  1. I'm trying to figure out if I've met my sweet spot. I have lost 58 lbs since I had my surgery on April 03, 09. 20 lbs came from the pre-diet. I think I have about 5cc in a 10 cc band. Most of my appetite is in the p.m. hours. I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning and can go without breakfast. If I have breakfast I have to really take it slow and do not eat very much. I have lunch at 1:00 and It doesn't take much for me to fill full but by dinner time I seem to be starving and can tolerate almost any type of food. My last fill was Oct 22 and my next one is Nov 30. I've probaly lost 5 lbs this month. I have cheated by snacking later in the day. I've had 4 episodes of pb and its from not chewing my food well and eating to fast. I'm afraid if I don't get a fill then I want lose any weight. I want to be able to lose some weight in December. I've always gained in December due to the holidays. The month that I went without a fill I only lost 1 lb so when I went in Oct he put in 1cc. I think I need a small fill. Just curious as to what others think.

    I just have to vent...

Two things I need to vent about...and I am wondering if anyone else maybe feels the same way... 1. Why is it that people feel it is ok to ask you what you weighed prior to surgery and/or how much weight you have lost? Why do they feel they need to know specific numbers? It is obvious that the amount I have lost is significant....I just don't get it. 2. I have a very close friend who had the lapband about a year before I did. When I told her I was having it done she was very supportive. When she was losing her weight I always commented on how great she looked and congratulated her on her progress. Well now that I have had my surgery she never says anything to me at all. I guess it's not that big of a deal but it hurts my feelings a bit. Ok....I lied...theres more than 2.... 3. It drives me nuts when I go out to eat with family and friends and they start taking food off my plate because "You can't eat that much...." At least wait until I finish eating....chances are I am going to offer it to you anyway! Ok...I am done!

    I just have to vent...

So my family are not the only ones trying to take off my plate befor I have finished.Yes it is very annoying. They are like animals. One day Ill get them with a fork. Reference to your friend I think when we are interested and starting out we do become very involved and interested in other like I was with my girlfriend.Once banned for a while it just isn't so all consuming and then there are those of us whom just don't notice when people put on or loose. Your have done really well ..have you noticed it is usually those whom have weight issues that ask the questions..weight issuse doesn't mean they are over weight more that they have problems with the way they see weight issues. you go girl

    Happy But Disappointed

Sounds like you are doing great! If you are not experiencing hunger I think it was the right thing not to get a fill. However, for the future, don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. Some doctors don't want to give fills when a patient has lost weight, that doesn't make sense to me. I believe the decision to fill or not should be based on what the patient is eating, and hunger levels. You might want to keep notes for a few days before your appt. on your eating and hunger levels. Congrats on your weight loss, it's terrific!

    Be A Hero

Hi I know the feeling. I had some of the some things happen to me. My husband was 200% there for me. It was my grown children. They still 3 years later will not acknowledge my 105 pound weight loss to me or ever say anything about it. I guess I should be happy that we are all talking and enjoying each other. They were so sure that I would die, fail, and starve because of the miss information that they got from the wrong places. I did prove them wrong all accounts, and so I guess it is hard for them to say gee Mom, I guess you did know what you were talking about. It took me 6 months to make up my mind and educate myself about weight loss surgery and what doctor I was going to go to. I know JUST how important support can be, I am here for you every step of the way. Where are you having your surgery? You are doing something that is going to add 20 years to your life and your are being your very own HERO! Never look back--only look forward. There isn't anything you can't do because you are strong and a survivor and you want to change your life. I am very proud of you for making this choice. It takes a LOT more courage to have this surgery than to continue to do what you have been doing right now and that is being fat and unhealthy. Yes, I call it fat, I was fat, and I know there are a lot of nice ways to say it, but fat is fat there is no getting around it. You want something better for yourself and that is great. This is my private E-maile: Suzannesh@aol.com. If you send me an E-mail, I will send you my phone number and you can call me ANY time of the day or night that you need something. The closer you get to your surgery date, you will experience ALL kinds of feelings and emotions. That is very normal. I experience happy, sad, couldn't wait to have it done, scared to have it done all at the same times sometimes. I what if'd myself so much that it made my head spin. On the airplace going to Mexico, I was second guessing if I was doing the right thing. So when you have these feeling or emotions you aren't any different than most of the rest of us. You are pretty normal. I am here for you. There isn't anything that we can't talk about. Hugs, Suzanne

