Removal Surgeon In Dallas/plano/frisco??
skinnyhedi replied to skinnyhedi's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
@Louisianalady~ Who did you use in Shreveport? That is about 1 1/2 hours away from me as opposed to 3 to Dallas and closer is always better if the care is as good.In the case of my band Dr. here in Texarkana closer did not equal better care. Did he remove your band or revise? Thanks for any info. I haven't yet seen the Dr. in Dallas yet (have an appointment) and it costs me about $100 just to get there! -
Well it will be a year for me on Saturday. I have lost 30 - 45ish pounds depending on whose scale I am on. I see my surgeon in two weeks so that will be my next official weigh in. However, I am going to try to get a fill today. This is my last "free" fill so I hope it works. My port is almost flipped completely. If they aren't able to fill it then I will go in for a port revision and get additional fill at that time. I find that I am able to eat way more than I should. So I guess the weightloss this spring has loosened the band up some. So I view that as a positive although an aggravating one. Sounds like everybody is doing great. Myra

Well I'm hanging in there. Not losing but not gaining. I have an appointment June 1 to see my surgeon. I can't get another fill until I get my flipped port revised. He told me on the last appointment he would do that and a fill at the same time. So I am assuming when I go June 1st we will be setting up the revision surgery. I am required by insurance to have that done at the hospital. So I hope to get that done in June. In the mean time I am going to enjoy eating a few things I normally can't but in much smaller amounts. :target: M

RNY for Children - Thoughts?
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think a serious analysis of the household would be needed. If the child has the surgery but then is sent back to the same environment where he is surrounded by the same types of food and no real support or understanding, that's basically a setup for disaster or at minimum a future revision. I also don't agree that gender changing decisions should be made prior to age 18 for similar reason - lifelong impact without a full grasp of implications. I would certainly, in both situations, have the individual be (for the most part) out of puberty. Yes, I realize your brain continues developing for some time after, etc. It just makes me feel.... uncomfortable. Again, I think I would be more amenable to it if the child was exhibiting serious comorbidities but I was super morbidly obese for years without any (except pseudo tumor cerebri just a few months before I had RNY) so, it's not as if everyone needs the surgery immediately. I'd like to see the child have the chance to make the lifestyle changes on their own as an adult if they didn't have comorbidities. Give them a chance to change without the surgery. -
RYGB reversal/revision into sleeve
southern sassy posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my initial RYGB in September of 2003. My highest weight I was around 385. In the course of the first year I went down to 200 lbs. I was so excited and I thought I had found the magic pill and that I would keep losing. I platitude and then got pregnant with my son. The years later I had my daughter. For the next few years I went up and down between 240-275. I began to have complications and in and out of hospitals. I had a perforated ulcer, a hernia and small revisions to my pouch. Trimming down helped a little then I had more ulcers. Always in the same spot where the main connection to the pouch. Finally after a lengthy FMLA I lost my job and stayed immobile because of the pain of ulcers. My surgeon and I decided that the option of revision would be my best way to get back into a healthy more productive quality of life. My surgery is set for March 28,2016. The surgery will reverse the gastric bypass and then the get will create the gastric sleeve and remove any scarring and my stomach remains. I will post more after the surgery. RYGB reversal/revision into sleeve
JamieLogical replied to southern sassy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow. You are the first person I've ever heard of revising from RNY to VSG. In fact, I think you are the first person I've ever heard of having their RNY reversed. I know they say that RNY is reversible and that's one of the reasons some people choose it over sleeve in the first place (since sleeve clearly isn't reversible), but I'd never heard of it actually being done! I am very curious to hear more about how your journey goes. I hope that you can be successful with your sleeve! -
Hello, This is my first time to post anything, 4 days ago I had a revision from the lap band to the Vertical Sleeve. I had the band for 8 years and lost 60 lbs BUT....in the past 2 years had gained it all back. The morning of the sleeve surgery I was the exact same weight as when I was originally banded. I was 314 the morning of surgery and hope to get to 160-175.... only 4 days in, so the struggle is to get enough liquids/protein by tiny sips. I spent 2 nights in the hospital and am a self pay, insurance would not cover.

