    NSV for me

On Thursday Sept 22, Dalton's Lapband Support Group is doing our 1st annual fashion show. They chose 35 people out of our group to be in the show and I was one of them. I will post pictures to let everyone see.

    Do you feel more attractive?

@Kay07 You should feel good about yourself. Eating healthy, 5K and rocking high heels. (1) So yeah I am working on that. Did any of you struggle with reevaluating your relationship with yourself? Do you view yourself as a project in the works? This transformation is more than physical. I used my time at the gym or walking to process the mental side of WLS. I had to let go of all the negative messages from others and myself about my weight. I had to process how differently people are simply because of weight loss. I found that I was an adrenaline junkie love a challenge. I am also the same core person with the same values. Interesting that many of us share the experience of not knowing how to take compliments. I was used to being invisible to the opposite sex. It's a bit unnerving when suddenly they are showing attraction. It takes time to get used to. Its ok to feel awkward my compliment scale appropriate - Say thank you and move on. hilarious - They'll make great NSV. Please share them inappropriate /creepy - Depending on the situation I confront them. Know that it's ok to feel good about the way you look and feel. Have fun and experiment with clothing you want to wear. Find your own style. Life is short. Rock your bad@ss self. We are all a work in progress. Never stop. Keep growing and changing in life. (2) For those of you who hit goal or are maintaining, did you decide that because you felt like you hit it, or because you hit the number you set? How long did it take you to feel comfortable in your new skin? I pulled my goal weight of 140 out of thin air. I worked my program to get to reach it and beyond. Nothing magic, it was the work put in. First year after goal. I hid from mirrors and cameras for years. I had to work on seeing myself smaller. I would still move around people as if I was larger and didnt want my hip to bump into them.*laughing* Just a bunch of small things like that. After the first year my mind caught up with the weight loss.
  4. When my step father passed away in 1996, I inherited his 1994 Grand-Am. I drove it for several years and then bought a minivan right before my surgery. I gave the car to my son. When I drove the car I always had the seat all the way back because I have long legs. At least that's what I thought. Yesterday I got in the car to move it in the driveway and couldn't reach the gas peddle! I had to move the seat up 2 notches. It finally occurred to me that it wasn't because of my legs, it was because my butt was so big I was sitting closer to the wheel! LOL, who knew?!!

    Most Remarkable Changes?

I am beginning to stand up for myself. For so long whenever something was wrong I just let it go and grumbled about it to dh later. The other day a teacher talked really nastily to my son and I made it a point to tell her that I thought it was inappropriate. When another person grew a little too big for their britches talking to me like I wasn't good enough, I set them directly in their place. The new self confidence and the feeling that I AM worth it is amazing. I think that's the best NSV and most remarkable change. Who knew that I would start to feel worthy by losing some weight. Amazing.

    Nsv - Incomplete :(

Just being able to enter and ride for 2 days is a major NSV. Don't play that down. Sorry about your accident, but confident you will get them next year! Congratulations on your weight loss.
  8. I was rushing through the airport last night because I found out I wasn't going to get home and had to book a hotel on the other end when I encountered the longest ID review possible. The dude then asked for a second ID which fortunately I had, then he grilled me about my ID information.... Then after calling a supervisor he approves it, leaving me about 3 seconds to book the hotel and he says...ma'am, this ID is really inaccurate and the picture barely resembles you you need to update it before your next flight. I've only lost 45lbs but my face does look a lot different. I hadn't looked at my DL lately Guess I have to go back and get a new one LOL I was kind of laughing as I rushed to the plane Which was then held late of course, so all that rushing for nothing...but a nice NSV heh heh
  9. Hello fellow sleevers, I am now just over 6 weeks post TT and uplift and I can't tell you how happy I am that I have turned the corner. I ain't gonna lie, it has been a tough 6 weeks, not physically but mentally and emotionally but that is for another post... Anyhoo, today is the first day that I have been able to wear my post op jeans (my original size goal; UK 14) - before now the swelling was sooo bad, even with compression garments and control pants on that they wouldn't do up and were tight on the legs... booo! I wore them today and they were big... yes big! So, as we were shopping I picked up a new pair, one size smaller as an incentive and a 'work in progress' pair. I couldn't wait to try them on and when I did... drum roll please... they only bloody fit! Yes, I could do them up, all the way and I could sit in them. Ok, so they were a little tight but not too tight that I felt like I was about to turn blue and pass out...lol. As a foot note, I am the same weight now as I was pre TT even though the surgeon removed nearly 3 1/2 lb of skin (that is one mighty apron, apparently the 'normal' or average amount of skin removed weighs around a pound!) So, perhaps when all the swelling has gone away they will be my new 'comfy' jeans! I have not been able to fit in a size UK 12 (US 8-10?) for over twenty years... I can't put in to words how happy, proud and well, chuffed to Beans I am! Did I say I was happy? lol Oh, when I saw my PS he cleared me for light exercise and light ab work... so today i did 100 squats - easy peasy - 20 push ups of the table x 2 and 20 pelvic curls with 20 upper curls... so, that is another NSV!! I think that I might be getting my mo jo back...lol!
  10. Coops, my friend, congrats!! You have been altogether too hard on yourself for not reaching a particular scale weight. This is a huge NSV and I hope you're enjoying it! It's not all about the scale and you know that. Three years, no regain and getting fitter every day is nothing to shrug off. So happy for you! ~Cheri

    Nsv!!

