1st week post op recipe
lapband78 replied to wesleyfamily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm taking a week of from work, so glad I decided to do that. But what about Soups in a cup? I add a little butter to the Soup and it fills me a little more. And Yogurt maybe? If you just roll it around in your mouth before swallowing, then it will be thin enough I would think? -
Best yogurt to eat post OP?
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to KM1284's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree - GREEK yogurt. Fage 0 (plain) with melon is my favorite. I usually can only eat 1/3 - 1/2 a container at a sitting and it fills me up for 4-5 hours. Now I am 6 weeks out and I can enjoy almost the entire container. I now have the Oikos Triple Zero to my menu. My favorite is the mixed berry is very tasty. -

jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to NewMrsSmith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi NewMrsSmith - at two weeks out I was having melon with my yogurt. Of course it was small small amounts but I liked honeydew, cantaloupe and watermelon with my yogurt. Really yummy combo for me. -
Vitamins & Protein?!
Jendroppinglbs replied to VBGGermany's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have never tried the Isopure so I don't know how they compare to the Premier. I make sure that I drink at least one shake a day to give me a good jump start on my Protein intake. Not sure what you can eat but I also eat the light greek yogurt that is another 12 grams of protein and tastes so yummy -
Proper Nutrition for a Distance Runner
AvaFern replied to aiso65's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a runner, although I usually top out at about 35-40 miles a week. I tend to run in the morning and/or at night and usually a serving size of granola about an hour before I go out keeps me feeling fine. I have found that I am completely intolerant of being hungry while I run now so if I'm going on a longer distance run I wear a running pack and I keep a thing of Gu and a baggie of granola in it. I made the mistake of not doing so a few times and I ended up getting fairly sick and dizzy a few miles from home. I'm not really crazy about Gu anymore because the sugar in it tends to make me feel a little woozy, but I'd rather feel woozy than be passed out on the street, so if I'm doing a race and I don't really have the time to stop and eat some granola like I can on just a training run, the Gu works ok. Past that, I drink a Protein shake afterward most days. I mix almond milk, 100 calorie Greek yogurt, half a serving of Protein powder, and PB2 in the blender and it tastes better than the premade shakes and has more protein. Otherwise, I try to meet my protein goals, I don't eat a lot of bread or Pasta, but I do have a few bites occasionally, and I don't really tend to crave junk food very often anymore, but if I want a few handfuls of Chex Mix or a bite or two of cake I eat it. Mostly I just focus on my protein during the remainder of the day and I make sure I eat granola before I go out for a run and then usually I'm fine. Also, I run with a Water bottle because I find I drink less during the day, so I end up feeling really dehydrated if I don't make an effort to drink at least a bit while I run, before, and after. -
Vitamins & Protein?!
ShellMilliner replied to VBGGermany's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You can request samples from several different companies of the vits. I chose Celebrate Vitamins. I had the SADI so I have lots to take. I don't mind the calcium or the Iron but the multi is well, ewww. I pinch my nose and take a sip of Water when I take it. Getting the Protein in at first is very hard. I'm 6 weeks out and there are days I struggle, because there are times that I'm just not hungry. You have to do the best you can. I played around a lot with mixing up Protein drinks, adding banana, vanilla extract, blueberries, almond milk, Peanut Butter. Also greek yogurt is high in protein so that helps. I was not fond of adding Protein powder to my Soups to me it changed the consistency and flavor. Experiment with flavors it really helps. I had to have my shakes VERY cold to get them down. It still takes me close to 1.5-2 hours to finish an 11oz shake. Soft foods help to increase your protein, fish/seafood is very high in protein as is ground turkey. You will get there! Set a goal to get more in each day than the next. -
Isn't the clear liquid phase only like a week? The most important thing is to start getting your water intake up, so you don't get dehydrated. I just checked my food journal, and I lived on sugar free ice pops and strained vegetable soup. Strained soups tasted so much better than broth, and my dog loved the veggies mixed in with his food... lol. Is there a reason why you can't do whey based protien? I was drinking 2 4oz shakes a day, would take almost an hour to get one down, but it wasn't that bad. 6 months post surgery, and now I hate protien powder, I get my protien from greek yogurt now. Good luck with your recovery, you'll do great! Congratulations on the new you!

