    2 days to go.

Yes, diarrhea here too. I didn't have a full bm until my 5 th day post op. That worried me. I added fiber to my broths and that worked a little. I start nudge foods today. In excited that I can have yogurt.
  2. Thank you, every one of you lovely individuals! Your response is truly overwhelming for me :smile1: I jotted down every one of your great suggestions. I am calling my doctor today to see if I can go to full liquids. Up until now I didn't even realize I could try pureed/strained tomato basil bisque -- I miss tomatoes so much! I love all kinds of soups, it's been adding the Protein that made them taste horrible and not being able to get them nice and hot. I think from now on I'll keep my protein out of the soups (with some exceptions) so that I can actually enjoy them like a regular meal. Way to go Joiebean, reminding me of Won Ton soup -- one of my favorites as a kid when I was home sick with a cold or flu! The idea of getting back flavorful, savory flavors again just warms my heart. My husband and I are quite the food snobs, always organic and buying fresh from the plethora of food stands we have around us (excellent farmland for produce and fruit). I cannot wait to get into the mushy stage when I can get back to herbs and spices. It's not the quantity I want back, just the ability to TASTE fresh, delicious foods again. I love fish, love chicken, greek yogurt has been a staple in my fridge for years - so I know that stage should be a breeze for me. And we've been strong juicers for a while now, can't wait to shop again for kale and ginger! I felt horrible guilt to be complaining about something so silly as having to down vanilla, chocolate, berry, etc. type drinks -- such a small problem in the bigger picture I know. I really liked Feedyoureye's suggestion of looking at it like medicine, that really clicks with my type of thinking. I have always been highly imaginative and having visualizations works for me. To answer other questions, yes I do have a giant packet and diet plan from my doctor. But it's been a bit confusing to waddle through it all and understand HOW to improve on their suggestions. He is a great doctor, I'm incredibilty thankful to have found him and that I was one of the lucky ones who had insurance to help me out. His RN and RD are trying to help me, but I'm not the easiest person to deal with when I'm not feeling well. Yes, I take Omeprazole 20mg (PPI) every morning. The funny thing is that I suffered from not making enough stomach acid before the surgery, so I'm wondering if I really need it. But no doubt, I'll continue taking it! No problems getting in the Multivitamin, B12/Folic Acid, Calcium w/vitamin D -- all that feels very normal. I love herbal teas, they are the best part of my day. I gave up all caffiene about 6 months ago, and found myself rebounding with energy once I did. I only buy unsweetened almond milk and/or soy even prior to surgery because I had tested positive on a food allergy test for sensitivity to all cow and goat products (and eggs). The greek yogurt and some cheeses were the only things I allowed in moderation. But still, a majority of the protein is WHEY (cow) so no matter what I use, Water or dairy alternative, the whey is still problematic. I have been in the care of a wonderful psychotherapist for about a year now. I'm an A-type personality who works too much and suffers from anxiety/stress disorder, stemming from perfectionism and wanting to please everyone. So to be "down" for a week in bed, tired from regular everyday stuff like walking up and down stairs - just is not my normal self. Besides trying to "find my normal with food" I know that's been the biggest reason for my depression. I'm not used to being this weak! Yesterday, my husband and I fought while out walking and I found myself doing a good click for over a mile. That's what I usually do with stress, work it out with housework, projects or going full speed ahead like an idiot and overdoing it on the physical. Just can't sit still when I'm in a bad mood! I'm suffering a bit from that today, more sore than I was before around my abdomen. I'm listening to it and planning to go-easy today. Oh, and I should mention I'm ramping up on the PMS which is like adding dynomite to building with a raging fire. Up until about age 28, I was an atheletic, svelte 130lbs woman who lived vibrantly. But through a number of accidents and tragedies, I gained over 100lbs in one year, tacking on another 30-40 off and on over the years. At first, I just thought I could get it off myself -- but then it just didn't come off. Then the PCOS started, and that freaked me out. I continued to work 50-60 hours a week with 2+ hours of commuting by car each day, which left no time for exercise (along with injuries). A lot of people I haven't seen in 7 years don't even recognize me, that hurt. Inside, I'm still that girl that loved the 2-3 hours bike rides through the country and kayaking across lakes. I don't really care about what size I end up in, be it 12,10,8,6 -- I just want those things back in my life again. Thank you again everyone. I will reach out to those who I can work with together on this journey - mentoring or mentoree. You are all angels in my book!

