I kept trying to ask the nurses for help and it would take three tries each time! I would not bring a laptop because it could fall from your bed and break if you fall asleep. I didn't feel like watching movies. I just slept and was on my phone a bit.

After my surgery I only lost my appetite for a few weeks and then my stomach started actually growling at me again! I have “munchie days”, too where I seem to be hungry all the time. I try to tell myself that it’s head hunger and resist grazing in the fridge. When I just have to have something I’ll have a Swanson’s Chicken Sipping Bone Broth. It’s low calorie and pretty high in protein and it does help curb my hunger. Try having more protein when you eat an actual meal. It does seem to help.

I had surgery 7 months ago, as well and I’ve been in a stall for 6 weeks! I get pretty frustrated but have to remember to stick to the plan! I know if I do that then the weight will start to come off again. I’ve lost 80 lbs so far and I have about 35 to go to hit my goal. I can see that tiny light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there! You can do this!!! You’re doing great!💕

Help. What have you done to break stalls early in and slow losing
ShoppGirl replied to ctsaunde2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just got out of a month long stall. It was very unsettling but I just stuck with my plan and it did break. I too am a slow loser. I guess I would’ve preferred to lose it faster but I am 17 pounds from goal (13 from “normal” BMI) and still have no loose skin (possibly due to the slower loss) so try to think of it as a positive. -
I am 7 months out now and just went through a month long stall. It is very unsettling but they do happen and they break eventually. When mine broke I dropped three pounds really fast which somewhat offsets the stall (I am towards the end so 3-5 pounds a month is about all I have been losing). Just stick to the plan and the loss will pick up again.

Fluctuation and sudden weight gain
catwoman7 replied to onmyway11's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I agree with lizonaplane - that's a small enough gain that it could be normal fluctuation or a trend...hard to tell at this point. However, you're at a point post-op where many of us do tend to see a 10-20 lb rebound from our lowest weight. If you want to stay in the low 140s, then set a drop-dead weight ceiling and when you hit that, it's all hands on deck until you get back into your comfort range. But with that slight gain you're seeing now, that could also just be normal fluctuation. Give it another couple weeks and see what happens. -
that seems like a lot for just being a couple weeks out. We were told to measure stuff out and just eat that. Your hunger/full signals are likely to be off for the first few weeks. Nerves were cut during surgery, and it takes them awhile to regenerate - so your stomach isn't always talking to your brain. Also, most of us don't start feeling restriction until we start eating solid foods. I would run this by your clinic's dietitian and get his/her feedback.

I hate it, i had second thoughts going into surgery and was treated like i was having pre op nerves. I woke up hoping for some reason the surgery hadnt been done and i spiralled from there to the point of being suicidal. I have been beating myself up over why on earth did i think this was a good idea, why didnt my gp explain how serious the surgery was and why wasnt i given other options, why did the surgeon say " the effects of the sleeve only last 18 months then its up to you" my mind heard in 18 months you will be back to eating and drinking normally, why didnt my dietian say you are not ready for this when answering her questions, why didnt she explain in full detail how eating and drinking would change forever. I spent 8 weeks on my sisters couch curled up in the foetal position bearly eating, having anxiety and panic attacks. I am getting better though i am back at work, i cry at least once a day over what i have done to myself and its hard to incredibly hard. I find no joy or pleasure in food any more its a chore to eat and drink. So i guess i am dealing with lots of problems i wish i hadnt had the surgery as i would much prefer to be fat and happy than slim and miserable 😢😢

I'm almost 30 days shy of being 3 years post rny gastric bypass. I've recently started having right upper quadrant pain. It's not severe or acute, but it's uncomfortable and nearly constant. It is sort of under my ribs and it kind of wraps around to my back around my shoulder blade on the right side. I think it could be my gallbladder but food doesn't seem to make it worse. I'm wondering how common internal hernias are 3 years after surgery. Google is no help because everything I look up is geared towards licensed, well educated medical professionals, which I am not lol...and I should know better than to go to Google anyway. It's been going on for close to a week. Urgent care visit on Tuesday showed normal CBC, Urinalysis, and comprehensive metabolic panel. It's now Thursday and I don't see my primary care until Monday. Wondering if I should visit the ER if this far post op there's a real possibility of internal hernia? Or should I try to get in touch with my surgeon? Or just hold out until my PCP appointment on Monday afternoon and pray nothing else happens.

To those who had a very easy recovery...
AngieL11282 replied to AngieL11282's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled for about 10 days (2.5-3.5 weeks post op) but now I am losing again. From what I've read it seems that stalls are very common and completely normal. Just keep working the plan and the weight will come off! We didn't gain it overnight so I think patience and persistence is going to be key to long term success! 🙂 -
I am 19 months post op from DS surgery. I’m SO happy with my weight loss. I’ve been fluctuating between 140-144 for a while now (months) this week out of the blue with no change in my diet (which could definitely be better) or exercise (which is always good) I’m up to 145 146 148. Should I be worried this is a wall I’m hitting? Wil I be 175 by the end of the year? Not that I’m emotionally scared from my pre surgey life or anything ha! Or is this just normal and keep on truckin’ and expect to be back in the 140-144 zone in a week or so. Argh so nerve wracking!

