Don't worry after the 3 week stall you will start to loose fast again. The stalls are just part of the process, you get worried you are doing some thing wrong or the surgery stopped working. The stalls are the way your body looses weight, you are putting your body through a big change.

Hi all, I had my surgery March 11 and am doing so well I wish I had done this sooner! I'm down 46 lbs (21 lbs of it was lost pre -surg on the two week liquid diet). I'm feeling better than I have in many years, incisions are healing nicely, on pureed foods since Tuesday and starting exercise back up tomorrow. Only snag is I seem to be on my 3 week stall but with hydration and exercise I plan to overcome that ????

Thank you so much! It's def not easy!!!! I feel like I should have lost more but everyone loses at diff speeds I guess. I'm 38 down since my preop diet. I was 278 on day 1 and 265 the morn of surgery and I'm 240 today. So... Idk. I did encounter a 3 week stall right after surgery tho.

What was your Infamous Week 3 Stall experience?
Kindle replied to NotSoTall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My "3 week stall " didn't happen until I was 6 weeks out. Ironically it was when I was so sick from medication I was taking to try and clear a bad Clostridial infection that I could barely eat or drink. I was probably only getting 400 calories/day. I was dehydrated almost the whole time and needed IV fluids 3 times. This lasted a month and I only lost 2 pounds! As soon as I felt better, I doubled my calories and fluids and started losing again...about 3 pounds/week. As for coping, it was no big deal, I didn't even worry about it. I knew stalls were common and it wouldn't be my first one. I only weigh once /week anyways. As a matter of fact, I felt so crappy from the medication I was making deals with the universe that I didn't care if I ever lost another pound as long as I would start feeling better. -

How much weight did you loose in the first 4 weeks?
1Day1Life4Now replied to willow13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 3 week stall and then I upped my food intake just a little and started my exercise program. I exercise twice a day for 25 minutes. Walking on treadmill and stationary bike. Since I started this....the weight has been falling off at about 5 pounds per week. But...more than the weight loss...my body is morphing. Even during the stall my body was changing. So, life after surgery isn't just all about the numbers...muscle tone, shape and other benefits have to be considered. -

February Sleevers.... Check in!
alwaysonadiet replied to Lulah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved 2/24/2014- I'm just now on soft foods. Drinking is still real tough for me due to the bubbles and burping. I can eat with no problems. I eat yogurts cottage cheese oatmeal. Broths are bothersome but creamy tomato or clam chowder good. I am at the 3 week stall and I'm sure it's because I'm hungry and am eating probably too many carbs. Protein drinks and shakes make me gag so I'm going to try and put some unjury plain protein in my yogurt oatmeal etc. to get it down that way. only 18 pounds down so far. Wish it were more but I haven't lost my appetite, or it came back I should say. Anybody thinking of taking an appetite suppressant? Seems silly but I think I need it!!! What do you think? -
Hey everyone- I got authorized to start working out last week from my doctor. I'm three weeks post op and have been going to the gym every other day. I noticed a 1lb weight gain this morning. Now I'm worried if I keep working out, will it slow down my weight loss? Should I hold off for a bit? I'm also coming up on the 3 week stall so I'm just thinking about everything. Based on your experiences , what have you determined about working out?

Band removed 12-6-13 and sleeved on 3-6-14.Back to work after one week, still some pain in lower left-but getting better each day.I haven't seen the scale move in over a week, after initially losing 21.Is this normal? Anyone else having this same issue? Is this the 3 week stall?#trying to stay encouraged.

Scale vs. clothes vs. how you feel
vanceheather5 replied to Bobbi McGhee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery feb 10 this year. I JUST came out of a 3 week stall! The scale did not move for 3 whole weeks. Then yesterday I had lost a lb and then today I had lost another lb. I didn't do anything diff. I was freaking out! My nutritionist said our bodies have defense mechanisms that cause us to hold onto stuff cuz it thinks its starving. I just started to work out do I'm hoping that will move my scale more. I've now lost 32 lbs since the start of my pre op diet. I started at 278 and now I'm 246. My goal weight is between 150 and 165. So I now have less than 100 lbs to lose! -
Down another lb! Yay!!!!!! 2 lbs since Saturday! I'm very excited! That 3 week stall was horrible!

Sleeved 1/29 SW 242, CW 229... Losing very slow had a 3 week stall hopefully things will get to moving faster now. Between 800-1000 cal, exercise 5 x week -
This is a great thread to read. I agree stalls are very frustrating I expected the 3 week stall from months of research on these forum. What i didnt expect is a 7 week stall, Yep I said it 7 weeks stall. However during that time I stayed the course on my water intake and watch my protein intake as well. I also kept going to the gym and now I have seen the scale move downwards and My endurance level is much higher. It helps to take measurements and also to have a scale that measures your water weight, and muscle mass so if the scale showing weight doesnt move, the others will!! So keep up your good work and have faith the sleeve will work for you!