    My first Ucky Day!!!!

Today I am 10 days post op and yesterday was my first Ucky day. I ate some yogurt and I suddenly felt sick to my stomach. Through all of this I have not been nauseous, constipated, or any of the other usual things. I actually went back to work a week after the surgery. Today I feel better but I am still wary so I decided to go back to my clear liquids for today and let my system calm down. I am down 12lbs so I am stoked about that. I keep saying WOW everytime I look at the scale it seems that i am losing weight everyday. Man I am going to be the cutiest thing at my brothers Christmas Party this year. I am so happy to be sleeved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Proudgrammy pretty much hit the nail on the head. Grazing throughout the day is not a good way to utilize the sleeve. The sleeve is useful only if you're using it to restrict the amount of food you can take in during your meals and then keeps you satiated longer. If you're "tricking" the sleeve by taking in more food only over a longer period of time then you're still getting high calories you're just eating all the time. Which is what you're noticing... you're eating constantly. My surgeon has me on a normal 3 meals a day with a snack or 2 if necessary. Snacks are yogurt, cheese stick, beef Jerky, etc. Low cal high Protein things. chocolate doesn't fit in to that category. I can't find any chocolate to eat (even sugar free) that is under 50 calories per piece. Try replacing those chocolates with sugar free mints or hard candies like Werthers. Like other posters have said, we're working to change the old habits. For me that included putting food in my mouth all day whenever I wanted. Now I eat 3 times a day like normal healthy people do, and I only eat during those times if I am hungry. I know it's probably not what you wanted to hear, but our goal is to help each other be successful losers. We've gone to an extreme length to drop the weight so sometimes a little tough love is sobering.

    Random thoughts from me....

Well Happy Monday everyone! If you're like me, you once again managed to manuver a whole weekend of being off your eating schedule and work out regiment in order to do the "fun" stuff you've waited a whole 5 days to do. I almost couldn't wait for Monday to get here. Well, in terms of how I am eating. The week days are so much easier for me. I can put my day's worth of food in my little pink lunch bag and not have to worry about what I can eat off this menu. I feel relief to get up at 6:30am, have my protein shake on the way to work, my 20 oz of water before lunch, a little bit of yogurt, some soup for lunch. But regardless, i'm here. And it's another Monday. This morning I stepped on the scale and much to my disappointment, the number hadn't changed from last week. The christmas challenge started and my goal was to get from 231 to 215 by December 25th and so far I'm not starting off very fast. I can't really complain though because I did slack off on exercise and I can tell you I haven't made the best of food choices. 40lbs lost since September 14th however, is still good to me. I know though in order to get to this next tier in my journey I have to buckle down and just do the damn thing. I think I'm all healed up, no pain from incisions, no intolerance to anything (other than raw almonds...bleh). Several months ago, I bought a voucher for 30 days of a fitness bootcamp off Groupon. Well the time for me to redeem it has dwindled down, so I need to get in there by this week in order to use my 30 day pass. But, i'm so scared! lol. The class is at 5:30 in the morning and I'm terrified that this trainer will kill me. I've been cleared for rigorous exercise but other than brisk walking and the elliptacle machine, I haven't been that intense. So,not only did I buy this bootcamp class, I also bought a round of 20 yoga classes that I also have to use by the end of December. So, I guess if anything, come Christmas, I'll be one in shape woman! Well, tha'ts what i'm hoping. As I'm sitting here typing I'm eating some lasagna a co-worker made for me. She's noticed the weightloss and she also noticed the lack of eating. I think she thinks I'm starving myself to get skinny lol. Bless her heart. The lasagna is awesome, but I obviously can't eat the portion that she served me, so it's going back to the fridge for later. Wednesday I'll be 2 months post-op. Just seems like time has flew by so fast. My fiance asked if I feel different and I thought about it for a while. While I am ecstatic that my weight has been dropping, I honestly don't FEEL any different. I get up on the scale and it's obviously waaaay less than it was two months ago, but for some reason my brain hasn't really caught up yet. I'm not sure when that's going to happen. The last thing I want is to be blind to the changes that have actually occurred. I want to enjoy them every step of the way. But it does feel good when he looks at me and says, wow, you are melting away. Although i can't see it myself yet, it's awesome that I hear it from someone else. I'm curious about how other people are feeling around this 2-3 month point. Are you cognitive of the differences? Do you still see the same fat you in the mirror? When does it click that your body is changing?
  6. Thanks for all the comments, i have been having, milk, fruit, and some protein powder, going to try the yogurt and other bits when i get bored, but hey hey hey dropped 2kilos since started doing this feww i was starting to worry.
  7. As others have said, you won't get enough Protein with only milk. I was supposed to boost my Protein shakes with a 1/4 cup of skim dry milk powder. Another idea to boost the protein is Greek yogurt added to you shake. I would also try to add at least a small scoop of protein powder and adjust it as you can tolerate it (that is, if you can tolerate it). Isopure is a fruit flavored Protein Drink that has 40 grams of protein/20 oz. However, you should run these ideas by your surgeon or NUT. We don't want to lead you down the wrong path, and have you end up getting sick. They may even have alternatives for you.

