Eas Sports Drink 11 Oz ..7 Days Out...
DebInAZ replied to muffintop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ME TOO!! I to am surprised that I can drink so much, yesterday I drank about the same but it was made at home and it only took me an average time as though I had nothing done. I also have not had any of the issues others have had, I can drink a 20oz bottle of water in about 15/20 mins?. My Dr. gave me a DVD of my surgery, if it weren't for that I would think nothing at this point happened. hahaha I did eat about 2 1/2 oz of yogurt last night and I was full for the rest of the night...so I think its just that maybe our swelling wasn't as severe as others which is good for us...I know as of about the 5th day out I have not had any issues regarding getting all my water in! -
I'm almost 5 months out and only use unjury. In the beginning, I used the chicken broth, mixed with warm, not hot Water and more water than it calls for. I loved it and it was comforting for me. I used the unflavored only in milk-based products like yogurt and pudding. I didn't use the chocolate until about a month ago because it was too sweet for me. I got my Protein mostly from cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and soft meats. Then a month ago I started experimenting with the chocolate and vanilla powders. I posted earlier today in recipe sharing a shake with chocolate splendor powder, espresso powder, and chocolate almond unsweetened milk. Add a few ice cubes and blend and it's like a mocha milk shake. So yummy!

That is soooo awesome....and what a great opportunity for you:clap2: So here is an example of foods included in my diet during each stage: Liquids: Tomato juice, 100% fruit juice (no sugar added), creamy Soups w/out chunks (campbells Soup at hand was great for this), 1/2 C of slim fast at each meal, yogurt, smoothies, and Jello. Puree: I bought a food processor and made all of my meals like baby food. Some things I enjoyed (although they looked disgusting) were tuna salad, tofu (sometimes w/ brown rice), cooked carrots, cooked peas, baked Beans, chili, chicken, avacados, mashed potato, bake potato, canteloup, bananas, cottage cheese, grits, and anything from my liquid diet...I was also able to take certain lean cuisine meals (the ones w/ brown rice) an puree those...I could only eat 1/2 at a sitting. Soft Foods - I am now chewing foods. So basically it is everything mentioned above only I am allowed to chew it up. I am also able to add whole wheat Pasta, whole wheat toast, eggs, oatmeal, and crackers. Still no raw veggies or tough fruits (i.e. apples), no nuts, or white bread. So today...I had my first few crackers w/ salmon salad from whole foods...so far so good! I will get my fills in Mexico for now. I work from Houston a lot, so the travel is cheap, and I am a part of a fill prgm w/ OCA hospital so those are free. I will go sometime in April after my 6 week mark. So tell me more about you...your experience...where you are w/ the band...etc.

I went protein crazy!
kjr2016 replied to gettingsleeved1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been finding the vanilla and chocolate Protein powders mixed with milk a little too sweet, so I started mixing them with other things. Vanilla mixed with greek yogurt cuts the tanginess and ends up tasting a little like cream cheese frosting (but not as sweet). Chocolate Protein Powder in a SF chocolate pudding was good too. -
I went protein crazy!
kjr2016 replied to gettingsleeved1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does anyone know how long you can store a food with Protein powder mixed in? For example, I like greek yogurt mixed with vanilla Protein Powder enough that I'm thinking of mixing up a few days' worth to have for Breakfast. Is the shelf life the same as the base product (i.e. the yogurt) or does the protein make it spoil or separate or whatever, faster? Also, I know you can't add protein to hot liquids but could you mix the protein with say, cold broth and then heat it up later? Thanks in advance for your sage advice! -
Constipation?
Tiffykins replied to shezaditz@bellsouth.net's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only had a couple of episodes of major constipation. Miralax is fabulous, and I found that when I would eat yogurt and take Probiotics, I became more regular. I go every day now. I think it's because I'm in a different stage, and I drink my normal cup of coffee every morning. The only time I skip a day is when I eat a bunch of cheese and Protein only. My surgeon said no no to laxatives and stool softeners used on a regular basis only because our bodies get used to having the stimulant effect. Also, stool softeners tend to pull the fluids from the rest of your body to soften the stool with more liquids to help it pass. He did say if we had to take a stool softener then to increase our clear liquid intake to compensate for the stool softener usage. I've only had to take Miralax a few times (like 4 -5 times) over the last 11 months. I mix it in some juice or crystal light, and drink it slowly. I also only use a half dose. It may take it a few more hours to work, but I'm not looking to have explosive poops after being constipated. -
I'm currently on full liquids and I've gotten tired of eating my Soups out of a can so today, finally feeling well enough I decided to cook my own Soup. I used things I had on hand and this tuned out DELISH!! Its a little carby but I was lacking in Protein and this was a good protein recipie. 1 chicken breast 4 cups chicken stock 1 chicken bullion 1 can northern white Beans ¼ cup chopped parsley 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp curry powder ¼ cup greek yogurt 1/4 cup of milk I didn't realize it would make as much as it did, I'm still getting used to small servings lol. Next time I think I'll use more chicken breast considering how many servings to get the protein a bit higher. It made me 7 1/2 cup servings Cut up chicken in cubes, put in stock and bring to a boil with the white beas, bullion, parsley, garlic and curry powder. Let boil. Once boiled and chicken is cooked puree in a blender. If you're not on liquids anymore I suggest pureeing only hald and leaving the other half chunky! But was delish all smooth! Put back in pot, return to heat and stir in milk and greek yogurt. Heat until smooth and creamy and you're done! Nutritional info for 1/2 a cup serving Calories: 74 Fat: .1 Carbs: 10 Fiber 3 Protein 7

