Hunger, exaustion and guilt
Jdub replied to Stacy_wls's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you're pushing yourself really hard at the gym, you're obviously going to need a few more calories to nourish the body. As long as you are eating healthy and within your ranges, you'll do great! Follow your NUTs advice. Currently on my full liquid diet, my NUT said any ranges my surgeon gave me I should be at the higher end (due to my structure), so for this phase it was listed 600-800 for me, so I'm trying to hit close to 800 calories a day. I found that hitting the gym everyday this week with 30 minutes of intense cardio actually slowed down my weight loss this week as I think I was pushing my body into starvation mode and i was getting those hunger pangs more in the evening this week then what I'm used too. As an example, I consumed 735 calories on Thursday, burned 630 from exercise in addition to what the body normally burns for the day and sets me up in a huge deficit. I'm going to reduce the intensity of the cardio for now until my calorie intake is back up to 1000-1200 and I think then I'll be okay. Everyone is different, so please don't use my numbers for yourself, as I'm just trying to explain whats been happening with me as it might shed some light on your own dilemma -
Any Long Island, NY Banders
Bander92210 replied to Bander92210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nice to hear from you all. I am from Long Beach but now I am in Uniondale. Just like all4gizmo my doctor is also Dr. Geiss. I am also thinking about getting the Wii since I don't like to work out :smile2: I am trying to find things that I like to which will help me with my weight loss. -
Well, i do heavy weights, not light. But i work all body parts, total of 5 days a week lifting. And i do cardio 5-6 days, generally anywhere from 20-45 minutes, depending on my weight training.

Work Out Regimen
Banned member replied to alexis1408's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I walk 2 miles 3-4 days a week. We have lots of hill where I live. I'm 4 weeks post op so I haven't started lifting yet. I also lift heavy and I probably wont be able to do that until I'm at least 7-9 weeks out from surgery. I might have to just settle for the 5-10 lbs girly weights lol but it's better than nothing I plan to start running once I get the all clear but it's too early for that. -
Like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. If you use it the way it is intended to be used, you will lose all the weight you need!

my dr told me that statistically i could lose 50% of the weight with MINIMAL COMPLIANCE. i asked what that meant and he said that statistically if you try minimally then you will lose 50% of the weight but if you adhere to proper eating and exercise that you can lose all of it. not sure how true that is, but that's what i was told.

Hey I look at it this way...I had about 80 lbs to lose and if I lose 40 and get stuck at least that is 40 lbs that is gone for GOOD! Unlike any other "diet" I have been on where the 40 lbs leaves for 6 months then comes back with 10 "friends" causing that gradual but REAL climb up the scale. I would rather lose 40 and maintain than lose 40 and gain, lose 50 and gain, etc etc so look on the bright side My doctor also told me the same as above....that I will still have to put in the work and I will get out what I put in. There are many many success stories where people lose all or nearly all of their excess weight but the stats have to figure in everybody including those to "eat around the band" and dont lose. You can do this and so can the rest of us on our current journies

I was reading up on the lapband last night and read that the average person only looses 45 to 55 % of their access weight with the lapband. I wonder if that's true...So in other words If i need to loose 100 pounds, statistically speaking, I will prob. only loose 50 pounds. That is discouraging to me...very! I hate to pay 14,900.00 out of my pocket plus go through surgery unless I would loose 80% to 100 % of what I need to loose.

statistics?
TheRealSouthernBelle replied to martinbjl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't be discouraged! Statistics are just that: statistics. I'm sure they include people who haven't lost any weight into those averages as well. Plus, I think doctors tell their patients this, so if they don't lose all the excess weight they can't say their doctor lied to them or they will be prepared mentally if they don't lose all the weight. I feel it is possible to lose it all! I have faith in myself (for once in my life) and faith in my band. I just CANNOT eat like I used to, the band won't let me, and that is one contributing factor to my current success. As you can tell from my ticker I want to lose 188 pounds. There are many people on here that probably look at that stat and gasp and say she will NEVER do that and there are probably some medical professionals that believe the same. Personally, I know that it can be done. I've seen too many success stories. I have NEVER been slim or a normal size in my life and I finally feel as though I have the opportunity to make that happen. I'm almost already to that 45 to 55% stat. Maybe I can hit a homerun and get that 100%. I'll probably already be satisfied with my body before I even hit that stat. I'm already fitting into size 20s. I don't like statistics anyway (I took too many stats classes in college). LOL! -
Have You Had This Happen With Your Band?
adorablentx replied to adorablentx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Than you guys for replying. Glad that your doing well alriz0204 ready to be in your shoes!!! CowgirlJane I have had my band for three going on 4 years in feb but I wont make 4. I have not had a fill since early 2011. I was 223 but have gained 18 pounds. Man I was hoping it was not a slip but I have been coughing really bad which a read on OH is also a symptom of slip, but It just happened recently in about a week or week and half ago. I didnt know I had to get unfilled before surgery but I guess I will do that with a doc at home instead of going all the way to Houston to do it (not waisting my gas) Thank you for your help I really appreciated and yes this is not normal at all for me usually im okay but things are starting to get stuck more easy, I drink fine, however I have not even had the appetite to eat because any and everything makes me want to throw up, but I have to eat something so thats the only reason I do. Thank you guys so much!!! Grateful B. -

