  1. So I had my surgery on 6/29, after being a Lap Band patient from 9 years ago. I have lost so far 21lbs. I find myself on the scale everyday, just to be sure that I am not going in the wrong direction, which I probably need to stop doing. I just came back to work this past Monday, and it seems that I am moving round more but I haven't lost a pound. Again, being that I have been down this road, I want to be sure that we have as many WINS as we can. I just want to be sure that I am doing okay ya'll. I go for my 4 week follow up with my doctor tomorrow. Ya'll know I am over the shakes, but I still drink at least one every morning, and try to get the rest of my Protein through my food, and if anyone knows of another one that's a little easier to deal with or other ways to get my protein in besides Celebrate? I've heard about gummies and other stuff , but I just want a little more input. Of course I get full quickly, so I stopped adding almond milk to my shakes because it makes it to much. I am literally trying to get in the 4 oz. per hour. So now I'm just mixing it with Water, which isn't too bad. Any suggestions of anything more that I can or should be doing? I'm watching how my body reacts to anything that I eat, which is a job in itself. Some of ya'll have had great successes, and I want to be successful too!! I am open and very receptive!!

    What's in your home gym?

I've got a really good treadmill, and a 30kg adjustable barbell set, assorted dumbells between 1 and 5kg, a set of boxing mitts and focus pads, resitance bands (never use them, too easy), an ab roller, a yoga mat. We only have a small house, it takes up half our family room in what was once our casual eating area. I use these things to do a circuit 3 x a week, Doug and I often do it together. On the other days I prefer to leave the house and run outside, but sometimes I just run or walk on the treadmill. We do need a better weights set up, at the very least a bench but we have nowhere to put it, we just cant fit it in in this house, and we wont be moving for another year or two.

You are in a stall, and so am I at 5.5 months out. But, by now we recognize one when we see one and also know it will not last. So, don't get down on yourself and do not give up! Just keep working your regimen and you know you will succeed. Maybe not as quickly as you would like, but goal is the at the end of this journey, and we are all here to help you get there! Ducker.

    Pre-op questions for the surgeon

Okay, you have me at "size of a straw". Do I understand that after surgery my stomach, the whole way down will be the size of a straw? Okay, so how in the heck will 3-7 ounces ever fit into that? WOW....I did not know that about the bougie stuff. I knew he had mentioned the word but it didn't cause me to pause and ask. Thanks.

    Favorite Protein Bars

I love Detour bars, they taste like Snickers. They have some new flavors but the A bit higher in sugar, but they are really good. I have been eating these since I was banded 8 years ago. http://www.detourbar.com/products/original-whey-protein-bars/caramel-peanut.html They are good to keep in the car, I buy the smaller ones for on the go, and the larger ones and cut them into pieces to pop in my mouth around the house. I eat maybe 3 a week, when I'm not getting enough protein from food. I hate the thick shakes, and the isopure makes me gag. I do however love Nectar shakes. The green apple is the best. http://www.bariatricadvantage.com/catalog/categoryHandler?cat=Complementary%20Products%20:%20Protein%20Powders%20:%20Nectar&expand=1
  8. I am wondering how everyone is feeling these last few weeks especially those who had the surgery recently. I am two weeks out and feel fine I am still not up to the protein requirement I should be getting last night I tried to desperately chew up a small piece of salmon and turn it into water before swallowing and it went down like a BRILLO pad! What feels good is broth, jello, water, mostly cold stuff. I don't like the stuffed feeling after cream of wheat, and am eating a lot of mushed up papaya(I figured it would save me $ on papaya enzyme pills). I am doing okay with the multi vitamins BUT cannot stand the other stuff I am supposed to be taking. The C and the B12, I am looking forward to seeing my surgeon next week for my check up as I am curious to "waht's going on!!" on the inside. Anyone start to feel thinner? Lighter? Happier? I'd love to hear where you're at:)

    Exercise

My doctor said 4 weeks as well before going back to lifting weights or anything involving significant twisting through the abdominal area like Pilates or yoga. Swimming was out as well due to my incisions still being pretty fresh. I was quite content with just walking. I found it was great to just go for a walk to help shift the gas pains and to take my mind off eating as the hunger started to return post op

    a little down....

I think you are doing fine. I weigh in the morning then I am putting my scale up! I tend to step on it every day, (NOT GOOD). Everyone is different. You are losing and thats what counts and if you aren't losing your body is adjusting. I am just a week or so a head of you. 15 wks tomorrow. Good Luck! Keep your chin up.

    Peanut Butter

It was on my list, but it had too much sugar in it for me and I spent the rest of the day running to the toilet after adding it (less than a teaspoon!) to my protein shake. It left such a terrible memory that I haven't tried it since as I am at 10 weeks. But, I did have some Almond Butter two days ago on a couple of apple slices and that went down just fine.

    Port/Doctor question

I see my surgeon for my 2 week post op appointment next Monday. He has assured me that he does all the fills himself.
  13. i have not been on in awhile beccause I was suppose to have surgery on March 11 and went to my pre op physical on March 4th but low and behold on the 5th I came down with Bronchitis so surgery was postponed until i got rid of it. Lunch Ideas

Not sure if you have these in the US, but I enjoy having Vita Weat lunch Slices for lunch, especially when at work. http://www2.woolworthsonline.com.au/Content/ProductImages/big/705171.jpg Last week I had one of these with avocado, tuna and tomato. Any other suggestions on what I could top these with?

