Calories

I am 5 weeks out and doing the same as you. 4-500 calories per day, 60g protein and 64oz of water. This is what is recommended by my dr. I suppose if you go low fat and eat 1/4cup size you will automatically have 500 cal. Once we move up to 1/3 cup it will increase. I feel good except very low on energy. How about you?
2. Actually noticing results! I took the picture on the right the week before my surgery when I went to my last hibachi dinner and the picture on the left this morning! Down 30! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sleep apnea

I would ask your surgeon when you see him who will be ordering your cpap. Get the number from him if its not him and call them. Make sure you get the number and check on them about your status. If you get a surgery date tell whomever is ordering your cpap your surgery date and stay on top of them. For me I had to call them many times to make sure I knew where I stood in regards to what stage of the process I was at with them. Its some paperwork they have to submit to your insurance company and some office work so I its a good idea to call them. I called once a week for 3 weeks. I live in joliet il

FINALLY Got a Good Fill

Hey, hey! I was at 2.2 for the duration of my weightloss. Didn't need anymore fills. At times the scales would move only .3, yeah 1/3rd pound in 2-3 weeks. But I always said to myself..... as long as it's going in the right direction..... Congrats!

boy this is when i wish i had a feeding tube. i had the band two weeks ago so im not surl=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/w31X0c5/] ure what to do.

7. I could have done the beach, restaurant and club thing (no dancing), but the paintball would have been tough (at least the way we play)....maybe save that for the end of the 2 weeks. I was out shopping the day after surgery and walked a couple miles every day. I flew alone and then drove myself home 5 hours and plowed my driveway on days 3 and 4. Laid on the couch day 5. Ran errands, grocery shopping, haircut and laundry day 6. Back to work at a physical job day 7. I was tired, of course, but had no problems.

Acid Reflux

I never had acid reflux before surgery, but it was horrible right after. I started on Prilosec OTC every morning, and Zantac at bedtime. After 4 weeks I was able to quit taking the Zantac but I still take Prilosec in the morning. I am 7 weeks post-op and its getting much better! Hoping to discontinue the Prilosec at month 3 and see how it goes...

Got My Date!!!! March 21

Congratulations Cathy! You must be so excited on getting your surgical date. I like your idea of getting off of carbs and sodas earlier. My doc also does not require to 2 week liquid diet that some folks here have to have. I will have a 2 wk Atkins-type diet with higher protein and low carbs prior to surgery. I don't know my date yet but I have ordered some sample Unjury protein drinks to try and plan to hit GNC today to pick up some Isopure to sample. Thanks for posting and I look forward to hearing how you do! Good luck.

Got My Date!!!! March 21

The way I eliminated caffiene (coffee) We would do half caff and half decaf. Every week for several months untill we were both drinking decaf coffee. As far as the sodas, I just decided since I was having this surgery for my health and well being the sodas needed to go. I had six months to get rid of them (doing the six months for insurance purposes) So we just stopped buying them. And bought crystal light in different flavors. I also drink decaf tea sweetened with splenda. I honestly can not tell the difference. I wish you all of the luck in trying to get away from it. It is hard. But being commited will empower you to make it. Deb

12. I was banded 03/26/2010 and I am just at 2 weeks post op. I had during the first week an a half off sharp pain in the very top of my left shoulder and across my mid back. The Doctor and Nurses I spoke to about it kept saying it was probably gas from the surgery and that it will need to work itself out. For me it does seem like it has worked itself out, I no longer am feeeling it. It seemed to feel better as my activity level increased after surgery, I think a good walk in the fresh air is what helped me the most. Hope you feel better soon.

Anxious about Fill

Inamed does not vary. It's 6 weeks after surgery. Then 4 weeks later for the second fill. Docs can vary but the recommendations don't.

15. My husband and I both had the surgery 2 weeks apart... Has made us stronger if anything... We are each others biggest supporters. The only big change is the sex... Lots of it now... Sorry tmi I know:)

How can I accelerate weight loss?