Ruby Reds and Shake Recipe #2

Ruby Reds are a GREAT invention, they give you a full day serving of fruits & vegtables in a small scoopful and they taste great. They were a gift to me and they've lasted quite well through my on again off again healthy fads/trends. You can put the RubyReds in anything, water, juice, etc.. I've noticed it's especially good with Berry Propel and the Healthy Balance Brand Pomergrante/blueberry/Acai blend juice. I originally found the Healthy Balance juices as an alternative for my diabetic mother, but quickly found out they taste great. Even my 9 yr old nephew likes them and has for last 2 years we've been buying them. That being said today I made my best shake yet, it tasted just like a smooth from Planet Smoothie or someplace like that... 2oz vanilla lowfat yogurt 1 scoop designer whey french vanilla protein powder 1 scoop ruby reds 4oz Healthy Balance Pomergrante, blueberry, acai blend juice. Handful of ice Stir or blend either way is delicious. If you try the shake let me know what you think.
  9. I didn't technical have a pureed phase either. At 10 day follow up, my surgeon (actually my surgeons partner as my surgeon was out) said I could move to soft foods which she described as anything I could mash with my tongue. I struggled with things like fish because it was a little to dry. So start slow - soft cheeses, yogurt (w/ Protein powder added in), refried Beans, chicken or tuna salad (with Mayo or Greek yogurt), Ricotta Bake, etc. Try that for a couple of weeks and see how it goes. If you tolerate it well, then move on to some more dense foods (like tender deli meat, baked fish) but always chewing well and with something to dip it in to keep it moist. I would also suggest finding a nutritionist that specializes in bariatrics if you can. The one I use does everything over the phone. Happy to give you that name if you need someone. 10. What? Me? Really? Yes! It’s true—I’m back with a blog update. I’d love to give you some grand reason for my disappearing act, but the truth is just that life has just gone on. Being banded was a huge life altering experience and for many months it affected everything. In a way, it defined me, just as being fat has defined me for the past 20 or so years of my life. Being banded affected my daily routine—what I ate, how I moved, work, the gym, doctors appointments. And then slowly, it affected me less. Life went back to normal. I stopped feeling sore, I went back to the gym, I started being able to wrestle those big dogs I work with again, and I stopped agonizing over every morsel I put in my mouth. My band became a part of who I am and stopped being everything I am about. And as life went on without me having to stop and contemplate my band every other minute, I stopped having new and exciting things to say about it. That’s not to say that everything has gone back to the way it used to be, although my life is not yet as completely altered as many of my pre-band fantasies projected it to be. A lot has happened in my life both related and unrelated to my weight-loss journey. I believe last I left you guys, I was plagued with a big pain from a little kidney stone. Who knew something smaller than a pencil eraser could cause so much trouble? Well, in case you were wondering, the kidney stone did not pass on its own. After my trip to the hospital and the very happy drugs they pumped me with, my pain was gone. I followed up with an urologist anyhow and it was a good thing since he informed me that being pain free did not mean being urolith (big, fancy, medical word for a kidney stone) free. And low and behold, the night after my appointment, I had another bout of excruciating pain. The pain came and went for the rest of the week until my follow-up appointment at which point my doctor and I decided to schedule lithotripsy—a non-invasive surgical procedure used to break up kidney stones using shockwaves that pass through the body wall. Unfortunately the first available appointment for the procedure was not for another 2 1/2 weeks. The pain was sporadic in the mean time, and while I had some hefty pain meds, I was unable to use them at times—ie when at work. So, I used Ibuprofen instead—after all the PA at my docs office said it was okay given my situation as long as I took certain precautions. Well, I don’t think I took enough precautions, or I just took too much Ibuprofen because after a few days my stomach got all funky and I was sick for a good 2-3 days. I stopped the Motrin of course, and got better. Finally I went for my scheduled procedure and they took an x-ray to locate the stone, then hooked me up to an IV and knocked me out. I woke up shortly after and everything went smoothly. Of course the lithotripsy only broke the stone