When I got home from the hospital the whole first week it showed me having gained 7 lbs. but then I lost 17 lbs from my pre surgery weight. And then I had a 3 week stall.

4 weeks out and feeling defeated
Kindle replied to gastricsleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are right on schedule for the dreaded "3 week stall"... Don't get discouraged, stalls happen to everyone. I only weigh 1x week and I'm almost 3 months out. my last 3 weights were 184, 187, and 185. And that was while being sick and not getting more than 500 calories/day. I'll weigh tomorrow, and may or may not have lost. I'm not too worried about it, because in the meantime, my jeans went from snug to loose. So "stuff" is happening even if the scale doesn't say so. (I say return the scale. Not worth it if it makes you stress) -
Yeah doc said its a cocktail of meds. 3 different antibiotics and a strong PPI. He said sometimes it's too much for your new stomach to handle. I guess the little critters are hard to get rid of. I'm not even on solid foods yet so taking some harsh bacteria eaton drugs may not sit well. That's my guess. I'm still worried to let it sit around in there though and I never thought that it may be the reason I'm at a stall. I just assumed it was a normal 3 week stall maybe it's the H Pylori? I wonder if there is home remedies? I read on a post from another site to eat baked garlic and that kills it?? Anybody heard that?

February Sleevers.... Check in!
1Day1Life4Now replied to Lulah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was Feb. 10th. I do have reflux for which I take Prilosec every morning. All 6 of the incisions are all healed, but the two biggest ones have divets in indentions which look rather odd. I'm hoping these go away with time. I go to my Dr. for my 6 week check up on Thursday. I can eat just about anything now except things like steak or sausage. I eat a lot of chicken and fish and a few veggies. Very few carbs. I still drink my protein shakes but not every day. They are good for getting in that extra bit of protein. I drink water all day, a little bit at a time but I still struggle with the 64 ounces. To tell you the truth, the most I've been able to get in is the 48 ounces. I only drink water with SF kool aid drops in it. NO fruit juice or anything else. I hit the 3 week stall but I'm back to losing again. My NSV are that I'm fitting in to smaller close from my other closets that I've not worn in years. People are beginning to notice my weight loss and making comments. I feel better and have more energy. I walk on the tread mill and ride the stationary bike twice per day and I always park at the back of the parking lot when I go shopping. I try to walk as much as I can within reason but I know I'm still healing and I do require a lot of rest. I still can't get use to how little I can eat. My brain still thinks I can and should eat more but my tummy is in control. Thank goodness for that. -

I was sleeved Jan 28th..... SW 220 CW 192..... 28 pounds so far! Had the dreaded 3 week stall that lasted 2 weeks! Walking 2 miles a day.... 64 oz of water most every day.... Concentrating on at least 60 grams of protein daily. I drink 1 protein shake for breakfast that gets my day started with 30 grams of protein right off the get go! Greek yogurt.... Cottage cheese.... Grilled chicken breast... Seafood and refried beans are my staple food right now. Eating is a bit over-rated right now... Still have the feeling a bus is parked in my chest after eating! Congrats to all on your journeys! -
I was sleeved on 3/6/14 and am on soft food stage .I am back to work and I am following "diet plan" strictly .I am feeling a bit discouraged because I haven't seen the scale move in a week now. I am dumbfounded at how I couldn't be losing, eating only 600-700 calories a day???This is my second bariatric surgery .I had the lap band first and didn't have success. My life story has been lose 20 lbs and then, I get a major stall-I don't know what happens???I thought for sure-the sleeve would be different? Could this possibly be the 3 week stall, I have been reading about? (2 weeks pre surgery diet+1 week post surgery) I need HOPE....

What was your Infamous Week 3 Stall experience?
cdestrada replied to NotSoTall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the 3 week stall too, and I just got out of it last week. I started to lose a little bit of weight again this week. I am not sure if my stall was long due to not having regular bowel movements. I might have 1 every 8-10 days. but I was irregular before surgery too. -

Yikes ... 3 week stall lasted 3 weeks? That is terrifiying to me. I am at the 3 weeks and I too have stalled ... no weight loss for 9 days ... it just defies logic does it not? How can I only eat 700 calories and not lose weight??? I was losing weight before on 1400 calories a day. anyway ... once you break through the stall what kind of weight loss are people seeing? the 3 lbs a week ?