You have lost over 33% of your excess weight in only 7 weeks. Celebrate your achievement. Looking to accelerate things will only bring you down cos if you are self critical you will end up labelling yourself a failure when you are not. You are a winner.
17. I am more than 6 months post-op and doing well. My weight, blood levels, etc., are all at the point that my surgeon hopes to see at a YEAR post-op; she and my Nut were both very impressed and supportive at my 6month visit. I am saying this just so people realize I AM following the program... mostly... It is school vacation week and I decided to treat myself; I went to the Chinese buffet for lunch. Nobody else in my family likes this kind of meal, so I usually take myself to lunch once or twice a year. I have been doing really well with portion control, so thought I was ready. I ate the filling from two crab rangoons, the meat from inside one dumpling, a small chicken meatball, most of a 3" piece of chicken teriyaki, a 2" piece of boneless rib, and part of the meat (no skin, no coating) from a piece of chicken wing. I'd been eating slowly and was feeling full, but not bad, so I decided to have some ice cream. I LOVE the soft serve at the buffet, and thought I'd be OK. Four slow, small bites of ice cream and I was hustling off to the bathroom, where most of my lunch came back up! You might wonder why I thought Chinese buffet would be an OK thing. Well, I have had eggs foo yung several times since surgery, successfully. I buy the quart-sized box, don't eat the rice or gravy, and one box gives me one or two dinners AND three or four lunches. I mean, it's mostly eggs and veg (and grease... but I scrape off as much of the gravy as humanly possible). I thought if I am OK with this, I should be OK with the appetizer-type foods- and a treat trip to the buffet is a vacation tradition for me! Looking at it now, I realize I ate way more than I'd usually eat in a meal; it looked like not much because of the parts I wasn't eating, and it's SO MUCH less than I used to eat, but when I think about the sheer quantity of the food, I can see what the problem was: TOO MUCH FOOD! You know what else, though? I didn't enjoy it like I used to enjoy it. I don't revel in the greasiness anymore- fat/grease makes me kind-of want to gag a little bit. However, my relationship to food has changed. I realize now that part of my food-affair was the sheer quantity of food that I could eat. I can't eat like that anymore, and I don't miss it. Don't get me wrong- some of that food yesterday tasted delicious- but it's not the same anymore, and I am fine with that. Honestly, remembering how I felt all afternoon and evening, I don't think I'll be tempted by the Chinese buffet again!

Questions, Please Help!

Drinking is very important. I still struggle with getting in all my liquids and I got sleeved in Dec 2011. I used Light muscle milk to drink for my protein, and used whey isolate as well. I mixed in a few strawberries instead of ice and it gave it a pretty good taste. It does get easier every week do hang in there and congrats on your weight loss!!

Dreaded Stall, 3 wks out...

I just got over the 3 week stall. Mine lasted about a week. Doctors and everyone here assured me it would correct itself, so I didn't change my eating habits any.
20. Hi All, I'm 5 weeks post sleeve and am using ScarGuard daily to try and fade & smooth out these 5 scars as soon as possible. I'm wondering what other people are using for their scars. Also, can you post how far you are out from surgery and how your scars are looking? FYI, I am a natural redhead and very fair-skinned. People with a fairer skin tone tend to wind up with less visible scars in the long run from what I understand.
21. First I get a result from my dobutamine stress test that indicates I need to see the cardiologist....which has me in a panic that I wont get the surgery. Today I saw him and he could not understand why I was there as nothing in my results indicated the need. While relieve, I could not help being a bit bitter about having to pay $25 of our limited funds to be told this. Meanwhile I was so affected by the dobutamine I postponed my colonoscopy until this week from last Friday. Mind you, this is not normally on the list of required tests...but since I am due for it (sorry for the tmi but I had two polyps on the last one so need another after three years and my WLS doc wants it done before my sleeve). Last Thursday my sleep study results came back and I have apnea. Not too surprised, and more than willing to use the machine... Then I get a phone call from the Gastro department that the apnea dx means I need a general anesthetic for my colonoscopy and THAT WILL DELAY IT UNTIL POSSIBLY JUNE!!!!! I am beyond freaked- with the cardiologist out of the way and my psych eval coming up in two weeks, my nutritionist has said she will help me get the surgery in April, May at the latest. WTF!!!!!! The wacky thing is if I had only had my procedure last week..... DANG!!!!! I had one three years ago with the same doctor with no problem whatsoever for the twilight sleep. The fact that anesthesiologists are only available that far out could totally ruin my chances to have it before June, when we are plunged into our busy season as wedding photographers.
22. I just hit Onederland this morning and now I'm faced with making a final goal. To those who are now on maintenance, how did you pick your final goal? Did you pick a final number and worked to hit that? Or did you just let your body do what it was going to do and once it stopped that was it? My goal was 175 but the weight loss has been so quick with no stalls or slow downs that I'm starting to think maybe I should go lower. But I can't imagine my body at less than 175. It seems so weird and foreign to me. So what do you think? What should I do? What did you do or what do you plan to do? Thanks!
23. That's great! They told me I should get a call by mid next week for the appointment to sign the consent. In hoping I get this surgery by beginning of May because I have my graduation in June. I'm definitely going to miss picking up my son. It's going to be hard but I know this well be worth it. Best of luck to you. So exciting

