Full but keep eating till sick

The band is no magic cure but I can honestly say that it has helped me alot- like going from out-of-control and on my way to 300 lbs to at least holding my own and getting some help. And losing 35 pounds too. Do I wish it was perfect and made me a size 10? you bet!

    Not doing good......at all!

    1. How much food should I be eating per meal ( 1 cup, 1/2 cup or what?) and should that be making me feel full? It all depends on your body. If you can lose with 1 cup of food then that is great. In my case, it takes me 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food to really lose more than 1 lb per week. It is very important if you decide to get another fill to eat less to have Protein. In my case, I always start the day off with 30 grams of protein in a shake. That way I can then consume another 30 throughout the day. I eat probably 5 small meals a day. 2. I seem to PB a lot, is that normal? How much is a lot? For me when I am tight it is quite common to PB once daily or every other day. 3. I have a 10 cc band and have had 5 cc's worth of fills and get "stuck" a lot now, should I get more fills and just eat soft foods that won't get stuck? There are 2 types of tightness per my doctor. Tightness to liquids and tightness to solids. If you are tight to liquids that is not a good thing. If you are tight to solids and don't mind eating softer foods and still lose it is a personal decision on whether or not you should stay there. Also, keep in mind that the folks who have lost a ton of weight fast exercise a lot. Are you mobile enough to do a few minutes on the treadmill? 70 lbs is fantastic. Remember the average weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week. Typically the first year you can lose 50-60% of your excess body weight. 10 lbs a month which you are running puts you at 120 lbs your first year. That is reasonable but you must exercise regularly and have good restriction. I have seen one member on these boards lose 200 lbs in 18 months. JulieNYC is her name . You can find her under plastic surgeries has she has had a few. You may want to send her a private message asking her what her secrets are. she is wonderful and I'm sure it would be very helpful. Keep the faith. The band does work. For some of us, it just a slower process. Julie

    New York City

15 mins from NYC in NJ got sleeved March 19 of this year.
  6. And still sore and tired! It is depressing! I keep hoping to turn the corner and feel better. At what point did people feel more normal? Pennie 8/10
  7. I am 10 days post-op. I had some issues with my largest incision. I thought it might be infected. I went to the doctor right away, luckily it was not infected. The stitches fell off or popped off and my large incision is healing open. It looks disgusting. The dr is not too concerned with this. They just told me to keep it clean and covered. Did anyone else have to heal with an open incision?

    Update

I haven't updated this for awhile. I've lost another 8 pounds! Total 16.5 pounds lost! YEAH!!!! :whoo:I thought I'd never get thru 6 monthly visits with the doctor. Three visits down and three to go. The fourth one is 01/03/2008. The Dr's office has all my paperwork in their hands. . My supervised diet is half done! I don't feel that I have been as successful this month as I was the last two. Oh well, it is what it is. I'm trying very hard to stay within 1200 calories, but some days it is harder than others.:faint: One day at a time.....one day at a time.....It's also the holidays. I know I shouldn't use that as an excuse....I still feel like I've made great accomplishments. I no longer drink pop....wait to drink after my meal....still trying to eat slower and to practice chew, chew, chew. One day all of these things will be second nature. I hope anyways! With the weather changes it makes it harder to walk daily, but I can use On-demand and get the exercise channel to continue working out.
  9. I didn't try raw veggies until about 10 weeks Post Op. I'm about 3 months now and I eat whatever veggie I want cooked or raw. I just chew really good. I cut them up really fine or even use my potato peeler for cucumber, carrots and radishes if I have a small salad. That way it is thin sliced and easy to chew. I haven't had dumping from eating anything but I have had it from drinking right after I ate. I just mindlessly did it as habit and paid for it. Anyways, I think you'll be fine if you chew really good. I just recently added peppers to the mix and those were fine too.

    From: Biggest Loser Secret

this is not true i know one of the contestants personally and what you see is what it is. the weight loss is in a week. the only thing that we do not see in it's fullness is how many hours they spend in the gym. they actually spend 8-10 a day in the gym instead of the few hours we see. that time is broken up all during the day but it that much time. this is why they loss the weight that they loss.
  11. I'm 3 1/2 years post op. I have sever GERD, bile reflux, and esophageal spasms still! I am on Levsin for the spasms and it helps. I am on the strongest PPI they make which they have no generic for. It is called Dexilant. Great medication. I also drink carafate three times a day. This will never go away. The spasms are horrific. Most pain I've ever felt and feels much like a heart attack. Prayers for you to feel better. The GERD causes the spasms. Try sleeping elevated and don't eat anything 3 hours before bed. Prayers for you. Mine started 10 months after surgery. I also had my gall bladder removed as they thought that was the problem. It was bad but the spasms continue. Blessings.
  12. The day I've been waiting for, I finally broke the 200 lb mark this morning. I'm so thrilled. I've lost a little slower than some but as long as that scale keeps going the right direction, I'm ok with it. Loving my sleeve today! I started my preop diet on oct 19. Lost 40lbs pre surg. Sleeved 1/9. Today I'm down 69lbs total.

