    Happy 6 Month Bandiversary!!!

Shelly, Thanks for the post... you're doing great! I've learned that I am totally worth it and it feels good to do this. It has been life-changing, not only for myself, but for my family. My 2 teenagers are now actively exercising daily with me and I hope this will be a habit they will carry with them through adulthood -- thereby (I hope) keeping them from traveling the road that got me here. I love all the NSVs that I have gained from the loss -- the ones I can mention: 5 clothes sizes down, outrunning my kids, being able to reach my derriere ; the others, well, use your imagination! Most of all, I love the self-confidence this has given me. I CAN do it, I AM worth it and I will ALWAYS be grateful for my band.

    A Harry Potter Nsv

    That's an awesome NSV. Congrats!
  4. Yesterday, I was shopping at the mall. I wanted to get a pair of boots to wear with a denim skirt that I hadn't been able to wear in four years. (Yay!) Typically, with boots, I either need to buy them in a plus-sized store so the calves are wider or buy the kind that slouch down. Well, I saw a pair of boots in JC Penney that I loved, but figured would never fit at they wet to just below he knee in tight leather. For whatever reason, I tried them on. AND THEY FIT!!! I could zip them all the way up my calf!! I couldn't believe it. It's been years and years since I could wear boots like that! I came home and modeled them for my husband and couldn't stop dancing around in them. Have I mentioned that I love my band? LOL!
  5. OK ... this "may" quality for a NSV. I"m in the 10% percentile for height, weight, and age. WOW!!! Need to try the fun one next.
  6. Kittykoo ~ My sincerest condolences to you! A few months ago I lost my motivation as well ... I stopped visiting this site, stopped monitoring my daily intake, stopped focusing on losing weight and instead focused on maintaining what I had already lost ... then I started gaining and I realized I needed to somehow get myself back on track! First thing I did was get a fill ... I obviously needed it and it certainly helped. Second thing I did was came back to this site and I make it a point to visit daily just to read up on whats going on with everyone else. Theres nothing more motivating than browsing through the "Before & After Surgery" picture thread or reading about everyone's NSV's. I also make it a point to post my daily menu in the "Share What You Ate Today" thread ... kinda sorta keeps me accountable for what I eat everyday  You have come so far with your weightloss already ... you are so worth the effort to keep on going! Best of luck ....

    1 year bandivarsary

HI Campers! (Hi Crystal!) Well, today is my one year bandivarsary. Not a single expectation I had before my banding has materialzied at least when it comes to weight or size, but perhaps the evaporation of my asthma symptoms (yay me!) makes up in some small measure for not losing weight. (that whole not-dead thing goes a long way I think) I have lost a net of 30 pounds since being banded. I've lost 15 pounds since April 2005, which is hardly impressive. This last year has been quite a ride for me. Right now I'm not even bothering to try to lose weight, I'm just concentrating on maintaining. And I'm doing a very good job of that. Someone on another board told me that they were disapointed that I've given up, that I wasn't even trying, so of course I would fail. But that's just it, I haven't given up and I haven't failed. I don't think the band failed me either. Or maybe I do. I dunno. I know that I was very angry that I wasn't able to lose weight. I was well on my way for a while to developing my first eating disorder -- this summer and fall I was completely obsessed with counting everysingle calorie trying to lose weight. (tooth paste does not have any significiant calories, BTW) I spent a month at 700 +/- 100 (okay, mostly - ) because I couldn't lose weight at 1000 or 1200 or higher. I lost 1.5 pounds that month I was too tight. I thought I had developed a leak, but it was just a case of an interventional radiologist who didn't have enough experinece letting out more fill than he was putting in... It's hard watching everyone pass me by. It's hard to watch folks who started out with similar stats to me loose 10 sizes to my one size lost. It's hard to watch them lose so much more in pounds that I feel like I ever will. But at least I've recorded every one of my NSVs that I've ever noticed, which does help. After all, when I'm invited to go on Oprah when i finally do get things figured out, I'll be able to share more than pounds lost, I'll be able to share the life I've gained. So, since I badger everyone at their bandivarsaries for their favorite NSVs, here are my favorite ones right now. My top ten NSVs in no particular order. I didn't die from resperatory failure. Probably my biggest NSV, that whole not-death thing. Probably my favorite one too. I have wiggle room when I fly, and I don't need an extender anymore either. (is that one or two?) I've run for the bus without even thinking about it I've been able to chase my Spudboy down the stairs and out into the street before having to stop becaue I was laughing so hard I've started bellydancing again, and I'm a professional bellydancer too now. I no longer have a "breathy" quality to my voice, but I'm told it's strong and clear now. (no more asthma!) I am no longer The Great Crystal Dam in the bathtub I can cross my legs. HOLY SH*T! I can cross my legs! donuts no longer have any appeal I have realized that I will never go hungry again. (it's a wolves thing)

    NSV

My weight loss has been really slow, i even put on some weight over Easter. I now have 9ml in my band and am finally feeling good restriction. Any way yesterday i was having trouble finding something to wear that wasn't way too big and I pulled out a shirt (that i love) that i have not been able to wear for about 17 - 18 years. Not only did it fit but it was actually loose. It probably was a little too casual for work but i wore it any way.

