  1. Okay I have been doing an ab challenge for just a couple of weeks that my son sent me in an email... along with my routine exercise as well as cardio. I just wanted to post a progress pic to show that I am getting a lil cut up in the abdomen area. This is a total NSV for me. I don't know why Bariatric patients weight loss is different than when a person who has not had surgery loses weight. I am 174 lbs and I know some people that say they are 160 or high 150's and I look as small if not smaller. Can't wait to see what I look like when I hit goal weight of 150 lbs. I Just wanted to share my pics with my BP FAM. Please excuse all the mail on my dresser in the second pic. I keep my mail for centuries, lol.

A word on pop (soda for some)

Good deal! I'm still pre-op (surgery on Dec 20) and I havent offically stopped yet. I switched to Diet, which is slowing me down, but I still crave that sizzle. I know I won't have the option after surgery - and I would be to scare to even try. Good for you for kicking that habit early...and yes, that's a NSV!

    Alert! Nsv alert!

Awesome NSV! I've never had that experience, but I have had one wheere we were tubing down a faux river at a water park and I clogged up most of the area because my tube kept sinking with me on it, and wasn't floating. I told DH that it's my goal to go there next summer and float along.
  4. I just got back from a mini vacation at my childhood best friend's house. She lives just outside Cincinnati and you can see King's Island's Eiffel Tower from the end of her street. I haven't seen her and her family since they came home (Columbus) for Christmas. At that time, I'd lost about 55-60 pounds. Now, I've lost 80-85 pounds. At Christmas, her 9 y/o son kept bragging about how he can and will ride any and all roller coasters at King's Island. He threw me a challenge and I accepted. I have to admit that I was extremely nervous about getting back on a roller coaster because the last time I tried to ride a roller coaster (2004), I couldn't fit in the seat and had to leave the loading area in front of EVERYONE. Needless to say, that was VERY embarrassing! Well, I am extremely proud to report that I FIT ON EVERY RIDE WITH ROOM TO SPARE! :puke:    We rode the Diamondback, Invertigo, Italian Job, and Adventure Express coasters and a few other rides. We went to the park after 5pm and the lines were really short. I had a blast!

    Alert! Nsv alert!

Congratulations!!! This is a great NSV an one of my own goals as well. I've done the walk of shame after not fitting in a seat and I hope by nest season I'll be ready to go too. Congratulations again and keep on losing and racking up those NSV!!!
  6. Ok...I was banded last March. Since then, I have lost about 130 lbs. I'm always excited now to go clothes shopping. (Never liked it in the past). Well, anyway....I used to be a 44 waist and today I was able to put on a pair of 30 inch waist jeans!!! OMG! I couldn't believe it. I'm sure I was getting looks from people at Kohls when they heard me scream "Hot damn! They fit!" So of course I had to buy them. I wore the pants the next day to work and I got a comment from a female colleague....I'll paraphrase "Wow! Nice ass!" Ok...I know I'm a guy, but that was AWESOME to hear!!! Just thought I'd share. Chris

    NSV for the guys here

I'm not a guy, but will reply anyway. Great NSV!!! It feels so good when other people notice the weightloss. Hey, maybe you should change your screen name to "nice ass guy" !! :wink3:
  8. Congratulations! You've come a LONG way, keep it up!! Age: 60 Ht: 5'8" Sleeved 12/21/16 HW: 286 SW: 256 CW: 186 70 lb down since surgery 100 lb down since WLS journey start And yep, I've hit a stall. Yep, it is frustrating however I refocus on NSV's to keep motivated. [emoji254]

    Collecting Stories!

Hey you hot mamma, I too have been thinking that my journy isn't very remarkable, but it is because I am. And so is everyone else, of course. I just happen to be remarkable in a more flamboyant manner  What about my NSV list? I don't think I've had more NSVs than most, I've just been more dilligent about recording them.

That's awesome! What a great NSV. I haven't seen the special but have seen the show twice. I will admit the songs get stuck in my head sometimes!
  11. Yesterday I wore my skinny leg jeans, a ribbed v-neck white sweater, my black leather jacket, and my pointy-toed black boots. Yeah, I looked hot! Smiling still... This was the 1st day in the two-weeks where I could really show off my new body and weight-loss to everyone. First, one of the directors chased me down to say how great I looked. That made me smile. But, the true NSV was from the group of women that I truly cannot stand. These women are a clique and spread hateful gossip like WILDFIRE! These women haven't said a single word to me since my return to work 2-weeks ago. But, they do stare at me. So yesterday I'm in an early morning meeting with one of them discussing a new priority project. One of the key-cliquer's is in the meeting. She watches me get up and then looks me up and down with her mouth gapping....does she not think I cannot see this? I'm laughing inside and keeping a straight face while talkikng with my boss. Then another cliquer walked in and I get the same reaction from her...looking me up and down with a gapping mouth, but not saying a word. I act like I don't see her, but she goes over to her clique-mate and they start whispering. I'm sure they are talking about how I took the easy road by surgery, but I don't care. My take-away from this...the joy of seeing them look me up and down in shock over my current transformation. Just wait girlies....there is more to come!

