    NSV's

Suzzzie: Way to go! What an accomplishment!! Those 28s will feel perfect here in no time. Musicalmomma: Sounds like that's a good predicament to be in...not enough of the smaller sized clothes yet...but treat yourself. You've lost 37 pounds! You deserve a smaller clothes buy...I'm going to try to do something special for myself every 20 pounds and at big milestones (50, 75, 100). And I have a friend who was banded in Feb. and her birthday is a month before mine so we have a deal...in September between our birthdays we're to have a shopping spree...$1 for every pound we've lost and we're going to a local thrift store to get us some new clothes. She's lost 25 so far and I'm at 18.7 faithmd: Don't be discouraged...we all lose in different places. I've seen my loss in my face and unfortunately in my bra size...I'm still wearing same pants (mostly due to swelling/hematoma at port site). lo2us: A great NSV! One I'm looking forward to as well...I'm hoping that's one benefit of the band that I'll see. Way to go!!! My NSV? I started back to work Monday. When a coworker of mine walked in she took one look at me and said "Beckie, you're already losing! You look great!" I actually think she meant it...I don't believe she was just being polite. I've had 5 others stop by to see how I'm doing and all have commented that I look like I've lost already or that I look great.

    I've gained 3 lbs!

@@trishrnyoung - Stalls are part of the process - expect, them...EMBRACE them...measure yourself, you may be losing inches. The losing inches is a NSV (NON scale Victory) - those are THE best. I am allowed some Miralax, if needed. Keep Water with you all day, in the car, at work, at home (sip, sip, sip). you "got this" Welcome to the family and the losers bench!

    NSV's

So, I thought I'd start our very own NSV thread. For those who don't know, and NSV is a 'non-scale victory'. Sooo... I went to Starbucks earlier with a friend and had to put on 'real' clothes cause I couldn't wear shorts due to bending over to shave my legs is still painful. ANYWAY... I put on my 'fat' jeans that I had to buy last Fall cause NONE of my other jeans fit me, and they were falling OFF of me. I know I haven't lost much yet, and these jeans have always been a bit baggy, but I'm seriously thrilled that these huge super fat jeans are now too big to wear! They will be the first item of clothing I put in the 'Goodwill' box! I'm so excited!! :clap2:

    Who knew!!!!

Jax-I'm 3 days away from mushies and your tuna experience sounds heavenly...LOL!! Did you mix it with a little mayo or just eat it plain? You sound like you are doing WONDERFUL in your recovery. I had my first post-op appt today and am feeling fab!! Got my first fill appt scheduled and just enjoy each new day of this journey. Looking forward to ramping up the exercise next week. Congrats on your NSV.....you'll be wearing itty-bitty chaps showing off your small booty in no time!! Keep me posted on your mushie delights!! Amy
  7. I haven't had surgery yet and have read several posts regarding the stall. It seems that everyone experiences it for the most part. I hope that I will not freak out but, I am expecting my mind to play a trick on me. Why? Because I read about it everyday. I know that a stall is possible because so many people on these boards talk about it. However, the other part of my mind will tell me, I just went through this major surgery and I am only drinking and/or only eat baby food consistency food, why am I suddenly not losing weight? But, my logical brain will tell me that EVERYONE goes through this, give it time. I guess emotions and everything plays into this. I have not read to many posts of someone saying they stalled and never lost another pound. I say Celebrate your successes and read some of the other experiences on this boards. I think it will help. Again, this is me pre-op. You will be back in a month sharing your NSVs and you SVs. Wishing you the best! Also, I have only seen several posts of people regretting their decisions. I am sure you researched and thought long and hard prior to your decision. Congratulations on making this step.

    Oh Happy Day! 2

I achieved another NSV (No Scale Victory) today. I put on a pair of trousers, that when first bought were uncomfortably tight and ended up in the wardrobe after only one outting. Now they are comfortable, well more than comfortable, loose! Not loose enough for me to dare to go down to the next size, but what a wonderful way to start the day! Everyday, even with the occasional hiccup, has been a reminder that I made the right decison. I have finally invested in myself. Still feel it was a bit of a selfish action but I know both CM and I will benefit in the long run! I know there are going to be some aspects of my health that won't be resolved by my weight loss, but I look forward to the day when I can walk much longer distances without keeling over in pain. I truly do hope that with my combination of weightloss and gentle exercise, I may firm up my joints enough to prevent me causing any further damage. Not sure what I am going to do today, I know I have food shopping to do. That is also a major benefit my shopping bill - when I shop for household food and animal food - has dramatically decreased! I eat less than CM!!!! Lord help me when my size justifies clothes shopping lol. It's a good job I am not keen on Sinsburys TU! They tend to be at least one size smaller than the lable says. Why is it, that two articles of clothing from different stores can be so dramatically different? I have asked for clothes vouchers from MOnsoon and next for xmas presents. I won't spend them immediately, I may hold onto them until I get to a size 16 or maybe even 14! 16 is my initial goal and 14 my final goal. I have never been smaller than 14 and doubt I would look that good so skinny. I'd laugh if I managed to get into 12's and then probably panic! You know it's funny, a part of me is terrified about losing weight! Not sure why that should be. I should see it as a positive. Maybe that is the problem. Being fat (I still hate that word) protected me, I stopped thinking about being attractive, which meant I gave up on contemplating dating, safe in the knowledge that I would never be wanted. Maybe it will still be the case when I get down to my ideal size? It's silly though isn't it, I guess my blubber was keeping me safe from being hurt. I am going to have to work on my self-esteeem!

