starving.... all of the time!
Rootman replied to april0507's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I would tend to go with the folks suggesting the acid, I had the same problem and got a RX for omeprazole too which is the same as Prilosec but twice the dosage and costs me less with my RX insurance coverage. Try and stay away from traditional ant-acids like Tums, too much Calcium carbonate and not enough Water can lead to kidney stones. I found that I still got a little twinge mid morning and the doc suggested what pregnant women do when they get an upset tummy, white crackers. I eat two and feel fine till the next meal. A lot of my problem is stress, I was on vacation last week and hardly had to eat any crackers, back to work today and I have eaten 3 already this morning. -
Introducing new foods too fast??
Tiffykins replied to pnw218's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely no seedy fruits. I promise I don't mean to sound lecturey. I've just been through the wringer, and I get pm's weekly about progressing diets quickly and then people suffering the consequences. If I can keep just one person from enduring what I went through, I will be happy. Edit to add: Remember as well, you aren't going to get a full signal while on liquids, it's liquids in, liquids out. Plus, your stomach nerves have been cut, stapled and severed. It's not to punish you, it's simply to let your body heal. Believe, I've read horror stories about people having infections, ulcers and leaks due to progressing through the diet too fast. One lady was stopping for chicken salad 3 days post-op. 4 weeks later, she was hospitalized with an abscess on the staple line. It's just not worth the risk when in a few more weeks you can eat literally anything and everything you want. -
Having trouble getting enough calories in a day
Thecloude1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looking for some food advice/ideas to help me reach my 600-800 calories I should be getting 11 weeks post op. On a good day I'm around 500 calories. I'm at the point where I can have 2-3oz of protein but I struggle even getting 1.5 oz . So far today I had my protein shake for breakfast. 116 calories....for lunch...1 oz grilled chicken, 1 oz fresh mozzarella and half a small banana for a total of 144 calories. Not sure what to eat! Any advice would be greatly appreciated [emoji3] -

This is WORSE than a stall! Frustrated...
finediva replied to Introvert's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Peanut butter and ice cream? Really? My only suggestion would be to stop eating peanut butter and ice cream. I haven't lost anything in 2 1/2 weeks. I am sticking to the program. I have no choice. No judgement here. All the best. -
I'm on day two also! But I am on a 2 week blended diet, alternating 800/1200 calories every other day. I use protein added to milk, some yogurt, fat free sugar free pudding, banana and other frozen fruit no sugar added. I am also not a milk drinker...but the nestle non sugar chocolate powder actually is growing on me! Probably cuz I am starving... But does make me feel full! Good luck!

After various seminars, a bit of resistance on my side, and the scale going up...I committed to finally take control. I live on Long Island and found a surgeon and program that is perfect for me. It's taken three solid months of doctors, tests, and follow-ups but I am scheduled for April 14. The ONLY thing that stands in my way is that I did not yet lose the requested 30 lbs. I'm down 10 and have only a week & a half. If my surgeon who I see on 4/9 tells me to post-pone for more weight loss, then I will do so. he is a very cautious doctor and that's why I chose him. Either way I'm on my way to a better life. I've been on liquids for nearly two weeks and I'm already feeling more energetic. That's my short story and looking forward to finding support with this group. Kas-e

I have. Mine was terrible. Ended up in ICU for a week with sepsis on New Year's Day this year. I was almost 2 months post op when it happened. Had another week long hospital stay beginning January 31st with it, gastritis, esophagitis, and I can't even remember what else. Surgeon wants me flare-up free and healthy for six months before he goes in to remove the bad part of my colon. I go for my next colonoscopy the first of August to see where I stand.

Anything I should know?
Bufflehead replied to Janiegirl1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Answers are going to be all over the place, here are mine: Are you in tons of pain? I wasn't. The nurse asked me to rate my pain 1-10 when I woke up post-op and I said 4. That was almost entirely gas pain. Pain gradually got better over the next few weeks. Are you eating the same foods as the 2 weeks before? I was on solid foods before the surgery, my surgeon doesn't do a liquid diet pre-op. I was on full liquids for four weeks after my surgery, then puree for another four weeks after that. Anything else I should know? Tons -- go read the post-op forum every day between now and your surgery. You'll be an old pro by the time your date rolls around. One caveat -- keep in mind that people are a lot more likely to post when they are having problems and issues than when they are not and everything is going smoothly. So don't take all the questions about "I'm having problem x" or "what does issue y mean?" to mean that everyone has all sorts of problems and issues after surgery. Most people have a smooth recovery and progression, they just don't run to post that sort of thing online! Ok I read alot of entries today, and I am getting more excited. I have joined a club, and found a group that is around my age. Well I have written three times today and I am really happy someone had referred me to this site. It was this lady in the waiting room, she was telling me something about her lap band and said she went to this site for advice or suggestions. I thank her, I didn't catch her name but if you remember me by the picture, just wanted to say hi and thank you so so much. I am actually going to refer this to this lady who sits next to me. I think its so weird, but this lady she sits next to me in my math class and she just got her band about 4 weeks ago, and she shares with me about the lap band, she actually going to give my a list to shop for. She says i have advantage to know someone who already went through it cause she did not have anyone to talk to. Ok I guess that is it for now...man i know i am excited i have been on this site all day and have written in my journal three times ...OK SIX MORE DAYS!!!!:clap2::mad:

Ok, well I have been up movin around alot. Yesterday, my friend, her sister, and my step sister all went to the mall. I had lots of fun, but the hard part was when I became very hungry, my stomach started hurting, I was trying to wait till the others were hungry, so then i told them I had to eat something. So we went to the food court, there was not really nothing that I could eat. So my sister and I went to the Cajun food place, she ordered one small plate where we could share, we got some burbeon chicken, and some noodles and potatoes. I ate the chicken(small pieces), and ate some potatoes since that was something soft. I became full quickly, but I keep catching myself, still eating when I know I am satisfied. Then today at school, I went ahead and ate some scramble eggs, and some bacon. I bought some apple sauce for lunch time to eat. This week has been hard these are the todays I really have ate food like this, I did very good i think last week all soups. I guess yesterday i need something i could chew, but i did chew until it was small enough to swallow down my throat. Well all is well here, except my grandfather did pass away yesterday morning around 4am. That was really sad, eventhought I was entirely close to him, he was on my mothers side of the family. I will miss him though, I really am worried now about my Grandma, I love her so much. She has lost a daughter (my mom) and now her Husband. Its alot for her to handle. But I know she is a strong woman, and I know she will hang in there. I really want to try and visit her sometime this year. If not anyother time atleast Christmas or some part of the summer coming up. But I am very excited about loosing my weight, we have a scale, its my stepmoms but i know hers is wrong because wehen I went for my pre-op i was 235 thinking i was 220. So on hers i used to be 220ish (some where around that) Now I am at 210 so I see I have lost something, but today she is going to bring a scale from work. I am glad she works at a health place. Oh I can't wait for my trip to see my boyfriend in Jamaica, he is going to be like Whoa!! Hot Mamaz!!! (hahaha) :clap2:. I already found a bathing suit that I really really really want it is so cute, I found it in the Junior department in Foleys at Willowbrook yesterday. But it cost $76, I want it so bad. Its like a one piece but all the back is out, and it ties up on the neck and the colors are so different. I am going to try and get it, i was thinking about buying it soon. And hanging it up on my wall for something to look forward too. I might do that on my next check if i have it. So my goal is to really loose so major weight by June 23, because thats when we are leaving for JAM ROCK MON!!!!!! and my birthday is June 26 i will be 21. I know i always said i would never get a belly ring but that was because i thought i was to fat and that i would never show my belly but when i loose my weight i can a little. But loosing my weight is for a new beginning in my life. My step mom thinks it my go to my head, and become a little wild, but I really don't think i will be like that because thats just not me. I never really went out because i always felt tired no energy. But i am not going to lie I am going out to the beach parties when i go to JAMROCK MON!!!!! Just have a little fun!!! But ok . lAtErZ!!!!

the three days liquid, well kind of I cheated twice. So now I really can feel alot of restriction. Especially in the morning I beleive it took me at least 30-40 minutes this morning just to eat my breakfast. Which was eggs and crumbled up one sausage and some of a biscuit (mashed up). Like yesterday I ate, and chicken sandwich in the morning that took me for ever to eat, then I ate some pineapples (or drank the juice) since i could not eat the pineapple. Then around 5-6pm I am a little bit of a lean cusine meal, but did not eat all of it. Since i could not swallow my last bite i spit it out. I only dranked tea yesterday. Oh and then my brother bought me a salad at mcdonalds that i told him not to buy but he did i only ate about three to four bites. I am glad i am on restriction so i can loose some of this weight. well ok class about to start. oh yea i had a choc. milk this morning. I need to go on a only water right away. ok bye :clap2:

Ok well next week I will be getting my lap band on, I have not really met anyone that is my age, I would like to ask some questions to a younger person. Everyone that I have asked has been older like in 30 and higher. They all tell me about there gas and how much pain there in, and I know it varies from each person hopefully I will have some luck. Well I have to be there at 5:30 in the morning I think my dad is going to take me and then Sharon is going to pick me up but I need to make sure I let the nurses or doctor know to call her cause I will probably be out of it for a little bit. I am getting butterflies just for writing it right now. I think I am going to be alot happier, I can finally just choose what ever I want to wear. I am really going to have to get use to not eating alot of food, I kinda figured it out. The lap band is just helping you, because anyone could do this diet, just follow the diet book that they give you. Well ok I have written twice already so I will be back to write tomorrow. only SIX MORE DAYS YEAH!!!!!!:wow2::eek:

