    Second thoughts...

I have to tell you, there was no way I could last on the pre op diet of shakes either that we had, I spoke with the nutritionist for my doc and we agreed that I would follow the cals for the day but could do it with real food instead since I didn't like to eat a bunch of chemicals anyway plus knowing that just drinking would so not fill me up, so a typical day had oatmeal (plain) raspberries, best life yogurt with kashi, apples and string cheese and lean cusines. Our limit was 775cals, I did more like 1100 a day, lost 15lbs pre op and also walked to ensure the loss. Good luck, maybe consider the idea of real food instead of shakes, just get through this short while before surgery and you'll be ok.
  2. If you like yogurt and you have a Kroger around you, they have yogurt called Kroger Carbmaster. It is pretty good and has on 3 grams of sugar and 60-80 calories. I really like it and sometimes add a pack of Stevia to sweeten it up. It's a great snack!
  3. I was banded two days before you and am also on mushies. I find that yogurt and cottage cheese are good for protein but aren't that filling. My dr allows us to have fish and tuna. I find that tuna salad fills me up immediately. I had 3cc put in during surgery but I still find that I am hungry. My 1st fill is scheduled for 5/9.

Why is banding so frowned upon?

I've just had a bowl of muesli with some sliced mango and a dollop of greek yogurt for Breakfast (oh and about 3 coffees since I've been up). Today for lunch, I've got some leftover chicken from the other night (just marinated breast meat which we barbecued) and I'll make a salad to chop that into - lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red peper, onion and my obsession lately - salad sprinkles (sesame seeds and nuts) and lots of avocado. I love avocados, live on them. I'm doing a circuit in a little while after I've dropped my kids off at school, after a hard workout (I tend to burn 6 or 700 calories at a time) I try to have something with Protein and a high GI carb like a banana smoothie - some skim milk, a banana, some vanilla essence, we've got an entire tray of mangoes at the moment that we need to eat up so I might throw some more in that. dinner tonight we're having shepherd's pie - that's a mix of leftover roast lamb in a tomato/worcestershire sauce kind of thing, I always chuck in kidney Beans, left over roast veges such as onions, pumpkin and leftover peas, carrots and beans, then you top it all with mashed potato, sprinkled cheese and bake. Sometime this afternoon, I'll probably have something a bit naughty like a cookie or two with a cuppa, I usually do. That's a normal day for me, a couple of types of fruit, a few different veg, protein at lunch and dinner (I rarely eat protein breakfasts, cant stomach it in the morning, I need a carb hit) a small treat, some exercise..... Sounds a lot but its all pretty small quantities - no more than about 3/4 of a cup at a time.

I need Help!!Unfill or not to Unfill

I was just about to post saying that I think I was overfilled & what should I do about it...then I saw your post! I got filled 6 days ago & can only get down liquids. I sometimes can get down yogurt but yesterday I tried to eat a little cottage cheese, chewing very good, but it got stuck. I am not loosing any weight either...not really sure why. I know I have been under 500 calories for 6 days. Any advice on if we should get unfilled or not would be great! How long does it take for everything to get back to normal so I can see my true restriction. Thanks all!!!

    venting -- emotional rollar coaster

I totally understand the worry about whacking off a big part of your stomach. However... I call my former stomach "the gunnysack." It was just a huge, shapeless blob that held as much as I stuffed into it. It was always hungry, it would happily make room for whatever I stuffed into my face, and it wasn't doing me any favors health wise. What I have now is a trim purse that can only hold the important stuff, and so all the junk gets left out. I can't overeat without feeling horrible, and so it's sort of a behavior modifier for me. Fried foods now make me nauseous, sweets look disgusting, and I've found that what makes my little purse happiest is small amounts of Protein. Dessert is some yogurt with stewed prunes, which sounds like a nursing home special, but actually tastes like creme fraiche aux prunes Armagnac. Life is, in short, insanely good!
  7. I think I had too much for supper last evening. I had 5 ounces of greek yogurt and about 1/2 hour later I had a protein shake. About 1/2 hour after that my stomach felt too full. It felt hard and distended. That happened to be once before about a week ago and it went away fairly quickly. However I woke up this morning still feeling like my stomach was too full (again hard and distended). I have a call into the doctor but haven't heard back yet. Has anyone ever felt this way?

