    Dealing with gastroparesis

I am 100% sure I got it from victoza. Surgeon said if it was from something other than that then we would be most likely revising the sleeve to a rny

    Thunder thighs.

Yeah, luckily my tummy tuck held up through all my weight fluctuations after my plastics, so even though I ultimately got up to 80 pounds over my plastic surgery weight, I don't think I'll need any revisions to it once I achieve my post-sleeve goal weight.

    Hair issues. Of course

I'm having a revision on Mar 3, but I did lose a LOT of hair the first time. It grew back. Surgery shocks your body. Then the rapid weight loss disturbs your system more. Really keep up with your Protein. Biotin, and just all of the Vitamins in general will help some. Use shampoos that don't leave a waxy coating on your scalp so the new hair can grow in easily. A few people might not experience the hair loss, but doing what you can to ensure healthy regrowth is worth it.
  4. OOH WEE SWEETIE I THOUGHT I HAD IT BAD. YOU'VE GOT TO BE WRONG. 25 POUNDS IN 3 MONTHS? YOU DIDN'T START OUT AS HEAVY AS MOST OF US BUT DANG! I'M WITH YOU THOUGH. I'M 8 WEEKS OUT YESTERDAY. I HAD AT LEAST 3 WEEKS WHEN I GAINED. GAINED AND I WAS EATING LIKE 500 - 700 CALORIES!!! THEN I WOULD HAVE MAYBE A 3 LB LOST. THANK YOU JESUS! LAST WEEK I LOST OUNCES MAYBE 6. THEN TODAY I FINALLY MADE IT OUT OF THE 250'S AND WAS 248.2. PRAISE THE LORD!!! IT'S DEFINITELY A ROLLER COASTER RIDE. NOW THIS IS WHAT MY DOCTOR SAID: I HAD A LAPBAND IN 2008 THAT DIDN'T WORK - HE SAID MOST REVISIONS ARE SLOWER (I WAS HOPING MINE WOULDN'T BE LOL). SAID EVERYBODY'S DIFFERENT SO DON'T COMPARE (YEA RIGHT LOL), DON'T GET ON THE scale MORE THAN ONCE A WEEK BECAUSE YOU GO UP & DOWN. NOW I KNOW THAT IN MY MIND BUT THE REST OF ME IS SAYING (YEA RIGHT - AGAIN HOW ON LESS THAT 1000 CALORIES A DAY - WHICH CAUSES ME TO GET ON THE SCALE AT LEAST 2X A WK). THEN I THINK ABOUT SOMETHING AN OVER 100 POUND LOSER BYPASS LADY ON HERE SAID. I ASKED HER WHAT WAS THE SECRET. SHE SAID JUST KEEP WORKING THE PROGRAM DON'T BE OVERLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SCALE. IT'S GOT TO MOVE IF YOU KEEP WORKING THE PROGRAM. SHE HADN'T LOST MORE THAN 2 MAYBE 3 POUNDS A WEEK, BUT 2 X 52 = 104 IN 1 YEAR. I TELL YOU I LOVE THIS BARIATRIC PAL SITE AND ALL THE PEOPLE. IT & THEY ARE SO HELPFUL. SORRY IF IT SEEMS I'M RAMBLING, BUT IT CAN GET VERY FRUSTRATING AT TIMES, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE DOING YOU PART. I'M 62 YEARS OLD & USUALLY OLDER PEOPLE CAN LOSE A LITTLE SLOWER. I'M JUST BEGINNING TO WORK OUT AGAIN NOW. I'M SURE THAT WILL HELP. SO MY SISTER, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND KEEP SMILING BECAUSE GUESS WHAT EVEN AT THE PACE YOU'RE GOING IN ONE YEAR; YOU'LL BE POSTING A 100 POUND LOST. 25 POUNDS IN 3 MONTHS. 3 MONTHS TIMES 4 EQUALS A YEAR. YOU GO YOU SOON TO BE 100 POUND LOSER. YOU GO GIRL!! HAY I JUST NOTICED; YOU ONLY WANTED TO LOSE 90 HAHAHA!! DENISE
  5. I am very sorry to hear you are having issues. I've been there. I was banded in Oct 2012, had revision from a slip after getting very sick with a stomach bug June 2013... did ok for a few months then my band failed and I had it removed Nov 2013. I had Gastic Sleeve just this past Monday (the 16th) and I feel great. I did have to spend 1 night in the hospital which I didn't with the band but I was thankful for the constant pain meds and nausea meds in my iv and attention I got. I came home about 3:30 on Tuesday and only had nausea that night. Haven't had to take pain or nausea meds since Tuesday night. Stomach sore like with the band just getting from sitting to standing position. Taking that 1st shower was heaven and I felt so much better too. Just been sipping on Clear liquids and Protein drinks every 30 mins or so. I can tell that I can't hold much for sure and yesterday I got to see my new itty-bitty banana shaped stomach! My doctor does a Barium Swallow to check for leaks and reflux on day 3 so it was neat to see that after 5 sips my stomach was full... I had to wait a few hours to add Water to that since the barium was so thick. Good luck in your decision but I can say, I'm not regretful for sleeving at all!!!