I think that these feelings can be very normal! I came out and was like wtf did I do?! It stayed that way for a few weeks. As time went on it got better. Then at about 5 months out, I started with horrible acid reflux. Like shooting out my nose, choking, throwing up in the night half asleep. Then it came back again. The regret. Got that better controlled with meds, it went away. Then started with gallbladder attacks. The regrets returned. Getting that squared away now. Though when I think about it, I would not be where I’m at without the surgery. I am SO MUCH healthier. Down 104lbs from my heaviest. I am off all my meds and insulin. I am just all around in a better place. I think the regrets come and go, and it’s normal. Sometimes I even get jealous when someone is eating a sundae or ice cream (oh I’ve tried it and I about died so no way)…and those little fleeting thoughts creep in. But overall, Even with bits of regrets, I would do it all over again in a second.

I did my surgery on 9/7 also and I’m having a great recovery also. I’m so thankful I have no pain and I walked so fast I forget I had it sometimes. But I need to take it slow especially with three kids. I do have a hard time with food loss and learning how to eat but it’s a new change and I try to stay positive. I have three growing boys and fiancé and it’s hard when they buy junk food or things I should t eat. I don’t eat it but I do wanna say this is a big change and it’s hard any advice on how to control cravings? -
Constant Nausea 8 weeks post-op!?!
Candace76 replied to Allie bird's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with nausea. It must be frustrating to not know what is causing it. I was given anti-nausea meds by my surgeon for after the surgery. If you don't already have a prescription for that, perhaps you can ask your surgeon if that is appropriate. I agree it might be a good idea to see what your primary doctor thinks, too, maybe they have some suggestions to help figure it out. I only seemed to get nauseated at night before bed and it was right after taking my nighttime medications & vitamins. I think it was connected to the vitamins in my case. The anti-nausea medication helped, and I continued that for a few weeks & changed some of my vitamins & timing of them. Dehydration can cause nausea (& so can blood pressure changes), so you could be right that it could be a contributing factor. If you suspect you are just slightly dehydrated, maybe you can try incorporating electrolyte powders (Liquid IV, Pedialyte). I know it is tough to get those fluids down the first few weeks, and even harder with nausea. I hope you figure it out & feel better soon. 🤞 Keep us updated. 😁 -
October surgery friends??
Meganator replied to LyricalWarfare's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Doing the sleeve NEXT WEEK! On the 13th with Dr. Sashi Ganta in Austin, TX. Currently on day 2 of 28 of liquids only (pre op 1 week & post op - 1w clear, 2w all liquids) and trying my best not to be hangry or cranky about it. But I am kind of hungry and cranky about it right now- not going to sugarcoat it. But I am otherwise super excited about everything! -
RNY April of 2012, so that makes 9+ years out. My surgeon no longer practices bariatric surgery and most likely isn't even in my state any longer. I have had to make due with visits to hematologists, psychologists, primary care docs and more recently, went to a different WLS center for a consult and also to an endocrinologist to address the weight creep up that has taken years to put on--really can't blame the Covid, but rather letting a combo of sloppy habits and less intense exercise run the course to the expected outcome: the dreaded regain. To complicate matters, I have been so exhausted that I have been trying to get to the bottom of that as well. Ruled out anemia (I have had to get iron infusions three times), ruled out thyroid (although I do take NP thyroid and the endo upped the dosage a little bit), and while menopause is a factor, I got on bioidentical hormones to try and feel better. Somewhere in the middle of this, I had the brilliant idea that perhaps I should wean myself off antidepressants because they might have contributed to the weight gain as well. Uh. This is not the year to get off antidepressants, being all stressed out at work with all the students back to in-person learning and no clear direction about how to distance kids who seem determined to sit on top of one another, etc. After the new bariatric consult, where I was basically told that because I had open gastric bypass and then had incisional hernia repair and fleur de lis abdominoplasty, my insides are too messy to do any kind of revision, with the adhesions and all. But what I NEEDED to hear was what I have been doing: back to basics. Push that protein--90 grams. Watch the carbs and fat. Exercise. And eat less calories. 1200-1400. Since that visit I have tracked my intake on MFP and gave myself one day a week to have a higher calorie day and some kind of splurge. The rest of the week I do two very high protein meal replacement shakes, a Greek yogurt, a couple of hard boiled eggs and something small but proteiny and veg for dinner. I have to say, keeping it boring has kept the appetite at bay. And so far, so good. Nearly back to Onderland again, and I plan on keeping going until I get back to my lowest weight, which hilariously still has me in the overweight category according to the BMI. In addition, since not crawling into bed as soon as I get home is one of my major goals, I went back on the antidepressant, at a little higher dosage after explaining my symptoms of exhaustion. All this to say that the work is never done and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my first post and I figured I would just throw it all out there and include the juice, since that is what it is all about for me and I have been very much enjoying reading all the posts here. Didn't want to be a freeloader with nothing to contribute