This Stinks To No End!!
tiffnie replied to MommyTawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear that! I think there are a few organic brands of lactose free milk, maybe check some of those out. I think in general lactose intolerant people can still eat cheese and yogurt, but there are exceptions! I think that would be a good one for your dr, to avoid another vomiting episode. Good luck! -
I am 10 days out and I have not lost any weight since Monday. I am barely getting 600 calories per day, since I am still on liquids. I am kind of thinking the low calories is why I am stalled right now, do you think I should try to increase it now, or just wait, I got to purees on Monday and maybe will be able to get a little more then. If I were to increase it now, how would I do it? I may try to eat a greek yogurt today and see what that does, but problem is I don't get that hungry, or if I do it is at night.

Maybe I'm weird. I really look foward to my meals (I am 5 weeks post-op) and love that I can only have a few bites and I'm done and satisfied. I have realized that food can be good even in teeny tiny portions. I feel like I savor every bite. I love coming up with new ideas or eating my old favorites (veggie chili with greek yogurt instead of sour cream and some melted cheese is probably my fav). I would love to dig into a nice salad, but that will come in time.

Is my band too tight?
stateofzen replied to JJLaw08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lunch: Baked meatballs with tomatoes (I bake about 12 meatballs and have several servings out of it-- perfect microwave dish) Caprese salad (tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, tiny tiny bit of olive oil and vinegar) Salad greens with low carb dressing Chicken salad with a few walnuts and grapes Sometimes i'll make a packet of oatmeal or cream of wheat if I'm desperate; I also keep yogurt in my work fridge -
I love the Fage Greek Yogurt with fruit (fruit is a separate attached cup). I don't count anything but calories, and these have been a great snack; high in protein, sweet tooth satisfied, etc.

Now I know why my nutritionist has BReADs on the AVOID list and said when I eat chicken to "pound the heck out of it first." It likes the fast fast places don't do that. Maybe when I eat out, I'll have....soup broth and yogurt.

August 2011 sleevers get in here!!!!!!
LUCYCAT replied to blackmikeg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on August 1st. I am down 32 pounds since Surgery and 47 pounds total. I get my protein in every day and do pretty good with my vitamins. I don't do very well with water. I get busy at work and forget. I can eat anything, but I have still been avoiding breads and sugars. My diet consists mostly of cheese, yogurt, lunch meat, boca burgers and the occasional slice of tomato and a few spinach leaves. I exercise 7 days a week. Not because I HAVE to but because I really do enjoy it. None of my coworkers have noticed- or if they have they haven't said a word. It feels weird. One day I am all excited because I can finally fit back into my favorite black jeans....4 days later they are falling off of me. -
In that phase, I pretty much only had my premier Protein shake, Water, hot tea, sugar free popsicles and Soups. I had oatmeal, cream of wheat, s.f. puddings, mashed potatoes and gravy, yogurt smoothies with added protein powder. I really didn't want to eat and even today, I mostly just want soups. So, I make sure they are loaded with protein! Check out Bariatric Eating.com great ideas.