    Gahhhhh

Any time my weight changes upward on the scale less than 3 pounds I just tell myself "That is just Water weight" and go on. Salt, extra exercise, time of month, sickness, all cause water retention. If you are eating 1000 calories a day it is physically impossible to gain 2.8 pounds of fat in a week, you would have to eat 9800 calories more than you burned, and you only ate 7700 calories so its mathematically impossible. Dismiss it and go on. The good news is when I gain a couple pounds of water weight, when it went away it usually took a couple of pounds with it, kind of a cell flushing thing. I hope it works like that for you too.
  16. Yay!!!!! You are doing awesome. You got it Mellifrits - exercise is essential for a healthy success. After my stall, i recently started a light workout and the weight is going down again - 143 lbs as of this week! I look healthy and am perfectly happy at this weight, but just wanna tone up a bit. I am sooo happy with my gastric plication surgery as well - and wouldn't change a thing! You go girl and thanks for posting your success!
  17. Sorry, got to agree with Notime. Instead of having a meltdown, it's time to pull on the big girl panties, and do it yourself. Ultimately, it's up to us to get what we need! Don't worry about the stall, you'll work yourself through it. Good Luck!

I Swear To God I Could Choke My Husband Right Now!

This is old but I get it, OP. When it comes to food and drink, people want it the way they want it. I've found that if you want something done with specificity, you usually have to do it yourself. As for the stall, who knows? Protein is 4 calories per gram so the extra 48 calories probably isn't hurting you unless you have something else going on we don't know about or unless the 12g comes with additional grams of carbs and/or fat. Either way, I'd just start doing my own.
  19. Hello all - new poster. 11 days post op for my gastric sleeve, spent the first seven days post op on liquids only and have been on a pre-select soft food diet for the past 5 days (oh what fun). Coming up with more and more odd combinations of refried bean, greek yogurt, egg white, sugar free pudding, and cottage cheese. Sad what passes for an "omelet" at the moment. Something odd I noted almost immediately upon arriving home was my sense of smell, particularly with regard to how foods smell, seem particularly altered. Have a household that has always enjoyed cooking and have done so several times for my lady as a thank you for how well she has been nursing me and the aroma of the foods is just nowhere near as full as pre op. Is this common? At least one other full bypass patient at my 1 week check in mentioned a similar change. Is it permanent or something that changes over time? Thanks all - and best of luck to all those on or getting ready for the same journey.

    Hi guys!

I used DR Perez and I really liked him. You might want to read some of my other posts. If you are picky about the hospital, you might not like Clinica Victoria because it is pretty small. But I had no problems and I'm doing fine 3 months later.

    Gahhhhh

SO...last week, I posted that I was down 20lbs since August 1st. I was SOOO excited! I had hit a small goal of mine...and was TOTALLY pumped. I also made it back to the gym for a Zumba class, totally kept up, and felt great afterwards. On Tuesday afternoon, I ended up with a wicked sore throat.....which stayed until Thursday morning....which turned into a chest cold. I've been coughing, coughing, and coughing some more....and definitely feeling generally awful. I didn't go back to the gym....and today was feeling a little bit under the weather, but was going to brave it anyway! The class ended up being cancelled...and I didn't have my ipod, so I didn't want to go on the machine (that is my idea of torture! 30 min on the elipical with nothing to entertain me! ugh!). Anyhow...I hopped on the scale and have somehow gained 2.8lbs this week. NOW...I know I was just banded on the 10th...and these are supposed to be healing weeks...but I'm eating average calorie intake about 1075/day (that was a 6 day average). I'm eating mainly Proteins...I'm getting around 74 grams of Protein daily. I'm not sure why I'm gaining?? Is this normal???? I feel like I'm failing...just like I've done over and over again in the past. Gosh, I was on such a mental high last week....It's SO amazing how I can go from one state to another in a matter of 7 days. I just felt like I was doing everything right! Any ideas??

    Square One Again!

I agre with you Reverie. I am on week 4 post op and I am still really sore around the port area. I was told not to concentrate on the calories and thinking of this as a duet. Think of this new journey as a new lifestyle. It is really hard to change years of bad programing but we can do it. Good luck.

    Long term patients

Hi, I had the sleeve done July 2012 and lost 83 lbs. A year later I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis (like Rheumatoid Arthritis with tendonitis thrown in) and my exercising slowed due to pain. Since then, I have slowly crept up 30 # and maintained, but I want to get back on track and lose what I gained plus another 20 # to reach my goal. I have been on 2 types of chemo for 2 years and am finally starting to feel better and hope to bring my bike to work next week to start riding. I really need to get my food adjusted to lose again and don't know how many calories and grams of protein/fat/carbs I should set as a goal. I'm using My Fitness Pal to track my food. Everything I typically find is for people just having had surgery. I would really appreciate your thoughts for guidelines for 4 years out.
  24. Post op easier because the hunger is not there, just a little, not like before. I am still sick of the Clear liquids and shakes, but could not even think about food, I am day 3 post op. Keep us updated.

4th Fill Did It! Am I too restricted???

Thanks for all of your advice. I called the MD and cancelled my fill apt for tomorrow. I am going to stay at 2.25 cc's for a month and see how my weight goes. Clearly I am in a place that I can only eat 3/4 cup or so of food at a sitting. It's terrific. I feel so ready to start losing weight. So for all you newbies out there...be patient...it took me 2 1/2 months to feel any restriction at all... I went from no restriction to what seems to be perfect for now. Lori
