    Day 6 of Pre-Op Diet...Feeling Down

My surgeon was pretty set on me only drinking the advantage shakes and i have now learned that watering them down is key. i was making very whipped thick shakes...now i only blend it for a few seconds and add a lot of water. i drink plain skim milk after and use water to make the shake, it is working out. i know i am not getting in the nearly 90 grams of protein 3 shakes would give me, but I'm aiming for 60 since that is what my nutritionist told me. On a positive note it is working, down 10 lbs in one week! No diet i have been on before have given me those kind of results.

    Fill time!

Whoo hoo, fill day today! I have not had a good fill record. My first fill, Nov 5, was cancelled because of nausea and moved to Nov. 19. Went to Disneyland in Dec. 2nd fill Dec 19 for a total of 6 ccs. No real restriction. 3rd fill Jan but I was too embarrassed to go since I hadn't been losing. So today is the day! I also changed my life around to better facilitate my weight loss goals. I work 12 hour night shifts and my schedule used to be 3 nights on 2 off, 3 on, 6 off That was exhausting! I switch back to day shift on my days off because I have an 11 year old son. I changed my schedule to 3 on 4 off so I can get regular exercise. I started swimming again. I love to swim! I joined WW for the core diet plan, we'll see how that goes. I bought the book Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients. I also bought the workbook because I'm a bit OCD. I hope my fill goes well today!
  3. After lurking around this place I thought it was proper to start an acount thus here I am. I am 10 days post opt and feeling okay for the most part. Emotionally drained and still a bit of pain at the top of my stomach but other than that doing well. I had my surgery in Sydney Australia..which is where I live..by a lovely French Doctor whose main practice is in QLD. Since my two week preopt diet I have lost about 16 kgs (35lbs) to date. :faint: I will let you knwo of my progress as I go along. Cheers Jess
  4. Today so far (it's only 10 am) I feel pretty good. Still a little head ache. I did order some protien shakes the other day. I hope they are good. I ordered Myoplex lite? My stomach feels much better too. Still tender but can sit up out of bed much easier today. Yesterday was kind of rough. So weird having a craving for cottage cheese? What is up with that. Well just drank a big glass of citrucel... yum. I have not smoked in a week, had any thing substantial to eat in a week & have not had my beloved diet coke in a week. Marlboro & Coke lost an investor! I am done and on my way to being the healthier me. Everyone thanks for your support, comments and prior posts. It is of great comfort to read other peoples experiences. Thank you and have a great day!

  6. I thought I would have to crush pills forever, but at about 10 days postop my doc's office said to take pills whole. Of course if they don't go down well they would need to be split, but I've had no problem taking Vitamins, Calcium (my largest pills) etc. I think some docs vary on this so make sure you check with your doc's office regarding this. I have discovered if I have a headache in the morning I can't take Tylenol right away - I need to drink something hot first and let things loosen up. So the same goes for my morning pills, I drink something hot and take my pills about an hour later.
  7. I am seven days post op. I had 10 days of Protein shakes and 3 days of Clear liquids before surgery. I hated it, but was not as hungry as I thought I would be. I have heard a lot of the banded hell once the swelling goes away and before your first fill. I have decided if I get to that point, I will convert to the 3 shakes a day and only eat green veggies if I must chew, like brocolli and cut out all carbs except the carbs that are in my shake. If I survived for 10 days on the shakes and survived the 3 days of clear liquid, I can go back to that. I know from being a career dieter, that if you cut your carbs out you will not be as hungry. Just my therory. I will see when it happens to me if this theory works.

    Workout regimen-What's yours?

I was sleeved on 5/10 and walking is what I'm focused on. 40-50 minutes each day since I came home. After my 30 day check in - I plan to keep walking but incorporate biking, weight training and build to running once I have shed more weight and it's less intense on my knees. Bcbs Alabama (Waiting Game)

hey slim now you must be patient, you can't call them every 2-3 seconds. call every 2-3 MINUTES trying to be serious , which is no easy feat for me, i would wait 10 days I would wait til Tuesday the 23rd, that will be 10 days for me, its more frustrating calling too early, and still being told to be patient. IMO giving it a good 10 days before you call is hard but good. GOD grant me patience, just hurry up about it Who knows, BCBS might call first, stranger things have happened!!! then they can surprise you with the good word. good luck my friend

So, yesterday started good then went bad. I get home very hungry after having a very good eating day and then husband Kevin wants to go and try the new Alfy's Pizza in our area. Hey, it's pizza, of course I said yes. We get there and ordered a couple of pizzas; but I did start with salad bar. But still ate the pizza. Why do I do this? I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that I was really hungry and I didn't have to cook it. Then we get home and I eat some carmel popcorn from the boyscouts....damn boyscouts...and I ate some of the banna cream pie that my son made the other night. I got up this morning in a foul mood took it out on my kids and got them on the bus then came in and did a walking video that I have from Jenny Craig...it really kicked my but, I haven't done any type of excercise in awhile..But, I felt better after having done the video. I did my measurements this morning: Neck: 14 1/2 Breast: 50 Under Breast: 42 Waist: 42 1/2 Belly: 57 Butt: 55 1/2 R. Thigh: 34 R. Upper Arm: 18 weight 270

