    Regular weight loss or not?

First of all, 10 pounds/month is outstanding, if not excessive weight loss. relax and enjoy the ride...you are just at the very beginning of a lifetime of change. But in any case, You should be drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces for optimal weight loss. So for you, that's 95oz. Water is required for the biochemical process of fat metabolism. Without enough, that fat is going nowhere. Besides the fluids, you should shoot for 60-80g Protein. It will help with weight loss, maintaining muscle mass and maybe even hair loss down the line. Also, what is your calorie intake? A lot of new patients aren't getting enough calories and that can cause stalls as well. Good luck....you got this!

    Year long stall

I am almost 2 years out from VSG. I lost 60 pounds in the first year but have stalled for most of the 2nd year. I regained 10 pounds and if I let myself, I can eat more than I thought I would be able to. When I went to my pain management doctor last month, I got to talking to her about my sleeve surgery and my weight loss. She told me nobody loses weight on the pain medication I am on and most people gain weight. When I talked to my sleeve doctor, he didn't say much and just shrugged it off. This is very frustrating because I cannot be without my Lyrica (I have fibromyalgia). Is anyone else on medications where weight gain is the primary side effect? How has that impacted your weight loss after VSG?

    Rescheduled Surgery

Our state's COVID positivity rate is just under 10% and getting worse daily. Our governor just shut down bars and restaurants again placed strict limitations on social gatherings, gyms, churches, etc.
  5. Today is gonna be easy peasy! Ok so I am so sorry for all of you out there who have to do several weeks of liquids prior to surgery! My nut wants me doing high protein, low cal, low carb, no fat... I need at least 10 ounces of meat per day and up to 4 veg, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 0 fat. Yesterday I cooked all my chicken for the next 10 days. I cut bnls sknls chicken breast into 2 ounce strips (approx) Cooked them in the oven with some cooking spray. Next I put 5 strips in each ziplock bag. 7 in the freezer and 3 in the fridge. Went to the store last night and got Sargento low mozzarella string cheese. I also have V8 splash for my 1 serv of fruit and 1 of my veg servings. Vitamin Water Zero is my new fav drink since I quit Pepsi Max. I am also taking a women's multi-vitamin every morning. I will switch to a diff vitamin source the last couple days before surgery so that I will be used to it. I don't have a date yet but have submitted to fep blue for approval. After approval I want to be scheduled asap so I decided to go ahead and start the pre-op diet since it's not taking away any of my protein shakes I have stocked up for after surgery. I LOVE chicken and cheese so I think this is gonna be quite easy for me. I am not going to be eating much else. Going to a cook out Sunday but I will be taking my chicken, cheese stick, and vitamin water and avoiding the chips and soda!! I am super excited about the prospect of surgery in my near future!!! I am praying for an approval and a speedy one!! My children, friends, and most family know about my decision. My husband is SO supportive!! Alot more than I thought he would be. But he sees all the work I am putting into getting prepared mentally and physically. I have lost 30 pounds this year and I should include that in my ticker... Thinking I may change it. My mom was very skeptical at first but I sent her to vertical sleeve talk on FB and she started reading there and now she is so excited for me!! I am going to be BLOWING UP fed bcbs phone lines checking my status LOL I love reading this board!!!! I feel like I know so many of you and I have met a couple. You all are fantastic!!!

    EXTREMELY Late Period

So all my life I have had period issues. When I was a teen and into my early 20's I was on birth control pills to give me more normal and regular periods. Was also told that it would help my PCOS, Endometriosis and Adenomyosis . My GYN really wanted me to get a hysterectomy saying that was really the only thing that would cure that stuff but I wasn't ready. I was also young and not sure if I wanted another kid or not. So I didn't get it and stuck to the pills. And the BC pills worked for a while. Until about 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with high BP. Then the doc took me off of them. I was back to square one with the monster migraines, heavy, clotty periods, the periods coming whenever they felt and staying as long as they wanted sometimes lasting like 14 days at a time, etc. Right around the time I was diagnosed with high BP and taken off, I was also diagnosed with Insulin Resistance. So my endocrinologist put me on Metformin and said that would help the IR and PCOS/Endometriosis/Adenomyosis issues and help me becomes regular again without BC pills. And it did!! I would get my period like clockwork within a few days time (usually every 28-33 days). And it usually only lasted like 4 days. So I get the sleeve surgery and was told that my periods could be irregular to start. It was kinda heavy the first few times after surgery and lasted a lil longer than normal but nothing nuts. One of my main goals for getting surgery was to get off of my medication or at least have it cut down. Well on September 13th I had my Metformin cut in half by my regular doc! Needles to say I was very happy! However I now think it's the reason my period is 47 days into my cycle today, 16 days late!! Like I said, I had gone to the doc Sept 13th and got my last period on Sept 17th. I've yet to have one since!! I swear weeks ago I felt like I was gonna get it. I had the aches, the tenderness down there and in my breasts, etc. so I'm not sure why it hasn't come. Has anyone experienced this? I do believe it's due to the Metformin being cut in half. Otherwise it would be very coincidental it was anything else like me going through the change/menopause suddenly when I've had no other signs or symptoms thus far. Has anyone gone through something similar? And no, no chance of being pregnant. Hubby was fixed years ago. Don't really wanna have to go on the pill again just to be regular. And especially not now since my BP meds have also been cut down and I'm doing great BP-wise.
  7. My dr said protein bars should have at least 10 grams protein and under 230 calories. Also said to ignore other things on the label. I like EAS and Center for Medical Weight Loss bars.
  8. I had to go to an urgent care center about 1 week before my surgery on 10/3/16 and found out I had gout. The doctor there actually tried to talk me out of the surgery. He congratulated me on my current loss of 30 pounds but told me because I am in a commuter relationship and happy and very healthy looking I should not have it. When I told him it my choice to,have the surgery as a tool for healthy weight maintenance he backed off and was happy for my resolve. Sometimes I think, they try to test how willing you are to stick to the change and use your tool. Sent from my VS980 4G using the BariatricPal App
  9. My name is Hutch - I have a tentative date of May 9th with Dr Aceeves in Mexi -Cali I am a truck driver and struggle with weight loss so I have made the decision to be sleeved. I am nervous but not scared. I have been 100 lbs overweight for the last 10 years and I have tried every diet imaginable - and they work for a minute and then fail. I have no one to blame but myself. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma and planter faciatias in my feet which causes me alot of pain. I hope and pray that after the surgery with time these conditions that I mention will go away. I recently got married to a beautiful woman that was sleeved in Janurary,2010- and when she said that I needed to get a passport I thought she was excited about going on vacation but little did I know she had other plans - I am happy though because I feel that this is the best decision for me and for us to live a long and healthy life together. If you all will join me in my upcoming journey I would greatly appreciate all of ur help and support. Thank you and God bless, Hutch
  10. My insurance doesn't require any weight loss during the 3 month monitored diet period, but the dietitian told me that I should lose at least 10. I'm down 2 pounds since my Welcome Group, and yesterday was my medical, dietitian and physical therapy required appointments. So the 90 days started yesterday, and will finish November 30th (approx). I was reassured that I should have no problem getting scheduled before the end of the calendar / insurance year on December 31st.