I used the Sunray calcium citrate capsules and opened them into my Greek yogurt. Made it a little gritty, but at that point I welcomed ANY texture. My 6 month labs showed my calcium was high so I quit taking them. My Iron was also high so I quit taking them, too. 12 month labs showed iron was normal and calcium still a little high, even without the supplement. So make sure to followup with bloodwork since nutrition is not a "one size fits all"

I am almost 2 weeks post op. My surgeon said I could do scrambled eggs. I chewed like forever and only ate a little bit. Felt fine. Then I had Greek yogurt a bit later. Now I am in pain. I took gas x. But no relief. Any suggestions?

Ewww this is horrible
Ms. Kay's New Life replied to jsleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can relate to all the spitting, nausea, foamy throw up, slim throw up, all around throwing up. I was sleeved on May 4th, could not keep anything down. I was given a total of three banana bags and discharged on May 6th with orders of a visiting nurse for two weeks to administer 2000ml IV's. I have tried to as of yesterday to follow the full liquid diet, I ate two bites of Greek yogurt and had a horrible bout of throwing up and later on in the day I tried two bites of mashed potatoes with nothing in them but made with milk, again same thing with horrible throwing up. I know it will get better but goodness when your going through it!...... It's hard because we just don't know what our stomachs will tolerate. Today I have blended a Premier protein shake which has gone down okay. Wishing everyone well, this hurdle will pass! -
have you ever had orange cream/vanilla ice cream or an orange julius? If you like anything orange you might want to try this. You can't taste the Protein in it and it is the only way I can drink protein without throwing up and I am five months post-op. I use unjury, vanilla powder protein mix or you can get protein mix at Walmart or drug store. If you have a blender, fill it half full with chipped ice. Add one Light N Lively orange, Greek yogurt (80 calories, one serving of vanilla - protein mix. One cup of 50/50 orange juice (half the sugar of regular orange juice). Blend until it looks like an orange milk shake. It is easy to get down without that horrible taste and it is full of protein. You can use strawberry yogurt, and fresh strawberries. If you want an even creamier shake you can use a cup of sugar free/fat free vanilla ice cream. I hate fat/sugar free ice cream but you can't tell in these shakes. I still get sick easy so I just take a few bites of something every few hours. I had a very hard time with my surgery so I have had to do what is best for me even if it doesn't follow the program exactly. I am very picky about what I eat and I never go over 1,000 calories, usually less than that. I was staying so hungry all of the time it made me even sicker. Experiment with your food and try only tiny amounts at the time and of course chew, chew, chew. It really does get better as you learn how to eat the foods that don't make you feel ill. Foods that I use to love I can't stand the taste of now. This is truly a life changing surgery in more ways than one.

I was OP yesterday and had my second fitness workout with a trainer. Loving this decision I made for myself. Today I see my NP for a fill check. No fill today. I'm tight enough. I'll hit the gym for some treadmill walking after the doctor. food today is yogurt and nuts and seeds for Breakfast, edamame seeds and a meatball for lunch, and leftover beef in tomato sauce from yesterday for dinner. Oh I also asked my trainer to take body measurements so he did. He will take them monthly.

I just started the puree stage yesterday, and I'm loving it! I'm just so happy I can actually eat food, even if it's all mushy! My dietitian has us avoiding carbs like potatoes, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, etc. The only "meats" we are allowed are canned chicken and tuna. We can have chicken, but need to put it in the blender first (NO THANKS). Some foods we are allowed are Greek yogurt, sugar free applesauce, pureed fruits and veggies (without seeds), ricotta cheese, re-fried Beans, and cottage cheese. We can only have a 1/4 cup portion of these foods. Here are some suggestions she gave us: -cottage cheese with pureed fruit -ricotta cheese with marina sauce and sprinkled parm cheese (had it last night--DELISH) -cottage/ricotta cheese with cinnamon and splenda Basically anything we eat at this point, needs to be a "baby food-like" consistency. I'm gonna boil some carrots tonight and mash them up with a little salt and pepper. I think my biggest issue is getting enough Protein. My dietitian requires us to get at least 60g of protein everyday. Keep up the good work everyone

I am on my puree foods step and I couldn't be happier!!! The 2-weeks of shakes were HELL for me! I just wanted to eat something! Of course the shakes made me full, but it didn't stop my cravings. I finally had my post-op appt yesterday... they said I could move on to the next step and I am so excited! I don't know how I made it through those 2-weeks of shakes, maybe I have more willpower than I thought. Anyways, I had some ricotta cheese and sauce last night and it tasted like heaven. When the dietitian told me my portion sizes would be 1/4 cup, I thought "YEAH RIGHT!" - but it actually filled me up! I even had some Greek yogurt yesterday and savored every spoonful. I am just so happy I can start to eat actual food and not dread my meal times. Or course I am still drinking shakes to get in Protein, but now I can add extra things to make it taste better. My personal favorite--chocolate shake with PB2 (powdered peanut butter), and 1/4 cup of banana--soooo damn good! I am so happy I went through with this procedure! I was having some doubts along the way, but nothing good ever comes easy, and this process is NOT easy! I know I am going to run into more obstacles along the way, but I'm heading in the right direction and just need to stay on track!

