  1. Lost 100 pounds through my band seven years ago and maintained but regained 50 due to two pregnancies and a major slip. Just revised to mini bypass last Friday. Very happy to have had my band but very happy to revise also!

    Pasta Anyone?

@@CowgirlJane, I love the advice you have been giving people. You are a true success story with the revision and I hope that I can be as successful as you are
  3. Thank you cowgirl for your sensible and assuring reply. I remember when I was on the lap band forum - there was one thread for those who were revising to the gastric sleeve. This was several years ago. I remember that almost every one who had this done said: "The sleeve is what I thought the band was going to be like." I had the same experience with the band as you did. It didn't do one thing it was promoted as doing. A year after it was put in, I had a severe stuck episode that required a trip to the ER. I have never been in such pain in my life. I was in so much pain I couldn't talk. I don't think getting shot could be more painful. The person who drove me had to talk for me. I was given dilaudid (sp?) and even that just dulled the pain a little. I was vomiting, too. That was 2009. All the fill was taken out of my band. However, I still get stuck sometimes but have learned how to make myself vomit. Not pleasant. There is no rhyme or reason as to when that will happen. One small bite of chicken breast could do it. Do you get stuck with the sleeve? I sure never want to go through that experience again. Btw, I love the picture of the horse. When I was a young girl I used to fantasize about a horse like that. Beautiful.
  4. I'm two years out but also having great success. I do hope that you feel better with the revision surgery. I watch these posts closely as I would be very unhappy if I had to have my band removed.
  5. I totally understand your fears. Mine were so similar. The one thing I did know was the band needed to come out! I wasn't really having any problems but I felt like something wasn't quite right and had gained most my weight back. Remember how well you did with the band in the beginning when it was all so new? Once you get a bad fill then it's all downhill from there. Well, did the revision- turns out the band had slipped and formed a hernia. I'm in the beginning phases of the sleeve and am following the rules just like I did with the band. I know it's up to me for this to be successful. I know I'm going to have my ups & downs but this was a chance I was willing to take. Good luck to you in your journey

    Reflux

That makes me hopeful. I realize that my situation may not turn out like yours, but fingers crossed. My drs office seems pretty concerned also. They've already mentioned sending me to GI dr and another surgery was casually mentioned at last appt. Not a revision to bypass, but an adjustment to the hernia repair. Not quite sure what that entails. I do not want another surgery and absolutely don't want to be back on liquid diet. We will see...... ????

    Finally joined the forums!

I am sure you will do well. There are quite a few band/sleeve revision people on this forum and they seem to do fine.
  8. I have the band and am looking to revise to sleeve next month (pending approval). I've read many sleeve success stories and they can be encouraging. However, the stories from people feeling like the procedure didn't work for them, and those who have not lost weight or gained it back, are causing me to wonder if this is the right thing for me to do. The types of posts that worry me are those that say things like: I don't have any restriction and I never did I used to have restriction but now I don't It took a long time to get restriction I can eat more with the sleeve than I could with the band I can eat whatever I want. I don't want that! I want something to stop me from eating because I seem unable to stop myself! I'm starting to wonder how effective this procedure will really be....Will I be the reason the sleeve fails, just like I was the reason I failed with the band? I lost 40 pounds with band and have 40 to go. I have not lost the second 40 and have not been able to get the band adjustment correct (always too loose or throwing up everything I eat). I'm not miserable with the band and it has helped me to keep the 40 pounds off nicely. I just have not lost any more than that. I can, and do, eat too many calories everyday (1300-1500 about 100--120 carbs because I can) and I don't exercise much because I have lost my motiviation. Obviously, I'm the reason I have not lost weight (I know that and don't need to be told) - but I did think the band would help me to eat less than that! I don't eat slider foods, except maybe my Protein drinks and FF Greek yogurt. I don't eat a lot of junk - I just eat too much, plus the occasional nibble of something bad - today it was 1 brownie bite, yesterday it was 9 tortilla chips, the day before that it was more cheese than I sould have had on a salad, tomorrow it will be something like too much salad dressing. I do realize that I have to show some self-control - but that is why I failed with traditional diets. I can show self-control for a while, but then I give up. Am I doomed to fail no matter what I do? Is the sleeve really that much different or better than the band or traditional dieting? I realize I have to do the work, but I honestly thought WLS was going to make it ieasier to eat less. Maybe I'm just ranting. I am feeling pretty discouraged and hopeless. I want to believe in the sleeve, but I also do not want to set myself up for disappointment. Were you disapointed? Maybe this sleeve thing is too good to be true?
  9. Since having the revision i crave extremely spicy food! But, and its a big BUT i soon developed GERD once i was onto normal foods and i cannot touch spicy stuff in any way .. Im a little sad about it but i can live with it as it is *shrug*
  10. I had two separate operations 10 weeks apart; 1 to remove the band and to enable my oesophagus to go back into shape as the band had formed a pouch above it. 2nd to have the revision. Im in Australia and this was covered by my insurance as the band failed. Ive lost more weight now with the sleeve in 4 months than what i ever lost in 4 years with the band!! I love love love my sleeve and wish i had this option sooner! Best of luck to you with your journey ahead xox
  11. My insurance approved it already. Waiting for Tampa General to give me a date and time for my Revision from vbg to rny.
  12. Hi everybody. I've been reading the forums and cheering yall on for a few months now. I currently have the lap band. I've had it a few years and was never really successful with it. The little bit that I lost I gained back plus some. I made the decision to have the revision to sleeve done. It took me about a year to make that decision but I'm hoping to finally live my life to the fullest. I got the call today that I'm approved! I'm scheduled for March 2nd. Seems as if it took forever to get here but now seems like a whirlwind. I'm very excited and very afraid to fail at this one too. Yall are so encouraging and informative. I can't wait!

