on pre op diet and craving a meal!
Healthier2day1227 replied to sheree212's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I so relate to this thread! My doc gave me a three week liquid diet for pre op-insanity! I am on day 4 and was hoping it would be getting easier but it's not. My salvation is organic chicken broth at zero calories and fills me up a bit. Also drinking a lot of water. I've just been trying to give myself a pep talk about how important the liver shrink is. -
3 weeks out
Sleeveless in seattle replied to Susan Beckman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've lost 12 sizes in 3 weeks?!?! I am 4 weeks today. What you're eating sounds similar to mine except I am also doing protein shakes. They really help with the energy. Hang in there; it will get better. -
3 weeks out
Susan Beckman replied to Susan Beckman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes i have seen him twice because I had complications. I had a feeding tube for a week and have had fainting spells. Also lots of abdominal pain but he just looks at me funny and says he doesnt think its surgery related. So I go to ER and told them surgeon doesnt think its surgery related and get told that noone will touch me because I just had this surgery. So I am sooo screwed. This was the worst mistake of my life. -
Hi Stacyann, My surgery was on June 30, 2014 and while I was not outwardly nervous the day I had surgery, my blood pressure said something totally different! I have never had high blood pressure at all, but the day of my surgery when they checked, it was 204! Little beepers went off! I realized I was internally scared, but had only found bariatric pal two days before my surgery. After about 5 minutes of deep breathing and telling myself that so many people I knew had surgery with the Dr. I had also chosen, my blood pressure came down to 130/74 and I got a hold of myself! I had a drain and it did not bother me, but the last day it began to be a little sore. I had stopped taking pain meds and it was not painful - just sore. Because I was checking out that day they took it out. I took a deep breath, clenched my tummy muscles and it was a breeze when they took it out. No pain. The drain hole healed up very quickly, too! 7 days after surgery it was healed and is the size of a pencil eraser. My surgeon used an anesthetic pack for my stomach. It was a pouch that I wore around my neck and two little bitty (and I mean super tiny) tubes delivered anesthetic directly to my stomach during my hospital stay. So I really felt very little, if any pain after surgery. Once I came home, other than needing a nap in the afternoons and trying to make sure I walked, I really have had no pain. When I did have pain I found it was from becoming lactose intolerant - a very common issue after surgery. Lactose free milk is just plain gentler on your stomach and once I switched, it has been great. I am due for my 2 week post op appointment in 5 days and other than drinking shakes for meals, I don't feel like I have had surgery. No pain, no discomfort. I know everyone's different, but I want you to know the my truth. I also had many friends and family praying for me and that feeling surrounded me as I took comfort in knowing I was cared for. Keep asking questions and know that we are all in this together. (No high school musical song pun intended!) Lissa

Wow that is awesome! Did you also do liquids pre-op? Congrats! I am down 11 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks and pleased with that as it combines with 18 pounds pre-op. -

1 month post op and kind of disappointed
Little Chickadee replied to mtodd1205's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are not alone. I am 4 weeks out and have lost 19lbs since surgery. The doctors told me I will lose about 10-14lbs the first week but that didn't happen. I get frustrated occasionally but I am trying to remain focused and trust the process. I really did have this illusion that the weight would start falling off. Not so much! -
Can No Longer Stand The Taste Of Water!
BentleyJade replied to girlfriday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad I'm not the only one! It hurts going down and its just not the same refreshing water like it use to be. Its kinda sad..I use to enjoy a cold bottle of water but not anymore. I even try room temperature and it still hurts. Crystal light scratches my throat so I don't know. Hopefully this will get better, seeing that I'm only 3 weeks post op. -

YES we are all so different! I am one that is a SLOW loser and it is taking me longer becasue I am not so hard on myself I "fail" alot but I get back up and march on. I am glad my trasnsitioning is taking time in 10 months I have only lost 60lbs but you know what I am fine with that...just this last appointment and 2 months down not needing a fill the doctor said I was a perfect stastic 2lbs a week the norm I'll take it! good luck the rest of your journey!!! -
Went potty in regular stall, not handicapped! Those handicapped stalls are so nice and roomy. (I don't feel bad about using the handicapped stall at work, no one uses them here) :clap2:

My Doctor recommended them so I would imagine they are okay. But I was told not to rely on them daily. Maybe twice a week, but nothing more than that.