Question ? Did you gain your energy level back?
marfar7 replied to Ree224's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Absolutely! I could feel the energy come back fully after I started eating actual food, at about 4 weeks post op. The liquid stage sucks, not only becuz I starved but becuz I had very little energy. As the weight comes off, ull reap the benefits of more energy also. I also take Levothyroxine for my thyroid. have for about 12 yrs. Haven't noticed a difference in that area since having wls. Good luck! -
Driving after surgery
Aggiemae replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started driving 4 days post op. A bit of incision tenderness getting into the car, I drive a Mini Cooper (new purchase, tiny car for my future tiny self...I plan to shrink into it over the next 6 months!) but drove my husband's SUV the first week because it was more comfortable. I could have driven home from the hospital if I had been allowed. -
Driving after surgery
Bufflehead replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to be off opioids for at least 24 hours in order to avoid endangering yourself and others, as well as to not be violating laws against driving under the influence. Other than that, as long as you are feeling up to it -- I could have driven 3-4 days post op if not for the opioid thing, since I was still taking those for about a week post-op, at night. Another thing to keep in mind -- you'll likely have a lifting restriction for at least a few weeks after surgery, so if transporting your nephew to daycare (not sure how old he is) involves lifting him/his carseat in or out of your car, you'll need a work-around, such as getting someone else to do the lifting, or, if he is old enough, teaching him to climb in and out of the car on his own. Good luck! -
I'm not sure I completely understand your question..... but, I don't believe it's healthy to feel "full" after only 4-5 bites. You need a good balance of the proper amt of calories/protein. You were only banded 11 weeks ago, that's an average of almost 2 lbs a week. You don't want to lose too fast, take my word.. loose, flabby skin will result. I have a 10 cm band (max fill capacity 4cc) and am currently filled to 3.5cc = if I eat the WRONG things I usually can't get more than 4 bites down. It takes TIME to learn to eat properly and get to a good/comfortable fill level. Try NOT to concentrate on the numbers, don't put so much pressure on yourself. All the best, Karla

Pre Op Diet starts tomorrow.....Nervous & Excited!
CheleLynn45 replied to CheleLynn45's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I called my doc to make sure what it was because my pre op appt isn't till 10/21 at 3pm and my surgery is Oct 27th I wanted to get at least a week of the pre op diet in. My original surgery was scheduled for Nov 3rd but they switched me to Oct 27 and said it was fine to keep my pre op appt where it was. I think because they had to reschedule almost 20 people. My pre op consists of two Protein shakes a day, 3oz of lean protein, 1 cup veggie or salad with low fat dressing, and 1 cup fruit. I don't like vegetables so today I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, lettuce with 3oz of chicken on it with low fat dressing. dinner was a protein shake and I will have my apple in a little bit. -
What are you trying to prevent loose skin? And did it seem to work?
FocusOnMeNow replied to FocusOnMeNow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes I fully intend to do strength training a minimum of three days a week as soon as I'm permitted. I really want to build lean muscle mass and I have to if I'm going to win this race???? -

:drum: :car: After reading one of the post regarding Gastroparesis:( , I am back at the debating table. I am sooo scared, I don't know what to do!! Should I go see the nutritionist on tomorrow? Should I see the psy doctor on 11/2, (if not her next available is 1/18)? :( Wow!!! I am really :( scared and nervous! I don't want to do something that will satify me for a few years (if that) then when I am older have devastating results:( :( . It's a lot to soak in right now, especially when there is no one I can really talk too. Well I may keep my appointments, that way if I do decide in the next week or so I won't have to go through scheduling appointments and things like that. Well, I'll make sure I asks the surgeon about Gastroparesis and the risk factors. Until next time or when ever I get nerous again (just kidding) :( . Type ya later!:omg: Be Blessed, Sheila

After reading the post about having regrets (wow!), I think I have a change of mind about wls. I am sitting here thinking that only one time in my life I put forth great effort to lose weight and all the other times I was just greedy and messed up. I know I have paid money for doctor visits and nutritionists, but I don't think I am ready to have surgery just to lose weight. It is hard being heavy and I am sad at times...but I don't think I can put myself through the sugery. My husband wants me to have the surgery and I have one sister who is for it and a few friends, but I'm not sure if they just agree with it because I am/was all excited about it. Now I may change my mind in the morning when I can't fit into some clothes for work, but as of this very moment my mind is changed. I don't want my stomach folded a bit and stitched in any kind of way, other than the way God made it. I am ranting for a moment...man...I will see how I feel this week. I feel bad, because there are so many that would love to have an approval from their insurance company and here I am with one and now I change my mind. I should have really thought it out before I jumped the gun and started the process. I will pray about it.