The Rules: Do you follow them?

I have to say, once I hit my 1st goal weight I started to let myself slip in the "rules" area a little bit. I bounced back and forth between 140-145 for the longest time - like months and months. Well I revised my goal to 135 and I really want to get there. So I've started really tightening up on myself. Getting back to the basics, and I've lost 6.6 pounds in the past week and a half. So if you do what you know works, it will work. If you let yourself slip here and there you may not gain a ton, but you won't lose either. At least that was my experience. So the "rules" that I stick to now: no more than 40g of carbs at least 65 g of Protein at least 80 oz of Water planned Snacks (not grazing) cut out the sugar altogether...cold turkey (and after the first week or so, my cravings really lessened) Nothing after 8pm I also try to get in a Protein Drink every day, whether it be a shake or protein hot chocolate because it gives me a lot of protein and few carbs.

    so disappointed

Don't completely rule out RNY without doing your research. There is a reason why most insurance companies approve this surgery for obesity. I was very concerned myself when it was recommended for me to have RNY instead of the sleeve. I had diabetes, reflux, high blood pressure and apnea. I went with RNY because the research told me it was very likely that it would resolve my reflux where the sleeve could/would make refluz worse. All of my comorbidities have resolved and I feel great. Before you decide please do your research. I would hate to see you end up having one surgery only to have a revision later.
  16. Since I normally post in the "band to bypass" thread I'll try to make a long story short lol. I had the lapband put in on 2.22.10 Band was removed and bypass revision was done on 8.1.14 due to band slipping and not being able to eat solid foods for months. Starting weight for band was 277, starting weight for bypass was 213. I had my 6 month appointment on the 3rd with my surgeon in which I weighed in at 145. I told my surgeon that my personal goal was 155 and that I wanted to learn how to maintain/stop losing. She agreed that I was in a good spot and gave me some suggestions. I've been monitoring my weight for the past week and the scale always reads (no matter the time of day) 140lbs. (My scale is spot on with my surgeons). I've lost another 5lbs and its starting to concern me a little. I know that your body will eventually level out but I dont want my body to think that being under 140lbs is acceptable. I'm starting to look "sickly looking" and the "when are you going to stop losing weight" comments are getting a little much. Has anyone else gone through this, going much further under your goal, did it bounce back or finally stop before you disappeared? Trust me, I'm not trying to complain, I love slipping into a size 6 jeans (from a size 24/26) but I'd like to keep a little meat on my bones! lol.

    Tubing flipped up!

Has anyone every heard of that? My band is in place but somehow the tubing goes up above the band and down. My surgeon said it wasn't placed that way. So when I eat it makes the tubing press against my diaphram and gives me referred pain in my lower left back. CRAZY! So I'm wondering if I should have it out. My surgeon just wants to do a revision because he doesn't like lap bands because of all the maintenance. Rebecca
  18. No don't be worried. I just had the revision from band to sleeve. My surgeon said that's what he's been doing with most of his lapband patients
  19. Any one had lap band revision done in Syracuse NY at Upstate hospitol?

  20. I cried before my date and even in the hospital prior to surgery. Mine was a revision surgery & I think I was more nervous about what the doc was going to find. It turned out fine & I was so relieved after that I had a speedy recovery
  21. My surgery date is March 6 in Tijuana with Dr Ortiz. I am doing a revision, I had the lap band done almost 11 years ago, and I have been so unhappy with it. I went through alighterme.com. I am pretty excited but also very nervous, I am going by myself which doesn't really help, so I would love to have a support group in place. Good luck to all the March Sleevers out there!

    Band removal

There was too much swelling of the stomach for the surgeon to get a clean cut for a revision, so he's making me wait 3 months before possibly doing the revision. I'm not sure at this time that I will in fact do the revision due to the financial stress of two cash surgeries within a year and a half of each other. It's been 4 days now and I'm eating normal again, which is nice. A week ago I struggled to get 20 ounces of liquids down in a whole days time.

    Band removal

Hi @@charlesoakes68, I cannot answer your questions since I have not experienced a removal, but did you already have the sleeve revision? Although I do not have any complications right now, I am not against going to a sleeve when or if I ever do. Just curious what the transition was like. -dt
  24. I have had a lot of small things wrong with my band over the years. Needless to say I keep getting reflux with every little fill. Undergoing revision on March 3rd. insurance would not pay so I'm going to do one surgery cash pay. Dr said shouldn't take more than 2 hrs.
  25. I am undergoing lap band removal with revision to sleeve on my 7th wedding anniversary 3/3/15!! Having to do cash pay this go round but thankful I have a supportive husband.
