    Very different NSV!

That's what the weight loss is all about. It's not a number on a scale...it's about being an active participant in life and not sitting on the sidelines while the world moves on without you. This is a wonderful NSV and it makes me so happy to enjoy it with you.
  2. My son, my friend and I went to the fair this evening. We had a great time. We wanted to see the hypnotist show before we left, so we got good seats right up front. So the hypnotist gets on stage and of course is looking for volunteers. My son is begging me to go up, so I volunteered along with around 15 other people. Now, 7 months ago I never would've wanted to go on a stage in front of hundreds of people when I weighed 333lbs. I would've been mortified at what people would've said about me, and I never would have been relaxed enough to be hypnotized. But that was then, this is now. I now weigh 185lbs, and am so confident in myself that not only did I volunteer, I actually got hypnotized and was the star of the whole show!! My friend was actually laughing so much that she burst a blood vessel in her eye!! My son just loved that I did it, and that I got hypnotized. And when the show was over and I got off the stage, I didn't even feel embarrassed...I felt good that I took such a risk. Funny how losing weight opens up such weird and different opportunities!! 3. This morning I was trying to decide what to wear.......my closet is getting skimpy since a lot of stuff is too big now......but I pulled out an old pair of size 14 capri's and they fit perfect!!! I was wearing a size 20 to 22 before surgery and that was less than 3 months ago!!! Yay me!!!
  4. A dress I was able to find in their clearance section in a size 12! I was so excited!! Shopping has been so awkward actually looking in the "standard size" sections and grabbing a size too big instead of too small. It's taking my brain some time to adjust to look for a large or even a medium sometimes instead of 2XL.

    NSV shout outs

Oh god, a month out tomorrow and I already have had so many thrilling NSV's: - I'm not constantly overheated so I'm using the A/C less at home and will save $$$ - saving $$$ on food - people keep telling me I look "Rested" "Rejuvenated" or that I'm "glowing." A close friend told me I seemed "the best I've been in awhile." - I moved to to a tighter hook on my bras - I can walk up the hill on my way home from work without needing to catch my breath - In fact I am already walking faster and longer than I have in the last 2 years

    Big NSV Today!

    awesome nsv!
  7. Met with my urologist this morning and I am now officially off my meds for low testosterone!!!
  8. So I went to cedar point last year and I was about 235, I'm 5 "4". So they have a tester seat before you get in line. I can get on most of the rides except if they have a lap belt because these hips and butt don't lie. I was turned away from one ride. My kids were like happened?? So I said I'm too fat. The last time I was in the 200's and could get on all the rides comfortably I was probably between 202-210. Some of those lap belts were the difference between 1-2 inches. I dodged going to the park in years before and we usually would go every year. So last year we had been long overdue. We're going again before the kids go back to school (like end of August) and I'm hoping to be in the low 2 teens (wishful thinking) but It would be such a NSV for me!!!!

    Scared

It's definitely a lot easier to find reasons not to do something. You have to make the decision based on what you want for you and your life. Most of what you see on the negative side are things that pass with time. Sure there are a small percentage of people that have complications and some can be serious, but those are risks with any surgery and if you look at the research, the percentage of complications with gastric sleeve surgeries is less than with other WLS surgeries, and even less than most other elective surgeries as a whole. People tend to talk more about negative experiences because they are looking for answers or encouragement. When people are feeling good, there's typically no reason to ask questions or post because those people aren't really looking for information. Take a look in some of the "NSV" (non-scale victory) threads and see the amazing things being experienced. I have had nothing but good experiences so far...closing in on 100 lbs lost less than 4 months post-op, having to buy new clothes because even the ones I couldn't fit into for years are now too big, being able to be more active with my kids, feeling confident about going out into public and actually being the one wanting to go out for a change, less aches and pains from walking/running/swimming/biking, sleeping better, and most of all, just being healthier and feeling better about myself. It was the best decision I've ever made and the only regrets I have are (1) that I ever let it get that far and (2) I didn't do this sooner. Anytime you're nervous or have questions, speak with your surgeon and team...they will help you understand the risks involved and can help you through the questions. Best of luck to you!