    Protein???

I think it's good, especially blended with fruit or yogurt. It's fine straight, just a little bland. No bad taste to it at all. I only know of on line places to get it. Here's one: http://www.nextag.com/micellar/search-html As for signing up, I'm the only North American agent for signing up for Micellar Milk. I've got you down on the list now, so you are officially signed up. :heh:
  9. Try frozen yogurt, they make some really yummie flavors and it's easy on the tummy, I'm almost 5 weeks out and I haven't found anything that I can't eat yet.

Any photos of "plated" food portions?

At your stage, best thing to do is measure your portions. Never eyeball, or you might find your portions creep up which can slow your losses. 3 Tablespoons at the absolute max for your stage of purees, or up to 4 ounces of more liquidy foods like yogurt or soup. Hope this helps!
  11. Hi Lily, I typically start my day with a meal replacement and milk. It is about 200 calories with 25 grams of protein. I then move onto foods like tuna salad 1/3 to 1/2 cup. I can't eat more than 1/2c to 1 c of food at a time. I snack on yogurts and almonds (just a small hand full). I then proceed to eat a little protein and maybe some vegies at dinner. I can eat salad better than most foods but eating stuff like raw broccoli for example really fills me up fast. Hope this information is helpful.
  12. I'm another week on liquids and then have two more weeks on puree. I'm looking for what you guys ate (drank!) during the liquid post op.........and what you ate during the puree two weeks. I want some variety to make is easier to follow.......and maybe that's not possible...... Now, during liquid stage I'm having Soup, Protein Shakes, SF popsicles, yogurt and jello.....any other ideas? Any interesting ideas during the puree stage? Thanks for your help and support! Caroline
  13. My Dr. is the same as yours...3 weeks liquid, 3 week pureed, then solids. My appt is 09/26 so he says he might allow me to switch to solids 1 week sooner. I did start eating Yogurt this past Thursday and the 1st time I ate it it cramped me terribly and I got really really scared I'd caused harm. But since then I've had 1 yogurt per day and a yogurt smoothie and it has not hurt me. Now this is all under the supervision of my Dietician of whom I called Wednesday to see if there was anything else I could eat other than the standard broth, Jello.....etc and this is what she told me to add. I will admit on yesterday my granddaughter had a baked potato and I tasted a small tiny bite. I didn't feel any funny sensations but have not made it a habit since. You might want to try some Chinese Hot & Sour Soup (or wonton) and skim the juice off of it (I do Water it down somewhat). At least it gives you a bit of a spicy taste and it has 100 calories and 2 grams of fat (in my case less than that since I dilute it). This has really really helped me. I was told to put something in me at least every 2 hours and I shouldn't have a problem and it has worked when I followed that advice. I don't want to end up in Bandster Hell so I'm trying to be as good as possible. I am so counting down til Thursday when I can have some refried Beans....yum yum. I noticed some can have baked fish and I didn't know that was considered pureed but I'll ask my Dietician about it. I hope you continue to do well and hang it there. Rumar
  14. I've been told all the same--it's the full thing--drinking will trick you into thinking you're full when you're really not. I hate it too...actually I'm having trouble not drinking during my "meals" (which right now are only yogurt, pudding or malt o meal) but then I forget to drink water at other times!! Hang in there...it will all become clear. Keep asking questions!!!
  15. I was also banded on 4/7. I had trouble sleeping as well. I will be so glad when I can sleep on my side and stomach again. Still a bit sore and trying not to over do anything. I have to be on a liquid diet for 10 days then mushies for 4 weeks. I have lost 5 pounds so far. I have been eating tomato soup and creamy chicken soup I have had some yogurt and some sugar free pudding and 2 sugar free popsicles. Along with 2 Protein drinks I make it in a blender with ice and it tastes like choclate icecream. 4 oz of skim milk 1 scoop of the powder add some ice and blend. mmm mmm. I wish everyone the best of luck and you begin your new journey.

