  1. I'm finally mustering up the guts to ask for help. I am 5' 2" and I had gastric sleeve at 205 lbs. My struggle with weight has been life-long. I dropped down to 155 and I was actually quite happy there, as I was down to a size 10. I consumed about 900 cal/day at that point. Everything went to hell in a handbasket when COVID hit. I truly do not mean to make excuses, because there are none, but there were situational issues. My husband was hit severely early on in the pandemic, the kids were doing remote schooling, I was out of a job, I wasn't exercising and I chose to deal with all of this by getting diet sloppy. And the weight has just been creeping up. I am now at 190 lbs. What's even worse, is that according to the 13cal/pound calculation, I would need to eat 2470 calories per day in order to maintain a weight of 190lbs. I don't come close to that. I average 1600, and usually not even that much. My metabolism has always been a problem, which I suspect lots of people can identify with. I have tried Keto and Atkins on and off, but they are not sustainable for me. I read up on Pouch Reset, but then also read about the weight regain. I'm considering intermittent fasting, or simply using my Baritastic app and dropping it to 900 cals. I even looked into a revision, but that wouldn't solve the core issues, which I can't even identify at this point. I'm so ashamed by this. I've made a mess of this but at the same time, I'm committed to fixing this problem. Help? Thank you...

    Clothes shopping weirdness...can you relate?

    Yup! I had lost most of my weight, I was still safety pinning my trousers on work clothes, to the point that one of my colleagues said they would cut them into ribbons if I kept wearing them! I used cast offs from smaller friends as I was dropping sizes fast. But when shopping I would pick up the size I thought would fit, my friend who came with me would ask what are you doing your not that size anymore. I think it's a confidence thing, you are so used to looking like a walking jumble sale, when something actually fits you are not sure that it really should or that it looks good! It took me until I has my tummy tuck done to realise I was actually quite small! 5'2" and 130lbs! Very, very strange.....but you will get used to it and then you won't be able to stop bloody shopping!!

    Clothes shopping weirdness...can you relate?

    I've been steadily going through my clothes and and am now fitting into most of my smallest sizes. I'm not allowing myself to shop for clothes until those ones start to fall off, and hopefully by then I'll be able to thrift. I'm just really trying not to buy any more fast fashion because buying sustainable and ethical plus-sized clothing is IMPOSSIBLE in Australia. I can't justify buying new clothes that I'm going to once again shrink out of in a couple of months. Anyone asks me to go anywhere posh in the next few months, and I'll be turning up in jeans, a t-shirt, and a mildly apologetic expression.
  4. You're supposed to feel full really fast. That's the whole point of the new stomach - to keep you from eating as much. You're still new to this, so it's going to take a while longer for you to adjust both physically and mentally to the new you. It's okay. We've all been there. You've GOT THIS!   5. I am 8 weeks post op. I've lost 42 lbs. I am now at a stall weight which is fine I guess, I've read serveal post that say this stall is just temperary so I'm trying to remain optimistic. My biggest problem is "food". Nothin goes down right and nothing feels good in my stomach. I'ts very discouraging. And I miss the satified feeling you get when you eat something really good. Everything I try to eat taste okay but not good. Plus I get really full really fast.
  6. Thanks. I have actually struggle with logging in my food, I haven't done that in a really long time. I felt like I didn't really have to do it for the first six months so I recently started trying to get used to that habit, I would do well logging in breakfast but than the rest of the day I would just fail so I think I should start logging in my foods and try to develop this habit. I think I am doing well with my exercise; I think it's mostly my food. I know I was snacking way too much too so I am trying to now avoid snacking on those snacks that im like hooked to and im going to avoid eating out for this coming month and see if that helps. I just bought tons of meat at the store and veggies so im hoping this will help me this week, taking it day by day I do love cooking so my goal is to cook in batches for the next day and week, to make my food delicious and colorful and to just enjoy it again. I also do struggle eating slow, I tend to eat fast and I haven't been drinking at least 64oz of water per day, I know my body needs more especially with me exercising more. I guess I am just feeling overwhelmed with logging in my food, exercising, drinking enough of water, etc. So I guess I know what im struggling with, so I just need to focus on those to help me get back on track. It just seems harder already, my appetite has increased greatly and im lacking motivation at this moment because I still have a long way to go

    Do hiccups mean anything?

