    July 2006 Band Crew

Hi all July folk: It's nice to hear your stories, victories and comforting to hear the support for those having down days. I too am having a down time with my DH's caregiver situation. We went through 4 in seven days. I don't think the agency is being up-front with the fact that he needs a lot of assistance due to 2 strokes. The lady who left yesterday (in her Ghanian accent) said "they told me I would be sitting for an elderly man (well, he's not THAT old) but they didn't tell me I would have to observe him." Duh. When you take care of disabled people you usually need to keep an eye on them. Anyway....I went back to square one and am going in a different direction than the agency. I am just so depressed today. I have something in place for next week but still feel so overwhelmed by it all. I miss pieces of him so much. His strokes have changed our lives and I try not to get down about it but....well, wish me luck, please. On a happy note I had a nice NSV yesterday. One of our teachers is a "Mr. Muscle" competitor (whatever they are called....body-builder). We are kind chummy (I listened to his divorce saga #1 and #2). I had the opportunity to chat with him yesterday and asked him if he did protein drinks and what does he use. We had a conversation about protein, etc and I finally told him about my band. He said "I KNEW you had lost weight but some women freak if you say anything. You look amazing!". Wow. That was lovely coming from mr. beautiful body. Michelle....the Hooters pic MAY be your best yet. What a perfect Halloween costume. I don't think my principal would approve though....what do you think...lol???? YOU are a hoot. Have a nice weekend all you nice July people. Ruthie

    Slow Losers - Unite!

Wow bonnie you have lost 70 pounds in two months that is amazing. or is that a type O? anyway fabulous darling :clap2: I am going to try a little harder to not worry so much. and yes I have a lot of NSVs and I do record each one. I think I am getting muscle now and that weighs more than fat so I just like the idea of being able to do lots of things I haven't done in a long time. I guess being a turtle don't bother me a bit. I have a cup of ice cream when I want to and if I want a small slice of cake (really a very small is all I can eat. I have good restriction.) then I eat it. I didn't gain this weight in a couple years so I am not going to lose it over night either. Yeah I am a Turtle!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: and I love my band :kiss2: God bless. Frances

    Slow Losers - Unite!

Excellent progress Delia. I rthink that in the long run, it is only you who count. No one else has to or gets to live in your body. I think that if you have lost enough inches to be in a size 14 loose, then WOOT! Congrats Debbie06, you are a Rabbit, not a Turtle! I understand yur concern about being too filled and not feel properly restricted. One thing to keep in mind that it isn't about restriction; it is about losing weight. At 76 pounds gone in 5 months that's pretty spectaucular. I know that a lot of bansters feel that they should be so restriced that they should only be able to measure their meals by tablespoons as opposed to cups. (or half cups, you know where I"m going. ) I know that sometimes we get a whapred sense of what a true portion size is. Partly because many of us used to eat the portions that restaurants serve (sometimes as many as 4 serings in one meal! ) and think that is normal, then switch to a bandster tinsy serving, and think that's a normal serving. Please try to not worry so much Debbie, ok? Those are some great NSVs Fedixon! I'm going to tell you the same thing I tell everyone else, track those NSVs! I think everyone needs to track their NSVs, but I think it is even more important for Turtles to track.

    More NSV's

I found a black dress yesterday. Whew! I was able to buy it a size smaller. It's a bit more fashionable too, with its little flare at the bottom. This morning, of course, I put the dress on. I selected a blouse to go over the dress. I put it on and walked to the mirror. The shirt was too big, it looked ridiculous. So, I walked back to the closet and got a second shirt (same size) and looked in the mirror again. The second shirt looked just as bad. LOL. My husband is waiting on me at this point because we carpool. I walked to the closet and got a third shirt, this time a size smaller. It looked great. So, that was my first official "clothes too big" moment. w00t! He He, when I walked out of the bedroom, my husband gave me that "look" that I took too long. I laughed and said I had to try on 3 shirts to find one that wasn't too big. He smiled and said "thats great reason to take so long".

    NSV's for she...

Goes to show how some of the local restaurants don't plan for bigger folks to eat at their places. Seriously, I'm sure you've all noticed...some of those booths barely fit a person with a normal BMI! Don't know what their thinking sometimes. It sure is nice to be able to sit and enjoy ourselves instead of constanting having to adjust so a breath can be taken when sitting in those. Congratulations to your wife on that NSV and to everyone else who has the same or is working towards. Have a great day!
  6. Drews...You are a hottie!! Janey, I will make sure my DW gets your chicken recipe. That sounds really yummy. Chicken is my favorite, regardless if I have a band or not. marz88, WTG on your NSV and your weight loss. It is really great to hear about your progress. missnikki, It's great to hear from you. Hope you post more often. LindaV, WHAT? You lost? You are just amazing!! Congratulations and tell you DH to take you out more often. Love the Turkey Take Off Challenge. I'm in. Need to think about the amount of weight. May go with 15 lbs instead of 20. Will think about it and let you all know for the commitment factor. GOBBLE GOBBLE

    NSV's for she...

That is a tremendous NSV! I remember the first day I realized that I could just slip right into a booth. It was like, "I'm a regular person." Sounds silly, but it really was huge for me. Congrats to your wife!