I didn't get to ride my bike today....yet. I might try to get it in after hubby goes to bed. I still don't like exercising in front of him. It was a pretty good day. I'm pretty used to not eating much now. In some ways I can see how being on this pre-op diet can be beneficial. Not just because of the weight loss but that when I am banded I'm already used to not eating hardly anything. Here's what I had today: (typical of everyday) whey protein shake 2scoops in 8oz slim milk 2 slimfast shakes (I'm allowed 3 a day but lately have only been drinking 2) 1 1/2 cups broccoli 1 cup butternut squash soup (90 cals) 1 1/2 cups stir fry veggies 1 diet Dr. Pepper That's around 1200 cals. And I'm really not hungry. The first few days of this pre-op diet I ate like three times as many veggies but not anymore. I'm actually not supposed to have soup but I've been eating progresso's hearty tomato and tried this organic squash soup. The squash soup is pretty nasty. I like squash. I've eaten a lot of it the past two weeks but the soup just wasn't right. It smelled like pumpkin pie and tasted like onion, garlic squash. It messed with my senses. I am so ready for my surgery date. Not much longer. I am on the downhill side now at least. Well, Goodnight. Hope everyone is doing good on their journeys!
  19. Ok, I must be a pig or have no restriction - period. I know I'm technically not supposed to now but each day I notice the same amount of food doesn't fill me as much. today: breakfast: bag of oatmeal lunch: 1/2 pita (yes, a pita bread - no problems at all) 4 oz chicken salad slice of cheddar cheese 2 oz lite fruit cocktail for late afternoon snack 4 oz Beans for a before dinner snack (terribly faint from hunger!!) dinner: 1/2 pita 4 oz chicken salad 4 oz low carb ice cream What a hog I am! I will say I was having trouble getting any Water in before 9am this am. Couldn't eat my oatmeal until about 10:30. After that, I seemed to be ok for the rest of the day, except hungry every 2-3 hours! Also, haven't lost any weight for a couple of days. I heard it slows down in mushy stage for a while but I am going to ask for a fill in May instead of June when he has it tentatively scheduled.
  20. Hi Cindy: I believe that I understand your frustration just as everyone else here does to one degree or another. But as Longhorn and stated every DR is a bit different in their approach to WLS. I believe it has alot to do with their success stories as well as their failures. They are trying to give your new stomach time to heal completely before allowing it the extremely difficult task of digestion. Some foods are very hard to digest, some easier. Milk although liquid can be hard on digestive systems in certain people and so on. So his approach is caution I believe. My Dr. required me to be on clear liquids for 5 days before surgery and 3 days after surgery. I lost 10 pounds before my surgery and I will find out this morning if I have lost anymore. I started on full liquids on Monday and I have one week of them and then I start the pureed stage for two weeks and then on to a regular diet. I agree with everyone here that it is better to suffer through the post op phase a little hungry than to ruin everything you have gone through to only have your band not heal properly to cause you severe problems down the road. My DR. was very intense in my preop visit that I understand that if I was looking for rapid weight loss then the REN-Y would be the way to go, because banding is a much slower process. But that is why I chose it, I wanted the process to be slower because I feel my body will adjust better and the weight will stay off. Hope this helps some, I am on my 6th day out and I have yet to be hungry at all. I am having trouble getting all of my Fluid in each day. Good Luck:clap2:

  23. It's good to hear some positive feedback on the whole thing. I was reading last night about jasleeve going through a leak and might spend 8 weeks in the hospital! I was sorta freaking out a little, because my surgery is February 13th, and I keep thinking I'm going to be the .01% that has problems. I'm just psyching myself out I think. I was on the ledge... I think I read WAY too much on here. I'm glad it's going so well for you!!

My surgery is today. Had to be at hospital at 6:30 am. My surgery was scheduled for 10. It is now 12:20. 2 people are still ahead of me. Nurses say this is very typical of Dr. Kim. Just be prepared to wait...

    Another fill today

Well I went to doctor today and lost only 3 lbs this past month. I have to start keeping tract again. Why do I fight keeping track of what I eat. I just hate measuring and weighting everything I eat. I want to do what normal people do, I want to eat a salad or soup or sandwich and not worry that I'm eating to much. At the rate I'm losing it will take years and years for me to lose all my weight. I have lost 4 lbs in the last 2 months. I have lost a total of 35.8 lbs since banding march 20. In 6 six months that is not very much. I know at least I didn't gain 35.8 lbs. Anyway the add another .5 cc in my band that brings me to 3.5 cc in my 4cc band. I hope I'm not to full. Of course I'm on liquid the next 48 hours. I have read on the threads that some doctors are not doing that now. I will not eat at least till tomorrow nite then just soft foods. Will see how I do with liquids. I had protien shake for lunch today, went down fine, just took me a hour to drink it. I would love to lose 10 lbs this next month. Maybe I should settle for 5 lbs a month and be happy.