up to smaller pieces and didn’t get rid of it, so for another week and a half I waited for the stone to pass—with even more pain than before, as well as several bouts of nausea. At last, my stone was gone, and with it, the pain. In addition, I felt energetic and just plain good for the first time since it happened. I turned the stone in for analysis and did some extra urine tests and next week I return to my doc for the results as well as a discussion on nutrition to help prevent further stones. I’m a little worried about how that will go and how his nutrition advice will work with my band. Obviously drinking plenty of water is paramount for both my situations, but I have a feeling he’s going to tell me to cut back on my protein which will not bode will with band eating. He says he’s seen many bandsters getting kidney stones 3-4 months after surgery and on the one hand, that probably means he knows our nutrition restrictions, but on the other hand, it probably means the diet change helped in the formation of the stone. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. Despite the passing of my kidney stone, I am—sadly—not yet a paragon of health. I’ve been having some trouble with my shoulder. At first I just suspected a pulled muscle or something, but given my kidney stone-ibuprofen snafu, could not treat it properly with anti-inflammatory meds like Mortrin. I finally sucked it up and got myself to the orthopod who examined me and took an x-ray. He said the x-ray looked pretty good, but he did see a small bone spur which probably caused some bursitis. Normally he would have just had me treat it with NSAIDS (if it was that easy, I wouldn’t have needed him) but instead he gave me a cortisone shot. Sadly, it didn’t work. He also gave me a prescription for physical therapy if it didn’t work. I think I’ll probably have to use it, but I’m going to try my sister’s acupuncturist first (I saw him once before and he actually predicted my kidney stone by feeling my pulse—well not a kidney stone exactly, but he told me the “kidney” part of my pulse was weak—how crazy is that?) Of course, I think I’m starting to sound like an 80 year old, going on and on about my health problems. I’ve been sicker since getting my band than I was before—how did that happen? In other—non-medical—news, in the end of August, I finally moved into my new place. Having my own refrigerator to stock with all my own food has been helpful. I pretty much live off rotisserie chicken. I’ll have a quarter of a store bought chicken, no skin and I’ll pair it with some fruit, or carrot sticks, or tonight, a small baked potato. Yum, yum. My lunches vary, sometimes I’ll have a lean cuisine, or I’ll have a salad from the salad bar down the street. My usual breakfast is either a protein bar, or if I get up early enough, a 100 calorie whole grain English muffin with 1 egg, 1 egg white, and piece of low fat cheese. I do still have snacks. I believe in eating when I’m hungry. I’ll usually go for either a yogurt, or a high protein snack bar—Slim fast makes a yummy caramel nougat one, and South Beach has a chocolate raspberry one I love. Like a bad girl, I have taken to drinking diet soda again, but only 2-3 times a week instead of 5-6 times a day like I used to and of course, plenty of water is still a must. I stalled with my weight-loss for a while, not because I didn’t have restriction, but because I was making bad choices and eating a lot of junk food again. So, I started going to Weight Watchers. The band helps me monitor how much I eat, and WW gives me the tools to help me make better choices. Having to figure out how many points everything is makes you stop and think before eating it. I only have so much room in my new little tummy pouch, and I need to make each bite count. That’s not to say I’ve given up all the good stuff—I still eat the foods I love…pizza, bagels, ice-cream, etc, but not on a regular basis. I really feel like I eat like a “normal” person now. I can eat a slice of pizza, without eating 3. I can have a turkey burger and leave half for the next meal. Anytime I order out, my food lasts a good 3 meals instead of finishing the whole thing and wanting more. It’s amazing how normal that is for me now. My loss is picking up again and I still have hopes of making my goal of losing 75# by my sisters wedding which is October 25. I’ve got to lose another 5 lbs and I’ve got 10 days to do it. Holly, this entry is getting long. I have more to say about how I’m feeling about the changes the last 6 months have made to my mind, body and soul, but I’m working on page three of this thing now, so I’m going to cut it here, and save the rest for another entry. Here’s to not letting another 3 months go by before that happens Tootles.