    Answering the haters

I liked your blog. Thanks for that! I lost 60 lbs 7 years ago and kept it all off with sensible eating and exercise (walking 6-8km/day) until about 2 years ago when the following happened: divorce and mediation diagnosed with depression became a grandma to 2 beautiful twin girls! repairing relationships with my adult children after their dad said bad things about me (even though he was the cheater!!) - a LOT of work! met someone new (I was very careful, didn't even let him kiss me for 3 weeks! I'm 50, that's how scared I was) moved in with my wonderful man renovated our kitchen my job changed got engaged my son got married my daughter got married I got married So ..... I started eating and stopped walking ..... and I gained it all back and then some ..... So I know I "can" do it, its a lot of work. I too have hypothyroidism AND a ruined metabolism from yoyo dieting so I look at this as a tool. I know I can fail but it will go a long way to helping me stay on track! And anyway, IT'S NONE OF THEIR DAMN BUSINESS WHAT I DO!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pre-op

Go for it CD, I had my "Last Supper" at Olive Garden, boy were those bread sticks good! LOL Best Wishes for you surgery and success with your weight loss.
  9. Hello I am Luz Elena I have been banded for a year and changes have been wonderful not only for the sizes I have dropped but also for my self esteem I have gained, I wish I had known this 10 years ago. I am still half way and still need to drop the other par but I know I'll get there Good luck to all of you pre and post:D
  10. Nervous and excited! My work doesnt' know I'm being banded, so I'm coming donw with something (insert cough here)- luckily (in a twisted way) there's been a couple others out sick in the office so something is definitely going around, LOL. I am kind of nervous too because I hope to be back to work on Monday- off Thursday and Friday. I'm not sure I can extend til Monday. We'll see, though, I will if I have to. The pre-op diet hasn't been as hard as I had thought- I'm not just doing shakes, though, just really limiting my calories, and doing mostly shakes. I have lost about 11 lbs. I will say, DH is making me a very small steak and steamed veggies for dinner tonight! I am excited to lose weight, for once and for all, and to not have it be such a struggle- and I'm glad to have all of you as my group to be successful with!

    Ugh so discouraged!!

The best advice I can give to anyone is stay off of the scale. I don't know my weight until i go to the dr for my check ups

    pre-op diet

Some doctors do it and some doctors don't do it. It also does depend on your weight. I would suggest asking your doctor about that one.

    Calorie Intake

Emmy, have you checked out fitday.com? There's probably some sort of calculator on there that will help you come up with a number. Generally, for women, the numbers are between 1200 and 1600 calories a day for weight loss. Obviously that's just a general guideline and is probably not even helpful for you. I've been using the home version of Fitday and find it very helpful. There is one big problem, though, with its metabolism calculator, which is the same on every single one I've ever tried. Generally, these calculators take your current weight and activity level and based on that tell you how many calories a day will let you maintain your weight and how many fewer you should consume to lose weight. Well, unfortunately the current-weight number includes a whole lot of fat, which is metabolically inactive, and that skews the number upward considerably. But using an ideal weight for the same calculation results in a lower number than would be accurate. So what I do is take both numbers and split the difference, which gives me a better estimation of my daily calorie expenditure. How precise a number are you looking for? You must have heard the 1200-1600 range bandied about. Is that what you wanted to know?
  14. I am waiting for a surgery date (maybe they will tell me when they call with the date), but the advocate for the bariatric center and the surgeon himself have never mentioned pre-op diet. Do some doctors ask you to do that and some not? Or, does it depend on your weight?
  15. I am someone who over the last 30 years, spent much time on the road lecturing and within a very narrow range of society, had some reputation in my field. I was used to seeing the 425 pound me on video or in training films, always was prepared to gulp a bit at how incredibly fat I had become over 30 years, each new video a bit bigger. I would always tell myself that the video adds 25 pounds at least, maybe even 50. Good old denial. Recently, fulfilled a bucket list item and did a TED talk and just got it back yesterday after editing, seeing myself down 130+. This time, for the first time, I was shocked that I looked that relatively slim...and thought -- maybe the camera takes away pounds! Still could not believe it was me even though I still have a ways to go with weight loss. http://tedxtalks.ted.com/ , put "Children Must Live with Families" in the search bar.

    vibration machine for cellulite

well, there have been many weight loss "products" and there was a vibrating machine back in the 20's and what we have learned from that is that nothing, no products will help you just loss weight by standing there. All jokes aside, keep your money and take a walk or ride a bike...the human body needs activity to loss weight...diet and exercise...there is no simple cure or pill or powder and no amount of vibration will burn a signifigant amount of calories. Since we are talking about vibrating...remember sexual activity will burn 20-100 calories and that is it, so if you just lay there what do you think will happen? My guess is not much will happen...

