  3. My doc submitted the papers before I did any tests. I have BCBS of Texas and they are very bariatric friendly. My approval was completed within the week.
  4. after just 1 week on solids? No pbing, no restriction, nothing just hard burping a few times a day, irrespective of mealtimes. Suddenly I feel like when I had the most restriction last year. And my esophagus moves ( spasms?) funny. No reflux though (which is what happened last time). Since it was my second surgery, I gave myself 3 more weeks on mushy food to be sure. Now this. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?????? would love to dig a hole and crawl in til next year...... Been on liquids since I felt this yesterday. I am terrified of eating again.... tellie
  5. I have had 5 fills since my 8/3 surgery. I have been dealing with "banster hell" since my surgery and I am 4 months post-op. I just assumed that I would have to push through until I get to my sweet spot and would start feeling that full feeling. I have been working my butt off with stopping when I get the slightly satisfied with my food, working out 4x a week and have been pushing through my hungry. When I went in for my 6th fill, I told my PA that I've been getting sick a few times a week because I get so hungry and it comes on so fast. She thought it was strange since I should have had 5cc's in my 10cc band. She thought maybe I had air in my band and pulled out my saline to take a look. I only had 1cc in my band. We'll, that does explain the hungry. I was told I probably have a leak and would need to have a flouroscopy to check it out. I did have that this past week and it doesn't look like my band is causing any issues (THANK GOD) it looks like I might have a slow leak right at the port. While I was still on the xray screen, they put in 2.5cc' in my band. I go back this Thursday to check my levels to see if they have decreased. My doctor did tell me my port is have a large angle and even if I do not have a leak, he was going to replace the port anyway. It would be a 20 minute procedure and I would be in and out. I do feel better knowing that I'm not crazy not understanding why I'm still always hungry and not understanding after 5 fills how much longer I could continue on. I am upset thinking that I have to continue to push until I get to my sweet spot after the port has been replaced. I am so glad I said something because I really have been pushing myself with 800-900 calories a day without any restriction and working out as much as I can. Has anyone else dealt with this? Can you give me some insight on how things are after the port has been replaced?

Too Much Too Fast? Kinda Freaked out!

Update. I have been much more diligent about protein. I am drinking two 40 gram Muscle Milks a Day in addition to whatever food I eat. Still losing! I am down to 188. Holy Freaking Mother of Mothers! I never thought I'd EVER weigh this little in my life. I think I was in my 180's last in middle school! I am feeling a bit better, knee is coming along and I have been out hiking again. I joined a health club and have begun working with weights with my son. I am SO freaking weak! My son, just turned 18, is 4 inches shorter than me, and WAY stronger. That hurts the pride a tad. But he is very cool about it and helping me out. I am going to hit it 3 days a week on weights, two days a week at Physical Therapy, and one day with a long hike. We'll see how it goes!

Too Much Too Fast? Kinda Freaked out!

Congratulations on your weight loss. Don't be too worried that you may be losing too much. The weight loss phase will come to an end and you will slide into the maintenance phase. It will happen quite naturally. The three most important elements after weight loss surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

    How long?!?!

Hey, your doc should have given you the instructions. If you don't want to mess up, simply follow those instructions. Every doc is different. I was on regual food by weeks end.
  11. I had a fatty liver pre op. My surgeon puts his patients on a strict liquid diet only either one or two weeks prior to surgery to help with the liver shrinking. He told me to do one week, but I was so scared my liver wouldn't shrink enough that I did two weeks instead. I can imagine how hard that was for you to have to not have your surgery due to your liver. Like others have suggested I would talk with your doctor. If he is wanting liquids only then, as hard as it is, I would suggest doing only liquids- without any cheating at all. It is very difficult, but you can do it. Just try to focus on the end result and how great you will feel in the long run. Good luck to you ????

    Order to do things?

I also added extra time to get my official bank check. Since I use an out of state bank that took an extra week. They ask a copy of the check emailed/faxed at least 2 weeks prior to surgery, then you bring the check with you. Read through your insurance policy. Mine covers emergencies arising from non-covered procedures. They give a plastis surgery example. Not really any different if it were cash in the US.

