Cheated post op diet... am I hurting myself?
rumar replied to Liz1531's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. is the same as yours...3 weeks liquid, 3 week pureed, then solids. My appt is 09/26 so he says he might allow me to switch to solids 1 week sooner. I did start eating Yogurt this past Thursday and the 1st time I ate it it cramped me terribly and I got really really scared I'd caused harm. But since then I've had 1 yogurt per day and a yogurt smoothie and it has not hurt me. Now this is all under the supervision of my Dietician of whom I called Wednesday to see if there was anything else I could eat other than the standard broth, Jello.....etc and this is what she told me to add. I will admit on yesterday my granddaughter had a baked potato and I tasted a small tiny bite. I didn't feel any funny sensations but have not made it a habit since. You might want to try some Chinese Hot & Sour Soup (or wonton) and skim the juice off of it (I do Water it down somewhat). At least it gives you a bit of a spicy taste and it has 100 calories and 2 grams of fat (in my case less than that since I dilute it). This has really really helped me. I was told to put something in me at least every 2 hours and I shouldn't have a problem and it has worked when I followed that advice. I don't want to end up in Bandster Hell so I'm trying to be as good as possible. I am so counting down til Thursday when I can have some refried Beans....yum yum. I noticed some can have baked fish and I didn't know that was considered pureed but I'll ask my Dietician about it. I hope you continue to do well and hang it there. Rumar -
Drinking Water before eating
AZnikki replied to barelovers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been told all the same--it's the full thing--drinking will trick you into thinking you're full when you're really not. I hate it too...actually I'm having trouble not drinking during my "meals" (which right now are only yogurt, pudding or malt o meal) but then I forget to drink water at other times!! Hang in there...it will all become clear. Keep asking questions!!! -

Airam13 replied to neveo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded on 4/7. I had trouble sleeping as well. I will be so glad when I can sleep on my side and stomach again. Still a bit sore and trying not to over do anything. I have to be on a liquid diet for 10 days then mushies for 4 weeks. I have lost 5 pounds so far. I have been eating tomato soup and creamy chicken soup I have had some yogurt and some sugar free pudding and 2 sugar free popsicles. Along with 2 Protein drinks I make it in a blender with ice and it tastes like choclate icecream. 4 oz of skim milk 1 scoop of the powder add some ice and blend. mmm mmm. I wish everyone the best of luck and you begin your new journey. -

Any new toys for after weight loss?
Darktowerdream replied to Slimming Down Steve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny thing is I liked my old fashioned looking but updated oster beehive blender. (Still just flip one switch) But haven’t used it at all since surgery. I found it added too much air to the blend. And it was easier to just hand mix (PEScience select) protein powder and put in the fridge around 20 minutes or so before drinking and mix again (thickens it) either that or get RTD. I also like protein shots. Though now if I have protein powder I mix It with yogurt. Cuisinart is a great brand so you got a steal of a deal. Factory remanufactured can be better it undergoes more inspections. I wish we had a place in our kitchen for one of those. -
mmmm greek yogurt (has lots of protein) with fruit and a bit of granola is my favorite breakfast. I agree with IndioGirl also... you dont have to eat breakfast foods for breakfast. Try leftovers from dinner... chicken and veggies in an omelet is yum!

Finally...november 6Th Sleevers!
CoCo41 replied to ladybug143's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Denise your still on soft foods? I am currently on Phase III one week from Phase 4. Currently I still drink my Protein shakes. Breakfast, I will either do a Protein shake, or 1 egg scrambled soft with cheese and a morning star sausage pattie (10gm of protein). I try to get in milk as well since it's 8 gm of protein. If I have to have a snack I do yogurt. lunch I stick to any type of fish, chicken salad, turkey burger etc... dinner same thing but I try to incorporate a veggie like broccoli, green Beans, squash, sweet potato etc.. Good luck on your journey it gets easier and the sooner you start eating regular food the more your sleeve will start to tolerate it and the better you will be. Also the quicker you will start loosing, currently I am doing about 1 to 2lbs a week and i am happy with that. -

not following diet post-op
To be free replied to forme1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 10th and only had to do clear liquids for 3 days now I am on full liquids till week three......you always need to follow your doctors orders but I am allowed cream soups, pudding and nothing thicker than yogurt.......call them and ask if you can go to full liquids...the tomatoe soup shouldn't be a problem it is approved on my diet but the cheese..... Just pick yourself up, forget about it, don't let it happen again and go back on plan, we can do this! Before we could have something off plan and just have "fallen off the wagon" but this time we could do possible damage to our band....... -

The bags of Glenny's Soy Crisps that I ordered from Amazon are 1.3 oz. ea.-- 2 servings each with 70 calories, 5 gms protein and 9 gms carbs. The protein quote on the front of the bag is 10 gms--not per serving, but per bag. So, yeah, it can be misleading if you don't read carefully. I love to spread homemade hummus on them, or even tuna salad made with Greek yogurt!