Any new toys for after weight loss?

Funny thing is I liked my old fashioned looking but updated oster beehive blender. (Still just flip one switch) But haven’t used it at all since surgery. I found it added too much air to the blend. And it was easier to just hand mix (PEScience select) protein powder and put in the fridge around 20 minutes or so before drinking and mix again (thickens it) either that or get RTD. I also like protein shots. Though now if I have protein powder I mix It with yogurt. Cuisinart is a great brand so you got a steal of a deal. Factory remanufactured can be better it undergoes more inspections. I wish we had a place in our kitchen for one of those.

    Breakfast ideas please

mmmm greek yogurt (has lots of protein) with fruit and a bit of granola is my favorite breakfast. I agree with IndioGirl also... you dont have to eat breakfast foods for breakfast. Try leftovers from dinner... chicken and veggies in an omelet is yum!

    Finally...november 6Th Sleevers!

Hi Denise your still on soft foods? I am currently on Phase III one week from Phase 4. Currently I still drink my Protein shakes. Breakfast, I will either do a Protein shake, or 1 egg scrambled soft with cheese and a morning star sausage pattie (10gm of protein). I try to get in milk as well since it's 8 gm of protein. If I have to have a snack I do yogurt. lunch I stick to any type of fish, chicken salad, turkey burger etc... dinner same thing but I try to incorporate a veggie like broccoli, green Beans, squash, sweet potato etc.. Good luck on your journey it gets easier and the sooner you start eating regular food the more your sleeve will start to tolerate it and the better you will be. Also the quicker you will start loosing, currently I am doing about 1 to 2lbs a week and i am happy with that.
  22. On Monday I will be moving on to the next stage in the post op lapband diet stage 4 ( soft foods) My diet now consists of 1 Protein shake in the morning, a greek yogurt for lunch and a Protein Shake for dinner. I have been averaging about 1 lb weight loss a day and im nervous that when I move on to soft foods that I won't keep losing. so I guess Im curious as to what you ate for your soft foods and did you still use a protein shake for one of your meals? Did you keep losing?

Thank heavens because I can't choke down another piece of lettuce.... Lol....I an on day 7 of 14.... I'll be starting life again next Thursday!!!! I'm ready!!!!!!!!!!
  24. This was my post opt diet - as you can see I was ok to eat cream of wheat and grits........not mashed potatoes until week three....go figure that one?????? isn't Cream of Wheat harder than mashed potatoes? Anyhow.........hope this helps :cursing: Day of Surgery and day after - Clear Liquids First 2 weeks - Full Liquids (High Protein shakes, yogurt, milk, pudding, custard, strained soup, Cream of wheat, grits, Cream of Rice, tomato juice) Weeks 3 & 4 - Soft foods (cottage cheese, eggs, canned chicken, tuna, or turkey, shaved deli meats, soft beans, oatmeal, mashed or boiled potatoes with no skins, canned fruit, well-cooked tender vegetables. Week 5 - Solid foods  regular textured introducing one new food at a time and monitor tolerance.
  25. I was banded on the 10th and only had to do clear liquids for 3 days now I am on full liquids till week three......you always need to follow your doctors orders but I am allowed cream soups, pudding and nothing thicker than yogurt.......call them and ask if you can go to full liquids...the tomatoe soup shouldn't be a problem it is approved on my diet but the cheese..... Just pick yourself up, forget about it, don't let it happen again and go back on plan, we can do this! Before we could have something off plan and just have "fallen off the wagon" but this time we could do possible damage to our band.......