    Getting bored

Smart I am going to get some ramekins. Soon I will start cooking & make a recipe book. Some of the foods look very good. I still have 4 1/2 weeks before I can taste them. I will wait til I get closer to that stage. Nice that your husband eats what you eat. My husband loves to cook & he keeps thinking of different recipes he can make. I am glad my family is supportive except for my 18 year old son he is not on board which is expected. Ha
  15. Well, it has finally happened...I have less than 100 pounds to lose until I am at my doc's "ideal" weight goal for me!!! I am completely ecstatic!! It will be 15 weeks on 9/10/8 and so far, I have lost 84 pounds!!! This is, by far, the best decision I have made in my life!!! If anyone out there is sitting on the fence, especially if you have health issues, seriously consider getting this done!! It has saved my life. My diabetes is basically gone, my sleep apnea is gone and I no longer hurt like I was tied to a whipping post at the end of every day. I will not mislead anyone...it takes more than "work", it takes a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MINDSET!!! You have to let your past life go...forget your diet history, your bad habits and previous failures!! Focus on your new life...one filled with health and fun. Don't think of being on a diet ever again--but make wise food choices. In all honesty, food holds no joy for me anymore...and I love it. My biggest fear was giving up this comfort blanket that I had so desperately clung to all of my life. But after several physically uncomfortable meals, I have let it go!!! So, everybody out there--good luck!! I mean it sincerely...stay focused and remember that you have life waiting for you out there!!!

  17. Hey ladies. I need some help from those of you that have been successful with weight loss with PCOS. My body stalls for at least 3 full weeks with every 7 pound loss. Weird right? I am almost two moths out (8-25) and I have lost 15 pounds post surgery. I have lost 65 total though but I would like to know a couple of full day examples that have worked for you. I realize everyone is different but I would like to experiment. Thanks in advance!

    Coffee

Hi Caty!! I was told to avoid caffeine as well and I actually did for about a week. I am a coffeeaholic though and I just couldnt pull it off once I went back to work. I was told by a few people on this site to increase my liquids as the caffeine will dehydrate you. (Coffee does not count towards your 64 oz of fluids we need to drink every day) I drink a cup every morning, sometimes two cups, then start alternating bottles of plain water vs bottles of water with crystal light or ???? added in. (I really cant stand drinking plain water for some reason) I think you will be ok with coffee just be sure to increase your fluid intake afterwards.

    Post Op......diarrhea

This happened to me my first three weeks it was just horrible. Sometimes I didn't think I was going to make to the bathroom in time. But it does eventually pass. Make sure your drinking lots so you don't get dehydrated.

    Coffee

Ditto, but I started drinking coffee 2-3 weeks out, just my morning blast, and it was heaven. No ill effects. I use splenda and powdered creamer. Remember, coffee too has a stupid carb in it for every six ounces if you're counting... argh! So does creamer and splenda for that matter! I'm not much of a plain Water drinker either but should buy stock in Lipton and Crystal Light powders...! Good luck! C

    Holy Moly Energy

I had surgery 6/25 and I'm still lacking energy... you're giving me hope it's going to pick up soon. But I'm also have sleeping problems so that could be it too. I'm a teacher and not having a routine right now is killing my eating and exercising habits! We go back a month from yesterday and as much as I want summer never to end I NEED to get a routine going again. I lost 65 lbs pre-op and was going to the gym 3-4 days a week! Ugh!

What and how much do you eat in a day?

It's not that unusual to not lose anything between surgery and when you start getting fills....or just lose a small amount. Your first fill probably won't get you close to your sweet spot, but you're officially on your way there. I just got my 4th fill earlier this week (Mon.) and I have reached my sweet spot. 3 meals a day of lean Protein (3 oz., looks like about the same size as a deck of cards), steamed or raw veggies (watch the raw stuff because if you don't chew it really well, it can stick even if you have only minimum restriction). I was told to wait 15 minutes. If I still felt hungry, I could have a serving of whole grain carbs. Until you reach your sweet spot, a meal likely will not stave off hunger for 4 hours (which is the goal, a minimum of 4 hours). I was told to eat a snack of low fat protein, such as a boiled egg, an ounce of low fat cheese, 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese, etc. I have even used a few leftover steamed shrimp as a snack. For Breakfast, when I'm always in a hurry, I just drink a Slim Fast Low Carb Diet. This one specifically. It has 20 grams of proten and 2 net grams of carbs. They make several varieties, so look for the boxes clearly marked Low Carb Diet if you choose to use these. For lunch I usually have Soup and some low fat cheese. I cook dinner for my family. Often fish, since we all like it, but pork, beef and chicken are all on the menu.

    Eating and First Dates.

It's difficult on first dates...coffee dates are good but when it's a meal, and I usually get something Protein based and just say I eat smaller portions now. One guy I was dating for a couple of months always commented and when I told him, he was okay with it but was judgmental. Needless to say, not dating him anymore (there were other reasons as well). Even when out with friends they have noticed, and it's fine. I just take half of it home. Everyone has noticed my appetite is less = weight loss lol win win Good luck! I'm going out next week with a guy and am going to have to deal with the same thing :S