IBS-D & what surgery did you chose
Samantha T replied to Samantha T's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr said that after I finish the six months it usually takes a month for the insurance to approve it and then a few weeks more for the surgery. So I'm guessing about mid May hopefully! Sent from my moto e5 plus using BariatricPal mobile app -
Sometimes I don't think I will ever get this right!
patsal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my Dr. appointment yesterday. I lost a pound since the last visit (5 weeks). It was very busy as they had to fit all the afternoon patients in in the morning because the PA wasn't going to be able to do the pm appointment. Well I talked to the PA in training, and she seemed nice enough but still asked questions that were really odd to me--like if my hypertension was better---umm yup I am fat, but no I don't have hypertension and never had, if anything my BP runs on the low side. Next she asked where I thought I was ...yelllow, green or red. I said yellow as I am always hungry and am eating off of a salad plate rather than a saucer. Shared that I get hungry between meals and that I am getting all my protien in. I asked about hair loss since it is coming out in thick gobs when I wash my hair, She told me that I wasn't really losing that much hair, it was just my imagination...seriously, you can see my scalp:sad:. When she asked about exercise I shared that I walked 2 days per week in the summer plus I go to the gym 3 times per week and do 40 minutes of cardio and about a half hour of free weights. I added that since the weather had turned rather cruddy for walking I had added an extra day of cardio. She told me that the exercise I am doing will only help me to maintain my weight and not to lose any. WTH, I didn't do much of anything before being banded. Next she told me to cut out snacking before bed...again WTH, I never eat after dinner even if I am hungry. I explained all of this and felt like she thought I was lying about what I eat and how much I exercise since there was only a 1 pound loss:mad2:. Next comes in the reg PA. She said add biotin to help with the hair loss and double check to be certain I am getting my 80 grams of protien. Said to keep exercising and add extra gym time if the walking outdoors wont work due to weather. She says lets go with a bigger fill this time, I think you need it. This sounds all good. She however decides to let PA in training do the fill...she missed the port, ok so try again, misses the port but thinks she can root around with the needle to get it in. Now I am saying ouch and have tears streaming down my face:crying:. Reg PA takes a look... umm she is off by an inch and a half, remove needle and reg PA does the fill. It is all good, but I am still hurting 24 hours later. Reg PA tells PA in training that sometimes belly fat and scar tissue can be tricky and make you think it is the port---ok may be true, but my port sticks out and you can feel it pretty easily. Plus hey I 'm right here in the room and do not need to feel like her error is my fault for being fat, heck I am here becasue I am fat! So, now I am being extra careful to do the sequence of food progression so I don't get any stuck episodes to casue extra swelling. I bought the biotin and started taking those, but I still feel like she really thought I was laying around eating twinkies. BTW inches are still melting off rapidly and I had to go out and get all mnew pants for work. Oh well at least my students are seeing a difference..."Wow, Mrs. M, you lost a TON of weight" and I'm thinking thanks, could you call my PA in training!:tt2: -

mom1980s replied to Bobthedog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Wow, that's a lot of weight to lose in so small a time. I was 321 on my surgery day and am 283 right now. So since my surgery 8 weeks ago I've lost 38 pounds. Compared to that your weight is just flying of lol. It'll probably slow down soon though so don't worry so much!

RNY 02/26/2020 HW: 440+ SW:400 Surgery Day: 373 Discharge Day: 379(Due To IV’s Im Pretty Sure) CW: 328 GW: 145 Height: 5’4 51lbs. Down in 3Weeks And 3 Days Is This Normal??? Still Not Hungry Or Thirsty No Desire To Eat The Thought Of Eating Makes Me Sick When I Force Myself To Eat, Drink A Protein Drink, Or Water It Takes A Hour Sometimes Longer. I’ve Been Dehydrated 4times Now To The Point Where I Felt Very Sick and Like I Was Gonna Faint. The Steam From The Shower Makes Me Dizzy And Lightheaded To The Point Where If I Dont Sit On The Tub For About 5Minutes I Feel Like I’ll Faint. I Tried 1 Medium Egg This Morning Scrambled Lightly To Where It Was Really Wet And Soft. It Didn’t Go Down Well And After A Few Bites It Came Right Back Up Now As I Write This Im Eating Yogurt That Ive Had For At Least 40 Minutes Now And I’ve Only Ate 3 Bites. This Is Harder Than I Thought, I’m Not Giving Up But When Will This Get Easier. I Thought I Was Prepared For This. I’ve Done So Much Research and Gathered As Much Info Over The Last Probably 6 Years Before I Made The Decision Last Year To Go Through With Surgery And Like I Said I Thought I Was Well Prepared. Has Anyone Else Went Through This In The Beginning? Im Happy With My Decision Its Just A Little Tough Right Now. Im Also Happy With The Weight Loss And 1 Non Scale Victory For Me Is How Mentally Strong I’ve Became. ⁉️CAN I SEE BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES OF PEOPLE WHO STARTED OVER 350lbs⁉️

I was on clear liquids for three days and then moved to full liquids. I am supposed to be on this for 1-2 weeks, then puréed, then soft.
-
Hello! I had by pass on the 5th, 18 days ago. I did 7 days post op of just liquids, 7 days purees and now I am on soft food. On the 4th I was 239 and after 1 week after I went down to 226. It was the 12th. Since then I didn't lose a single pound. It is a little depressing also because for me it's difficult to reach 1000 kcal a day as my surgeon told me to do.... I am pretty active and i walk every day: I don't feel like going to the gym doing cardio unless I hit those 1000 calories. Is this normal???