    MAJOR NSV!

OMG, I forgot all about this cause I stopped wearing tights and hose cause it was TOO AWFUL getting them on. Thanks for this NSV.
  16. ...well, it is major for me, and perhaps a number of women here. I am finally able to put on stockings without having to be a contortionist! I used to get out of breath trying to cross my legs, bend over and try to get those damn stockings on without falling over or ripping them! NOT ANYMORE!!! It is amazing what 71 pounds and lots of lost inches can do for a girl!
  17. Let me tell those who are interested that I have a therapist. We explore whether I am having "head hunger" or not. When I tell him what I eat, when, circumstances, he is sure that I am not eating out of habit, boredom, or a need to "fill myself up." I don't actually eat all that much, and I am not craving to eat huge portions. That is why I'm losing a little bit. I am not discounting the accomplishment of having lost 29 pounds. (Believe me, just the fact that I don't snore my husband out of bed anymore is a big NSV to me). But 3 or 4 lbs. in 11 weeks? I do need to exercise more, but that does not explain away my main question about the band. My main problem doesn't have to do with rate of weight loss. The primary thing that is bothering me is that I do not believe the band is working the physical way it is supposed to, and I'm wondering if it ever will. Is it or is it not supposed to keep the food we eat in the pouch for a few hours, and keep us feeling satiated for a few hours? I don't think it is doing that at all. And how do I get to that point? A few days after a very restrictive fill (doctor had to back some saline out after he filled me to 2.5cc. I was closed off at 2.5. So I went from 1.5 to 2.0 at that fill) I could again feel the food passing right through the stoma into the large capacity part. I'm either stuck after a bite or two or I'm completely unrestricted. I would be perfectly happy to feel satisfied with one slice of pizza. That's the ideal. My problem is being able to eat only a few bites and then having to deal with being stuck. And this problem can happen with any food, tuna salad included. The inconsistency is what is driving me nuts. I never know when I will be able to eat unrestricted (not good), or when my food will get stuck after a few bites (not good). I do include chili and other easy foods just to be able not to deal with being stuck. But I know that I can't do that all the time because the food is just passing through. The guidelines from the surgery center say to eat one cup of food per meal. That doesn't make sense if the pouch supposedly holds no more than half a cup. If properly restricted, how could I eat a whole cup? If food is getting stuck in the stoma, then I must need more restriction is the way I've been thinking. I want to get to the point where food is staying in the pouch, not passing right through or getting stuck. I have no idea if this is do-able. It should be do-able, correct? I can't even talk to my sister about this, anymore, and she is my main support person. She is closed to thinking it will ever work the way we were told it works. It has been six months, and I feel as though I may not be able to get it to work the way I am supposed to. I'm happy for all who are finding success with the band. I hope I can, too.

    NSV...Oh yeah!

What does NSV mean? Congrats though! I'm only down by about 18, but I'm looking in the back of my closet for some winter clothes from a few years ago when I was about 25 pound smaller. I found a beautiful almost new black blouse w/fall colors on it that is a 2x. I tried it on over my pjs and it almost fits! Two months ago the 3x things I have were getting snug... I hung the blouse on a hanger on my dresser as a goal to wear on Thanksgiving Day! makes it all worthwhile!!

    I saw it...

Congrats on your NSV! Keep up the good work and the scale will eventually follow!
  20. juliegeraci

    NSV...Oh yeah!

NSV stands for non scale victory. Going down a size for example would be a NSV. Good job on the deduction.

I have a funny NSV today. I love taking baths, but I hate that my tummy was always so big it stuck out of the water like one of the Hawaiian islands surrounded by the sea! LOL! My belly was always cold and looked so stupid poking out of the water. I took a bath today, and the water completely covered me - tummy and all. Hee Hee!

Those are great tskelli! I finally had one myself today! My surgeon's office is two hours from my home and the town where it's located also happens to have my favorite restaurant IN THE WORLD. I have planned all my trips to my surgeon's around this restaurant. I was even upset when I found out my surgery was in the afternoon because that meant I wouldn't have an excuse to go and have my last meal there. Anyway, I was all the way IN TOWN today before I even thought about the restaurant. I realized that maybe food isn't the total center of my thoughts anymore like it used to be. That was a pretty huge NSV for me.

Well, we haven't posted in this thread in awhile. I'll like to share a few recent NSV's I've had. Anyone else? I went to the Dentist's Office, no not the NSV - I do actually go out once in awhile... anyway as I'm instructed to sit down and wait for the dental hygienist to call me back, I turn around and immediately size up the chairs. For anyone who has been as large as me, that is one of the first things I do. I guess this will be something that will stick with me for a long time. Anyway, I notice the chairs are actually rather small, with the thin arm rests even - way small for me at 330 lbs! I would have immediately not even wanted to try. Well, I figure, OK, I can do this. So, I sit down and find that I fit rather nicely. My legs barely touch the arm rests. WHOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Smilin' all day from that one! My other one is, well bitter sweet to say the least. So, I have to go to LB's because they are the only store with a bra that works for me. My bras right now are a 40D. They are big, period. My cups are like open invitations for peeping toms too. I knew I probably needed to get a downsize in the cups as well. So, I go in and the nice young lady asks if I want to be sized for a bra. I say sure, since I'm not sure of my size anymore. She measures me as a 38C. My boobs have deflated: bitter. I have finally gotten out of the 40's: SWEET! I am in the smallest size now that LB's carries as far as bras: bitter and SWEET! Now I just need to find out where I'm going to get my bras after I shrink out of those.