    With in 3 months

Did y'all have to lose a certain amount of weight prior to seeing the surgeon? I am trying to get approved for a revision from band to bypass but have to lose 15 lbs first. Any tips?
  7. Thank you all for your responses. My surgeon wants me to hold off and see how things settle for right now, but says we can get the process started for insurance purposes. She wants me to try to stick it out I guess...but with all the issues I'm having, granted they aren't life threatening, but they are very discouraging non the less. I cried the whole way home after being unfilled for the 2nd time in a year. Though I did nothing wrong to make it slip, I still can't help but feel like a failure. I was hoping she would be more on board with having a revision like she sounded when I talked to her the day before. What a roller coaster! @ I hope your surgery goes well for you, and yes, please keep me posted! My surgeon says she has done more band to bypass vs band to sleeve...
  8. Hey there. Good luck with your surgery. Im so nervous also buy anxious as heck! Anyway, i have a lapband currently and want to revise to gastric just waiting on insurance approval. And im also hoping that it can be done all at once. I would hate to wait so long to have the revison. Anyway, why did you have to wait so long? Was it a stipulation of insurance or just doctors orders? Anyway, good luck hun. This site has been really helpful to me so far. Hope you are finding to useful also.
  9. So I received a "get well" present from an old co- worker while I'm home recovering from revision surgery from band to sleeve. It was a box of chocolates!! I figured you all would get a laugh out of this one. Oh - she did know about the revision surgery also
  10. My Doc said the same thing. In fact she said she almost cringes when some opt for the band because she has done so many revisions.
  11. I have had a band for 2 years and lost weight as expected. Unfortunately for me.. I had a prolapse. I got the flu so bad and was throwing up so hard my band prolapsed. I am opting for the sleeve and will have it on 2-24-15. The only reason I'm not doing full bypass is that my husbands first wife died after her surgery. ( before anyone jumps on a band wagon, let me say her death could have been prevented. She was not going for her Vitamin B shots. This caused here to have a deficiency, which in turn lead to a massive heart attack) she had reached her goal and my guess is that she thought she was doing okay.. Just goes to show how important follow up visits are. Anyway, needless to say my husband is scared to death for me to have surgery.. However, I'm scared not to as obesity is a killer within itself. Good luck to you and I will share my revision experience when I can. ????
  12. I was banded in May-2013.. I lost 45 lbs and my bad prolapsed. I talked to my Dr about having the sleeve and she was all for it. From the time we decided to do it until my surgery will be 1 month. Three weeks was getting the insurance to reply. My surgery will be 2-24-15. I hope all goes well and will let you know how the revision goes. ????
  13. I'm currently in the process of jumping through all the hoops to get revised from band to bypass. I was dead set on getting the sleeve until I saw that many people needed to be revised from the sleeve to bypass because of GERD issues. My GERD issues were so awful with the band, I would wake up with acid choking me and coming out of my nose. So I'm not taking any chances this time.
  14. I had my band for almost 10 years when I revised to bypass September 15, 2014. I was away from work for 1.5 weeks and worked half days for a couple of days. I don't remember much about my recovery from the band, but this was not bad at all. I was sore, sure, but I also have a pretty sedentary job. I, too, never had GERD until the band. I decided to go with the bypass because it is tried and true. I went with "latest and greatest" with the band and know how that turned out. I also didn't want to risk GERD. I think once you have had it, you continue to be at risk for it. I love the bypass so far! Best of luck to you!

