  1. Waist Management

    New Comer

I am so glad I found this group/forum! I have already searched and answered most of my questions. That being said, Thursday is my 2 week appointment and I am hoping I am cleared to move from liquids to the puree stage. Any favorite recipes out there that helped you get through this stage? Thanks in advance
  2. Yes i felt that especially on the day after the surgery .I made the decision in 3 months and made it abruptly. I didnt read any posts so i dont back out. Thank you and yes i need to be kind to myself [emoji847][emoji847][emoji847] Sent from my SM-G975F using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I am about 6weeks out with my Gastric Sleeve. I had the surgery Dec 29,2021. This past week it seems nothing tastes good or right. I’ll get so hungry and ready to eat, take a bite and it just isn’t good and don’t want to eat it. How long does this last? Also, how long till you get over the regret of having the surgery? I will admit it is getting better it isn’t everyday. I went on errands with the family this weekend and totally got off my schedule and so didn’t feel good that evening. So the rest of the weekend totally depressed that I would not be normal again and not be happy again. How long till you feel normal again or even your new normal? Please no negative comments as I don’t need that right now. Thank you for any advice
  4. I have not treated myself with anything in particular, because I never held back from doing what I wanted before. I actually did a month of buying nothing but food in January, and that was great. I realized I had enough clothes from the last time I had lost weight plus some things I had bought in the last few months, so I didn't buy clothes. Unfortunately, this month I've gone back to buying things, although the only clothes I bought were swimsuits (my old one was way too big and I'm going on two trips where I will need them) and some things from a thrift store. I already travel whenever I want; even when I was at my heaviest and needed a seatbelt extender I still traveled for work and pleasure. I haven't figured out what would be a good "treat". I would like it to be something that doesn't end up in a landfill, something more like services. I like getting massages, but I never seem to plan far enough in advance. I'm actually getting one this week when I go to LA for work, because I have a friend there who is a massage therapist. Actually, I just reached a milestone of 100 lbs lost, so I'd like to figure out some way to celebrate that...

    Having sugar free chocolate daily?

Why are you worried about a tablespoon of sugar free ice cream? I assure you this will not affect your weight loss. It has almost no calories. If you start eating the whole carton, then you might reconsider. I have a serving (about 2/3 cup, 79 g) of Breyer's sugar free ice cream every few days as a treat. I don't feel like I need it every day, but I certainly want more than 1 tablespoon when I want it. Everyone's weight will drop and plateau; that's just how weight loss is, whether with surgery or without. This has to be a life-long sustainable journey; you have to enjoy your life or you might just go overboard in reaction to being super strict.
  6. I will be 8 weeks out tomorrow and I have not thrown up yet other than right after surgery. But i have eaten a bite or two to many and it hurts like hell but im still learning my new tummy {I had the sleeve) and its limits. I didnt eat much red meat before surgery so no biggie for me but i honestly tolerate tuna or other fish better than any meat. Again Im still a newbie post op. I wish i could have done this weight loss with diet and exercise but once you get a certain overweight exercise is hard especially since I have severe arthritis. Since post op Im moving better - been grumpy the past few days I have no idea why - but honestly Id take never eating meat over being obese any day of the week. Its a big change for sure! But its worth it. I am down 35 pounds as of today!  i threw up the first 3 days post op but this is pretty common but not everyone does this. My sister is 25 years out bypass and her daughter is out 2-3 years bypass they never throw up.  SW: 227 Todays weight: 192 VS surgery: 12/22/2022 Total Loss 35 pounds

Fallen off the wagon at 3 months post op

I agree with everyone who recommended seeing a therapist. So important. I'm not sure which surgery you had, but as you said you can only eat 3-4 ounces at a time. You're choosing to eat low nutrient foods that isn't going to give you the nutrients you need. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I'm thinking since you are already not taking your health seriously, you aren't taking your vitamins and supplements that your team has recommended. Malnourishment is a real issue with obese people. Because so many binge on fast food, and junk food, they aren't getting proper nourishment. Since we can only eat small amounts, it's vitally important to eat nutrient dense foods. A balanced diet. With wls surgery comes a certain responsibility for ones health, and when you dismiss what your surgeon has told you to do, there will be dire consequences to ones health. Are you tracking your protein? You're only 3 months out. If you're not getting your protein in, there can be hair loss. If you're anemic, you might require blood products. Not minding your calcium, you can encounter fractures. Sure you're losing weight now, it's a caloric game. You probably don't have true hunger due to only being 3 months post op, but you're feeding your head hunger. Seek counseling before your health is adversely affected.

    Having sugar free chocolate daily?