Whose insurance covered their surgery & sends you the checks to give to the surgeon?
emjay replied to JoeyZLoisL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds to me like your insurance company made a mistake. I would hate for you to be caught in the middle since the check is made in your name, but if they decide to try and get some money returned, you've already sent the money to the providers. Check with Anthem to make sure it was processed correctly. I can hardly believe they would pay $75,000 for what you had done, especially out of network. Normally what is paid is what is considered "usual and customary", not just whatever the provider pays. That being said and knowing that in different regions the cost of the surgery, etc. is much different, it shouldn't be that different. My surgery was close to $16,000 for everything plus 2 years of free fills, checkups, free physician fees if I need a port revision or have complications. If it cost that much in California, I would think alot of self-payers would be coming this way to get surgery done. And, if it cost much less if your self-pay, then something does not sound right and your insurance did not take into account what is considered UCR in your area. This may be found on a routine audit they do or from another company that specializes in finding billing errors. Better be safe than sorry! -
Some really good advice here for you......I was living too tight for months because I liked being very small.....I exercised like I was eating and kept my wt down..but my life was horrible...I love eating out socially and it came down to bathroom trips every time I ate anything. Acid refux and constant stomach burning.....Never again...Now I am 4 months post op band revision and still balancing exercise with food and beverages intake. I am going for a tiny adjustment next week and if it leads to suffering again I will have that same quantity removed ASAP!!! I agree you should be unfilled for at least 30 days and even gastroscoped to check your pouch and stomach. I extend much sympathy for what your are going through and wish you the best of luck. If you post some more about your journey I will be reading them. Mimi

I had my revision from band to sleeve about 6 months ago. I lost about 25 pounds in the first 3 months then nothing. I sometimes wonder if they forgot to do the sleeve as I can eat anything in larger amounts than most others. I know just because you can doesn't mean you should but the same was true before WLS and since I don't feel much if any different than before WLS it is really tough. Regardless I am here to publically recommit to following the rules of the sleeve regardless of the hunger that I constantly feel. Wish me luck and any words of encouragement or suggestions that have worked for you would be greatly appreciated!

What was the deciding factor?
girliegirl replied to Tgarden's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i met with the last dr i wanted to see this past friday and he didn't seem overly concerned with my issues of having the lap band and then the revision and then it removed. he was also happy that i had have a 5 yr span since the last surgery until now. he said of course the surgery will take a little longer but he really won't know what type of scar tissue if any until he gets in there. he seemed confident, as he also deals with hard to handle cases from other doctors as well. now ill start some of the testing that needs to be done. I'm nervous, but taking it one step at a time. i want this so bad. he also said it sounds to him like I'm only focusing on the bad things that COULD happen, which are rare. he says i need to stay focused on the good!! i think he is right. I'm worrying about leaks and things that didn't and hopefully won't ever happen to me. i guess its because of the troubles i had with the band. trying to stay positive and not such a worrier in the future!! -
UPDATE: I got my second opinion today...
Nanook replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cleo's Mom, Those type of experiences you've had at your surgeon's office can directly affect how your band works! I had a similar situation but in the opposite way where the tech thought I had the "smaller" band and put in too little (twice) and thinking all along that I should have restriction until I finally went and had my surgeon put in the next fill and he found out the error she had made. Then he put in more than I needed at the time. The tech also wrote down the wrong amount gave me too much and I needed an emergency unfill. So my band never worked for me but I do think that these types of mistakes contributed to my not being successful with the band and my eventual removal and now revision to RNY. I hope you're able to keep yours and work out the problems but as you can see there are more and more revising to sleeves and other types of WLS here at LBT who when I was searching in the beginning to figure out why my band wasn't working like everyone else it appeared here no one seemed to have problems unless they PM'd me secretly to let me know. Now things have really changed. Good luck to you and I hope you stay healthy! Nancy. -
I am scheduled for revision from sleeve to rny on Aug 10th. My question is, how soon is it safe to travel? I am scheduled for a long driving trip about week 7 post surgery. (Trip was scheduled months before gettin insurance approval and surgery date.) I plan on taking frequent breaks and overnight stops as well as sharing driving responsibilities. Is there any real concerns as long as I follow diet and fluid intake protocols? I recovered quickly after my sleeve surgery, but I have no idea what to expect with the revision. Did any of you travel soon after surgery? Sent from my SM-T500 using BariatricPal mobile app

I have relost a 40 lb regain since November using Keto. it was fairly easy but I'm still working toward goal, and actually facing a possible revision to RNY because of persistent GERD. I'm 4 years out VSG and would do it again in a second.

