The nurse called me from hospital the day before surgery as well but one of my medications I needed to be off of a few weeks before surgery and the surgeon told me when to stop that one. Did you list the phentermine on the paperwork you filled out at the surgeons office? If so and you needed to go off it sooner they should have told you. (But it couldn’t hurt to ask just in case they missed it). As far as the pre-op appointment timing that’s definitely a matter for your team. I had almost a month between the two but I have heard of people getting a call with cancellation appointment available for the same week and they must do their pre op much closer to surgery day.

Spicy food
lizonaplane replied to CurvyGirlJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been eating spicy foods since three days out (Tom Yum soup broth and Hot and Sour soup broth). I can't stand bland food. No one told me not to eat spicy food. -
Congrats! These are all questions that your surgery center will have to answer, because they are individual to your and your program. Definitely call them and ask them these things! 1) My pre-op appointment was less than 2 weeks prior to my surgery 2) The anesthesia nurse called me and told me which medications to stop taking prior to surgery and that was just for the night before/morning of surgery. I had stopped taking phentermine a long time ago because my insurance wouldn't cover it, but I was taking metformin for weight loss. Again, these are program/personal health related questions and no one on a forum can really answer when your appointments will be or which medications you should stop and when. Good luck!

I never heard anything saying spicy food was bad. I don’t like a ton of spice but I had mild spice early out (not two weeks out, I was on real food) in like taco salad or Mexican cauliflower rice bowl and I was fine. What exactly did you read and where?

To those who had a very easy recovery...
lizonaplane replied to AngieL11282's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so glad you said you had hunger. I'm three weeks out and I'm hungry all the time but it HURTS when I eat. It hurts in back on the right side. -
It's so frustrating to have something that you have eaten successfully in the past suddenly "revolt." Ironically, I had a similar experience yesterday. I ate a meal I have had multiple times in the past weeks. I did not eat too much, too fast or any of the other usual culprits. I woke up about 5 hours later and I could have sworn the monster from "Alien" was trying to escape my stomach. Like yours, the pain was in the middle of my abdomen. My stomach was gurgling horribly and I felt both nauseated and as if I needed to use the bathroom. I was not successful on either end. The pain lasted about an hour and then I was able to go back to sleep. I feel fine today but have limited eating to a few fresh berries, a shake and yogurt. I had no more pain, but there was more noises.

Hi everyone. I am two weeks postop and just started my soft foods today. Buffalo chicken dip sounded great, so I made some but not as spicy as normal. After I eat it, I was looking up about eating spicy foods after surgery and it sounds like I should not have done what I did. Do you think this will cause a problem? I’m kind of nervous that I may have damaged my stomach or something. I’m not having any pain. Thank you!

Sour Stomach/Nauseous Post Op Week 4
lizonaplane replied to MaureenA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Possibly you need a higher dose of omeprazole or whatever you're on? I'm week 3 and I haven't had those issues. Maybe someone else knows. Hope it gets better soon! -
I'm 2 weeks post-op and have absolutely no idea what is happening in there. Some times I feel what I think is hunger, but then it goes away and I start questioning if I felt anything at all. Then when I eat (still on purees), I can't really tell how much to eat or when I'm full. I do think I've started to notice a pressure in my chest that I didn't have before and I'm thinking that might be my "full" signal, so I'm trying to listen to it and let it guide my eating. Thankfully, I haven't dealt with head hunger too much, but I also did (and am still doing) a lot of work around food addiction/emotional eating before surgery to try and get ahead of some of that, knowing that I for sure struggle with it. I just have to keep reminding myself that its a process and I need to learn to listen to my body as best I can.

I'm 2 weeks post-op today and trying to figure out the new "plumbing." Luckily, I haven't had any awful reactions yet, not much to react to when I'm still on purees, but I know its coming and I just have to keep reminding myself that its all part of the process. I hope the pain passes and you feel better soon! Definitely reach out to your surgeon if it doesn't go away. A little upset is normal, days of pain is not!