    Morning Gas

I used to use a bi-pap too (No more , NSV !!!!) and was gassy too because healthy food or not, I just have trouble digesting things. I do notice im less gassy now, but the protein shakes/ high protein diet contribute a lot to the gas problem. Oh well, I just chalked it up to a minor inconvenience on my way to a bigger payoff ! ( Healthy weightloss !) Check with your Dr , ask about a chewable fiber pill from the drugstore and see if that helps. I love mine ! Good luck !!

Oh My Goodness...I got the job on the Cruise

Thanks everyone - it is a dream for me. I have literally been scheming this one for about two years. Sept. 04 - DH and I went to Wesern Carribean on a cruise and I met the comedian who performed the first night the next morning when Don & I got up to see the sunrise. Being me - I just had to go talk to him and then I went down to my cabin and got him some of my work and showed him and then proceeded to pump him for the "how do you do this" info I wanted. The same cruise I met a lady in the Hot Tub who happened to tell me that she was the enrichment speaker that day. Of course I asked her a bunch of questions but she really didn't give me anything concrete. I left that cruise and went home and sent out proposals and query letters to a Royal Carribean representative and after a couple of letters back and forth - that lead didn't go anywhere. Time went by and it is Sept. 2005 and DH and I are on an unplanned - impromptu cruise in the Western Carribean again and we are in the hot tub soaking up the bubbles on a particularly choppy day cause of Hurrican Katrina off in the distance. An older Gentleman joined us in the hot tub and just started to talk to DH and I about all kinds of stuff - one of which was that he was working for the cruise line and cruising literally (almost free) doing hardly nothing. I of course had to ask questions and he told me everything and then told me to call him when we all went back to our rooms to get ready for dinner so that he could give me the agency name, address, and owners name, etc. so that I could apply for the things I had in mind that I wanted to do as an enrichment speaker on a cruise. I came home and sent off my application and waited. Nothing. I sent off a little reminder email. Nothing. Then the first week of Jan. on Tuesday I was back in my studio office working and I decided to send the Agency a little tickler letter to see if I could get them to respond. I figured it was the first week of the month (particularly in business this week is notorius for doing absolutely nothing) so I figured it would be now or never to get a response. It worked - the fish took the bait and now I am planning cruises with DH and we are going to be in Hawaii next December for three weeks while I do my seminars. In August - 1st of September - I am planning a trip (working) with my dear friend and sister in law and we are going to go to New York and Bermuda for a week. (We are soooo excited) Then the agent told me next year (2007) I would have a better selection of dates and itineraries to choose from. We can't wait. So all I can say - is don't give up on your dreams. And by the way - this isn't my main dream - that dream is still out there and I feel that this doorway is going to be very responsible for me finding the doorway of the next step leading to my real dream. And that is to become a famous poetry artist and sell my commissioned poetry art all over the world. I envision doing this through cruise ships. That is my dream. And I think I am going to see it. I am very awed by that thought - but I think now - I am getting close. My seminars are varied and some of the titles are Goddess, Angel, Loving Soul.... Wouldn't you choose......Happy? Sketching for fun Soul Quests....Searching for Joy It would be great to do a lap band cruise sometime - maybe our resident arrangers could figure that out. And I would do a special seminar for the Ladies. As far as the poems - I will try to put up a thread and post some for you to review. I don't really put them on a web site as I am very gaurded with my work and usually only publish in magazines, books or do exclusive exhibits of my Poetry Art Walls. But I will share them with you on a seperate thread. If anyone wants to email me you can at visualpoetryart@aol.com for any info on my poetry - my artwork - etc. Thanks for the encouraging words and support. Best of all - Losing the weight will truly help my self esteem when I am taking charge of this endeavor. That's my NSV for the YEAR!!!!!!!
  16. Congrats on the successes. For those of you who have slower results, be patient and make sure to get fills regularly to make sure you're in the green zone. I myself was banded April 5 2013 and have lost 80 pounds so far. Lots of NSV's along the way, especially these past few weeks (raiding the back of my closet and finding out that old clothes that I assumed would fit me now, actually are too big!). Lets keep up the hard work and keep moving forward !
  17. I had emerged from a childhood of being obese as a slim size 6 teenager vowing never to be fat again. A decade later I was bigger then ever. There was no one specific event that made me decide that having the Lap Band placed was the right decision for me, rather it was all of the small indignities that were becoming common place in my life. There were many, but with each new indignity I became more hindered in my ability to live the type of life that I wanted to. At first not being able to cross my legs was just something that I would have to live with. Then I had to start looking for seats without arms, which made going to a movie an anxiety producing event. Eventually shaving my legs became a feat worthy of a contortionist. I was actually grateful that my then year old son was a late walker, as I could not fathom chasing after a toddler I couldn’t understand why I was so fat. I had been a vegetarian for almost 15 years I was insulted whenever a complete stranger or doctor implied that I must be scarfing down whoppers and fries. Of course I knew the answer, I just ate too often and too much.I ate when I wasn’t hungry, I ate when I was sad, I ate when I had a argument with my husband, I ate when my feelings had been hurt because I had been ostracized due to my weight. After delivering my son in May 2006 I weighed in at 375 pounds, six months later I was down to 330 and the scale wouldn’t go down from there. Both my mother and my husband asked why I couldn’t just lose weight on my own again. I could never express what I felt, inside “Why ? When I won’t be able to keep it off ?” At that time I went to an information session at my local hospital, I decided that night that I much preferred having the Lap Band placed instead of either RNY or the Duodenal Switch, the only three surgeries preformed there. I also learned that I would have to wait until I was at a least a year post par tum to have the surgery, the hospital’s policy. I would love to say that during the interim between the information session and my surgery eight months later I changed my eating habits and started a healthy new lifestyle, but in reality I ate like I was going to the chair. I went for all of the prerequisite exams and learned what I was truly doing to my health. I was at the cut off point for not needing a Cpap machine, my heart was enlarged, I had horrible GERD, and my joints ached constantly. Yet I couldn't stop eating. Still when I received a call on July 26, 2007 saying that there was a cancellation with my surgeon and I could have my surgery in a mere 5 days I balked. “Could I really do this?” Resoundingly the answer that came from within was “YES I CAN ” I told my skeptical spouse and mother my decision and turned into a shrew waiting for my surgery day. I weighed in at 342 pounds the day of my surgery. The band has been an amazing tool in my life giving me a sense of satiety that I never had before. I have had success with my band because I keep reminding myself of my inner voice that told me I could when the closest people to me were skeptical. I walk 90 minutes a day at least 5 days a week and follow the Bandster rules. Today I weigh 212 pounds and am 47 pounds away from my goal. I will get there, although it is getting more difficult to lose. The quality of my life is so much better and instead of learning to live with indignities I am finding non scale victories NSVs)everywhere...