    Mine it’s full signal or ate too fast. I had them for like 15 mins yesterday, so annoying 😂 But, I’ll take hiccups over the cues some others have.
  8. Band-to-bypass patient here. I think I may have perspective that will help you considering I've been through it myself. I never lost weight with the lap band because it didn't work for me. It never reduced my appetite and it merely felt like a road block between my esophagus and stomach. Food slid through the band pretty easily (if I chewed well enough and/or ate slider foods) and considering it was much easier and more comfortable to eat that way, that's what I did. The lap band does NOTHING to stop you from eating as much ice cream or cheesy mashed potatoes as you want. With the lap band, if it's adjusted properly, you get a hard "stop" when your pouch is full. You have to be careful with the bypass because "full" is a much more gradual feeling. Eat slowly, or else you could end up eating too much and that is painful. Restriction is there but it's a gradual feeling rather than the sudden feeling of "I can't eat anymore." Keep in mind other benefits the bypass has that the lap band doesn't: malabsorption, reduced/muted appetite, and prolonged satiety. I would get hungry pretty fast after drinking water with my lap band (I always waited the 60 minutes we were told to wait and even so, the food washed right through my pouch). With the bypass I'll stay full for several hours. I get hungry but not *famished* to the point where I'm shaky and desperate. You're just 1 month post-op but it will get better feel free to PM me if you want to chat. Having had a lap band before will make this experience different for you. I'd get so frustrated when people told me the lap band was "just a tool" but it felt like someone gave me a bent screwdriver when what I needed was a jackhammer. The bypass is a much more powerful tool. I lost 20 pounds in 6 months with my lap band and then stopped. I was so frustrated with feeling miserable that I just gave up and ate what I wanted. With the bypass I've lost 101 pounds in 5 months. It's night and day, truly. Even on days when I want to give up and eat what I want, I can't. And I really appreciate that. Try eating a couple cookies and see what happens 😂 actually, don't. For me it's really bad farts but for a lot of people it results in terrible dumping so it's just not worth it. Anyway, I hope I provided some comfort for you. It will get better and you'll lose weight!!! It's such a better tool than the lap band (or as I call it, crap band!)
  9. It's very normal to regret surgery early on - many people do, and it's easy to see why. You're in pain from gas and the incisions, your weight hasn't gone down (and may have even gone up!) due to all the fluid pumped into you during the surgery - as a side note, STAY AWAY from the scale for the first month!! And you may want to eat but cannot, you probably feel nausea and fatigue. Recovery SUCKS. Then ketosis symptoms set in. For me it was dry mouth, leg cramps when walking up a hill, brain fog, and general fatigue. I drank my 64 ounces of water a day and still had cotton mouth. It was crazy. That being said... being in ketosis means you're burning all your fat stores to stay alive so you just cope with it. My dietician said you could resolve the symptoms temporarily by drinking 24 ounces of juice for 3 days. But the thought of drinking something so sweet made me want to gag so I never did that. Anyway, IT DOES GET BETTER. When you step on the scale 4 weeks after surgery you'll see the number has dropped significantly. Your clothes will start feeling looser. The pain and nausea will subside. And you'll start to feel closer to normal. Every week it'll get a little better. Eventually your energy levels will normalize, and then they will increase as you get slimmer. It's fantastic. I'm 5.5 months out now and feel great. I can eat relatively normally (albeit much smaller portions than I used to) but nothing bothers my tummy. My appetite is back but it's not impossible to ignore like it used to be. I feel 20 years younger and am in really good shape. I love being able to take stairs without losing my breath, bend over and pick things up off the floor without my joints and back aching, chasing my kids around, walking fast, and crossing my legs It all is worth it in the end!! Hang in there!

