When did you get hungry?
Debbieduck4 replied to bnm4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is my 7 month "Surgiversary" and I still don't feel hungry in the old sense of the word like I used to. I feel like I want to eat something because it sounds yummy, or I get shaky and headachy when I have gone too long without eating so I know I am hungry. But without the hunger hormone Grehlin anymore, I don't have that gnawing hunger that used to drive me to eat (and caused me to become so overweight). Now, I find that I can plan my meals, make healthy choices, and eat sensibly. When I was at your stage, I got really tired and bored of just drinking liquids pretty quickly and wanted something solid, so when I could have soft foods, I was super excited! My first foods were an over easy egg, cottage cheese, and greek yogurt. And they were delish Good luck on your journey! -
I have got the liquid centrum . Today I'm on the yogurt and I will have soup later . Hoping to go for a ride in the car this afternoon . Not long now for you Kate you will walk it girl !

1st post=op visit complete!
frozengrapes replied to frozengrapes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had yogurt and cottage cheese so far, smooth sailing so far. The baby spoons help a lot. I was a huge food guzzler. Happy to hear you are feeling so well. Since its fresh in your mind, how did switching from clear to all liquids to purée go?? How has everything gone? I hope I feel as good as you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Quite possibly regretting my UCSD decision
ibjennifere replied to SanDiegoPhotog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So glad to hear it! I had my surgery last Wed. and all went fine. One word of advice..do be diligent about the clear liquid diet pre-op and here is why; as part of the surgical process (and I had never heard anything about this) you will be inflated with CO2 to expand everything and make more room for the doctor to move around. This was and still is the most painfull part of the recovery process! The air bubbles move all around your torso, even up into your shoulders and take up to 5 or more days to dissipate. The more you shrink your liver chances are the less they will inflate you! I was diligent and still had a liver "larger than he would have liked." Anyone who says the pre-op diet isn't miserable is lying! It is hard, it is lonely and depressing but you can do it, and I believe it is the hardest part. I am already eating small bits of cottage cheese, yogurt and creamy Soups just days after surgery, however it's easy now because your just not hungry! I have about 12-16 muscle milk shakes that I don't need and you will to get through the pre-op. They are quite pricey so perhaps I can get them to you. I will be going to the next support group which you can do before surgery, I did, so keep in touch. :wink2: -
I KNOW I'm not supposed to compare my weightloss to others buuuuut.....
Qpdsful replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love to read all the posts this has been quite a journey...my surgeon is strict as heck..I started out 268 07/06/2011 and am at 220 09/12/2011 but he would like for me to be at 210...eating enough protein is challenging for me...the super sweet Nectar did not work...so I love the unflavored Unjury...mix with my yogurt, or in milk to get my liquid...watch the milk intake as it can make you constipated:~( The one Nectar that I really love is the Caribbean Cooler great in water and avail on Amazon for the best price I have seen:~) Keep up all the great work!! -
I don't cook. Very very rarely I will get in the kitchen. I've never really liked it and it's a waste of time and food for me. You can purchase food for every single phase, post surgery. Clear soups like chicken broth, chicken noodle (just drain out the chicken and the noodles, the broth is delish), unjury Chicken Soup is pretty good. I bought one of those cup warmer things to keep it warm and near me. I couldn't drink it all before it got cold. For the first 6 to 8 weeks, you won't be eating a lot. I went to Kroger and got broccoli cheese soup, chili, chicken tortilla soup. Just stick them in the blender or strain the solids out ( just no tomato soup, it's too acidic. Well, my stomach doesn't like it anyway). You can get pre boiled eggs.. mash them up with some mayo and mustard, a little pickle juice, salt and pepper-- egg salad. Yummy, soft and about 5 grams of Protein. Yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans with cheese, mashed potatoes (at this point in your recovery, mashed potatoes won't make a huge difference. it'll be soft warm and filling). I like ham and bean soup, sent through the blender as well. And don't forget your liquids! You can make suntea, sweetened with splenda or another alternative, or drink it plain. Water, juice (I drank white grape juice), diet snapple. There's also Isopure. Some people love the stuff. I wasn't too fond of it but there's, 40 grams of protein per bottle! Check it out at your local GNC. I had to mask the flavor with some fruit juice. Further along you will find that you can get a lot of things lowcarb. Just ask for no bun or a lettuce wrap-- Wendy's will serve their chicken/burgers on a bed of lettuce with a knife and a fork. Hardees/Carl's Jr sells all of their burgers Lowcarb-wrapped in lettuce leaves. Jimmy Johns has the Unwich which is any of their sandwiches wrapped in lettuce instead of bread, or chopped on a bed of lettuce like a salad. Same with subway. And if they don't serve it that way, you can make it that way. It never hurts to ask. On the weekends, like Friday night I go through the drive thru at KFC and get a 4 piece in their grilled recipe. I take the skin off because I don't eat skin and at home I pair it with bagged salad or sometimes I can get myself to steam some vegetables to go with it. It doesn't take much to fll me up at all. ALSO Atkins has really great frozen lowcarb meals. The chicken broccoli alfredo is excellent.