    Christmas Doggies!

Wow, so many compliments, I don't know where to begin! I think Mr. Longhorn is kinda cute, too. He's a remodeling contractor so every bit of our house has been remodeled. That floor behind us is a recycled high school gym floor. And we laid the tile ourselves. We've always had a lot of dogs so the carpet had to go! I do look thinner in that picture than I really am. I think Corky is helping to hide me. And I'm 5'8" with a large frame (size 11 shoes!) so I can carry more weight than others. I'm only posting my official weight but my scales say I'm down to 208, a few pounds less than at the doctor's last week. That top in the picture is an NSV, though. When I first ordered it from Coldwater Creek a few months before my surgery, it didn't fit, but it fits great now! Thanks for your kind comments!
  19. We are finally getting the cold fall weather here in Missouri. I've waited years to wear boots that would zip around my larger calves and now that I can I've been sporting them proudly. I've been shopping for all fall clothes and it's just amazing how different the experience has been from last fall. Last fall I was wearing a size 18 (snug) and this year I'm shopping for size 8 which opens up a lot of new options I never had before. My goal is to do as may fun fall inspired activities outside with the kids that I can. Thing I never did with them like apple picking, hay rides, corn mazes, visiting the pumpkin patch, fall festivals ect... I feel alive now. I'm excited to get out and live this fall as apposed to sitting in the house being unhealthy and sluggish. I love fall! Unlike summer I can dress to cover up the parts of my body I'm not thrilled with yet and not look like a crazy loon wearing long sleeves in the middle of summer This is going to be the best fall in all of EVER! Ha! So what are you looking forward to?