Most of us had some weight lost before surgery. I had to do the 6 month diet (lost 10lbs) plus the pre-op liquid diet (lost 25 on that--I find I do boring really well, and that is about where I would file the choices on the liquid diet). The rest has come off since surgery. I have reached my goal weight and now I fluctuate from 147 to 150-151. I sure can't complain. My latest NSV came the other night when I was taking clothes out of the dryer. I held up a pair of size 10 pants and thought, "Wow, my butt actually fits in these!" I was wearing women's 22 (2x in scrubs, which I wear for work). In scrubs I now wear size small in pants and medium tops. Not a bad way to go. I am a bit broke from buying clothes but it is a good broke, let me tell ya!
  14. I am going to Montreal Thursday for a concert and need some clothes that fit so I headed to goodwill. :-) I fit a 38 pants!!' that's down from a 48, 7 weeks ago and from a 54 at my highest. And there's more I am wearing a plain ol xl shirt! Down from 3 xl's an a few 4xl's. Woot!
  15. So it may be stupid to post this but after I was working out today and getting ready to go to the sauna in the locker room....I wrapped the LITTLE white towel that the Y provides to members and it covered me and tucked in. Back in the fat days, it was one on top barely and the other on the bottom not covering my tush and me rushing to my locker to hide and change quickly. I strolled today......with a little smooth in my step. Thought I'd share what 18 months has done for me. Maintaining my 105lbs off...normal BMI, would like to lose 5-10 more but the dr is satisfied if I am. 260 then, 155 now. Weirdly wonderful! The band does work and to all you naysayers.... but I do understand the struggle but with persistance and perseverance and getting rid of yours and others around you defeatist attitudes....it can work. I promise.

    I f*****g love protein shakes!

I don't like most premade Protein shakes but I do love my Shakeology vanilla with a little fruit in it. Now I might have to try a little pumpkin since someone mentioned it. I like the Shakeology because it has so many other nutrients besides just Protein so I feel like I've covered my bases on my first meal of the day. I do still take my recommended Vitamins as well. Long Division-Let's just say I stopped understanding math when the alphabet decided to get involved. 49ers- It just not as fun making fun of them without Harbaugh. Go Hawks NSV-I sold all my XL Seahawks Jerseys and bought new one's in size Small. ~LA

    1St Week Post-Op

I was such a scardy cat, I didn't start taking big drinks of fluid until I read on this site that other people were having no difficulties with it. Low and behold, I didn't have any pain. Thank God I can finally get enough fluids in.... This is a NSV!
  21. I had two victories this week. Yesterday I wore a pair of jeans that did not have an elastic waist. Today, I got out my fanny pack that I had not used for two weeks, and had to shorten the belt 2" to keep it from falling off my hips.

    Yep

Slowly but surely this band is actually doing its thing!!! I am still totally amazed at how full I get in just a few bites...I have learned over the last couple days that when I start to feel uncomfortable when I eat and feel like something is trying to get stuck to take a huge deep breath and hold it as long as possible and it really does help me...I have been doing my 30 minute workouts everyday except for today when I only got 20 cuz my son had a major life threatening problem with his playstation 2 that I just had to address right then, but thats ok!! It makes me so happy to step on that scale each morning now and see a little difference...I have been adding it up and if I keep going at this rate I should have around a 10 lbs loss for this month (I can certainly deal with that)...The only bad thing is that my uniform pants from work are just about to that stage where they are going to fall off me...Everytime I stand up I am yanking on the legs or the waist to make sure they stay up...Good thing is that we put in orders for new uniforms about 3 weeks ago and are just waiting on them to get to us...So from my 4x shirt I ordered a 3x (i still like big comfy shirts) then I went from a mens 50x34 to a 46x34...Of course we didnt have anyone measure us out for our sizes so I just had to guess...I hope that I did the right thing on the sizes or I am just out of luck for a while...Maybe in several more month and several more sizes down I will even be willing to tuck in my uniform shirt...I guess that would be a great NSV for me!!!
  24. I have four more months left of insurance mandated weight loss. I needed to go to Wall-Mart this A.M. to pick up some Torani syrups to flavor the Protein shakes that I'm using as part of my weight loss efforts. While there, of course, the bakery was baking and my appetite raised its ugly head. I wanted EVERYTHING!!! Since I couldn't make up my mind on what to get to eat, I decided to get a hamburger (who am I kidding? I would have gotten fries too) on the way home. When I started the car to leave Wall-Mart, the car radio came on. You need to know this about me. I almost never listen to the radio in the car and if I do (like this morning) I always turn it off when I get out. I can't stand having the radio come blaring on when I start the car. For some reason, I didn't turn it off this time. The song on the radio was a Praise song that I've taken as my personal anthem in my journey through RNY to take my health back. I sat in the car listening to that song and thinking about all the reasons I started this journey. I drove home past all the burger places, got out my bottle of decaf iced tea (that I'm drinking as I write this) and am looking forward to using my new Raspberry Torani syrup in a shake for lunch. I have a feeling it will have the sweet taste of victory!