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Hi APanda911! I still miss taking a giant bite of something, barely chewing and swallowing it That sounds so gross, but there it is... Congrats on your NSV! I think mine is probably that all of my cardigans are loose in the arms now...I used to have to stretch them out so that they were comfortable, now I just slide my arm in and they're already loose! I live in the Seattle area, so cardigans are an everyday item

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Checking in! I am feeling very good, down 29-30 lbs. I was in a stall, then dropped 4, now I'm stalled again...but it honestly doesn't phase me, i know i won't be stalled forever! I am feeling very normal as well, i have been dealing with a bit of acid reflux, but i take the pepcid and it goes away immediately. I need to keep up on my Water, prescriptions, and Vitamins. Not doing a good job AT. ALL. Otherwise I've been eating with my family during meals, went out to dinner etc etc. I have a few sips of wine when out at a social event, but otherwise no drinking. Still miss overeating sometimes (especially when my kids wanted pizza night lol!) But overall i am SO GLAD i had this surgery. I love that even now I'm fitting into new clothes and people are noticing my weight loss. NSV: Yesterday i bought a size 18 jeans in the misses dept!!!! Haven't bought from the non-plus size dept and under size 20-24 in FOREVER. What's everybody's NSV? Share one if you have one!!! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  12. From the album: Progress Photos!

Most candid shots of me, throughout my entire life, have typically been mortifying. Lately I've been noticing that I don't hate (even like?) them! THAT is a pretty awesome NSV!!

    NSV shout outs

Had a nice little NSV myself today. Only have a couple pair of shorts left (that l can wear safely/ without falling down). I knew I had dropped a size or 2 from 42-44's I had been wearing. Did a little shopping at Kohls and actually fit comfortably into a size 36 pair of Levi denim shorts. I seriously do not remember the last time I was in a 36, let alone getting the first pair I tried on.
  16. I was sleeved almost 4 weeks ago and one thing for sure is less ankle and knee pain. I walked for about 4 miles yesterday and didn't need to ice my ankles after! Still new at this and looking forward to more NSVs [emoji3]

Brand spankin new - SIPS surgery March 10 2016

That's great! I'm 4.5 months postop now, and I'm halfway to my goal weight. I'm down 115lbs now, and about a month ago I got on a plane and did NOT need an extender. I won't lie - I cried. Very emotional and a proud NSV, for sure. You'll get there soon enough and it will be fabulous, just like you!

    6/27 buddies?

I was also sleeved on the 27th. Down 20lbs since surgery 43lbs since starting the 2 week preop diet. I feel good. If I sit for too long my incisions are sore. I am going to start seeing a therapist that specifically deals with WLS because I have a lot of struggle with head hunger and emotional eating. Hope she has some ideas on how to curb that! My mom noticed I had a waist and that was a pretty awesome feeling and NSV for me!! Good luck to everyone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

365 days to a new me

DAY 31 10 Days post-op HW: 371 SW: 335 CW: 324 Good and bad report today. First the bad- last night I mistake head hunger for real hunger and boy did I pay the price! It was about 2 hours after my last meal and I felt "hungry." Now mind you, I haven't been truly hungry (not like before) since I had the surgery, but last night I felt like I needed to eat. I figured since it had been a couple hours since I last had something I would go ahead and eat. BIG MISTAKE. Not only was my Protein shake unnecessary, I also drank it way too fast. I immediately felt sick. Started heaving and spitting up foamies. Cramping and hot flashes. I was miserable! Definitely not something I was to repeat that is for sure. Now for the good- had my first NSV today! Several months ago I bought two pairs of comfy 3X pants from Walmart. The first pair- made out of sweat pant material- barely fit. The second pair-which were flannel- didn't fit at all. I was so disappointed. But today I decided to try them again and low and behold.... They fit. I am writing this update in my "new" soft lounge pants :-) Oh! And I can drink without chest pain. So that is another positive! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    If the seatbelt fits...

eating out - Soups, chili, non-fried appetizer (shrimp cocktail is always a good choice), or order an entree that fits into your program's parameters (nothing fried, basically Protein and vegetables) and just eat a cup of it (or however much you're supposed to be eating now). Then have them box up the rest (that is, if your hotel room has a fridge!) congrats on the plane thing - that was a huge NSV for me as well!

    If the seatbelt fits...

I love these NSVs. Congrats. Don't sweat the eating out. You may find it's not such a challenge when you realize the camaraderie and conversation is so much better when you aren't focused on the food. Make the right choice when you are looking at the menu, and then just sit back and enjoy.
