Even when we get to normal it is hard to remember we are normal. I went shopping yesterday and went straight to the plus size department and then remembered I don't fit in those sizes anymore...Great NSV Zoe! Keep it up, you are doing fantastic!

Hello Everyone, I've been lurking in the shadows on this site since about December and have really appreciated all of the tips and support you all have shown for each other. A little about me....I'm located in Bellingham Washington and have surgery scheduled for May 20 in Renton. I've been working on the preop requirements since the first part of January. I'm 5'6" and weigh 264. My goal is 150 or 160. Tips from here have helped with the questions I have asked the nutritionist since my first appointment and now I have additional questions for my surgeon for my preop appointment in May. There have been many threads I have read where people have expressed trepidation in having this procedure for many reasons and I have to say I have had some of the same reservations. It has really helped reading what everyone has to say as it made my decision that much clearer to me. I am self pay so this is a huge financial as well as health decision for me. I am now more afraid of the debt load than the surgery due to the many helpful things I have read here. I also now have a whole new vocabulary (PB, NSV, Sliming...eeeew!) I also have a better idea what to expect in the weeks and months after I have this done from pain to odd noises. The tips and explanations you have all given has finally explained a lot of the things I am required to do. The doctor, nutritionist, psychologist and exercise physiologist all gave me guidelines of what to do and told me what I was required to do before surgery but sometimes it seems the explanations of why I was to do some of them were a little vague to non existant just that I needed to do them. I don't know about all of you but I usually need to know why and you all have answered the bulk of them either by asking the question I was wondering or answering the question. Thanks for all your help, questions, answers and good humor from a long time lurker and now a new member.

Nsv's (Non Scale Victories)
TracyLynn replied to MsDimplesGA's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow, pretty dress. My NSV is I can wear bra's from Victoria Secret again. I lost my back fat first! -
I was sleeved 10/2/13, today I completed the first day of couch to 5k. This is a big accomplishment for me as to say I was out if shape is a big understatement. I kept pushing myself and I did it. So excited!

I went to the doctor (PCP) yesterday because I kept getting dizzy. I kind of had a feeling that my blood pressure was too low. It was confirmed and the doctor took me off of one of my BP meds. I was taking two different types. One to control my migraines and one for BP. Off of the BP and hopefully by next week will have the migraine meds cut in half as well. Also off the cholesterol meds. WoooHooo!

My doctor is a crackhead? Please confirm...
Carrie22803 replied to Bensmum1109's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
um, yeah. hittin' the crack pipe. There is NO way 7-800 calories is safe or healthy. Of course, if everyone would eat no carbs and exercise 5x a week and eat a pittance of calories they would lose weight. But we are not everyone. That's why we got banded in the first place. I'm lucky my surgeon is a bandster and he knows what it's like. I have not been able to follow those rules very closely, but as long as I continue to slim down, I feel alright. It's slow going, but it seems like your doctor is a diet-nazi. I think he should emphasize taking small steps to lead to a goal of, say, working out 5x a week. You can't just all of a sudden go nuts and follow all those rules 100%. There's a higher chance of failure that way, which I've heard over and over throughout the years. If you're going to make a real change in lifestyle, it needs to be gradual enough that you can stick with it. I agree with Vines, you are doing awesome, much better than us Turtles. Be happy with your NSVs and tell your doctor he needs help. Rehab? -
Thanks Sades, I know I'm just cranky because the scale went up in spite of the fact that I've been eating well and not too much. Today, I have eaten too much, just knowing the scale went up. I know I will stop sabotaging myself tomorrow. And boy, it really affirms I need a fill and I've totally changed my mind about asking for .5 cc's. I want the full 1cc's. I don't even have to overchew my food for it to go down. I guess the dress size thing can be different for two different height people depending on where each person carries their weight. For me, it's sort of evenly distributed but my worst area is below the waist and above the knees all around. My butt has shrunk a lot though. JILL, What a victory! I just can't stand the woman's sizes, they are just not made for short framed people. Pants way too long, sleeves too long etc. The shoulders on the larger sizes would fit a linebacker. Just not right for shorties. I used to be 5" and 1/2 inch. I think I shrunk to 5 feet even. Even petite clothes can be too long for me, especially sleeve length. No wonder I can't reach anything in the kitchen cabinets! Although as my belly gets smaller, I can get closer to the counter and reach a little better. And all this time, I thought I couldn;t reach as well because I was shrinking! One NSV I've had is: I don't seem to drip food on my shirts anymore, as I lost weight I guess I am able to bend over the table better and I have fewer spills. And I can put my shoes and socks on without angling my body to the side around my belly. Ok Thanks everyone, I feel better now! I will salvage this day and make tomorrow even better. I can hang in until next Tuesdays fill. I love my fellow November Nymphs. My husband is just no good at helping me over these hurdles. He's very supportive, but just doesn't know the right words I need to hear. I think it's a Mars/Venus thing.

Hurray! Yes, you would be seeing a "skinny" woman in the mirror. Congrats on this NSV. Is your ticker up-to-date? have you lost 72 pounds already? -

So...I was on vacation last week and was so happy to not just fit into the seat on the plane, but I didn't need the belt extender and I had no problem buckling the belt (I even had to tighten it a little!). Then, I had no problem putting down the armrest. For the first time in years, It wasn't tight, it wasn't riding up on my hip, it just went down...and stayed there. Oh glory!! I didn't eat or drink anything other than Water but I just had to bring the tray down...and again...it went down and stayed there. I didn't have to move my belly out of the way, I didn't have to worry it wouldn't go down... Oh the happiness of the ordinary!! I'm even OK with the 1/2 lb. weight gain. I was very aware of portions and did well in that regard but we ate out alot and I know I ate items that were higher in sodium than I usually eat at home so I expect it's probably water weight. I don't care right now...I was like a regular person on the flight and that is so satisfying.

Good for you! What a great NSV!

@@TamaraRae @@jane13 is right. You shouldn't compare to others. But feel free to compare to me.....at that 6 week mark I was down 17 pounds. Next time I weighed at 10 weeks I was still down the same 17 pounds. Now check out my ticker....over 100% excess weight loss and holding strong for over a year and a half. That's why I say your rate of loss has nothing to do with long term success. The NSVs are way more fun to log than numbers anyways!

What about your bras?
mauraclegg replied to Tired of being Tired's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As someone else said my fav NSV was going into VS and getting sized and buying a bra or 2 there. I went from like a 44f to a 36dd. So I did lose some, but the girls are still a healthy size. (I was a DD long before I started gaining weight) -
What's one thing you hope to enjoy after you've lost the weight?
fezik23 replied to fezik23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It would be fun if we all checked back here in a year to report on our progress toward these nsvs. -
Has anyone else noticed their shoes getting too big? I wouldn't have dreamed that would happen, but I guess it make sense since pregnancy can cause the need to buy bigger shoes. Also, I thought of a NSV I'm looking forward to. It will be nice when I can hang my pants on ANY hanger and not have to bypass the ones with the little supports built in. What a journey! I'm much happier taking the time to soak in the sites on my journey rather than focusing only on my destination.

There are no small NSV's. Congrats!
-
Congrats to both of you. My small NSV is the fact that after only 26 pounds I can put my thumb and middle finger all the way around my wrist and touch. I haven't been able to do that in a long time.

YAY YOU! That must've felt great! Love those little NSV's!!! Smiles to you!!!

Such a great feeling!!! Funny that even your hubby thought they would be too small. What a great NSV!!!
