    Pasta

Even carbs from vegetables, melon and berries halt my weight loss and even can cause a 2lb weight gain, overnight. My NUT said not to eat any fruits/veggies for a while, so I'm sure that the carbs from whole wheat Pasta wouldn't be any better.

    Epidural cortisone injections

Cortisone is a steroid and one of the side effects could be weight gain. I have gotten one cortisone shot before and didn't experience weight gain from that one. However, I took another form of steroids called methylprednisolone and put on over 15 pounds. Please see the link below for more information on cortisone shots: http://www.webmd.com/arthritis/what-are-cortisone-shots . I was diagnosed with a herniated disc several years ago. What I found to be helpful that alleviated ongoing, intermittent back pain (which when it occurred was very excruciating) was Chiropractic treatment. I wish you all the best with getting the weight back off and hope that you can find an alternative treatment to the cortisone shots!
  3. I was on gabapentin a couple of years ago and I would find myself eating large amounts of chocolate, like 10 to 20 Hershey kisses several times per day. As soon as I quit the drug this eating stopped. I also cried a lot on gabapentin (not usual for me at all). I think there are a lot of possible side effects with it. I'm 100% sure weight gain is one! slow loss could it be......

I am no doctor but I can't help but believe that medications play a big part in weight gain and loss. According to statistics, 80% of all medications list weight gain as a side effect. It just doesn't make sense that one could eat so little, exercise, follow all the correct weight loss protocol and stall out after 50 pounds or so. I know statistically, the sleeve only helps you lose about 60% of the weight you need to lose. I think there is more to weight gain and weight loss that simply calories in, calories out. Just my opinion . . .
  5. After WLS, I Gain A Little Weight When…… I go on vacation and eat what I want and don’t weigh myself. Now that I’m years out, the weight gain is fast and its slow to get back off.
  6. That's funny (not funny ha ha). I've only had food issues with seroquel and have never heard of it with gaba. I take 3200 mg of gabapentin. Weight gain is basically a side effect of every medication (except when it's weight loss) but so is nausea, blurry vision, etc.

    January Sleevers Check-In

I second what Nika said. Just hang in there! I had some serious regret my first week with all the complications I had, but every week has gotten better and better and so has my outlook. Don't beat yourself up too badly about not losing a bunch of weight yet. It'll come in time. I was very frustrated because I came home weighing more than what I did my day of surgery. Having to lose the "hospital" weight gain made the first week and a half frustrating, but once I got past that hump things were better. I will say the better I do on my fluids, Vitamins, and Protein the better the weight seems to come off. It does make a difference. Keep your chin up!

    Unfill & rapid weight gain

I had a band fitted 5 years ago and was happy with the weight loss. For the last year I developed severe reflux , night cough, sliming. Etc. Surgeon reduced my fill by half and the symptoms disappeared immediately. BUT I’ve also gained a ton of weight in 2 months , feel no restriction and get severe bloating. Anyone else have this problem . Going to try a little fill ( after the holidays !!🤪)

    DS after VSG

Greetings, I am getting the DS and ohh so excited, I had the sleeve and had weight gain now I am close to my original starting weight, I started the process of DS a few months ago with the intention of sleeve revision or gastric bypass, and my surgeon discussed my options and DS it is! So good people of this forum, I am seeking advice, pearls of wisdom, any info you care to share. I am an RN and have researched all the data, pros and cons, now I want to listen to those who have experienced the surgery and their story. Thanks a million

    Complications....so broken and sadden

@@beltran2000 - Hopefully the most of your weight gain is from all the fluids and you'll soon be on the mend.

    Old habits creeping back

Like many others here, weight gain is a big issue for me. I'm curious what others here eat on a daily basis. I stated at 367 and got down to 228 (I'm 6' tall, now 53 years old). My goal was to get under 200. After a couple months of not tracking my food, I found myself back up to 242. I'm back to cutting carbs and trying to keep my protein at 70 grams a day, focusing mainly on vegetables. I generally work out about 3 times a week (cardio + weight training). I usually end up eating in the range of 1300 - 1500 calories a day. I thought at that range, I should be losing weight at a pretty decent rate, but that's not the case. I'm wondering how many calories other guys eat in a day. Thanks.

    How ofter do you weigh

I weigh myself all the time and I know that makes me a "slave to the scale!" Anytime I'm at home I get on the scale - all hours of day & night. I work during the day (btw). I contribute some of my weight gain for not having a scale for a few years and it was "out of sight - out of mind." It's probably better to weigh once a week. Whatever is best for you! I'm a little psycho about it (lol) & I know I am!
  14. Good afternoon love! Just wanted to reply to your comment and share a bit of my journey with u. I had a revision in December from a VBG(first weight loss surgery approved) in 2004 to a gastric bypass do to esophogus issues, heartburn and major weight gain. I lost 46lbs after revision. The vitamins I see you posted are great but expensive. I have blood check up every 3 months have been amazing and i take a Bariatric vitamin from amazon. 16.77 month. My health is fabulous. Look into amzon for vitamins love. It will really save you money and they work just as well. Please take your daily calcuim after revision and you will be just fine. Good luck and God Bless you
  15. Thanks you guys. @MelodyBronson Did you notice any significant weight gain or loss after it was removed?

    Gained 2 pounds!!