    Psych Evaluation

Well my appointment with the Psychiatrist went well. I spent most of my time answering a 370 questionnaire and listening to the Dr speak to a group of 10. After that we each had a one on one visit that lasted about 30 minutes. I also meet with the dietician and say the surgeon assistant to go over my labs. Next month will be my last weigh in and the last step is my sleep study. I did gain 3lbs. so hopefully that want cause any issues with the insurance approval. My goal is to loose 10lbs by my next visit and hopefully I will be approved for May.

    A New Life

I just wanted to give a shout out to everyone who is trying to lose weight. I would also like for them to think about setting non-scale victories (NSV), such as getting into a new outfit, being able to ride the roller coasters, or getting the confidence to do new things. I think it is good to have an NSV because it gives you something else to focus on other then that damn scale number, which doesn’t always count because sometimes I don’t lose anything but inches. For those of you that are just starting to lose weight, please don’t lose faith because you will reach your goal. Some people lose really fast or non-stop and others only lose a couple of pounds a month. I had a goal in mind and thought I would not be happy until I reached it, but I was wrong. I am finally at a weight that I feel comfortable. My health is good and I feel like I can run a marathon. Don’t get me wrong, I am still overweight and need to lose about 50+ pounds. I was just wrong about how far away that light was at the end of the tunnel, and I hope you will find out that your happiness may come sooner then you think. For the first time in my life, I don’t want to stay home (which sucks with the current gas prices). However, since I never went out before I am not sure what I want to do or where to go, but I am so comfortable that I am finally trying to get out and meet people more, especially since some of my old friends don’t seem to feel comfortable around me now that I have lost weight and they haven’t. My new found confidence has also allowed me to apply for a management job (which I should hear about by the middle of June so keep your fingers crossed). If I don’t get that job, I am also considering just moving to a new city (probably Atlanta) and making a fresh start. I guess sometimes you just have to take risks, the first of which for me was having surgery. It is the first day of June and my goal for this month is to lose 10 lbs. I am not sure if I will reach that goal, but it is worth trying and I think it is possible. I think it helps to set small goals and try for them rather then focus on the final goal. It helps that I have pretty much maintained my weight over the past couple of weeks and my body seems like it is ready to begin moving forward again. I think the more weight I lose the more confident and free I will feel to do just about anything. I would love to go white water rafting one day, yeah I know I am crazy, but aren’t we all just a little. I’ll keep ya posted on my progress. ~Think Positive and Stay Healthy~

    When to exercise?

Alexandra, I can relate - my 30-lb. almost-14-month-old was none too happy that Mama couldn't pick him up! He's better now, but I think he'll be glad when my doc gives me the OK to lift! Exercise-wise - I'm just going very slowly. I started out at about a week post-op with just a couple of minutes on the treadmill, going very slowly. I'm up to 10 minutes on the treadmill, going about 2 miles an hour. I increase a little every day, but I saw no reason to start out going like gangbusters. Time enough to work up to that, and I know it will get easier as the weight begins to come off!

    I am on the road

You might even speed up that 10 pounds by trying a bit of the pre-op diet I was on. 2 protein shakes per day (make sure they contain whey protein) and 2 lean meals that consisted of 3 oz lean protein (about the size of a deck of cards) and a steamed vegetable. I lost 17 pounds in 2 weeks, so even if you added a little carbs to those 2 meals you'd probably lose 10 pounds quick. I know you want to get that surgery date set. I was a giggle-box that day. I knew my surgery was 2 weeks away and I was so excited. No matter how you do it, or how long it takes, remember that every pound lost is not just a pound lost but a pound you DIDN'T GAIN...and step on the road to better health. I wasn't nervous about the surgery, just carried the excitement with me and believed I would be back on my feet in a couple of days. GOOD LUCK
  17. Does anybody know where we can get recipes for a pureed menu? I have been searching the NET but haven't found a lot out there. Based on my drs. guidelines...I will be on liquid for 10 days then moved to STAGE II (mushy food). So...I am trying to prepare for that this coming Friday. Headed to grocery store this afternoon if anyone has any suggestions. KBR

    I am so confused!