My nutritionist recommended room temperature liquids, at first, but I think it was just because it is believed to be most easily tolerated by many people. I did follow her recommendation for the first few days, but was able to switch to cooler or warmer liquids quickly. I did avoid hot or ice cold liquids for the first 2 or 3 weeks just to be cautious. Those were fine once I had them as well. (I do seem to be able to drink the protein shakes (Fairlife) easier at room temperature, though.) You may want to try different temperatures to see what your new & healing stomach prefers. Just get the approval of your team if they gave you specific instructions. Good luck!😊

Hello all, I waited a while to post this and just left the doctors (and I’m a little frustrated) so I finally decided to reach out via the forums. I am eight weeks postop and I have been dealing with constant but random bouts of nausea for three weeks now. They do not coincide with eating. They happen before I’ve even eaten anything and sometimes even directly after eating things. The best I can describe it as is a hunger pang. I am on omeprazole and have been for the entire time and that fact alone made my doctor almost completely rule out an ulcer or anything like that in my actual stomach. They thought it was gall stones maybe, but the ultrasounds came back negative and I’m not having sharp shooting pains, I’m just having radiating hunger pangs - The kind of nausea that you get when you haven’t eaten anything. I feel these randomly throughout the day including just plain nausea, gas and have had light color stools sometimes. The doctor put me on a stronger PPI but told me we can do an endoscopy if it doesn’t work so I am just waiting. Has anyone else experienced something like this? It is really putting a damper on my life, I am constantly interrupted with any good mood by queasiness. My next instinct is to assume that maybe I am just very dehydrated? I have been struggling since the beginning to get enough water in, so maybe that is it. I am scheduled for a appointment with my primary doctor on Tuesday, but any help or tips would be appreciated while I wait for the doctors to figure it out.

I had my surgery March 17, 2021 and I am down 89 lbs from surgery. (107 total) I had a 4 week stall in August. My surgeon said I wasn't losing fast enough because he thought I was eating too much, so I kicked it into high gear and I'm dropping again. It's been a time! My hunger is back and I can eat 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of food at a time.

So it’s been two weeks since I had my gastric sleeve. I have been feeling really sick and vomiting after each meal. Went to see a doctor and he said that I might be pregnant. I took a home test and it was positives took another the next day it was also positive. Thing is, I’m on my period. And bleeding heavy. Not to mention I had a major surgery, many X-rays and tons of tests. How could this be?!

Non-Dumping Syndrome Dizziness and Nausea?
Tomo replied to JDenby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weeks 3-5 were my worst for my stomach to veto certain things, and you are correct that it can be healthy things. After 6 weeks, it was almost magical. Rarely any foamies and/or disagreements. -
So my surgery was on May 26th but I am following those posts about both May and June surgeries. As of today I am down a total of 65 pounds and have lost a total of 45 inches all over. I am down from a Size 20 pant (that fit tight) to 14 and 16 pants! I now have the stamina to walk and run and am now doing reformer Pilates three days a week. As far as food, I am still not hungry and do not have cravings. However, that creates its own challenges as it makes it hard for me to motivate to eat or to figure out what to eat. As we all know we have to eat in order to lose. I have gotten to the point where I now have my staple “go to” foods always on hand! I get so much inspiration from reading everyone’s posts!

Today, I am officially one week and a day post-op. The first 2-3 days by far were the worse and even caused me to have “buyer’s remorse”. But for anyone thinking about surgery, do it! It gets a little easier each day. You do have to learn to be patient with how your body initially reacts to anything you ingest. Is the diet post-op boring? Absa-freaking-lutely! But I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thus far, I have lost 15 lbs, I am astonished. Those 15 lbs have allowed me to drop a size to a 16. I haven’t been able to get down to that size since 5 years ago, before I had my first child. Everyone has those shorts or clothes that you hang on to because you are determined to fit back into them. This week my NSVs were fitting into two pairs of shorts I have been hanging onto. I am so happy! Another NSV (TMI topic) is that I am fully back to being “regular” on my BMs, makes me feel a little more normal since it took about 4 days after surgery to have one.

For the Trackers: What's your diet been like the last 30 days?
lizonaplane replied to ms.sss's topic in The Lounge
Oh, I only use the free version too... guess the fancy schmancy charts are out of reach for me, too. I will be starting to go out to eat more because I'll be traveling for work soon, and I'd really rather not be eating out so soon (I'll be five weeks out when I start traveling) but I'm dying of boredom being stuck at home...