    Discouraged

Please don't get discouraged. For many a big wieght loss will be followed by no loss or even a gain. The body is adjusting to the new food intake, new level of exercise....a lot of new stuff is happening in our bodies. And remember that if you're exercising consistently you're building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat so while a weight loss may not show up on the scale your body is physically getting smaller. I've been banded for about 15 months and had many times where I haven't lost an ounce for several months....but then the weight loss will start up again. I still haven't figured out what triggers a plateau. So, keep doing what you're doing and be sure to count those NSVs (non-scale victories)!....Good luck on your journey

    Holy Crap!! What a NSV!!!!!WOOHOO!!!

    NSV: Non scale Victory
  16. Oops... Nsv ... Guess this really shows my age lolollolololl

    Am I crazy here?

One of the hidden joys of weightless surgery is dropping clothing sizes. Some call it a NSV (non scale victory). I went from a size 3X in shirts down to a size Small and from a size 46 in pants down to a size 32. I think I enjoyed this more than dropping pounds on the scale. Your body responds differently as you lose weight. Sometimes you lose a few pounds, sometimes you lose a few inches - but it all adds up over time.
  18. Congratulations! It's a pretty awesome feeling. I travel a lot for work, too, and had basically resigned myself to forever driving or taking a train--my husband said he thought I was afraid to fly, but that wasn't it at all--I was sick with worry that I would be embarrassed at having to purchase a 2nd seat.... We recently flew to Florida for a training course, and I was thrilled to discover that I not only fit in the regular seatbelt, I had to tighten it a bit! It is such a huge relief!! Just the thought of not having that to worry about is very freeing. Yay for you and for NSV's!!
  19. So Monday was day 19 post op and (with my surgeons blessing) I went back to Crossfit. I used to work out 5 days a week, but I wanted to ease back in and told myself I would only go Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. Well, after Monday & Wednesday I was so sore that I skipped Friday. Instead I walked briskly around a track with a friend (who is getting sleeved next month!) for 1.5 hours. After doing yard work today I had the urge to get my sweat on, so our family (me, H, & 3 daughters) went on a 1.5 hr walk/hike at a local wildlife reserve that has lots of hills. I was exhausted after but glad I got in 4 days of exercise this week. My alarm is already set for 4:30 am so I can go back to Crossfit tomorrow morning I'm officially in the 3 week stall, btw. The scale hasn't moved since Wednesday. I'm doing great with my protein & fluids. I'm keeping my sugar & carbs down (between 20 & 30) and tracking EVERYTHING in my app, so I'm just gonna have to wait this out. Also had my 1st NSV today - I wore shorts! I had these shorts for 4+ years but always had such a muffin top that I wouldn't wear them. On a whim I tried them today & they are huge on me. I had to constantly pull them up
  20. @@Elode Fall NSV's (1) Hunting for a great Halloween costume to wear to a dinner party. (2) My Second Turkey Day 5K since surgery. This has become my new thanksgiving holiday tradition. (3)My first fall at this size. Its my excuse to get a new fall/winter wardrobe.
  21. We are finally getting the cold fall weather here in Missouri. I've waited years to wear boots that would zip around my larger calves and now that I can I've been sporting them proudly. I've been shopping for all fall clothes and it's just amazing how different the experience has been from last fall. Last fall I was wearing a size 18 (snug) and this year I'm shopping for size 8 which opens up a lot of new options I never had before. My goal is to do as may fun fall inspired activities outside with the kids that I can. Thing I never did with them like apple picking, hay rides, corn mazes, visiting the pumpkin patch, fall festivals ect... I feel alive now. I'm excited to get out and live this fall as apposed to sitting in the house being unhealthy and sluggish. I love fall! Unlike summer I can dress to cover up the parts of my body I'm not thrilled with yet and not look like a crazy loon wearing long sleeves in the middle of summer This is going to be the best fall in all of EVER! Ha! So what are you looking forward to?
  22. Firefly - It is VERY liberating. Other than seeing my collarbone for the first time in years, this was probably the most exciting NSV I've had!!! Who would have ever guessed throwing perfectly good pizza away would feel so darn good!!!!!!?????

    Funny NSV

I love it! We should probably have a new thread here called "mistaken identity" as several folks lately have posted stories along the same line where a family member doesn't recognize you because you have lost so much weight! Congratulations....a great NSV!
  24. AnewMe@28

    Funny NSV

That's a great NSV. Nothing like being a new person but still you. (If that makes any sense.)

    Nsv

Today I went shopping and did not have to go to the plus size section!! I'm wearing an extra large in most clothes and almost in a regular 16 in pants. My 16w are getting to big. HOWEVER- I've been getting this weird feeling of tiredness coming on and off all day long. I did the warm up exe on wii Zumba and was dizzy after 8 mins. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