I have had the lapband for a year now. I still do not understand one thing, and I read the post-it which was good but still did not hit my exact question. When I eat, I thought the upper pouch that was made by the lapband was supposed to be my "new stomach" and that it could only fit a small amount of food and then I would feel full. If it was tight enough, I would get full there first and then slowly the food would drain down into the old stomach. So I left it really tight for a long time and I could only eat a bite or two at at time and mostly threw up until it became so swollen that I had to have an unfill - gained 16 pounds in 10 days and am now back to a refill. I feel I can eat a lot. I am so confused!! You would think I would get this by now, but I think I had it all wrong all along. I think the post it leads me to believe that by placing the band, I am actually just restricting the size of my original stomach and that I have to have restriction for what? To prevent too much from coming up over it? See - I am clueless. Somebody please clarify to my stupid self. Thanks

Have you been sleeved in Alabama

I am not sure how many sleeves he has done but he is doing more of these I think then bypass and bands now. I was only in the hospital for one day-insurance approved one day. I was at the hospital 5:30 am for surgery and left the next morning by around 10 am. I was off work for one week-I have a sit down customer service job working from home. They have a website http://www.alabamawls.com/ you can check out. If you want to send me a private message you can email me at kelly.stricker@att.net.

My Life At 2 Years Out

Hi - don't worry about how you're doing, tomorrow will be my 2nd anniversary. I've lost a total of 81 lbs, 20 prior to surgery. I reached goal in just under 5 months. I've never felt better in my life. I wear a size 4 jeans! I am 52, I've NEVER worn this size. I totally skipped it when I was a teenager! Seriously! I have never thrown up, although there have been a couple of times I've thought I would, pretty eary out and after eating out. I still weigh and/or measure most of my food most of the time and I keep an on line food log so I can keep track of the calories and my Protein. I weigh twice a day, it's like a game with me. At night I guess what I'll weigh in the morning. I go up and down, some times 3.5 lbs in a week. I eat anything I want, but since I am not really hungry any more, it's easy to make wiser choices and not over do. A piece of cake or a cookie rather than 4 Cookies or two large pieces of cake. I am never hungry like I use to be, for the first year I basically had NO HUNGER. I ate because I knew I needed to, it tasted good and it is what we do socially. I think now I eat like a naturally thin person. I still have good restriction, I needed this, it's forced portion control. I love it and would do it again in a heartbeat! There are things I don't eat, or certainly not often. If there are french fries, I may eat four or five. Not an order and I do NOT mind throwing food away. If it's something I can eat the next day, I'll bring it home, but if not.....I make sure to eat the protein first, the rest, not a big deal. We share a lot when we go out to eat, which costs less and is healthier for my husband as well. I've been maintaining for about eighteen months, to stay between 143 and 147, I need to eat about 1200 calories a day. When I was in the losing stage, early on especially, I was only eating 500 - 650 calories per day. I was healthy and felt good. I was eating 60 - 80 gr of protein a day. Cottage cheese, eggs, tuna, chicken, fish, beef....all high in protein. Fish went down the easiest as far as meat, it still does. I keep a frozen bag of shrimp in the freezer and will steam a few oz for lunch some times. Back then I started and ended every day with a cup of skim milk, protein right there!!! Good luck.....you are on track, every lb you lose is forever! I averaged 10 lbs a month after surgery. I'd go up and down, week to week, but it was steady. Shopping is fun. Life is good!!!

    Leaks

Monique...I am one of those unfortunate people who had a leak...I had my surgery on the 6 of Nov. and on the 12th I was rushed into the hospital because i became septic... The symptoms I had was nausea, irritability, fullness, and the one that put me over top was a temperature of 103... I don't remember much after I went in emerg. but they took it seriously and I could not get comfortable..I was totally out of my head at the time...I laughed got mad demanded a new bed...which they gave me by the way....so sweet!! As they wheeled me to the operating room I talked and asked questions but I remember none of that...After surgery they induced a coma because they said I would never survive the caliber of pain that my body would feel...they intended a coma for 4-5 days but I lasted 19.....

  23. Hi everybody Im due to be banded on july 31st 2007 :clap2:and have been battling with my weight for about 22 years i was slim at one point but never realised it as i was so crap at liking myself and thought if i were thiner people would like me more the fact that i had a low self opinion due to my background never entred my head and that i had ENORMOUSE BOOBS :omg:and although i only had a twenty seven inch waist when i married DH i was told the only way to get rid of the boobies was to DIET! WRONG COS that led to years of yo yo diating and am now 87lbs heavier than when i wed DH. Boobs went with surgery:whoo:. So you may be asking why do i want to know what it feels like to be slim well its because its been such a long time i have forgotten. Going crazy and need advice

There's a direct relationship between mass and BMR. Weight whether fat or muscle burns a comparable amount of calories although I don't think there's solid reliable numbers (the old myth that a pound of muscle burns 30-50 calories a day has been debunked its less) But putting on slabs of muscle just isn't feasible for many people except for the genetically gifted. While they can certainly get stronger and in better shape . Putting on say 10 pounds of muscle is an extraordinary feat for the majority of people. Gaining pounds of muscle is much more difficult than people think

    Uncontrollable binge eating PO

it can happen, yes. You need to get a handle on that ASAP or you're going to end up gaining most or all of your weight back. It's much easier to lose 10 lbs than it is 50. Do you have access to a therapist and/or dietitian? It might not be a bad idea to find some help...