I'm 63 and had my surgery August 11, 2021. So far I've lost 52 lbs., and already I feel so much better. Less pain in the joints, walking is easier. I was told by my surgeon that my weight loss might be slower, but if 52 lbs in 7 weeks is slow, that's ok with me! Hang in there during the process required for your surgery approval - mine took five months., during which I embarked on a "farewell to food" tour and gained about 24 lbs. If I had known it would take that long, I don't think I would have indulged so much! -
There are the few rare people who still have actual hunger. Are you eating snacks? I honestly think mine was head hunger, but I still couldn’t deny it every-time. As long as it’s healthy, you should be okay to incorporate snacks. I ate breakfast at 6 (or whenever I wake up) lunch at noon and dinner at 6 so with snacks at 3 and 9 I was eating every three hours. I still kept portions small and calories low but I had to eat more often than just three meals a day. The nutritionist preferred that we try to keep it to three meals a day but the NP was fine with snacks as long as they were small and healthy. In the very beginning my snacks were veggies cause of all the constipation issues I needed fiber.

Sour Stomach/Nauseous Post Op Week 4
MaureenA posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, Wondering if anyone knows when the sour stomach and morning nauseous go away post surgery? I'm week 4 and it seems worse this week than it has been. I'm on an acid reducer. -
I am 3 weeks post-op and I feel hungry all the time. I have pain when I eat, maybe from eating too quickly, but even with those, I'm hungry. I don't think it's head hunger - it feel like how it used to feel if I went 8 hours or more between meals before surgery. Everyone keeps telling me I'm NOT hungry, but that just feels like gaslighting. It's possible it's GERD, but I'm taking 20mg of omeprazole every day...

September Surgery Buddies!!
lizonaplane replied to happilylacey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are dehydrated BECAUSE you are not getting any liquids down. Keep sipping SLOWLY throughout the day. I found I had to hold a bottle of water or other liquid in my hand all day long to keep drinking enough. I would just take a few small sips every few minutes. Some people set alarms. By the end of the first week I had no trouble getting 80 oz of fluid in, but I don't think everyone is able to do that. Call your surgery center if you are concerned. -
NSV: Blood pressure medication
vikingbeast replied to vikingbeast's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
LOL! I meant I didn't expect my blood pressure to regulate itself with only 33 lbs of weight loss! Yes, I'm well aware of the Dread Stall. I shall change nothing (other than moving to purées and soft foods which I do tomorrow). And if it stalls, it stalls. -
Weight loss stall 3 weeks after sleeve?
Smanky replied to erica1030's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep - MGB surgery on the 22nd, and stalled second week post surgery. It's frustrating, but normal. Do a google search on the medical reasons it happens and it'll make you feel ok about it. It did with me. Just got to ride it out. -
NSV: Blood pressure medication

Congratulations! "Only" 33 pounds in the 3 weeks since surgery! How do you show your face? You must be so ashamed of yourself. 🤣 Be warned you are on the threshold of the infamous 3-week stall. Before you panic and post about your stall, search "3 week stall" then change nothing and keep doing what you are doing. Good luck, Tek -
Here are pics from my vacation exactly one year ago ( The first three in the Yellow shirt) and from my vacation last week. I had my first consult with my surgeon about 3 weeks after I got home from vacation last year. What a difference a year makes!

September Surgery Buddies!!
LizzieD replied to happilylacey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey, Those days are very normal. I went through several myself. Your taste buds will change and adjust as time goes on. I'm a month out and some have gone back but some have stayed different. There were points when I questioned what I did and wished for my old stomach back. It does pass. It took me a good two weeks to feel like a human being again and three weeks to enter the world. Take your time, be good to yourself. Oh, and don't go off of anyone else's timeline. I made that mistake and ended up back in the hospital needing fluids for dehydration. Good luck!