Yes I am the same. Honestly if you are only having a small amount I can't see the harm, personally I have a coke every other day and the same with chocolate. I am still loosing but half a kilo a week
  10. You will be able to have chicken tenders and a diet coke. I can eat 3 KFC tenders but that's all I am full then 😁
  11. So, I have been having some sugar free chocolates (about 35 calories, 5 carbs and 2 fat) or sugar free chocolate ice cream (about 1 tbsp and similar macros) may be few times a week. Would it be too much to do either sugar free chocolate OR 1tbsp of ice cream once a day everyday? I think somewhere they help getting away from same old food schedule. Ofc I also make sure not to go beyond those limits.

    Nausea

I'm not sure why the nausea would still be with you 4 weeks post-op. Maybe call the surgeon's office to ask and maybe get a prescription for nausea medication. It also seems odd that you haven't lost any pounds in 4 weeks. It usually falls off like crazy immediately after surgery. Maybe mention that to your doctor as well. Are you going to the bathroom okay?
  13. Yes! You made the right decision! Everyone has this exact moment you are experiencing now! You will be able to eat again. You will enjoy food. I'm 5 years post and I eat anything I want. It will take time. Focus on the positives and the end game! This feeling of regret only last a few weeks and then your focus will shift to introducing new food, portion sizes and most important your weight loss. Get creative with your protein. Make it a large part of your life. It's an extremely important part of your success. I'm 5 years post surgery and still drink my protein. If you are a coffee drinker.. and some Vanilla ensure or the like to your coffee. It will bring you comfort and fill you up. For me, I focused less on what I wasn't able to eat and more on what I could eat that gave me the most satisfaction. You can sip on coffee for hours. you can only eat a few bites of eggs. Soups were another big thing for me in the beginning. Why? Bc I could get down more and didn't feel deprived. If I felt like I wanted something sweet. I'd suck on an orange wedge. Try different things to take your mind off the negatives.. they will pass. You will be able to eat and enjoy food again! Start weight was 355 and I'm 140 now.
  14. Just remember that it will never be as easy to lose the weight as it is in those first months post op when hunger is not an issue (at least for most). I am 11 months out an just started getting my hunger back and I really wish I had lost all my weight before it came back because I can already tell it is going to be much more difficult going forward. You may be losing while eating bad but you aren’t losing as much as you would if you were on plan. Just know that you will be able to have those forbidden foods again eventually. Maybe not four times a week but definitely in moderation. You have gone through so much to get to this point don’t sell yourself short now. You know exactly what you need to do to get back on track. You seriously have for this.
  15. I am a little over 3 months post-op and have already started going back to some of my old eating habits--ordering take out, not separating eating and drinking, eating junk food. This week, I ended up splurging four different times on junk food I struggled with overeating pre-surgery. Luckily, I can't eat more than 3-4 ounces at a time, and I am still losing pretty quickly (down 45 pounds from surgery and 80 total from when I started losing weight in May of last year). I know that won't last though and am terrified of stretching my pouch. I'd still like to lose another 70 pounds but am having a hard time finding the motivation to exercise regularly and measure portions when I'm losing weight even when I eat terribly. Anyone else dealt with this?

    Eating out after bypass

I am allowed to eat whatever I can tolerate. I'm at 6 months and just had five guys with my family. I had 1/3 of their small protein burger and 3 fries (five guys uses 100% peanut oil which is a heart healthy oil). I know I fill up fast so as always I cut my food in sections (about 112g section for my meal) and set the rest aside for leftovers or to share with someone else. 17. Hi there, I had my sleeve done last Mon (2/7) and spent Mon-Fri wondering why in the world I did what I did. I sounded similar to you. Friday was suddenly a real turning point for me. The pain diminished, and I felt so much better, and that helped me so much emotionally. Tues, We, Thurs, I literally could not see any light at the end of the tunnel and said I made the worst mistake. Please know this: I am now in a totally different place, and that happened over a 24 hour period. I woke up this morning, and while I do have one spot of pain at one incision site, the Tylenol really helps and aside from that I felt totally different. I also read too many horror stories about vomiting, dumping, horrible gas pains, and I had none of that. I retched and heaved a couple of times in the hospital, but not after that. You and I don't get to read the hundreds of people who have NO story, just the ones who reach out for help with horror stories. I'll be honest- those first 72 hours I wasn't ready to hear "hold on, you'll get through this" bec I couldn't see myself even getting though the hour! But now that I'm almost a week out, I feel like I'm in a different world! And it's an amazing feeling! Best of luck to you!!!!! Hang in there and stop reading so much...