Sleeve Surgery Post Op
abefroman329 replied to WorkInProgress2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’ve found the whole thing to be a struggle, honestly, in terms of not being able to eat whatever I want. The pre-op Diet was definitely the worst, but only because I was starving the whole time. After the surgery, it was just walking through a grocery store and being pissed off about not being able to eat the foods I was looking at rather than walking through a grocery store and being pissed off about not being able to eat the foods I was looking at rather AND being starving. The results have been impressive, but I got down to this weight using Saxenda two years ago without so many food restrictions (and then the medication quit working, and then I put it back on, but that’s another story...). It’s been a mixed bag so far. -
Dr. Douglas Krahn - Dr. Krahn's Office Location is not in Rancho Cucamonga
JenB78 replied to donnalemaster's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Your right. He used to be part of weight options for life in Rancho Cucamonga, but he is no longer affiliated. When he did my surgery, he was still in Rancho, and my surgery was done at The Rancho Cucamonga Specialty Hospital. He does most of his surgeries at St B's now. INCREDIBLE doctor. I cannot say enough good things about him. I am almost 2 years post op, and I have lost 115 pounds, thanks to Dr Krahn and the lap band -
Weight loss stalled, any ideas?
busdrivinmom replied to cheshirecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello and congratulations on the weighrt you have lost. Yes people stall with the weight loss. I too have and am going through that phase. I have learned through the support groups and keeping up with this web site that it can be a common thing. I have lost 45 lbs within the last year-- however I really would of liked to have lost more. Our bodies go through a lot of changes with this band and the body has to catch up with itself. Others will say no way but as the Dr. and nutritionist tell me everyone is different and all will lose at a different rate. Just keep up with yourself, stay focused and don't give in, to the downfall of being stuck. You will start losing again. Praise yourself for the beginning of a new you. -
Welcome to the ''hood! Your story could have been mine! I had my sleeve surgery on May 3rd of this year and I have not regretted it at all. I don't think I would be considered a fast loser, but I am really happy with the results. I, too, only lost a total if 10 lbs over the 5 years that I had the band. So, losing 38 lbs and passing my lowest band weight has really been wonderful! You will do great! Just follow the rules Abd enjoy being able to eat like a normal person. It is amazing to live without constant barfing!!! I have only thrown up once since the surgery and that from s girl that used to throw up 2-3 times a day! Success! I love it!!! Good luck and keep us posted! Cheers- Barb

Frustrated with Self Pay and coordinating preop in US
PJinWashington replied to mamamareli's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Nope...the surgeons in Mexico do their own pre-op workups. When you sign up with them, they send you the pre-surgery required diet and then all the tests are done the day of your surgery before your surgery. IF you want an American contact in Mexico who can answer all your questions and help set you up for surgery there, let me know and send me an email. This gal has had weight loss surgery herself and has a "recovery bed and breakfast" where she takes care of you in her lovely home in Mexico after your procedure so you don't have to stay in a strange hotel. If someone is coming with you, that is fine...they can stay with you at her house also. I had two VSG procedures in Mexico and had no issues whatsoever and am very pleased with the care I received. -
My future Bariatric office uses Tanita body composition scales. Take shoes off, step on and it spits out all sorts of interesting stats. My coworker says wearing layers of clothes and a heavy purse will not affect my weight on this scale. She said it only measures your body. Is this true? (I hope not) I'm right around 35 Bmi so I need to make sure I'm a certain weight when I have my first visit. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Nervous!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to ashleykristen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi ashley! Welcome to the boards. It's natural to be nervous, excited and pre-occupied with an upcoming surgery. I can tell you prior to weighloss surgery I hadn't had as much as a stitch prior. Well other than having a baby. I've had 4 weight loss related surgeries and each time I do have to say the hospital team really took great care of me and making sure pain was at a minimum and that I was comfortable. I had the lapband put in, in 2006, revised in 2008, removed in 2010 and now the RNY July 11 2012. This last experience in the hospital was more pleasant than them all. They have specialized wards and team members that help you all the way. Even in the hospital while waiting for my surgery the docs gave me something to relax in my iv...enough that I was still awake to help move myself to the surgery table but, felt really relaxed and safe. I hope you have a great experience! -

I kept reading about My Fitness Pal and thought ok...ok....Well, I finally joined and, If you haven't already, YOU SHOULD!! Not only does it keep you accountable throughout your day, it helps to see what you can do to keep the weight coming off! I had a really strong start being banded on 8/17. Then as predicted the weight just wasn't coming off as easy while I was doing the the same things. I thought this was just the process. I found out by entering my exercise and goals to loose that I wasn't eating enough calories. In less than a week I am already seeing the benefits of this great tool! You can use on your PC as well as an app on your DROID/APPLE device. HOW CONVENIENT!! It is super easy too! Thank You to all who have been promoting this and convincing me My name is leepfrog on there if you want to friend me Good Luck to EVERYONE! We all know this is not an easy road, but together, WE CAN DO IT!!

I was encouraged to start walking while still in the hospital also. You will still be healing for some time, so listen to your body and don't over do things. Walking will help jump start the weight loss and aide the healing. Best of luck in your journey.