Need advice/words of encouragement....

I was banded a year ago this past September and I ahve done very well. However earlier in the year I had to get a bit unfilled due to a bulge that developed and then I was refilled but slowly, then in June I had the gallbladder removed and a week or so after that I had to get another unfill, yep broke my heart and I had to get a upper GI before the Dr. would fill me back up. Well he did this in July and all went well with the fill I am only at 5 cc in my 10cc band. I have not had any weightloss since May of this year and I just don't get it. I do watch what I eat and I exercise my butt off. I have weiged between 178-180 pounds for several months and this is getting old real fast and discouraging. I dropped from a size 26 to a misses size 12, yep a huge change and I need to drop another 20 pounds and I will be so happy. I still have restriction becuase I can feel it and sometimes I have to PB but not too often. I guess I need another fill but befopre doing so I want another upper GI to be sure that I am not obstrusted by another pouch, by another pouch developing on its own can cause a person not to lose weight, so I have ben told. So now what do I get a fill or try diet aides?
25. Hi folks Found this site whilst browsing lap band procedures out of desperation. I'm Kim, 46, live in Southampton, and I've never had a weight problem until I had a number of gynae related problems then a partial hysterectomy in 2007 then the rest out in 2011. Been on HRT since then and by weight has balloned. I am only 5 feet 1 so every stone makes me look like a hippo. Seeing photographs of me recently has made be so depressed, no matter how little I eat nothing seems to make a difference. I have been on a low calorie liquid diet for a few weeks now and haven't lost a pound; I feel something is quite wrong with my metabolism but my GP says just eat less and move move more. The moving thing would be easy except I have a disability, chronic asthma and cannot walk very far without excrutiating pain in my feet. I suffer from calcified tendons which can happen at any time, at the moment I have calcific achilles tendons and can barely walk more than 5 paces without having to stop and also have calcific tendonitis in my shoulders which prevent me from swimming. A few years ago I could swim 100 lenghts of my local pool in 90 mins, today I would be lucky to manage one :-( I know that loosing weight would help my physical conditions and improve my general wellbeing but as I can't exercise I am on a road to nowhere. It seems a gastric band is my only hope to restrict my food intake to a bare minimum. What upsets me is that I am not a massive eater anyway, never eat bread, don't like sweets, rarely eat chocolate, and have cut my alcohol intake to a few social glasses of wine at the weekends. I don't know what has made me put on so much weight but it seems that nothing I do works to resolve the weight problems. I am going to look into going to Belgium for the surgery, there seems to be a lot of people that have chose this option. Can anyone point me in the right direction here ? I know there are many posts on this and the particular surgeon but to save me hours wading through them is there a quick bullet point list on how to contact said Surgeon, make the arrangements, what to expect etc ? Thanks for letting me having a rant....feel a bit better now :-) Have a great weekend K x