    Acid Reflux

You could try splitting your meds into 20mg morning and 20 mg night. I found the first 6 to 8 weeks the worst for reflux. After that things settled down. Or another option nexium in the morning and somax at night

    Nausea

Hello all. I hope you are all doing well. I am 4 weeks post op and on softs now. However, everything that I eat gets me super nauseous. I don’t know what it is. I’m staying in the guidelines of what I can and can’t eat, but I am miserable. I haven’t really lost any weight, but I do see the inches disappearing. Has this happened to anyone? What advice can you give because I am getting very depressed?

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I am hitting 3 months post op. I am down 60 lbs and have been stalled for the last two weeks. I am not too concerned about it since I have read so much about it here. It is certainly a tad frustrating but I feel so much better after losing so much so fast that I can see so many benefits to encourage me. The biggest for me is no more CPAP at night. As far as recovery: I can tolerate all fluids and I tolerated wine. I would say 90% of food sits just fine. I am avoiding high sugar and high fat foods obviously and I don’t really miss them. Fish and veggies are easiest for my system. I can swallow larger pieces of food now which is a huge improvement from the first month. Back then if I didn’t chew 30 times per bite I was headed for disaster. I still eat slowly. I have found that when I go out to dinner I talk everyone into some appetizers and then I eat that during the appetizer course and in place of my meal. I space it out over a couple hours while everyone else enjoys the courses. It works for me and my friends don’t really notice since I am always eating. Who knew you could eat some chicken wings over an hour. But not buffalo. Spicy food is still a no go for me. I have had foamies in the first month but not lately and I have still avoided dumping syndrome. I feel like it is going well and I am getting a lot of compliments. I am waiting to lose another 20 before I start investing in nicer clothes. I am looking forward to that. 3X is a bad memory. 2X I can no longer keep on. XL is getting looser.
  21. you're in what we call the "three week stall" (it doesn't always happen the third week - it can really happy any time within the first six weeks or so after surgery, but most of us have it the third week, hence the name). Probably 90% of us experience that early stall. Just keep following your plan and stay off the scale if you need to. It typically lasts 1-3 weeks, but I've heard of some cases where it's gone longer. Just know that as long as you follow your plan to a "T", the stall will break and you'll be on your way again. if you want to read more about it, do a search on this site of the "three week stall" Last time I checked, there were over 17,000 posts on it. And no, I am NOT kidding...

Just venting, gastric bypass in 1 day.

I didn't really consider the surgery until I had a health issue beyond obesity. Once I became diabetic, it was a no-brainer, and all fear was gone, because I've seen the bad ending with diabetes a couple times. Whatever happened on the table, I'd rather face WLS than diabetes. That I got to stay home for 6 weeks, play video games, and save on groceries, just helped seal the deal. 🤷🏽‍♂️ I do wish I had done the surgery sooner in life, when I was well, as you are now. The decade, and more, prior to the surgery would have been so much different. Best of luck to you.
  23. yes - you will. There are no food restrictions once you get a ways out, and you'll be able to eat much larger portions than you do now (although not as much as you did pre-surgery, unless you want to risk gaining the weight back again). I have no problem going out to eat - it was really only an issue for me the first couple months after surgery. I tend to order meals that include a non-fried protein and some vegetables. I'll sometimes eat a little starch (pasta, potatoes. or bread) - but not much because it sits like a brick in my stomach. Usually whatever I order is an appetizer - or if I do order an entree, I'll eat 1/3 - 1/2 of it and take the rest home. Honestly, that's really not any different than many of my never-been-obese women friends eat. And no one would ever be able to tell I had bariatric surgery at this point - they just assume I'm a "light eater" - if they even notice at all.
  24. as far as choosing a surgery, if you have GERD, you should strongly consider doing the RNY. If you don't, it really comes down to personal preference. They're both good surgeries, and you'll find people on here who've had success with both. you will have to take vitamins forever with either surgery, so I wouldn't use that as a factor for choosing. There are more consequences if you slack off on vitamins if you have bypass, but still, you have to take them either way. My clinic had both sets of patients on the same vitamin regimen - but some clinics have their sleeve patients on fewer vitamins. yes the first few weeks of recovery can be rough, but once you get through that, it's not that hard. Also, once you get out a ways, there are no restricted foods. You'll just be eating less of them than you do now. good luck with your decision. I don't think there's a wrong choice here. I'm very happy I had surgery and just wish I would have done it earlier.
  25. Hello All, I am new and so happy to have discovered this group. I am almost 3 weeks post op now. I have lost about 12 pounds in these first weeks. I have energy now, but some days I do not. I am really struggling to get all the protein shakes in, the stomach medicine, the liquids and not drinking liquids while I am eating is rough. I am happy with my decision and the results so far. I have a fear it will just STOP. Thanks for the group and I look forward to being more active. - JT