How do you "remind" yourself to eat?
jess9395 replied to J170's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Set a timer. Do you have a smart phone? Use the timer on it. Or set an alarm clock. Or just a kitchen timer. Use cues through your day, things you do every day like say drive to work, or watch the 6pm news. Use those to cue yourself. And when you do remember try hard to eat protein first. Nothing wrong with the pudding per se, but if you aren't getting in your protein add some protein powder to the pudding or try some Greek yogurt instead. Skip the applesauce and have cottage cheese. When you have sooooo little "real estate" in your new tummy it's important to have protein first always! For when you are out running errands, Eat right before you leave (another possible cue to remember to eat) and bring along a pre mixed protein shake or some powder a water bottle and a shaker bottle. Lots of other options depending on how far out you are, but it sounds like you aren't very far out, so start there. -
This evening I had a very scary thing happen to me, and I'm wondering whether other bandsters have ever experienced anything remotely like this. I was banded just under two months ago and had my second fill four days ago. For the first two days I consumed only Protein shakes, followed by a day of mushies. Today, the fourth day, I had hot Cereal for Breakfast with milk and yogurt. In the afternoon I ate a slice of watermelon. Then for supper I was planning to eat a small piece of fish, mashed yam and steamed broccoli. I tasted the yam, ate one spear of broccoli, then a forkful of fish. It all happened VERY fast. Suddenly I felt restriction -- something I had never felt before. Almost immediately I felt superhot and dizzy. The room began to spin, I put my head down on the table, and at that point I lost consciousness. My daughter says I lost all color, my face turned grey, and I slid off my chair onto the floor; my eyes rolled back in my head, I was gasping for air and wheezing, then not breathing at all (or so she thinks). 911 was called, and paramedics arrived within 5-7 minutes. But by that time I had regained consciousness, and I recovered very quickly -- the entire episode lasted only a few minutes -- no residual pain, normal blood pressure. It being a Sunday night, I have only been able to speak to the on-call doctor at my medical practice, someone I do not know. He could not explain what happened to me and at first suggested that it had nothing at all to do with the band! I don't believe that for a moment, and I will talk to my own doctor tomorrow. It was NOT A GOOD THING to pass out. I have never in my life fainted. What if I had been alone? Very scary.

I really like the triple net zero yogurt. It has 15 grams protein. They have a bunch of different flavors and I like all of them. It is nice to have a change up the flavors. I have a yogurt and a shake daily. That way I know I have my 45 grams of protein. Many times I mix my shake in the nutribullet with ice, my collagen and protein powder , msm and a bit of the PB2 fit powdered peanut butter. That boosts my protein way up. It is hard when you aren’t eating much I try to make the most of my foods with protein. I usually am over 100 with not really trying.

Mine told me I could add those protein shakes too because I had trouble drinking the water.. or had helped tremendously I start the solid liquids ie yogurt tomorrow.

LOL rant... Well not really
Shamrockgirl60 replied to Sasha2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks I will avoid the beef and rice and Pasta. I am on my own pre-op. Surgery is next Thursday the 7th. I don't weigh my self at all. I decided not to. I lost 8 lbs. by the end of June, then in early July I had gained 3 of those lbs. back ( I had to lose 12 for the surgery) then went back on July 28th to meet my surgeon and I had lost 13.2 lbs. I felt great. I am still on my pre-op diet, the doctor said it's great to lose even more before surgery so my liver is shrunk. So other than a few tiny splurges, I am on a strict liquid with one very small meal at dinner diet. My only snack is a 60 calories fruit yogurt in the evening. So I won't weigh myself till Thursday when I go in for surgery Day before I will do a strict liquid diet. I usually had no problem dropping 5-10 lbs a month when I dieted but then gained them back and more when I stopped. So I hope this works. So far I am feeling pretty happy about my decision to do this. I am not missing the junk food either which is strange. -
but I have always been envious of people who experinced pbing or sliming. I felt that I needed to have those experinces so I knew exactly what it was like to have this band, and doing those things meant that I was going in the right direction. Yea well how stupid is that. Tonight I am at work, I work graveyards which is hard, but my eating has been curbed and replaced with yogurt and some fruit sometimes some tuna. Well I have also learned that our stomach swell at night? I took two bites of my tuna which I chewed to death and it got stuck and it hurt, and i cried and I had to make myself vomit. The pain was horrible and now my throat is so sore and I am just so mad at myself. I have noticed lately that in the morning my restriction is so tight, I have 5.5ccs in a 10cc band. So I usually can't eat anything os substance until 4 or 5pm, then by 8pm I am wickedly tight again, the pain is so bad that it makes me not want to eat, I am chewing and chewing, not drinking Water and eating slowly. I know the answer is an unfil but in the evenings I can just fine. I guess I just feel stupid for ever wanting to experince pbing and sliming. Watch what you wish for right?

i've found myself not eating that much. i don't get very hungry during the day, and sometimes find myself eating maybe 1 yogurt and some milk and water all day. Today i just had a yogurt not because i was hungry but because i'd only had half a smoothie and some milk all day. This isn't very healthy huh? lol i am sure next week when i move on to mushy foods i will be inspired to eat more. Has anyone else had this issue of not being hungry?

I feel like im eatting toooo much
chinamama posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I'm a little over 4 weeks, and I'm trying to figure out a few things. Started on soft foods a week ago, today I ate 2/3 of a scrambled egg with cheese and a piece of bacon mixed in. Snack was a 100 cal yogurt. Lunch was half a scoop of tuna. Snack was the rest of the tuna. Dinner was a small chicken tamale (my wonderful neighbor made me some when she heard I could eat soft foods, I know it's not low carb but it was yummy!) snack tonight was a protein drink with frozen cherries. I feel like I'm hungry every couple of hours, and its not head hunger. ( band for almost 6 years I know the difference) I have not had anything make me feel sick, I can drink and eat with no problems, and wait at least 45 min after to drink. I am trying to eat slow but don't need to, though is the slow mainly waiting for your stomach to realize you have had enough? I keep reading of others only eating 2-3 bites and being full, or 300 calories.... What the heck, am I doing it all wrong? -
Most people at this stage are still on a liquid diet. If you are finding it hard to get down the things that your Dr has recommended try going back to liquids. Protein shakes, thin Soups, fruit and veggie juices etc. The focus at this stage is on healing not weight loss so generally it is OK to drink things such as juice which are not recommended later on. If you are struggling with the yogurt try thinning it out a little with some extra milk. HTH
