  1. Ditto to @proudgrammy. Plain Fage Greek yogurt has one of the best protein/carb ratios. I use fruit, Torani syrups, honey or Protein powders for flavoring.....vanilla, banana, raspberry, Irish cream, pumpkin pie, blueberry, peach, hazelnut, English Toffee, cherry, cinnamon, etc. I also often add Kashi Go Lean Cereal for texture, Fiber and even more protein. All of the presweetened yogurts are too sweet for me, so it's nice to be able to control the sweet level by starting with plain yogurt.
  2. @@KM1284 i love, love, love my Fage 0% plain greek yogurt mix all together sweet 'n low few fresh blueberries sprinkles of fruit and nut granola after eating this i feel like i died and went to heaven what a way to go good luck kathy
  3. jess9395 is right...the Greek yogurt has a ton more Protein and is way better for you. I personally am not a big fan and didn't eat any of it until recently, well over a year and a half post-op. I have found that as someone who doesn't like that kind of bitter taste of Greek yogurt, the Greek Whipped 100 calorie cups are really good. I think they are made by Yoplait. If you stick one in the freezer before you make a Protein shake, you can mix it with almond milk, Protein powder, and a little PB2 and you get a ton of protein and you don't really taste the yogurt all that much. The frozen yogurt though thickens up the shake and if you get the cupcake flavor, which is my favorite, a vanilla protein shake can taste like a milkshake.

    Hi all

Me, too! I am so happy to get to add tuna to my rotation of yogurt and cottage cheese.

    Your weirdest breakfast?

An omelet with goat cheese and veg (broccoli, spinach, tomato, mushroom and onion) is one of my favorite foods. You know, now that I think about it, I guess my entire diet would be called weird. I eat whatever I feel like eating regardless of the time of the day. Tonights dinner was greek yogurt with Protein powder and I dipped fresh strawberries, mango and pineapple in it.
  6. I completely agree with @@ShellMilliner . Soft foods that are pureed to a baby food like consistency and then slowly progress to chunkier foods. Keep them moist and remind her to chew until they dissolve in her mouth and eat slooooooowwwwwly. One word of caution with eggs. They seem to be one of those take it or leave it foods. Some people get on swimmingly with them, others have to postpone eating them for a bit. I made mine by taking one egg, a tsp of plain greek yogurt and a bit of shredded cheese. I then cooked them in a no stick pan, stirring frequently to keep them soft & moist. My first egg was the best food I had ever eaten! Glad to hear she is doing well. Just remind her to eat nice and slow and she should do fine.
  7. Rev. Del, also had surgery on April 21st. Losing weight very rapidly. Against advice, I don't weigh everyday, but rather once a week as I get too much in my own head if I gain a pound on a day. I agree about what to eat -- focusing on 75% Protein intake (mushy soft cooked turkey or chicken; cottage cheese, yogurt, string cheese) and 15% veges (canned green beans; sweet potato) and 10% fruit (no-syrup canned pears, soft applesauce), and as few straight carbs as possible other than an occasional tiny cracker to chew thoroughly. Of course, even dairy has carbs but does not concern me. I was addicted to straight carbs for 50 years, it is great not to crave them now, no room in the pouch!! You will get through this, and welcome.
  8. I mix Aldi's FIt & Lite brand of vanilla Greek yogurt equal parts with ricotta, plus a little sweetener. It Is a nice smooth addition to shakes, too.
  9. I was eating dannon light and fit greek pre-OP but I can't stand it, can I just get regular dannon light and fit? Im 5 days post OP today

2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

So glad her recovery is continuing to be positive. Absolutely, yes just like introducing a a baby to new foods you should only do one new food at a time. I would try creamed soups first, maybe mashed potatoes or mashed sweet potato, yogurt. Since her stomach isn't used to having solids I would work up to it over the next several days. Scrambled eggs, meatballs, crab legs and tuna salad we're some of my first soft foods that I tolerated well. Think moist! Wet scrambled eggs with cheese, meatballs with tomato sauce or gravy. Makes it go down easier.

    What is in YOUR "SnackBag"?

