  1. I wish I could give you a set answer, but there really isn't one. Some feel it right away, like I do. Others it can take days or even a week or two. My stomach has an immediate reaction to being "messed with". I know right away. This is good and bad. I had restriction just from having the band placed (good), but also become a little tight during times of stress (bad). This also means, that barring any problems, my band will last me for years, because it isn't anywhere close to being full. After almost 18 months, I STILL only have a total of 2ccs in mine. Do you have any restriction now? If so, you may want to consider doing the smaller amount they suggest. The worst thing you can do is rush restriction and become too tight in the process. This will depend on how often your dr will give you fills and the number that are included in your surgery cost. If they don't restrict you to the time frame or number of fills, I would definitely go slower and go every two weeks until it is "just right". Take it as slow as you have the patience for...Good luck!

    I Got Unfilled Today...

I have a similiar story. My band had shifted down so they took half my fluid out. Ugh, right before Christmas! I went back last week and they gave me half of what they took out before. I haven't noticed a big difference and am mad at myself for being greedy in the first place and getting a fill when it wasn't absolutely necessary. I guess it's a learning process so hang in there Suzahhn.
  3. I had a c-section at midnight and was out of bed at 10 a.m. that morning and walking down to the nursery. I was back at work a little over 2 weeks later (teaching elementary school). Lap band surgery one morning, back to work half day the next day and then full-time after that. On a scale of 1 to 10 for pain....c-section was about a 6....lapband 1. Pain may be too strong of a word. It was more an uncomfortableness. I never filled my pain meds. Now, talk to me about paper cuts though. Those are a 10. .
  4. Just did it 3 days a week. There were times I thought I for sure would have to repeat weeks, but I never did. Don't be afraid to repeat if you need to though, whatever you need to do to finish it. You will feel so accomplished!
  5. Yep, I started it about 2 weeks post op as well. It's an amazing program. I finished it, and am now training for a half marathon. Ran 4 miles last week and could have kept going. Love couch to 5 K!
  6. I LOVE it and got a bunch of my friends and family hooked too! Its simple and started out doing 3 days per week. I try and get to 4 days p/w and do the day 3 on that fourth day. I have been stalled at week 5 for a couple of weeks but now I am on week 6 tomorrow at 5am. I have my 5k next months so I am commited for the next 4 weeks to RUN the whole thing. wish me luck!! Any suggestions on what a tight bander can eat while training?? Thanks!@@
  7. Wow that is so inspiring! Thankyou. Would you only do the three times a week as recommended or would you do more?
  8. I've completed program twice and have run 2 5ks . I have never ran even for exercise in my life. Started week ago to do program over and flared my allergies so I have to revamp. I loved the way my body looked when program completed and myetabolism improved
  9. I was just thinking about starting that too! I have never been a runner and i am 3 weeks post op and want to get started on a workout plan!

I'm freakin out! Please help! ASAP!

I went into A-Fib in Sept, and was hospitalized for a week, doctors had to reboot my heart, and then I had a monitor (not pacemaker) put in, soon after my BP was dropping a lot, and someone told me to drink alot of H2O, which brings it back up. My cardiologist cleared me 2 weeks after getting out of the hospital, so don't worry, like happymom said, just calm down. I couldn't do the treadmill because of Ra, Osteo, and bursitis, so they put me on a machine, and gave me a needle that actually makes your heart rate go up. But just relax, you will be fine.

