heavy for a long time? I'm hoping my skin shrinks as well as yours pre-ps (I'm only 3 weeks post op, so long time to go). But I've been overweight/obese my entire life and scared it won't have a baseline to shrink to

I had RNY, but my liver enzymes were elevated the first year or so. My PCP said thought it was probably fatty liver, but then I read online (some reliable medical site) that elevated liver enzymes were not uncommon after WLS because the rapid weight loss can be really hard on livers. I had them re-tested later, and they were normal - so I think that's what was going on. Not sure why this possibility didn't occur to my PCP, but maybe she doesn't see many bariatric patients. I'm not saying this the cause of yours, but I think it was in my case. In any case, mine are normal now. EDITED to add I just re-read your post and you said your liver was enlarged. So your enzyme levels may be due to something else. I don't know if my liver was enlarged since that was never checked - but my enzyme levels were definitely high.

Broke through a months long stall. What worked and why.
perfektlynrml posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello. It’s been a while since I posted here but I have been busy figuring out how to get past a months long stall and some sugar addiction. First, I found out that I have lipedema which is a connective tissue disorder. It’s an abnormal collection of fat that is no longer in it’s original spongy condition. It is literally scar tissue and adhesions under the skin that do not let go of fat easily. I have huge amounts of it on the lower body and some on my arms. The change that worked for me was specific exercises using a vibration plate on the fat deposits and other mechanisms that can be found on the internet. Second, I ended up switching to healthy keto and that made a great difference in the movement of the scale. I’m down a few pounds now and I no longer have the sugar cravings. I also have gotten better about setting limits on other people monopolizing my time. I’m prioritizing myself and it is really starting to show. I’d be happy to share more if anyone is interested in the connection between stalled weight loss after Bariatric surgery and the condition known as lipedema. It’s not a broadly known condition but it is starting to get attention. I can share some of the resources that I have used in the past few months. Before and 7 months post RNY! Post your before and after!
Bronxcutie replied to CKmommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your weight loss! I posted some of my before and after pics. I was 348 at my heaviest. I was 330 in July 2020 when I began the approval process. I was 310 on December 23, 2020, the day of surgery. I am now 247. My weight loss isn’t going as fast as some. I do eat a bit more in carbs and I work out 4-5 days a week including strength training. I have never felt or looked as good as I do now. -
It depends upon how much you want to lose. And everyone loses at their own rate - lots of factors influence this (age, gender, weight loss history, metabolic rate, activity, etc.). Generally you lose more quickly to begin & then slow as you get closer to goal. I took 6 months to lose the 31kgs (68lbs) to my goal. I lost an additional about 11kgs I over a year as I was trying to find my way in maintenance. You’ve lost 81lbs in your first 6 months that’s great. You’ll get to where you want to be. It’s not a race.

Has anyone lose 120+
Officially Not Fatty Matty replied to BacktoReality's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It depends on a lot of factors like starting weight/bmi but to answer your question… yes it definitely can be done. I lost 145lbs in ten months with the sleeve. My starting BMI was 40, now at 24.7
