  1. I have mentioned how hard sipping is, my crazy nausea and the fact that just looking at birth and my protein makes me gag, I think it's all mental being that I did a 3 week liquid diet, towards the end of my diet I was already feeling anxious about these foods. My doctor thinks it's totally normal that I feel this way, well yesterday I fainted and my mom thought it was because I haven't been eating or having much protein. Later on in the day she made me 1 scrambled egg, which I ate (chewed very well) only ate about half or a little more (1.50z) and it did not make me feel bad AT ALL.. I was expecting to feel sick being that I should be starting my puréed today and the scrambled egg is considered a soft food. How many of you have tried soft foods before directed and did not feel sick? I'm not planning on introducing the soft foods for another week as my plan states... merely because I'm scared to eat anything.... gosh, I'm even scared when sipping water [emoji46][emoji19].

    Sanjaya !!!!

Mark, I can never tell when you are being serious or joking--you do know that there are 2 different Howard Sterns, right? I am just hoping that since Simon actually complimented him(sort of) last week, everyone who is voting for him as a joke will stop.
  3. My doctor's office told me it would take 2 weeks to get an answer. But I needed to schedule my surgery during the December holiday break because I work at a school, So after 4 days I called my insurance company. They said the paperwork should have been submitted to my medical group not to them. So I called the doctor's office and asked for the medical group's phone number. They put me on hold for a while. Then they came back and gave me the number. I called the medical group and they looked through the faxes. They said they got the request that day. I think the doctor's office kept me on hold while they faxed it over. I asked how long it would be until a determination was made. The said 2 days. Hmmm. So had I not called, the request might have sat in my doctor's office a couple more days. Now, I was in a hurry, so I pushed it. But I'm glad it did. I am scheduled for 12-19-11.
  4. Hmmm ... yeah, you don't want to irritate someone who will then put your paperwork on the bottom of the stack ... I think you should give them at least a week ...

    August bypass friends

I decided to take a picture today, so I thought I might share photos of my current progress. I have lost 85 pounds total and am about 3 and 1/2 months post-op.

    August bypass friends

I have not had too many issues. I am afraid to eat things that are not on my Drs. List. I eat mostly meats and cheeses. I have not tried any grains, breads, pasta, veggies, or fruits. I have not really had any stalls. I still eat only 1/4 of a cup or 2 ounces of food. My energy level had just started to return. So I have just started to get back to the gym.

    Is my FEAR founded?

Yes it makes sense, I was sleeved 12/11/13. The scale has not moved in a week. I am just trying to keep up my protein and fluids. Going to start exercising soon. This forum has truly been a blessing to me so keep doing what you doing and posting for support.

    Day 7- Sweaty?

My temp was all over the place but now six weeks out I feel normal. I did have a horrible underarm smell that my doctor said was normal yuck.
  10. I was told the same thing, clear liquids first week, full solids the 2nd and 3rd week then pureed afterwards.

    Surgeon told me...

My surgeon also told me to eat slowly and for one meal I should take minimum 45 minutes (except Breakfast and snack can take at least 30 minutes) and I have 3 years to practice this so that I won't gain weight again for life. (Now I'm so afraid of the after 3 years)
  12. keep up the great work! I started ABOUT the same starting weight as you, and i'm now 10 wks out (tomorrow). i vividly remember hitting the ONe-derland mark, but stalled just before i got there. now the scale has been steadily moving nicely and this morning i hit the 180's! hang in there and work your program, it will happen!!

    So close to ONEDERLAND!

I was also sleeved on July 23. Stalled at 197lbs. Starting weight ideas 227lbs. I am happy but wish The scale would drop a little quicker.
  14. I am so close , I can taste it. I was sleeved on July 23rd. Weight loss has been a little slower for me but my Dr says that patients that start out where I did usually go slower & not hot get discouraged. I've been trying on old clothes and have been so excited to see what fits and what's agree too big! My husband and I are going to a wedding in a couple weeks and I can't wait. So glad keeping Ll those dresses I was hoping to fit in again paid off. Just thought I'd share a happy post

    2 Weeks Out...

Hi everyone, today I had my two week post-op. They removed 50 staples (from roux en y and hernia repairs) and I am at 24 lbs down since starting my journey with this in May. This seems to be about the average, right ???