Chips are a slider food, a.k.a. slurry food. Other sliders include crackers, pretzels, biscuits, mashed potatoes, cookies, and other snacky carb treats. You can eat an unlimited amount of sliders. Sliders turn into a liquid slurry once you chew/swallow and don't stay in your stomach for more than a few seconds, so they'll never challenge your sleeve in a way that produces fullness or satiety. You can eat a 1-pound bag of chips and never feel full. Sliders also promote rapid weight gain because they 'slide' right through the stomach into the small intestine where the calories are readily absorbed and stored as fat. You have an amazing tool in the form of your sleeve. If you continue to sabotage your body's weight loss efforts by eating junk foods and high-glycemic fruits so early in the game, then getting a sleeve may have been an ultimate exercise in futility. Don't waste your tool. You can do this. Good luck to you.
  17. ((hugs)) You are right on time for the "Sophomore Slump". Come join us in the Sophomores thread! Honestly, it's a tough time. And your tool is maturing allowing less restriction. It's part of why it's so important not to believe the myth of restriction/malabsorption. At some point, everything in moderation will have a different meaning volumetrically and that could be enough to either derail losses entirely, cause stalls, or rebound weight gain. The things that helped me: 1. Planning, weighing, measuring and logging my food daily--good and bad 2. Following my surgeon's basic guidelines for the forever-diet including the 1cup max per meal; 3 meals + 1-2 VERY small snacks a day if necessary, protein first then veg then fruit and a tiny bit of fat. 3. Mixing things up to make them fun again--I added IF/EF to my plan. 4. Find fun peeps to hang out with who have shared goals/paths. Hope that helps!

    Scared

My wife, three neighbors with LapBands and this forum helped me make the decision to get the sleeve. My because for three decades she has seen me yo-yo diet and lose 50-100 several times. Only to gain the weight back plus more and she wanted me to succeed this time. The forum because of all the support and counsel I received when I was battling it out with Aetna for 18 months to get approved. Finally I have four neighbors with the LapBand, one is doing ok, but the other three have had serious complications, and weight gain. Think of this as my wife describes it as a more get it and forget it operation because I wouldn't have to go in constantly for fills. In addition, the complication has been rising and success rate plummeting. My doctor is doing less new LapBands and taking out many as he does sleeves. Yes, it is a bit more dramatic but your chances for success are greater. Good luck to you.

    New Here..lots Of Questions

congrats on taking the steps to changing your life. Few things you didn't mention: your height, your weight, have you had kids? natural or c-section? Theses are my reasons: I find that the taller people that don't have a huge amount that have not had kids do better with the skin issue. I on the other hand am 5'2" weight 223 had two kids via c-section. I have lost 80lbs ... give or take a few. I exercised and lost weight slower than most. My underarms, legs (inner and outer thighs) have no issues, no problems with the neck either...... But, my stomach was different. Even though i worked out i still had the stomach apron, mostly due to the two c-sections. So at two year and three months out i went and had a tummy tuck. :) I'm so happy....for the first time in 20+ years i can wear a bikini in public. Like the rest, i would rather have the loose skin then be back at 223lbs again. Others are right, every person is different with the band and so is every person's insurance. I started my process in Aug. 09 and was having surg. nov. 09. I had the seminar, visit with nutritionist, heart dr., swallow test, sleep study, I didn't have to do any diet as i was right at 40.8 with no co-morbid s..... in fact i purposefully gained 10 lbs to meet insurance of 40 BMI. I'm not ashamed of that and would do it over again. At one point i was at 230 and dieted with WW and got down to 213. But could not go below that.... so when i started research and found out i had to be at 40 i gained 10lbs back... Gain 10 to lose 80... hell yes and i would do it again. My PCP sent in a paper with my medical history and so did my GYN... to show my progressive weight gain over the years. that was it... approved first letter. I wish you all the luck....
  20. Steroids will cause weight gain. If you can only eat unhealthy foods are you too tight? Discuss it with your surgeon.

    3 months in..

Have you gals read Alex's book about the Lapband? I know I did, I proudly can say that 11 pages in the book are from me. They have me as Ilene from Ny and Florida. I never had a support group to go to as other gals do. After almost five years with the Lapband, I just live my life. I used to dwell on food all the time and even got chewed out by someone with a history like mine. I was so mad that I un friended her. But she was right. I now think of exercise every day, the food is secondary to me. I am 66 years old now and it took me 15 months to lose 86 lbs. at this time, I gained 27 lbs because. Last year I had 8 surgeries on my legs. And I was unable to exercise or walk much. Then 7 months ago my brother died, and I have been depressed and sad. A combo of stress, lack of sleep, no exercise and a band that needed some un filling created a weight gain for me. I now have a new doc and I am in the green zone . I am on my way. I am telling you this because sometimes life pops in and all the planning you might have done can mess things up. Rome was not built in a day. Hugs to all.

I had to get mirena removed 2 months after it went in.. I had horrible weight gain.. I've been looking into the copper IUd but I'm scared lol

    Mirena Iud

I had one about a year ago and it migrated up in my uterus and would pinch every time I sat down so I had it taken out. You an have increased bleeding or spotting the first few months then once you have had it you might stop having periods. There was only a 5% chance of weight gain in a study they did an it wasn't conclusive enough to say mirena caused the weight gain.

    Multiple Sclerosis and the Sleeve

Wow - they thought I had Gullien Barre initially in 2006 when I was diagnosed - I had ascending paralysis. It was not fun. Teh steroids killed me with weight gain and are a major part of the reason I gained most of my weight (well steroids and immobility and stress and...). Dana - I live in Northern Virginia - right outside of Washington, DC. I need to finish up my profile and add pictures and all that stuff.
