Did your insurance pay for the lap band to bypass? If so, what complications did you have with the band in order for the insurance to pay? -
going band to bypass in in 2 weeks!
Brookea83 replied to armywife79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lap band removal to bypass for me also. (April 13, 2015) June 2011 was my lap band and I am 30 pounds heavier than when I had lap band Looking forward to loosing weight and no throwing up!! -
I was sleeved on 10/23, I had no complications (knock on wood), getting my water and protein in, gas was decreasing, somewhat regular BM,, pain was steadily decreasing. However, yesterday the pain became worse and steadily increased. Today was no better and it got worse. I went in to my PCP, (who btw had bypass be same surgeon), from there I was sent to the ER (at surgeon's request). They gave me pain meds which only took the edge off the pain and conducted CT scan. They said no leak, no hernia. The CT scan was all clear. So they are thinking it is muscular pain (only hurts when I move), and sent me home with more pains meds. I am very relieved it was nothing serious; however, I am curious if anyone else has experienced anything like this?

Hi Hogan! Welcome to LBT! I don't know anything about Group Health Coop. but I wanted to pass some encouragement along to you. I researched different WLS's before deciding on lapband and even after that, I spent a year researching more in depth and deciding whether it was right for me. I choose lapband over others because of several reasons. It's not as risky, it is adjustable to provide you with the help you need and because quite frankly, the other scared me! In the end, I decided to have the surgery because I realized that the risks of staying obese were far worse than the risks of surgery. I had my surgery this past November and couldn't be happier with my decision!! It's not a miracle cure but it can help us achieve things that we aren't able to do on our own. I am forever greatful for my band! Best of luck to you as you look into this and if you have any questions, let us know!

I'm 6 months post mini gastric bypass. I'm at my goal weight. I have been miserable with gas and painful bloating ever since I went on solid food. Everything seems to trigger it. I'm constantly uncomfortably bloated and the gas is horrendous. It's ruined the joy of my weight loss. I'm eating or trying to eat a paleo diet. I eat small portions, fist size or lower. I chew chew chew. What can I do? I'm seriously considering giving up all solid foods. My fiber and protein intake is huge. Does this ever end?

Just make sure to do LOTS of research. This has to be a decision that fits you and your lifestyle. Now, having said that, this IS a vertical sleeve site, so you will likely get lots of Pro-sleeve responses. I know I am happy that I made that decision even though my insurance would have paid for the lapband AND bypass. I had to self-pay but it was worth every cent. Good luck with your decision.

their rules for coverage of gastric bypass and adjustable gastric banding. That way they should realize that you are talking about two things, but it should also be similar. Since medicare started to cover banding, most insurances do now too. But there are also many different versions of CDPHP also. So check yours. But get it in writing. You may have things that aren't documented, but if you have some they can get documented. Some of the tests may find things that you don't even realize you have. Just take things one step at a time. BTW, don't worry about venting, we all have to at some point... and... we all know how being fat sucks!!! so you are in the right place!! jacci

Considering Conversion from Band to Gastric Bypass
James Marusek replied to Susan626's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a RNY gastric bypass surgery 21 months ago and am well pleased with the results. One of the things that I found out after surgery was that I completely loss my hunger. It was not hard to lose weight when hunger was not constantly gnawing at my bones. I went from a size 3X to a size small in shirts and from a 46 in pants down to a size 33. I ran across a few people in our support group who had lap bands and switched to gastric bypass. In one case the band wore into his stomach and it had to be removed. In another, the band was installed too restrictively. One of the individuals who underwent this change was very pleased by the results. -

waiting and waiting and waiting!!
Cindy C replied to Stace2882's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My insurance had the same requirement but I was able to bypass it. Luckily, I've had the same PCP for 20 years and he had already seen my numerous attempts. -
Hashimoto's hypothyroidism success
asantiago replied to lghngmyassoff's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello welcome to the forum. Yes before my gastric bypass I had hypothyroidism and hashmotis. I was taking synthroid and cytomel for both condition and also had auto immune disorder and severe GERD. After my gastric bypass I am so much better and only take a low dose of synthroid. I have more energy and my body feels different in a better way. Actually I am going to see my endocrinologist in 2 weeks to see my levels. Regarding the type of surgury you deciding depends on what your surgeon thinks is best for your health and medical condition if you have any. I was recommended bypas due to severe GERD and severe erosion and esphogitis. Any question please ask and I will do my best to help you. Best of luck. -
Are you going to have some stuffing tomorrow? My dietician said I can just wondering if anyone else is.

Anxiety Surrounding Eating
Tauruslady5 replied to Jschultes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is what helped me: I ate 2 teaspoons every 2 hours. I am still unable to even eat 2-3 oz of food at a sitting and I had my surgery in November. Take your time, it is a new BABY tummy. They don't eat much when they are first trying foods either. -
I'm just starting my journey with Gastric Bypass and I am wondering and worried because I have been on Suboxone 8 mg twice a day? Does anyone have any advice or know anything about this? Please let me know. Thanks

I had purchased patch vitamins and EZ melt vitamins to meet vitamin requirements. Purchased Propel water at Sam's club, 15g protein, 0 cal, 0 sugar to meet liquid intake to prevent constipation. Purchased from Bariatric pal soups, chocolate drinks, shakes replacements to be sure all protein was met. After surgery on the 28th of August 2020, no pain, some discomfort. Went home the next day after x-ray showing no leakage at Mayo Hospital in Florida. I did walk in place in the hospital to help release excess gas. I did purchase a abdominal binder on Amazon and used it after the surgery. This helped a great deal and Dr said this was a good idea to do this. My goal is BMI 20 or less. Enjoy your healthy journey. Dr. Stephen Bowers did over 1000 gastric bypass surgeries and he was awesome.

Vitamins and Calcium Routines
James Marusek replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you take calciums it is important to spread it out over the day. I generally take 2 Citrical supplements every 2 hours until I meet my daily calcium requirement. [I am a gastric bypass patient and my requirement is 1500-1800 mg per day. Sleeve patients requirement is less. It is 1200 to 1500 mg per day.] I just put them all in a small finger bowl first thing in the morning and take a couple out at a time throughout the day until the bowl is empty. If I am on the go, then I put them in a small zip lock back and take the bag with me.) As far as the Citricals are concerned be aware that the dosage rate is based on consuming 2 tablets. I didn't realize this at the beginning so I was only taking around half the recommended daily dose for the first month after surgery. It is also important to have at least a 2 hour separation between your calciums and your iron. So I generally take the calciums during the day and the iron at night. The iron may be a separate pill or part of your multivitamin. Once you get the system down, it becomes routine. So don't get overwhelmed at the beginning. -

My girl friend and I five years before my gastric bypass surgery. -
If you were doing a gastric band then yes but bypass is a bit more involved. I would check with your doctor but I know my surgeon restricts driving until the first follow up is completed.