    January Sleevers ❄️

Hello January Sleevers! Can you believe that all of us have been "together" in this journey for 3-7 weeks. Still just newbies really. This blog is such a support for me. In general I'm very happy with how I am doing at 5 weeks. (I was a band to sleeve revision) No regrets but I am learning every day that life will be very different now, especially how, what, and when I eat. I am still struggling with what I can eat and how much. I still vomit if I eat too fast or too much. (And too much is over 1/2 cup of food. And too fast is about 1000 times slower than I ate pre-sleeve.) It's hard to get in 800 calories a day. Water still tastes weird and the only liquid I can get in is watered-down no sugar Fruit drinks. When I see all of you taking long walks, hikes etc I do get a little envious. I can walk about 1/2 mile before I get kind of tired. I am older (63) and have an arthritic hip from carrying this excess weight so long. Weight loss will make it easier but as my Doc said, WLS isn't going to heal that worn down hip. I can certainly do more than before the surgery and weigh loss but I am not running any marathons just yet. (I am so happy when I see some of you in your younger years losing this weight before you ruin a hip) Today I have to share that I am missing the feeling of over-eating and the haze/daze it gave me. The brief emotional feeling of fullness and satisfaction of some binge food. Of course I am overjoyed that now I can be outside more, be more active, feel better, look better, etc. I am still learning to accept this activities as my new satisfied full feeling. However, I've used food as an emotional support for so long, I am feeling some loss that I can no longer eat to get that feeling from eating. It's great that now I eat to stay alive. But still, if I'm honest, at least today, I miss that old eating experience. (I know it was always followed by the self-hate, but there was a few moments of feeling pretty darn good.) Hummmm, is the honeymoon over for me? I had a lap-band so I am well aware of the initial high of losing weight and feeling so great. I know it feels like it will last forever. I'm a little leary of that high because at some point we will all be past the easy weigh loss (and even now some are struggling) and we'll have to work a little harder and be more aware of the downs and find the inner emotional means and external support to get thru them. I know this loss I'm feeling today will pass, and I'm not looking for advice just sharing where I am. Maybe someone else might the same. Rather than having this feeling of loss and emotional changes trip me up now or later in my weight loss, I think I may look for a councilor that knows about this stuff. All the best to you all. baj

    DISGUSTED WITH FOOD

I am a revised lap-bander and I did extremely well with the it until I started having issues with the band itself. I was sleeved 2 weeks ago & I've already planned, when I am able to eat out, I will order my food & a to-go container at the same time. I will leave an appropriate amount of food on my plate and put the rest in the to-go box. This way I won't be tempted to overeat. I realize that sometimes just one bite can throw you over the edge, but that's usually due to not chewing enough. Good luck to you on the journey!!!
  17. Hello :-) I just found out that my band has slipped and I have been having issues with it for the past year. I've just passed my two year mark of being banded and everything went well the first year. Then it all changed. Multiple ER visits for gastroenteritis, being stuck so bad afterwards do the the swelling I couldn't even swallow my own saliva...so after this last issue and not losing weight for a while now, I think I'm going to get a revision. I have different insurance then when I was banded, and my BMI is still high, so my surgeon (still the same one who banded me) said I have a pretty good chance of being approved. She said it will take 6 months of jumping through hoops like I did before (I only had to do 3 months before though) so I have time to think about which revision I want to do. She also said she wants to get a scope down me no matter if I want revision or not just so she can see better on what is going on with my band/stomach/esophagus. Then she might be able to guide me in a better direction as far as revision. I'm leaning towards GB. I don't have GERD or reflux (until my band slipped that is) so the sleeve could be an option. I have done a lot of research into both, but I was really wondering how long is the recovery phase? It took me 3 weeks to go back to work with the band, but that was mostly due to the shoulder pain from my band pressing on the vagus nerve (a pain which I STILL get all the time). I know it's a longer hospital stay, but I'm curious. I sit at my desk all day at the hospital, so its very sedentary, but I do a lot of walking/stairs. Thanks for any advice!!