Start pre-op: 112 kg / 247 lbs Surgery: 108 kg / 238 lbs (- 9lbs) 1 mo: 99 kg / 218 lbs (- 20 lbs) 2 mo: 93,5 kg / 206 lbs (-12 lbs) 3 mo: 87 kg / 192 lbs (-14 lbs) 4 mo: 84 kg / 185 lbs (-7 lbs) I started at BMI 35 so my weightloss has not been as fast as others, but I'm happy with it. I'm almost 5 months post-op right now, so I don't have more data. I'm just a few pounds away from a healty BMI and my weightloss has definitely slowed down. I've also been struggling since the holidays. Have been eating more crap than I should. Having trouble getting back on track. Would ideally like to get down to 70 kg, but I can't even remember ever being that weight, so I honestly don't even know if that's a realistic goal.
  11. Not a breakfast eater as well. I get coffee in the morning with almond milk, sometimes I put a protein supplement (if I am low on protein the days prior) in it along with collagen supplement. When I do eat breakfast, I'm far more hungrier during the day so I usually don't eat will 1 pm or later. The forcing myself to eat breakfast went out the door when intermittent fasting became a thing.

Especially if you grew up in the 70's you were always told, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" and "Don't skip breakfast" and I think even Schoolhouse Rock had one about "Breakfast: Break the Fast." But is that really true? Do we really need 3 meals a day? What if we only ate when we were actually hungry? Maybe 1 or 2 meals a day? Dr. Robert Cewes says that we don't need breakfast because our livers release stuff in the morning (Dawn Effect) - the stored sugar while we were inactive - your liver releases it all in the morning to get you up and moving and energized. He says if you're not hungry in the morning, don't just eat just because you think you're supposed to. There's a lot of theory that the food manufacturers back in the day paid heavily for advertising to convince us of certain "health facts" that really weren't health facts but opportunities to sell their sugary breakfast cereals, processed foods, etc. So I think we sometimes need to reexamine the science and medicine against what we have always heard or think we know from 40 years ago. https://youtu.be/Qleee_1yYHQ
  13. Hey there everyone. New here, but I figure you all have more wisdom than I do. I am having such a hard time! I am currently sitting in the 170's. Usually around 172-174. I am 5'5", and an athletic build. For instance, I wear a size 6 sometimes a size 4. I started out my weight loss journey at 280, but my SW was 241. I workout often, and eat around 1200 calories a day, but for some strange reason I have literally not moved in over 2 months. I forget how long now, but basically since October when I hit the 170's. Im feeling very frustrated. I don't know what to do differently. I track, I drink my water, I do weight lifting, I follow my plan that my nutritionist gave me. (most days). And yet, nothing. Is it possible my body is at my set weight? I still feel like I have a lot to lose. I have a lot of loose skin, but I definitely have at least 20 lbs of fat left to lose. I don't know how I could do things any differently. Im thinking of trying Intermittent fasting, or maybe Keto. or both. But I just don't know. I am at a loss. Do you guys have any advice? I can't afford to reach out to my NUT right now, (I don't have one with a program, I have to pay out of pocket), so I am following her getting back on track program, which is high protein low carb. But even that isn't making the scale budge.

    well I'm three months post op, i lost 50 pounds and fast, then it slowed to a crawl, I still can't eat much, and I watch what i eat. and now I finally got my metabolism back to normal, as of a week ago, and now feel great. and i know that will help with the weight loss too, and yes I have loss a lost of hair, oh well
  15. Don’t get frustrated my Dr told me some patients do not loose anything for 6 weeks because your body is in shock and upset from surgery and trying to heal. Just stick to the program it will come off I go through 3-5 days loose nothing then I’ll loose a pound and then loose a little everyday for a few days then bam nothing again. I wanted more weight loss but the Dr said I’m doing good plus slow weight loss is better than fast because it gives your body time to catch up and tone up like you said. Also I was on the liquid preop for a little over a month so I’m so ready for real food. I am walking 2 miles a day and that is in the house because the weather outside it not walking weather. 3 more weeks I’m cleared to go to the gym. Also make sure you’re getting your Water in that helps a ton. I do a Protein Shake at 8 AM and pretty much only eat puréed tuna all day ever 2 hours 3 ounces and if I’m hungry again after 6 I do another Protein shake. i feel like I am eating cat food with all the puréed tuna but it’s the only thing my body likes right now

    You can say that again!!!! This is work forever. I too get sick a lot. I know it’s because I’m not eating a lot. I’m at work now and I ate some jello. I’m ok for now, but I’m fighting back the sleep. The clock is not moving fast enough for me.