CanyonBaby, Thanks for this conversation! It is definitely full of good advice. I don’t think of it as a formal snack bag, but I do make sure to have something available so I can eat if needed. At home, I always keep tons of fruit ready to eat – I love blueberries especially. Also, I have a lot of Greek yogurt. I try not to snack in the car unless absolutely necessary because that’s an easy way to down way to many calories if I start eating nuts or cheese while focusing on the road. Hard-boiled eggs are another quick snack, and beef jerky, although I know it’s high in sodium.
  12. @@Rev Del, When I was at the soft foods stage, I made sure to avoid carbs as much as possible. I lived on protein shakes, SF Greek yogurt, soft scrambled eggs, SF protein pudding (this stuff tastes like %#<>% but it really packs the protein), and puréed meats and veggies. Thankfully, I only had to do soft foods for a week. My plan kept me on full liquids for the first five weeks, purées for a week, soft foods for a week and then normal foods as tolerated. I'm no nutritionist, but I believe that a protein forward diet really helps with weight loss.
  13. @@Rev Del, I drink one protein shake per day (32 grams) and then use a combo of 1/4 cottage cheese (6.5 grabs), 1/4 cup Cream of Wheat (3 grams), 1/4 cup Greek Yogurt (6.5 grams), 1/4 cup milk (2 grams), and the occasional meal of two egg whites (7 grams). Not too exciting, but I can usually hit my current requirement of 60 grams per day. I was able to raise my protein amount a bit within my shake by using unflavored protein powder with milk and adding one packet of Diet Hot cocoa mix which has 2 grams of protein.
  14. My nutritionist has me drinking 4 8oz protein shakes a day and 6oz of soup and then 4-8oz of yogurt I'm 2 protein shakes in today a yogurt and a soup it's 4:15 and I'm starving today's the first day since Tuesday I'm not on any pain killers either, is this normal?
  15. I'm officIally on my 3 week foods tomorrow. I have no idea how to get my self on a schedule to where I'm not eating every two hours. I still need 2 protein shakes a day to get my 60g of protein in. Can someone give me an example of how to start eating right. I have tuna beans eggs grits sf pudding carrots green beans yogurt applesauce and bananas. I'm so confused. I also haven't lost a pound since I had my surgery on 4/27. HELP!!!!

    Unjury

I got my UNJURY on Thursday. I have yet to mix it and try it. I have yogurt and fruit. This is where I will start. I got 10 unflavored and 4 chicken Soup to start. Surgeon said to just try them out and see what my stomach will tolerate prior to actually needing to do liquid diet. I know they promote Advantage? They have a discount code. And seemed the Vitamins on there looked doable with the flavor options and chewable.

    What is in YOUR "SnackBag"?

@@AussieSam I consider that hard boiled egg your 'snack bag'. Just cuz it fits in a snack bag doesn't mean your snacking all the time. I use and prepare in advance small amounts of food in a snack bag as well. Often what is in that snack bag is my meal. I favor mixed nuts, different varieties, or crumbled cheese. I plan on roasting some chick peas this weekend - 8 grams Protein per 1/4 c. which is more than almonds. I travel around to different locations for my work and keep a cooler full of Water bottles, diet lipton green tea, a prepared bottle of Premier Protein and small (measured) mounts of food. Greek yogurt, also with either almonds or high protein mixed granola in a snack bag to mix in.

    Diet Plan after the stages

No meal/diet plan here. Just got my Protein in first and then added in veggies, fruit and whole grains as I could tolerate. Always just ate whatever looked and tasted good.....chicken, crab, burger, pork loin, steak, ham, sausage, bacon, elk, eggs, fish, cheese, Greek yogurt, spinach, squash, green Beans, beets, avocados, mushrooms, tofu, beans, Peanut Butter, Brussel sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, apples, pineapple, bananas, melons, tomatoes, lentils, Kashi Go Lean, Bob's 10grain hot Cereal,.... Check out the nutrition subforum on here for ideas. World according to eggface and bariatric foodie are both websites with good recipes.
  19. You're 6 weeks out? You should be getting your protein at this point from mainly food anyway. Lean meats (ground beef, chicken, pork, seafood) Greek yogurt, eggs, cheese are all good sources for you at this point. Just introduce some meat slowly to see how your tummy handles it. Make sure chicken is moist, if it's too dry it can feel "stuck" sometimes. Hope that helps!
  20. Well now that I have been given the OK to start eating different foods if I can tolerate them, I am having trouble finding different meal plans. I want to plan out my meals for work but I have been finding a hard time finding diet plans and meal ideas for post surgery. Anybody have any suggestions on meal plans or maybe apps or websites with ideas. Thanks guys FYI right now i eat a lot of tuna (im almost sick of it), I eat hummus, I drink my Protein, I will sometimes eat Soup. for some reason my body doesnt like yogurt and it doesnt like eggs anymore.

5 Weeks Post Op Food and Travel Advice

At 5 weeks I was on soft foods. eggs black/pinto Beans soups yogurt cheese moist meats (with sauces...slow cooked) tuna Peanut Butter cottage cheese ricotta cheese cooked veggies w/o skin mashed potatoes/cream of wheat with Protein powder mixed in
  24. I found the smoother the better for foods. Tried ground up chicken salad, felt like a lead balloon. Mashed potatoes were not good either (I just had to try them). What is working is Greek yogurt, mashed beans. I am going to try cream of wheat tomorrow and cottage cheese tomorrow.
  25. At 5 weeks I was still having a Protein drink for Breakfast daily. Lunch/Dinner/Snack Staples that are cheap and easy: Tuna salad, Chicken salad, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, Scrambled egg with cheese, refried Beans with cheese. I found Tilipia and Flounder very easy to digest, and super quick and easy to cook in a skillet with a touch of olive oil and some seasonings. A package of turkey meatballs are very convenient as a meal or protein snack. String cheese, Laughing cow, or sliced cheese with a piece of lunch meat make a great roll-up. Beef jerky is always handy and keeps well. A boiled egg is just about the perfect size for a meal or snack at 5 weeks.