I had my revision on 1/15/13
spoiledbratt97 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So I had my revision yesterday and I'm feeling good. No nausea, no pain, no gas. I've been walking around with no problems. Despite the circumstances, I think I'm doing quite well. The dr took about a 1hr n half bcuz I had a lot of scar tissue and a hilated hernia. The hernia was so bad that it cause my stomach walls to become very thin. So I'm on liquids for a month and puree for almost a month. Its going to be hard, but I have to do what I have to do. So glad I did the revision. I'm ready for the bright future. -
I am so glad to see this post. I too am doing a band to sleeve revision. My surgery is June 10th. Thank you to everyone who posted how well they are doing! It makes me feel calmer about this surgery.

Surgery is scheduled for June 2. In one week I will be having my revision surgery. Hopefully all in one surgery they will remove my Adjustable Gastric Band (AGB) and do the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG). AGB to VSG in TJ MX.

insurance pay from lap band to sleeve
Dream4tc replied to lauriearnold's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If there is a documented problem with the band, then it is considered a complication and insurance will cover, but it has to be documented. Most of the time insurance will cover removal and revision to sleeve if you still qualify for bariatric surgery with BMI >35 and comorbidities. Best of luck to you -
From Idol weight to Anorexia to Overweight
soccermom2 replied to sksh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm probably not the best to respond since I am still pre-op but you post really got to me. I am so sorry that you've gone through all of this. Have you thought about revision surgery? I have seen a few people on these forums who had regain or didn't lose as much as they wanted. They did a revision to the mini gastric bypass or full gastric bypass and had a lot of success with it. Of course I don't know if you meet the BMI requirements or not for that. I've also seen people do a "pouch reset" where you go back to what you were doing in the beginning right after surgery. Liquid diet, then purees, etc. It's supposed to help regain some restriction. I really think you should try seeing a therapist too. They can help with the depression you have & even help with the binge eating problems. Are you exercising? Using a Fitbit helped me a lot. I thought I was active but I was gaining weight. Then I tracked with my Fitbit and was actually only getting around 4,000-5,000 steps a day when I'm supposed to get 10,000. -
Ok let me revise I haven't lost anything in 5 weeks as far as the scale but I have lost a total of 11 1/2" at three measure points usually around 1" a week I guess what I'm saying is I wish the scale would hurry up and catch up with my inches cause I really don't see the inches as much as the scale I guess it's a mind game but thanks everyone

I'm just wondering if anyone out there was or has a lapband with a plication. I was told by my PA that she doesn't think the sleeve is an option after having the plication with band. Has anyone ever had one after a band with plication? Or what revision have you had?

How long before I can enjoy a meal again?
LAJ23 replied to LAJ23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh... I'm so sorry you have to go thru another surgery. I don't think I could deal with that. At this point, the pain isn't that severe, it's just constant and annoying. I don't get a "full" feeling like I did pre-op. Instead, I have to really pay attention when I eat as I get the discomfort every time I eat or drink, and the only way I know I'm full is when the discomfort gets really bad. It's so annoying! Good luck with your revision! -
Removing the Band....weight gain & recovery experience
HoneyBadGirl replied to PrettyPuffy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was banded 3/2007 and had the revision 9/2013. i had 1 procedure done, removal and sleeved. my recovery was great!!! actually, it was waaaaay better than when i got banded!! when i got banded i felt like i was hit by a truck in my stomach. it took a week to feel kind of normal again. when the revision was done, the 2nd day i was fine to up and around and hardly any pain. of course, everyone is different but i was pleasantly surprised. wishing you the best!!