    Question

Hi Everyone This is my first time message so I wasn't sure where to post it, but I figured I would try here. Long story short I was banded at the end of July. I had a lower BMI and have lost 40 pounds so far and am more than half way to my goal. I had to have two revision surgeries due to excessive burping, which has been fixed due to a new band (so thankful!). I had the realize band put in a little over a month ago. These past few days I have been experiencing severe port pain. It is very difficult to bend over and go from sitting to standing or visa versa. If I even move the wrong way a little bit I get a very painful twinge. I know it is common to be uncomfortable with the realize band port in the beginning, I just wanted to know if anyone has had an onset of more severe pain a few weeks after. I did see my surgeon today and he does not seem to be concerned about it. He checked for infection and said that I don't seem to have one, but obviously to come back if I develop any of the symptoms (I already had an infection so I know what to look for). He also said that my body is healing from the three surgeries in a short period of time. I trust him completely and I do think it is my body just getting used to the hooks in the muscle, but was hoping to hear from someone that had a similar experience and has advice as to how to make it feel a little better because it is pretty painful. My other question was to see if anyone had any granulation tissue at the incision site. After the third surgery I had an infection. After it went away I noticed a hard scab on my bellybutton. Once the scab came off I realized that I had what looked like a hard sac of Fluid covering my bellybutton. The doctor put silver nitrate on it and said it was granulation tissue that had pushed out through the incision. He said the silver nitrate only works in 30% of patients and that if it didn't work it would have to be removed. I was so nervous because I did not want to have anymore procedures. Luckily I went back today and it has reduced so much. The doctor put more of the silver nitrate on and said to monitor it, but it should disappear. I just wanted to know if anyone else had granulation tissue at the incision site because I have searched through the threads and haven't really found anyone that has. Sorry for the randomness of the questions. I am in grad school and don't really have anyone else to relate to about this. I just want to be back to myself as soon as possible and really appreciate any advice or helpful info anyone has Thanks!

    Expected Weight Loss?

As far as my mini goals, I just looked at other people on here and how fast they lost after surgery and tried to come up with something reasonable. I assume I'll lose 7 or 8 lbs during 2 week liquid pre-op. That means I would need to lose about 10 lbs in the first month to get to my onederland goal. My next goal is 23 lbs in 3 more months, that may be too aggressive....I am typically a slow loser. But I'm not going to get too hung up on that.....I set the goals for it to be fun, not so I can get down if I don't quite make it that fast. I have hope and that sustains me.

    Pre Surgery Diet

Mine was at 40 when I started and he still ha me do the 2 weeks. I think with him there is no exception! He had one patient who didn't follow the diet and her liver was big and broke...he said it was a mess. Don't know if it's true or he is just scaring people to follow their diet lol.
  14. Once I put my mind to something, I mean really put my mind to it, I'm beyond tenacious. Can you say BULL DOG?? Seeing the obstacle course before me (compliments of the evil insurance fairies), I've bitten, chewed up and am about to swallow the bullet. Yep, swung by Fort Knox and abracadabra'd the gold bars then handed them off to the Doc and will do the same with the hospital later this week. My journey has now gone from building my go-kart to a funny car extravaganza. Ladies and Gentlemen, my engine is revved, ripped and ready to roll. Can't believe how quickly those obstacles were removed once the leprechaun showed up with the pot o' gold. Good thing I am so very, very worth it. Did I mention that I'm worth it? You bet I am. All the preop hoop-dee-doo is scheduled and it looks like I may be that slinky sleevette by mid-May...... I am so blown away by how quickly this came about -- in the span of 4 hours -- unbelieveable, but so incredibly surreal. I'm sure as I get closer, my fraidycat-mind twin will start beating on me with the "Do you KNOW what you're doing?" "There's no turning back!" "What if..." But, for now I'm ready with my responses: "YES!!!", "I know", and "FMT, shut the h*ll up, I got this one..." YAY ME. Never thought I'd be doing mental gymnastics over "Hey doc, would you please cut up and throw away part one of my EXTREMELY vital parts (a vital vital part) and then charge me an arm and leg for the priviledge." Crazy? you betcha! Happy? over the moon!
  15. My surgery is next week.. and yesterday I had my final appt with my surgeon to discuss surgery day and any questions I had. I finally broke down, and cried Might I add that my surgeon is BEYOND cute... which made it worse! He was discussing surgery day and said that after the operation was over he would go out and talk to my family and friends and let everyone know how it went. . . only my family is back East, and I dont have that many friends who actually offered to be there waiting It really just makes me sad.. I never thought about that part I guess. I feel like im going at this alone..and it sucks. Im also a little worried about remembering ALL THESE RULES after surgery .. I feel like Im going to have to keep my info packet next me so I can read what Im supposed to do everyday. Does this part get easier as days go by?? Also .. i have been thinking about all the foods that are no longer going to be in my diet. Am i NEVER going to be able to have a slice of pizza again? or a burger? I kinda thought that maybe eventually i could have these things, but of course extremely smaller amounts, way less often. Any input is appreciated
  16. That's an amazing recovery I am nearly 2 weeks out however still on liquid. I noticed your eating solids is this allowed by your doc