Pain in my left side when I breathe

I am not sure what the prognosis of this was, but I started having pain in my left rib cage after I ate, or took a deep breath or laid on my right side. I also had pain in my left shoulder blade area (which is from the band/banding rubbing against the vagus nerve, and I have gotten off and on since being banded 2 years ago, but more so now with the rib pain). After dealing with it for a few days I call my bariatric surgeon's office and told them what was going on. They immediately got me in for a barium swallow eval and some x-rays. My surgeon called me later that day and told me my band has slipped. Back in May 2014, I had bad gastroenteritis which sent me to the hospital because I couldn't throw up, yet I was wrenching and super nauseated. Two weeks later I got stuck...and I couldn't get it out. After hours of trying and not being able to swallow my own saliva, I went to the ER for an emergency un-fill by my surgeon. Since then, I have take my fills very slowly. The last one was in August 2014, and I am not in the green zone for fear of getting stuck again, so I honestly don't know what, how or when my band slipped. Since yesterday I have developed severe reflux and nausea. I go in today to get un-filled yet again and let my band settle hopefully. I also asked about getting a revision to either the sleeve or bypass since having this band has caused me a lot of pain and multiple ER visits and once it slips, it has a high chance of it happening again, so if I'm going to need surgery to fix it, I may as well try something that will work better...I hope you all figured out what the problems were and got them fixed. Best of luck!
  19. UPDATE: I cancelled my CT Scan and going to see a new doctor this Friday.... I still think it's too early to talk bout revision surgery and doing a cat scan. I feel great, i have no acid reflux and everything is going down just great! can eat a cow! I feel like im healing just fine. It's been 22 days since unfill also sooo hopefully on Friday the xray will show some improvement on my band and i can stop thinking about this possible slip! Although, I did gain alot of weight but that's my fault! please pray pray pray!

Hi I had my unexpected bypass on the 13/02. I am a lapband revision and originally wanted the sleeve, finally persuaded by my doctor to have bypass just before surgery because of scar tissue concerns and that he didn't want me to have an irreversible procedure. I'm still getting my head around the fact that I have had bypass! Hoping not to be a slow loser because I'm a revision as I am getting married in September. Cannot wait to start feeling healthy again and so happy not to have my band anymore! Good luck everyone x
  22. I have only told ppl that I am getting my band removed. I haven't mentioned getting the revision to sleeve. Are any of you on fb? Definitely should find a way to stay connected. I start liquids next Tuesday! This Saturday I have a nutrition class, see my doc on Monday for prep, 2nd nutrition class on Wednesday then I am good to go. It is becoming so surreal. A friend of mine had it done right at a month ago and has already lost 20lbs. But I told her she didn't need the surgery to begin with!! I was thinking of trying the unjury as well.
  23. @@deedadumble and @CowgirlJane Thank-you ladies! Today was the first I had ever heard about the procedure. I had myself all mentally ready for just the lower body lift and thigh revision, so now that we've added in the augmentation I'm all stressed out about the procedure again, lol. During my first plastics, I added in the abdominoplasty, which I was SO glad I did and during my second set of procedures, I added the arm lift, which again I was super glad I went for. I'm hoping the augment goes along the same route, although this is the first time in my life I've ever debated getting a bigger, or at least rounder, butt, lol.

    Nights in hospital

My doctor told me to plan on 2 nights because mine was revision surgery but I went home the next day because I felt fine
  25. So everyone, I posted a few weeks ago about the posterior body lift and most of you said you were very happy with your results. Today was my last consult before my surgery (posterior body lift and revision on thigh lift) and I told my doctor I was concerned about having a flat butt. I am very white girl no butt shaped and while it didn't bother me before, once all of the skin is removed and lifted, my backside will look like a flat board. So, my doctor isn't a fan of implants, so first we discussed taking some fat from lipo and placing it into the buttox, which much to my delight he pinched me in a few places and said I don't have anywhere near enough fat for that procedure (YAY!, lol). So, the other option is auto augmentation, more specifically it's called autologous gluteal augmentation, where essentially they put part of what they would have removed into the upper pole of your butt, so that you end up with a rounder bum and avoid the totally flat problem I would have had. The thing is..I don't see a lot of people who have had this procedure done and there isn't a ton of information online about it. My question is...did anyone have the auto augmentation done on their butt and if so, do you like your results? Thank-you!