    Pre-op coffee question

I treat myself to a cup of Earl Gray tea everyday and use Premiere Vanilla, but remember I am 10 months post op. I drink coffee, and what @@Djmohr wrote seems pretty common around here, whether people put it in coffee or tea, decaffeinated too.
  12. You know being a closet eater can be one of the hardest eating disorder to quit. I feel like it is like when I started smoking at a young age, it made it much sweeter when I snuck around, also like partying when you are young. Getting away with it makes it more appealing for sure. I had my RNY almost 4 years ago. Due to having strictures (like scar tissue) I couldn't eat many things so it kind of became a ritual of eating the same things over and over again. So I became someone that would wake up 4 or more times a night and I would eat something every time. I have a serious thing that happened to me due to this problem. I sleep nude and I got uyp to go to the bathroom and seen a ice cream on my night stand, I thought hhmm maybe my hubby got it for me. NOPE!!! I had went outside in my grundies and got it for myself I was sleep walking. This has happened so much. Finally I talked to my PCP and I have been depressed, and having anxiety attacks. So I was put on Paxil 10 mg daily which I found out right away not to take them in the morning. They make me sleepy. Now I have been on them for 1 month and NOT ONCE have I got up to eat!!! YIPPEE this is an ongoing problem that if nothing else has been put to rest!!! The excitment of doing something wrong is going to get me in trouble. LOL
  13. Mine was a protein bar because I was SO OVER protein shakes by that point. It took me an hour and 10 minutes to eat one protein bar! Man, it was tough to get through! Now I can at that same protein bar in about 5 minutes... Big difference between 40 days post-op and 7 months post-op!

Went to 1st Support Meeting Last Night

Someone (sorry, I can't remember her name) from Israel who posts here e-mailed me that they have been doing them for about 10 years in Israel and most of the people she knows have had to have at least one more surgery for some reason...so maybe it's not as permanent as we have been lead to believe??? Sweety's Tummy Tuck/mastopexy

I had my Lap Band done in Mexico and I know that there are some fine Dr.'s there, but the thing that is really bothering me right now about Mexico is the crime problem. In fact, I just read this morning that kidnappings are up nearly 10% this year alone. Mind you many of these kidnappings involve wealthy Mexicans, but this problem spiraling out of control indicates to me that the crime situation is deteriorating rapidly there and the government is somewhat powerless to get it under control at this time. Police corruption is a huge problem there -- understandable when you have an underpaid police force in a poor country and wealthy drug/crime lords willing to pay HUGE bribes, a very bad combo indeed. The Mexican people are some of the sweetest, nicest people on the planet and I have nothing but good things to say about my bariatric surgery experience in Mexico, but if you do decide to travel there at this time, be very careful............

    Terrified of my PreOp Diet

Yes, this Pre-Op diet has NOT been easy. I'm on week 3. I started week 1 with 2 shakes a day and a lean protein, veggies and salad for dinner. And that was during the week of the holidays. I did good! No sweets or anything. Then for the past week and a half I've been doing 3 shakes a day. Yes, I'm hungry. But I made this decision on my own to have this surgery. So I must do what is required of me. It's all for a better me in the end and I believe will be well worth it. 4 days till my banding! I'm anxious and really looking forward to it. I'm down 10 pounds already pre-op so I think I'm doing good.

    Aetna Denial

I have aetna, I did not do the physician administered diet and exercise requirement, but was diagnose wit CHF in April 2015 and have been on a diet and exercise regiment since then. My cardiologist wrote a letter stating this and explaining that this surgery is medically necessary. Of course because this plan was to help my heart not to get approval on weight loss surgery it is not documented as need. I submitted it anyway to Aetna for pre-certification on 01/22 i found out today I was denied I have a BMI of 40 and sleep apnea, CHF, and now borderline diabetic. I have now wrote a letter to Aetna which I faxed today hoping they will reverse their decision. Any ideas on possibility of this????

9 days post op and good things to report

I am 10 days post op. What kind of soups are you having? I am on protein shakes only for now but they said I can have some soup ? what kinds?
  24. I was told I had to loose during my medically suprevised diet. Specifically 10% or my insurance would not pay for it. Check into your plan a little more and be sure you don't have to also. I thing it really sucks, but I am determined to do it. Susan