My first fill went well, but found out I have Acid Reflux ugh!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too. I had that same feeling and was told I needed to stop eating earlier before I go to bed, I was only having the feeling when I went to lay down and sleep. Like hard to swallow the lump was there for sure. I am better now but it was shortly after my first fill as well. Interesting. I am not eating a lot these days as I have had a third fill and the pouch is so small it does not hold that much food. I miss eating and when I eat yogurt in the morning with my fruit I find myself chewing yogurt just for the chewing action. Go figure. I love the SMELLS of Thanksgiving but I know I will not be able to eat more than 5 bites. Ok so be it.... Best wishes to you. I must say imaluckydog and I am still Smiling

6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED

I track everything I put in my mouth into the bariatric app. I weight everything that is not pre measured. i am on the treadmill or swimming laps at the pool daily. I tried the do nothing method and was gaining so that doesn’t work for my body. i have a Apple Watch I wear 24:7 except when it’s charging that keeps track of everything including my steps, calories burned, caloric intake, etc. my dietitian is the one that said I should be walking or swimming. Things I find so weird when reading about others sleeve surgery: - dumping, I have not thrown up once or felt I was going to. My stomach hates eggs now but it’s just a really uncomfortable feeling I get - everyone has fast weight loss. Me ALMOST nothing. Dr thinks my intial weight loss week one was fluid. We are two months post op. And seven weeks from when I got back and was weighed at my dr. - I can eat more than a cup of food at a time if I wanted to. I don’t. But I can easily polish off a Greek yogurt cup and still be very hungry.
  14. PS - I have been on liquids since I had the "maybe" fill yesterday - In case it is a kinked tube, and not a leak, I may have increased restriction after the 1cc he put in to test the tube - I have only been drinking water/tea and yogurt but I'm pretty sure I have increased restriction - so doesn't that mean I haven't slipped or eroded? and does it mean I don't need to have my band removed immediately????? (please say yes!)

    Oct 14th sleeves

I'm here with you all. Trying to get all my Water in today. I did have some fluids in hospital before I went home I also got 3 shots of lovinox in hospital. I always have a post nasal drip and also feel there is some phlegm in the back of my throat. Uncomfortable. When did you all come home. I was told to not start stage 2 shakes, Soup, yogurt etc until tomorrow my first full day at home. Good luck everyone.
  16. I had my surgery Aug 4th I have been eating shaved deli meat . I have a lot of cravings. But I don't give into them. I went back to work August 17th . I have been feeling great . But this food thing when to eat and how much . I just haven't caught on yet. I have to me not lost any weight but my clothes says other wise and my face. I don't weigh my self . Only when I go to the dr. 8/10 I was 240. 8/23 I was 232. Starting weight 245 day of surgery.

    Frozen yorgurt

If by "frozen yogurt" you mean plain (unsweetened) yogurt (greek or otherwise), I'd think that would be doable. If by "frozen yogurt" you mean something that comes in a container in the frozen food section of your grocery store, I'd say it's unlikely you'll find an option that's not far too high in sugar to be a good choice. I've made my own "soft serve"-like concoction, using a small blender, almond milk, ice, and Protein powder. I don't usually use yogurt because it gives the whole thing a tangy-ness I don't care for, but it would thicken it up. That's not always a good thing when you're really early post-op, though. Thicker shakes can be harder to get through your tiny sleeve in the first weeks when you're still swollen and healing.