Hey they want me to not snack also, but I am Type II diabetic and I need that little calorie boost. I add them into my calorie count of approximately 1200 calories a day. Usually it's fat free/sugar free, yogurt and pudding. Just that little shot of chocolate sure helps. As long as I am losing at a nice and steady pace, I will do what I feel is comfortable for me. It keeps me from overeating at my meals also.

i do everything in a romaine lettuce leaf, tuna salad, chicken salad, seafood salad, blt's. I do sliced meat wrapped around a slice of cheese or a sliver of dill pickle. Also string cheese. sometime i will freeze a greek yogurt and let it thaw half way to have a frozen yogurt snack in the afternoon or when i am PMSing

Hi everyone. I had a gastric sleeve on September 12th 2017. In 9 days I lost 12 lbs and was ecstatic. Since my weigh in at the dr on 9.21.17 i have not lost 1lb! I am the exact same weight. I was put on soft foods on 9.22 and have been eating yogurt, eggs, chicken. Trying my hardest to get all my fluids, but averaging about 40 oz of fluid a day. Has anyone else experienced weight loss Plateau this close to the surgery date? It seems awfully soon to not be losing weight. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thank you. Hi everyone. I'm just about a month post op (Banded 12/18). I'm down 16 lbs since surgery, 32 lbs total since September. I was feeling restricted in my eating until about a week ago. Now I feel like I'm eating too much before I'm satisfied. I still don't go over my 1000 calories for the day but I'm definitely more hungry than I have been in between meals and I'm not hungry at all until around noon. I force myself to have a banana or a Greek yogurt in the morning, saving most of my calories for lunch and dinner. I go for my 1 month post op appointment on Wednesday so I will ask questions then too. They won't give me a fill until 6 weeks post op. I'm actually happy about that because my port area is swollen and sore. I guess I really don't have a question, I just wanted to put this out there for others who feel and have felt the same way.

I used premiere protein shakes before surgery and Atkins shakes for my prop diet, I would put nutmeg and cinnamon in the vanilla shake with a little splenda, tastes just like eggnog. I got some baby foods like sweet potatoes, a little peaches but most of all we just need to use these until we can eat regular foods and then we just need to always remember protein. You can purchase "six star protein powder unflavored you can put into yogurt, drinks they sell it at Wal- mart. Its also good in SF, FF, Pudding. Sent from my N9519 using BariatricPal mobile app

I only have to do 7 days but I'm starting tomorrow. How are you doing with it? Mine consists of 1 protein shake a day, low calorie yogurt, sf jello and pudding, and broth.

It's not just mornings for me; anytime I fall asleep my band tightens up. I've taken a 2 hour nap and woken up feeling rather tight. Not quite sure what it is about sleeping, but the tightness is quite normal. Normally I'm not hungry for several hours and lunch is my first meal but the dr says it'll mess up my metabolism so I try to stick with yogurt or a protein shake for breakfast.

Finally got a date 04-24-2013
axd0424 replied to erica6137's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3 more days. So ready for this. Not nervous at all. Only had to do 5 days of pre op liquid and am able to have veggies and yogurt. Feel very fortunate about that. Stocked up on muscle milk shakes as 20 grams of protein in each shake. Got my vitamins and am registered at the hospital. Tuesday can't come soon enough. HUGE thank u to this forum. It's been the best support system ever. -
Yes, in the beginning I hated eating too. I ate alot of mushies, yogurt, sf pudding, soups, whatever was easy to go down. Now I don't have any difficulties eating and I'm 4.75 months post op. So it does get better, hang in there!

Rumble In The Jungle......
Imjustmee replied to slimmom24angels's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aside from sf jello I cant think of anything that's not dairy, ie yogurt, pudding, cream of wheat etc. -
Yogurt was definitely one of the easiest things for me! I had a tough time with scrambled eggs (still do at 8 weeks out). I love pea soup so that was pretty easy (no chunks)! Good luck and like Oct517 said, take it slow!

Favorite Foods Post Op
traely1202 replied to chefkelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow will be one week since my surgery!! I am looking forward to starting the "full liquid diet" with milk. They say if I can tolerate that then I can add pudding and yogurt in limited quantities. I'm still in quite a bit of pain, but still have a drain that comes out Friday. I have noticed when ppl eat around me certain smells make me sick. My son had Arby's fries the other day and the smell of them nauseated me (I used to love them) and someone ate a chocolate donut and the smell from that even got me. I to am nervous when I do start to eat how it will be. Next Wednesday I start with the puréed food, kinda nervous. Not even sure what would taste good puréed. -
How Do You Know If Lactose Intolerant?
jennrus posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For a while i had major runs so stopped protein shakes with milk. For a week. Today had one and been running to bathroom all day. Yet yogurt doesnt bother me. -
Consider yourself lucky. I'm am 5 days post op. saw my doctor today. For the next two weeks I am strictly only allowed protein shakes. I asked if I could have broth or yogurt and I was shot down. I'm not really hungry yet, but I literally miss having something to chew on. Good luck with everything!

Hi Samantha: Some options I've found helpful are Fage Greek Yogurt, small half serving of nuts (low sodium - don't want the Water weight), Tb of chunky Peanut Butter (this really curbs snackies), fresh fruit smoothies make with splenda (berries are great with low sugar and AOX), a piece of fresh fruit. HTH

But damn I didn't know how much it SUCKS! I'm only 3 weeks out. I lost 10 my first week, 2 my second week and none this week. I only weigh in on Wednesdays. I'm trying really hard to stay positive. I'm scared that this isn't going to work for me, or that I'm going to be a slow loser. How can I lose 85% of my stomach and eat nothing but puréed food, yogurt and liquids and not lose weight. I feel like the whole "your body is in starvation mode" or "new muscle weighs more than fat" is one of those things I used to tell myself in my old dieting days to make myself feel better. I'm also on my period so I've been using the "I must have water weight" theory too. But at 800-1000 calories/day how can this be? So frustrated.