    Just banded 3 days ago

Hi, I'm a Leelee too. And I graduated in 1977! Get that! Congradutations! I have not told anyone either. I am not really a private person but in this case I am. I feel it is my business. I also know that when someone looses weight people say, wow, she has lost weight. And then some one else will say ya, she had that surgery. Then they say I thought she had that surgery?? Should she have lost more weight than that? She doesn't look like she has lost very much. Believe me I have heard it all. That is what happens when you own a salon. You are doing great keep it up.

    Port Flipping

I had the same thing happen in February and went back and had it filled under flouroscopy. It went very smooth in March. I think it is as we lose weight things start to get smaller and start to move around. February was very Very painfull as he was trying to do the fill. Went good in March. Nothing to worry about.
  19. Its been 9 weeks since VSG and I've only lost 37 pounds since surgery. I really thought I would have lost more by now. I was sick for a week and had IV meds and fluids pumped into me, I also had to get steroids cuz my lungs were shutting down....maybe this slowed my weight loss? HW 260 SW 250 CW 213
  20. I had my sleeve done on 10/22/12 and have steadily lost weight daily. I know, I know.....I'm not supposed to weigh daily but I have. Anyway, this last week I went from 205.5 to 206.5 and not 207.5 in a matter of 2 days. I know that I am not eating into any caloric danger zones, but I am scared. Is this where my weight loss is going to end?? I know a few people who have had this surgery and they say that they've stayed the same weight but never gained weight. One of them was talking about eating a Carl's Jr burger on FB yesterday. (which I would NEVER do, if I was going to eat like that then I wouldn't have put myself through the surgery). Any help or advice would be so very helpful. I want to continue losing and do whatever it takes. I have a protien shake in the am and small lunch and dinner as that's all I can intake. Please help!!!
  21. Hi all. I need some help. My NUT says I should be getting 80 grams of protein a day. I hardly EVER do. I'm averaging 50-60 grams a day. That means I'm around 140 grams low every week. Is this going to hurt me in the long run? I'm really blue about this. I'm afraid I'm doing some damage to my body. My weight loss is going ok. Not complaining about that at all. Can some veterans give me some advice? Thanks.
  22. Hey startingoveryetagain, Don't worry about that mean ole scale! Its just being a pain because you probably still have some swelling around your abdomen that fools it into thinking you haven't lost weight. Also if you haven't had a BM in a while that can keep you second guessing about how the surgery will help you lose weight. Personally, I've seen my scale go down AND up which made me go...hmmm wth?! However, I know I didn't do anything wrong so I'm going on like I hadn't been checking a few days this week. My personal advice is to continue drinking water or clear fluids so it can flush your system and in the next couple of days I'm sure you'll see the results you need to keep you focused on your goals. Good Luck!
  23. I went in today for a possible unfill. I am sliming after meals and wanted to make sure I wasn't doing damage. I was there about 9 days ago and have lost 10 pounds in the 9 day. The tech said that was far too much weight to have lost and seemed concerned. Total since my surgery I have lost about 42 pounds. He did not unfill me surprisingly enough. He said if I were sliming in between meals he would have but felt that my band was the best he had ever seen it. Anyone else been told that they are losing too much too fast?
  24. I'm a little over 4 weeks post op with no fills yet and I do about 800 calories a day. 100-200 for breakfast, 200-300 for lunch and 300-400 for dinner. I try to get 60 grams of protein and 40 minutes of cardio 5 times a week. I keep track of every single calorie I consume (even vitamins) and the weight continues to come off. I figure if you keep your calories low then you can't help but lose weight. Good luck!
  25. bsellis amazing no fills and u r managing well I was on 5.8 ml on surgery day and was hungry every 2 hours then got a fill now am 6.3 ml and feels right but not loosing weight.