    4 Year Anniversary!

I was at 218 or so and am at 160. My lowest weight was about 143....I am tall so I am good with 145, not 160! I had my surgery on a Thursday, went back to work on Monday because I sit behind a desk all day and don't have to lift anything. I only lasted 1/2 a day but was back full time on Tuesday. I would ask your doctor though. The surgery was not painful at all, just the beginning to eat and drink was difficult for a while and you get kind of weak so if I did heavy lifting, etc, I would probably take off a couple of week at most. It all depends on how you feel really. I have ZERO regrets, it was the easiest thing I ever did really and I was not scared one bit. Being "normal" feels great but takes some getting used to....now I will work on the 15 pounds so that I can fit into my size 4's..... Ü
  18. I was banded Nov 27th. All was going well until last week friday when I woke up and noticed that the last scab from my port incision had came off and the site was full of puss. I immediately call my local physician and went in. I was put on antibiotics for 10 days. Well, tonight is my last dose and am just not sure....it looks better and is no longer oozing, however it is still red and the site is "scabbed over" and the scab is yellow. Am I being a worry-wort? or should I go back in? If it was any other site, I would not be as worried, but this is my port. I am scared to even make an apt for a fill until this is all taken care of. Any advise is appreciated. Thank You yyev

    Just joined and need input!!

Lots of information is here on this website. Your description of emotions and past pain with weight issues is very well written. Good luck in your search for the right physician to meet your needs. I'll see my surgeon for consultation on Wednesday this week and I'm eager to set the date. Best wishes for your success.
  21. You say these are guy friends. Well, I think they most likely think of you as "one of the guys". You probably fitted into that role to begin with because you were hiding behind the fat. We all do it. Problem is, they can see you've changed, but they haven't changed the way they see you. You are still one of the guys to them. Have you changed the way you see yourself? Do you see yourself as one of their pals? You need to work on yourself inside first. People will respond to you the way you expect them to. You give off vibes to everyone you meet about who you think you are and how you think you should be treated. So you lost weight, what else have you done? Have you done anything to pamper yourself yet? Do you think you deserve to be pampered? If not, why not? Take a bubble bath, get some nail polish and do those toes! Work on your inside first. Then don't hang around the guys for a few weeks. Might be hard, but keep away from them. Get yourself a sexy FEMININE little outfit and then call a few and arrange to go out clubbing with them. Taking a break for a few weeks will allow them to see the change when you meet back up. A new clothing style and a new setting to see it in, will help them see you differently. Going to a club will allow men who don't know you to approach you, but you will feel safe because you have your buds there. One of these guys may not ask you out, but they may have a mate you don't know, so changing their mind this way could lead to other things later. And certainly, ask a guy out. I've done the asking my whole adult life. That way I got to pick the guy. Mind you, I've always been big and I've never had a problem getting a date, but like I said earlier, it was to do with my attitude to myself.
  22. I would ask him/her what are there procedures are when they put the band in. What type of bands are they using? Ask about your Meds that you are taking and if you have to change any after surgery. How long it will take him to get stuff in for the insurance company? Diet plans for the 1st 6 weeks after surgery, what you can and canot do. I hope that this helps you out. Chris
  23. My first fill I had 3cc's and didn't really feel much of anything. My ins. only covers a fill every six weeks so I have to wait. Going next week for the second fill and hoping that makes a difference. I know you are not supposed to get that pain after two or three bites though, sounds like you are overfilled. Sometimes I don't think I have any restriction and then I eat something and I do--it depends on what I'm eating. You should definitely call your doctor though. Good luck

    Ughh..

I've stalled too. Lost 20 lbs in the first 8 days and then . . . nothing. It's now day 17 and still nothing. But thanks to all of your comments on this thread and others, I know that this is common and temporary. Can't wait for the loss to resume. By the way, how do all of you get that weight loss ticker on your posts? I go to the but cannot figure out how to do it. Something about a pin number, but how do I get that?