    Well I was very fortunate to have an uneventful recovery. The one change that has been hardest for me is to slow down my eating. Try it once and you will see. Or better yet start slowing down now for practice. I also for some reason have been able to eat more than expected at every stage so I have to measure everything. It has been a little adjustment to stop eating when I don’t feel full yet but honestly I think that it just a mind thing because after a few minutes I realize I am satisfied even if I don’t feel that full to the brim feeling. Another thing that is hard is not comparing your journey to others. I have been a slow loser from the start but many people continue to lose up to two years so just cause the weight doesn’t come off super fast doesn’t mean that it won’t. Just listen to your team and trust the process.

    Oh yes this is a lesson learnt with time. Something I’m still learning now… I’ve always been a fast eater, due to short school or work breaks in previous years. I’m never a metre away from Gaviscon! Because it’s a life saver when this happens. Everyday is a school day getting used to a new way of living… I’ve only really ever had one proper episode of ‘dumping’ and that was at Christmas, I got too greedy and I very much regretted that moment! It’s the only time I’ve vomited since surgery. we are all going through this together.. this is why this forum is so nice, it’s a great place to discuss these things with people who really understand. i just always had that final goal in my mind and pushed through.. but still I’m teaching myself each day new boundaries. 😊
  20. I read about this before my surgery back in November 2021. Gallstone formation is a known complication due to fast weight loss. Sending you lots of healing energy. Let us know if you are doing the cholecystectomy. I will have my 3 mo follow-up soon and I will discuss this cos you can take something to prevent the gallstone formation.

    1 month post-Op work out/Exercise?

    Eh, as much or little as I felt like, really. I knew if I made it too 'perfect' and too strict I wouldn't do it. I just promised myself: I will walk. 3 times a week. Sometimes with a friend, making it a long frosty trip around the lakes; about 2 hours with bench breaks, looking at the dumb ducks. Sometimes, I'd walk 10 blocks out and 10 blocks back at 9.50pm after a long day at work, 20 minutes or so. I knew I needed positive experiences, and my competitive gene would carry me the rest of the way. Sometimes, I walked more days in a week. Because it wasn't a sad chore, it was something I wanted and could manage. It doesn't matter how fast you walk or run for that matter, all that matters for calories is distance. Actually, the only thing that really matters is you do it. Just walk. Get out there. Promise yourself you make it a short one when it's a rainy day, and that you'll make it a longer one when the sun is shining. Bring people along; a podcast; bread crumbs for the dumb ducks

    1 month post-Op work out/Exercise?

    I went to water aerobics a lot that first year (I still do once or twice a week, but I went a lot more than that the first year. I have a bad hip so walking fast enough or far enough to get much benefit out of it is tough - and I was too heavy at the time to do much else). I think I "rode" the stationary bikes and seated ellipticals at the gym, too. Once I was about eight weeks out, I was cleared to do weights, so I added in the weight machines at the gym, too.
  23. I've done the Wendy's chili; I just don't like it. Taco Bell, black beans for beef is a free substitution, so a few things can be modded to fit. Honestly, gas stations (as was mentioned) is my fast food on the go, primarily because they always have the crispy protein bars. One of those, and a cup of coffee, and I'm good.
  24. I'm losing more than weight. Ran labs to prep for my annual exam and since my pre-op labs in September (sleeved 10/13), I've lost:

    • 39pts off my Total Cholesterol including...
      • 29pts off LDL
      • 33pts off Triglycerides
    • 18pts off fasting glucose & almost normal range
    • A1C is lower on low end of "pre-diabetic" range

    My surgeon does labs at 6 months, so this is cool info to have in the meantime!

  25. You've lost 70+ pounds in 4 months and you don't think that's fast enough? That's FANTASTIC!!!! You're doing fine. Your weight loss is going to slow as you get smaller and that's perfectly normal. 8 pounds is still good in a month. My (unsolicited) advice is: (1) be realistic. you're doing GREAT, quit beating yourself up. (2) talk to the counselors as your surgeon's office or a private therapist about your food issues with head hunger and eating issues. But be kind to yourself. You've GOT THIS!