If you are on Facebook, look up and request to join a group called "Rock's Kitchen". It is a mainly WLS community site that is dedicated to health and wellness, with a wealth of recipes and ideas shared DAILY about what to cook, eat, prepare, freeze....all geared towards healthy living, cooking, and smaller portions! It has been inspirational for me and they are at nearly 10,000 friends now because it is so popular. I meal prep every week and I utilize a lot of the ideas mentioned above. I also cook for a family, and I rarely eat an entirely separate meal. I too make a lot of meals now that contain meatballs because my family loves anything containing them, and its easy for me to just pick out two and eat them with a side of something else. If my family has spaghetti, I will have two meatballs and a small amount of ricotta. Last week I found a recipe on Pinterest called "meatball sub casserole". It is a base of garlic toast, made using fresh french bread, that has been toasted under the broiler, then placed in the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Then you top that with a low fat cream cheese/mayo mix that has italian seasoning in it. Then you top that with meatballs that are already cooked and cut into halves so they lay flat on the bread. Then top with low-sugar marinara sauce, and top that with low-fat mozzarella. Bake in the oven on 350 until the cheese melts and is brown and bubbly. This meal was such a hit that my family fought over who got the leftovers TWO NIGHTS LATER!!!! They wanted it three nights in a row! I did not eat the bread part, I just took some meatball and cheese mixture off of the top. I ate mine with some cottage cheese because it made it taste like lasagna! Eating properly even with a family CAN BE DONE!!!!! My entire family has improved their eating habits because of my surgery. My husband is not a large man but he lost his excess 20 pounds over these last six months just by way of the environmental changes. I used to cook large breakfasts every weekend morning that we were all off and at home. NO MORE!!! Now we all enjoy fruit smoothies, or yogurt with homemade granola, or Breakfast burritos inside low-carb wraps. It is hard at first because you will feel like your list of "Cant Have" is bigger than the list of "Go Ahead" but you will find in time that the things you used to enjoy, crave, desire, are no longer important to you. You can do this:) -
Good rule, the straw test, for pureed food. As far as pumpkin in a can goes. That's unsweetened. You couldn't just dump it in a pie crust and call it pumpkin pie You have to add egg and sugar and spices....that's how I know it's not sweet. Sweet Potatoes or yams would be good pureed. I think. I hope. My NUT just told me today buy baby food. Look at labels, it has to be pureed, not chunky, no pieces of anything in it. Even yogurt must be no fruit, only the blended kind. It's a lot to think about, but It's so nice to bounce ideas off each other here. I start my pre-op liquid diet today, I think I might want to stay off the food topic for awhile. LOL I have 10 days liquid before and 2 weeks after surgery, then pureed stage for 1-2 weeks, then soft diet for 2 weeks, and then....if I am up to it, real food. So this is going to be quite a journey. Ohhhh and the person who mentioned corned beef hash. I could eat a whole can, and did, often. Nothing else, but I could eat the whole can. Life is about to change in huge ways for me. Thanks for the input here, if I come across any good pureed ideas, I'll post them here.

First day of my 2week pre op diet!
pamzie85 replied to pamzie85's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well I'm from the UK and I am doing the NHS liver shrinkage diet which contains an allowance of 1pint of semi skinned milk, 4 muller light yogurts 100 calories each and 4 portions of low fat Soups 100 calories each. Of course you can buy and brands as long as you follow the calorie count. Unlimited tea and coffee and you can use the milk form your allowance as well as unlimited sugar free squash which I am yet to find as all they have out there is no added sugar which still contains natural sugars. Hope that helps. And let me know what diet you'll be doing as it seems everyone does something different and I'll be interested to know. -

Lots of pills
OregonTeacher replied to Emmyandlisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take 3 pills twice per day, plus multi Vitamin and a calcium twice per day. It is a trial in yhe beginning when you have to crush everything or open a capsule. I am also required to wait 10 to 15 minutes in between each medication. I use Greek yogurt to take my meds so I portion out my 1/4 cup yogurt, take my meds with it, then finish the yogurt when I am done with meds. Killing 2 birds with one stone, if you will. It is time consuming, but, frankly, the worst of it for me is the taste of my meds. Satan in a spoon!!!