    Fantastic Brand New NSV

I need to update my nsv's: 1. My shoes no longer fit. They slip up and down when I walk and fall off completely if I lay down in the floor with my students. 2. I can get up and down off the floor in my classroom with my students and not moan and groan while doing so. 3. I sat in a student size desk today and didn't think twice about it.

    My first two NSVs!

Congrats lisah25. My first NSV came yesterday when my boss came over to my desk, asked how much weight I lost. When I told her 9 lbs, she called me a funny name (lovingly) and says she can really tell! Whoo Hoo.

    My first two NSVs!

Yesterday was my first full day back at work, and it was a doozy! I spent the whole day(9 hours total) fighting fires and totally stressed. The upside(Other then the wonderful support and concern from my co-workers) was that I was dreaming about going home, and settling into a comfy chair with the paper and TV remote, instead of dreaming about going out and eating a whole buffet! :biggrin1: The other NSV is a pair of pants I'm wearing today, that I haven't worn since early spring. When they were a little too tight. Today, they are baggy and I'm thinking I'll try putting them in the dryer. If that doesn't work, they are on their way out!

Thank you!! Thank you!! Vinesqueen, you asked for my NSV's. Here they are: 1) I weigh less then my husband which has NEVER happened since we were first married. 2) The person in the mirror now matches up with the person inside. 3) I weigh less then my driver's liscense says I do. 4) I get lots of looks from guys & I've NEVER had that. 5) I am wearing a bathing suit in public! 6) My kids are bragging about me to their friends instead of being emberassed. 7) I run into people who knew me a long time ago & they have no clue who I am!! 8) I looking younger then my younger sisters. 9) I can wear my seat belt in the car comfortably! 10) I don't mind taking pictures anymore. THE BAND WORKS!!!!! :biggrin1: :scared: :biggrin1: :scared: :biggrin1:

    July 2006 Band Crew

Hi Guys, Everone seems to be having a tough time at the moment and yet theres still lots of positive weight losses going on....well done to all!! I don't know if Ive lost anything this week as i've had sciatica in my back and have had tos tay away from the gym for a week and thats where i get weighed. I'm going to try and go tuesday so will hopefully have lost then!! I've also had a tough week this week, a relative has passed away and this has raised old hurts and wounds within the family and i am really stressing about it. Also, although I knew it was coming i'm being made redundant at work on 22nd September, so need to find a new job, although i'l still be working as a consultant from home until the end of October. My mother has a broken shoulder and my dad had an op for carpal tunnel last week so they are both incapacitated at the moment and are relying on me to help a lot.. and at this moment in time I feel sooooo tired and I know thats how I usually feel when things become too much for me to cope with.. But I'l be ok, once I get this coming week out of the way. On a positive note - i had 2 NSV's this last week. the first one was on wednesday i was standing making a cup of tea at work with my back to the room and one of the girls asked me when I was going to get some trousers that fit!! because the ones I have been wearing for work are dropping off me, I don't need to loosen them to pull them up or down!! The 2nd one was on friday i tried on some denim cutoffs that I had in the wardrobe and they fit perfectly and when i checked they were 2 sizes smaller!! I was jumping for joy!! and it was nice to wear something that fits rather than hangs!! i didn't realise loosing weight would cause me to moan about not having anything to fit!! but it's a good feeling...

    Sunta NSV's

Congrats Sunta! It's so important to keep track of your NSVs because they tell the real story of your journey! I"m sure it's all very nice to be able to say "I've lost 50 pounds" but your NSV list shows what it really means to have lost that weight. Congrats and well done!

    Day 9

I noticed that I am walking faster today, almost back to normal pace. Soon, LOL, I will be able to keep up with my husband again. I had an interesting NSV today that I think has nothing to do with weight loss, so to speak, and everything to do with my "new found" positive feelings about myself. For the past two years I haven't really had a good positive image of myself. I lost my long straight blonde hair to chemotherapy. I was over weight even then, but I had my pretty hair to help me keep a positive image about myself. With that gone, it has been hard. Not to mention that my hair came back extremely curly! Everyone tells me how much they love my curly hair, but I just absolutely hate it, and I really mean ~~~loathe it! I guess this not so good feeling about myself has put me into the mousy quite type category, which I have never been in until this year. Well obviously looking at my numbers, I haven't lost much weight. I have been taking pictures and I can see slight differences because I myself know where I feel lighter so I can see those changes in the pictures. However, my husband really can't see any visible changes. So, I know this isn't happening because I showed up to work looking "thinner". Well here goes my NSV.... There is a very handsome man that sits just a few cubicles down from me. I have been walking past him since January, ever since I returned to work after my chemotherapy. He has not once ever turned his head, acknowledged my existance, looked up from his computer screen at me or anything of the sort. I even had to discuss something work related with him and he talked to me while he looked at his computer screen. So, I have walked by his desk countless times and never a reaction. These last few days, I have been talking about this "natural high" that I am feeling. Well, my natural high must be radiating, because everytime I pass this guy now, he glances up. He even said "good morning" to me in the kitchen. Interesting perspective into how positive or negative feelings about yourself can change a situation. Morning Scale: 212 (up +1) Food today: cup of coffee black w/ 1 equal Breakfast - ham and swiss cheese, about 3oz total Lunch - 3oz of Red Snapper and 4 pieces of yukka protein snack - Dinner - 1/3 of a La Madeleine chicken, broccoli tomato crepe.