    Please Help!!!! 5 days out....

Im sorry....i havent responded! Im doing better since i started the thread. Im not as hungry and find as long as i can get soups and yogurts in then it helps alot. Thank you to everyone who has replied with their thoughts and ideas.
  19. You're eating chicken 11 days out? Is that OK with your plan? Everyone's plans are so different. I can't have chicken until I'm 6 weeks post-op. I'm on day 16 and just started soft foods. Yogurt has gone down ok. Scramble eggs and string cheese are my favorite right now. I made the ricotta bake tonight. It was delicious.
  20. My surgery was 6/9/11. I am doing ok for the most part I guess. I am ready to start mushies that much I know for sure lol .. I am sick of pudding, cream of wheat, and applesauce.. and greek yogurt I LOVED before .. now I cant even stand to smell it :/ I bought regular vegetable soup yesterday, and some italian wedding vegetable, and minestrone .. all the Light version. I tried the Vegetable one today and did it in the blender. SO GOOD. Dr said its more than fine as long asthere are no chunks. I dont know about you all but creamed soups made me gag after surgery.. the creaminess in anything is not appealing to me anymore. Im having some pain in the area where my draining tube was.. feels like muscle pain.. so im not worried about it for now. Other than that... its going ok for the most part. I cant wait to start mashed potatoes!!!!!
  21. Hi all, I'm in tears right now because the scale hasn't moved an ounce since April 12th, thirteen days! I'm at a loss because I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I track all my food on myfitnesspal.com and I've been averaging 450-550 calories, 60-70 grams of Protein, and I'm keeping my carbs at 30 or under. Pretty much all I'm eating is zero carb Isopure powder mixed with low carb soy milk, tuna and chicken salad, and somedays the occasional yogurt or Soup. I really haven't been exercising because I'm so damn tired, but I figure that I've been eating so little that there should be some movement on the scale even without exercise. I started on this journey with the pre-op diet on March 16th at 295lbs. On surgery day, March 30th, I was down 15 pounds at 280. On April 12th I weighed myself for the first time post op and was 261, for a total of 34 pounds lost... and that's it. Not an ounce since. For the last week every time I weigh myself I've been trying to keep a positive attitude even though the scale didn't move, but tonight seeing 261 again made me lose it. Is this it? Am I going to be 261 forever? I'm not expecting another huge loss, but 2 or 3 pounds at least?? I had my stomach cut out for god's sake, is a couple pounds a week too much to ask for? So now I don't know what to do. Should I go back to full liquids for a while? I don't see my nutritionist until the last week of May, so it's a while before I can ask her what to do... Has anyone else had this happen? I'm so depressed and anxious about this, I really believed the sleeve would help me finally be thin and now I'm afraid it's just another failure. :sad0:
  22. OMgoodness! I agree with you on the food commercials. I have a 16 month old, so most of the TV I watch comes from DVR after he is in bed. So I fast forward through those babies! Ya know what else I notice.....food billboards. I don't know if I paid that much attention to them before. We don't or hadn't been eating out much anyway, but now I see them and think grrrr. :cool2: Ha! Not to mention that everything looks and smells better now too! How funny huh! When I hit the drinkable yogurt phase I was like YUM!
  23. I'm so glad to have read this! You know...misery loves company! But I was thinking I was going crazy...I'm 4 days post op and thinking this won't work...I'm still hungry...I'm like a drug addict and will never get past my NEED for food...But I saw the doc today and he said this was normal and he bumped me up to some yogurt (never tasted so good!) and blended banana with my protein drink (it was awesome!) and I feel I can do this now. I even dreamed that he was not able to do the surgery but wasn't going to tell me so I'd be included in research about "mental hunger"...I told ya...I was going crazy! Anyway...God bless you all and WE CAN DO THIS!

    Help!!!! POST OP

Hi. Congratulations on going thru the surgery! You will lose weight, don’t worry! People have stalls and your body is reconfiguring your new system. I have been advised to stick with the doctors orders, hold off on all temptations and focus on staying hydrated and getting your protein in. Once you have healed you can add in an exercise regiment and a diet if you still aren’t satisfied. I think the soft food diet is cottage cheese, yogurt, beans and puréed foods. stay strong!