am i stupid or what
Redesigned_Curves replied to ErinSue2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You & me both! Tomorrow I will be 2 weeks post op and I have been sooo emotional these past couple days. My problem is not so much my addiction to food as it is my lack of liking most foods. There are just not a lot off foods I like and am a very plain eater. People say, "oh, I am too"...and then we compare notes and they are like, "wow! You are picky" I just can't help it. I have a very plane/bland pallet. Makes life style changes very difficult. The stuff most people eat like: yogurt, oatmeal, etc. I just can't stand :-( -
I had my post-op appointment this morning and I happened to ask why most surgeon's require that their patients go through a long process of being on a liquid diet before introducing back normal foods. I'm not posting this on the main board because I think it would annoy a lot of people, but I thought you would find the information useful since you are already introducing real food (and getting scolded for it!). Melissa (who is Dr. Blackstone's assistant surgeon) told me that most programs require a long liquid diet because they don't have the support staff to answer a lot of questions about food or to deal w/problems that occur when their patients eat food. In other words, if the patient only drinks shakes, they will never get any food stuck, they will never have any problems w/food, etc... because they aren't EATING food. So, this keeps their call volume down. She said that otherwise there is no reason to be so cautious about introducing food. Anyway, so for what its worth, that's her opinion on the matter. If you are curious the details of my post-op restrictions for the first month, I can eat any protein except red meat (chicken, fish, egg, soy products, cottage cheese, yogurt, reduced fat cheese-in moderation). Any cooked vegetables (except potato, peas, corn). Any fruit (but peel it first). No starches (bread, pasta, rice, etc.). This is just for the first month. Then, you can add back in a small amount of starch and red meat. There are other rules... like don't drink while you eat or after you eat for at least 30 minutes (helps the food stick longer in your pouch). And, don't drink calories (no shakes, juice, etc.) because these are considered 'sliders'. And, make protein your main priority (60-80 grams). Anyway, I'm just giving you this info cause I know you were questioning their advice to be on liquids only. Personally, I would be so annoyed if I was told to be on liquids for so long when liquids just slide right through the band. And, you have to learn to chew at some point anyway. I would think its easier to learn this now when we have the least amount of restriction (before we get any fills). Anyway, sorry you got scolded. I think you are doing great!

Strawberry "Shake" Smoothie Recipe
Yvette1026 commented on Yvette1026's blog entry in How I lost 100lbs
Understandable some of this is new to me too.. Do you have a Whole Foods Market where you live? Or Sprouts Market? Or Trader Joe's? - You would want to go to a healthy grocery store type of place. Fage is a brand of greek yogurt. It's a good brand because it's very low in sugar and carbs and VERY high in protein. Unlike most yogurts, it's important to check your carbs and sugars as not all yogurts are created equal. As for the agave nectar it's kinda like honey, but it comes from the agave catus - it's a natural sweetener that fits into the low glycemic index. More calories than sugar per tablespoon but much better for you. Both are available at the Whole Foods Market type of stores. -
How exciting! You are doing excellent with the pre-op…hell, I ate a hamburger during mine. All I took was my photo ID/insurance card, my phone (downloaded with Pandora), my pillow and a ponytail holder. The only thing I wished I’d brought was my wide-toothed comb b/c I can’t even get those little ones through my curly mop. Be sure to wear comfy, loose clothes…and no need for a change of clothes b/c you won’t wear them long after arrival, and they’ll be packed into a bag for the return home. Some people bring their own pajamas but to me, with the IV tubing and all it’s easier to wear the gown. For home I just made sure I had skim milk, Protein powders, G2 (Gatorade), yogurt, pudding, cream Soups, and ice made for Protein shakes. I wasn’t sure if I would have enough but now with 5 days left of liquids I know there was more than enough.

Needing a little encouragement
ShellMilliner replied to ShellMilliner's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@@Elizabeth21 and @@Djmohr Thank you. I do need to keep reminding myself. I keep comparing my recovery to my C-Sections and then have to remind myself that this was a completely different surgery and my body was re-wired. I also really need to stop comparing myself to other people's stories. That seems to be much easier said than done. I'm back at work today (shh...taking a quick break before staff meeting). I'll check in this afternoon with a drowsiness report. @@CanyonBaby I know I've read about the stalls that happen throughout the entire process, I guess I wasn't expecting it so soon? I know it really has no choice but to eventually come off (unless I do dumb things), which is why I'm okay with it. The only carbs I've incorporated was two ritz crackers with my tuna salad (which crackers and toast are allowed). I just needed a little crunch and raw veggies are still a no no so my normal adding in of carrots and celery make my tuna kinda like mush. But I will definitely beware of them in the future, not to mention I already have a hard enough time fitting in the 80-100g of Protein I require without adding in extras! @scstxrn My next appt and blood work is on the 11th so I will know better then. As of this past week I've finally got my Vitamin schedule down. I learned I had to set alarms on my phone to keep me straight. I will need to check out the lemonade that is one I haven't tried. I've been drinking Premier Protein since pre-op but I think I'm am burned out on it. I do best when I make my own smooties using a protien powder or shakeology, fruit, yogurt and milk, but lately even that hasn't tasted very good. I've been thinking about making popcicles out of the Isopure drinks to see if that works. It is HOT here in Florida already. @Bandista Thank you so much. I did this for my kids, I want to be able to play and keep up with them d not sit on the sidelines and of course to be there for them when they are grown as well. Oh and I also want to get my butt back on my other passion - horses and rollercoasters. Here's to better days! -
my doc was similar to yours. I was able to switch to soft foods week 2. I mostly have gas but it's not the end of the world. I had mine on the 23rd. I notice yogurt doesn't agree with me to well but milk is fine. Keep your head up!