    struggling everyday

Thanks for the encouragement you guys. I had done pretty well the past few days but kinda blew it today. I've talked to my family about having things like crackers around. I have a 2 year old in the house and all of her snacks are appetizing. I gained 2 pounds after a 4 day stall. I have yet to meet my protein goal. I'm really suffering from a lack of variety. I've decided tomorrow to go find a cook book and start to change my menu enough that I don't break down at the end of the night and eat cheese its!
  18. Girlfriend, I was you 6 weeks ago. I felt like I lost my best friend, I no longer had food to help me cope with life's stress. I cried too. But trust me it gets way better. You get your energy back, you start trying on clothes you haven't worn in years and when you see the results it's amazing. I don't crave nearly as much as I used to. And you will get to eat against. The first month is the hardest I think. Just stay positive and remember why you got banded. Good luck.
  19. Today I've been banded 7 days and feeling better physically. But my emotions are all over the place. I'm beginning o see the pants get loose and the jackets zipping up easier than a week ago. But I'm mentally so hungry. I actually cried on my way to work today because I realized it's Friday and I won't be able to hang out with my family because I can't eat yet. I mean, technically I could hang out with them, but I don't want to be around food I can't have. I know it sounds selfish and childsh, but it's like this huge part of my lifestyle has been removed and I don't know what to do with myself. When lunch hour comes at work, I just sit there and continue working, just a week ago I used to go with coworkers for lunch and enjoy myself. Now i'm duckng my head whenever someone is eating. And if that wasn't bad enough, my mind is torturing me, I keep thinking about chewing my favoirte meal. This must be what drug addicts go through. I know that this is ultimately good for me, but no amount of talking to your doctor prior to surgery can prepare you for these days.

    Dressing to be changed, scared!

Hey, you were right! It didn't hurt one bit! I only had one of the 5 dressings changed as they all looked good and the nurse was more worried she's introduce infection by fiddling with them. Back next week for clips out :/

    Port Pain After Fill

I had a fill last week and it was hard for my dr. to find the "spot" so she kind of dug around to find the port. I had to go back in for a .5 unfill in the afternoon. I was sore for 2 days but now it is fine. I had circular bruise as well. I feel ok and this fill is WORKING!!!!
  23. The giant sucking sound of Mexican Medical Tourism By Dana Blankenhorn | April 30, 2010, 7:25 AM PDT 15 Comments more + While most headlines about Mexico involve immigration or drugs, there is another giant sucking sound coming from our south. That’s the sound of medical tourism dollars. (Shown is the Atlantic Health International Hospital in Mazatlan, from the Mexico Buyers Guide blog.) Last week the Institute of the Americas hosted a conference in La Jolla, near San Diego, about the topic. The Deloitte Center for Medical Solutions predicted a surge in Mexican medical tourism with the end of the recession. Many Americans already get their drugs in Mexico — there are 345 pharmacies near the Tijuana border alone — but now we’re talking about real procedures. Baby boomers especially are being targeted. The La Jolla Light covered the event, noting that an angioplasty costing up to $80,000 in San Diego could cost one-tenth as much across the border. The reason is the same one fruit pickers use in taking Mexican workers — cost. A nurse who makes $75,000 here may make $12,000 there, and malpractice rates are low, too. Of the nearly 1 million Americans who went to Mexico for medical care last year, about half were not Mexican immigrants. UPDATE: The figure from the La Jolla Light article is 952,000 traveling to Mexico for care. The article also notes there are 1 million American retirees now living in Mexico, getting regular care from Mexican doctors. A lot of privately-owned hospitals are now being built in Mexico to meet American demand, with state of the art facilities. Medical Tourism Corp. adds that in addition to cost savings, some procedures that are new or not-yet approved in the U.S. are commonplace there. The Joint Commission International accredits medical tourism facilities, and Health-Tourism.com lists eight major facilities there that are accredited. The site also offers a price comparison, noting that many common procedures cost 50-75% less there, and the savings on heart operations there are really spectacular. I wrote here in 2008 about how Mexican medical tourism was growing more organized, and last year about how companies that self-insure risk are encouraging patients to travel, sharing the savings with them. Maybe that giant sucking sound Ross Perot heard years ago was just coming from a dentist’s chair.
  24. @KateBruin I do that. I have tons of pillows. I guess it’s not an abnormal thing. I thought it was maybe my mattress but it’s only 3 years old and cost more $$ than I want to admit. Lol. Maybe as time goes my body will adjust to having less padding.

    Eating In Front Of Others

I would encourage you to skip the first get together since you will be just newly sleeved, but after that I would recommend you have soup and bring some type of pudding dessert dish to share. The next month you would be on to purees, blended food and you could just say you're not very hungry (feeling under the weather). This would get you to about 8 weeks out now and you are pretty much on solids at that point. Then you could just tell your family you are really watching your portions and exercising. The truth is...this will be very hard to keep a secret from your family. I would say you are probably going to need to find a way to tell them in your own time on your own terms. Just my 2 cents....
