For Exbandsters Who Have Had Positive Weight Loss
BB145 replied to adorablentx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was banded April 2008 and did pretty well as long as my band was tight. I either had too much restriction or not enough. There was really never a happy medium. I spent a lot of my time spitting up what I ate. liquids were even hard to get down most days. I was chronically dehydrated, in my opinion. I lost weight, but I don't feel I was healthy. I didn't eat enough veggies and fruits. I lost around 90 pounds in about 3 years. I was so desperate to lose weight and since I appeared to be having "success", I didn't fix the problem. Over the last several months I have lost pretty much all restriction and have gained weight. I'm thinking I probably have a leak. I have also had some shooting pains in my port area very recently. I've been trying to do it by myself the last several months which is completely asinine because if I could have done it myself, I wouldn't have needed WLS in the first place. How many times over the countless years have I gained and lost the same 80 pounds "on my own"? Too many to count. I'm completely disgusted, mostly with myself, and ashamed. I haven't gained all the weight back, but I can't believe I'm here again. I swore I would never be here again. I've just begun to look into the sleeve. I also swore I would never have a WLS that involved cutting. What if I need that part of my stomach someday? The band seemed so "safe" and completely reversible. But what's the point if I was constantly sick? All of these thoughts bounce around and around in my head. I'm glad to read all of your stories and experiences. I need to learn more about the revision and how it works exactly. I'm going to at least set up a consultation with a surgeon. I'm going to someone else as I didn't care for my band surgeon or his staff. Regardless of whether I have a revision, I know I need to get checked out. I welcome any feedback and/or input. Thanks! -

i was banded in 2008 and lost 100% of my goal weight.... then my band slipped and i got down to a very skeletal weight before having the revision. i didn't know if is should have the revision because i don't need to lose any weight BUT i need help maintaining. i'm 2 weeks post-op and i don't follow the "normal" post-op diet because i can't really afford to lose a lot of weight so i eat as many calories as i can. hopefully i made the right choice! -
Looking for Plastic Surgeon in Bergen County, NJ or NYC
CowgirlJane replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I would do a search on realself.com - look at before and after photos and read reviews. My advice as someone who lost a lot of weight and had plastics - don't worry about it just yet. Stay focused on getting healthy now. When you get to goal, you can do some free consults to give you an idea of what they recommend. good luck! -

does a lower body lift include a tummy tuck?

I had this procedure 10 plus years ago....(Since I have lost 53 pounds, my hour glass figure is starting to re-emerge ) Deb Circumferential abdominoplasty An circumferential abdominoplasty is an extended abdominoplasty plus a buttock lift. The resulting scar runs all the way around the body, and the operation is also called a Belt Lipectomy or Body Lift. This operation is most appropriate for patients who have undergone massive weight loss. -
I haven't had my surgery yet, I am still doing my pre-op diet, its been 2 months now (my surgery has been postponed a few times >.<). On Monday of last week I was 307 and since that day my weight goes up to 309.36, and then down to 306.99. I'll go down 1 pound one day, up 1 pound the next day, or go up and up for a few days and then down, and then up again! (I did have my period until Wednesday). It is so frustrating, I did exercise only twice last week because I wasn't feeling well, the days I didn't exercise I would eat less calories, I have not stopped tracking what I eat in myfitnesspal. I know in my head that to go up I would need to consume 3500 over what I eat, and it takes me 4 days to eat 3500 calories anyway! Is this normal? A stall?

Can someone help me find the medical journal article showing better outcome for WLS patients who have plastic surgery
Alex Brecher replied to ItsMe2033's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Here's a recent article: Body contouring after bariatric surgery helps obese patients keep weight off "Patients who have plastic surgery to reshape their bodies after bariatric procedures are able to maintain "significantly greater" weight loss than those who do not have surgery, according to a new study by Henry Ford Hospital researchers." I think I've gained about that much too. I have been going to weight management and trying to complete all the requirements for surgery since April so I think part of it is losing patience and kinda being over the waiting game. And though 24 days Isn't forever it still just feels too damn far away lol. I really need to get on mostly liquids next week to prepare. What drinks do you use? Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App

I'm like that w the bed, laying flat in bed pulls on my incision. Plastic surgery post op rules vary by docs just like weight loss surgeries postop rules vary. So long as we all get to the finish line, it's ok if we took different paths. I do not want to offend anyone, I will post a few "10 weeks" pics. 1. Left Side: I purposely took this to show the minor incision issue I have there. It's almost healed. Very superficial. The backside one is pinpoint now. I couldn't take a good pic lol. 2. Front view 3. Right Side: the little bump is actually testosterone pellet implant I totally love the results. This is my body that I was meant to have all of my life. Holly

Painful to eat or drink

From past links on this site, it was noted that the pain experienced after plastic surgery is more severe than the pain from minimally invasive (laparoscopic) weight loss surgery. -
Looking For A South/central American Plastic Surgeon

I had a lot of body and face work done last month in Mexico by Dr. Sauceda. He specialized in massive weight loss and has great rates. I was there, under his care for two weeks all inclusive. He has a group over on ObesityHelp dot com. There are a lot of us over there that recently had surgery. He will be in las Vegas in June doing consultations. -
First, I am not a believer in BMI's....my only concern is Body Fat, and how much of my weight is comprised of it... And I had a lot of it..very high %, so much so it was clogging up my arteries, which resulted in some very serious cardiac conditions. So yes, I had WLS because I could not control my hunger, cravings and appetite..... Then, I went to the gym between 5-6am 5 days a week and worked out doing cardio, on an empty stomach...the thinking is to burn energy stored away as body fat opposed to what was recently eaten. All I can say, from first hand experience, it worked...my body fat% is as low as a healthy person would venture to go...in the "Athletic" range. So, in spite of what you may read, what has made you 100% successful??? Did you do it without exercising??

Doesn't it get annoying?
AngelaWilliamsMD replied to missy5099's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I find funny is that when I expressed interest in breast augmentation, my significant other, family, and friends were so encouraging and supportive about me improving my self-esteem. When I mentioned my weight loss surgery plans, you'd think I'd get the same encouragement and support, right? NO! I guess people just don't understand weight loss surgery as a whole, hence the negative backlash against us. -

This is what ponders me. Having VSG, I am noticing women are losing almost 200lbs. and wearing a size four. I am not sure if I want to be that small. I thinking more of a ten for myself. Is there anyway the VSG surgeon can map out what weight you like to be. -
Clavicular Augmentation (smirk) (Cosmetic Surgery topic)
babykins529 replied to GoingforGoal's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I've not had cosmetic surgery done, but I've known a few women who have gotten breast implants and I plan on getting my mid section and breast done after I'm done losing weight. From what I've seen of them and from what they've told me, it is a pretty big shock post op. Especially if you've had a smaller chest and got some pretty big implants. If does take a while for them to settle, but they WILL settle. I remember hugging them a few months afterward and it felt like two rocks were poking my chest. I was like, man if thats what they feel like, count me out! But then after about a year, they were lower and felt more "normal". I dont need bigger breasts, I need fhem put back to where they should be and filled out more, but I want smaller breasts. I've had C's since I was 12 and I wasn't a big girl. Now i have trip E's (down from F's pre band) So I will have to do some major research and look at a lot of pictures and talk to a few surgeon's before I decide on what I would like my eventual chest to look like. -
Referred to behavioral mod classes before surgery.
onelove756 replied to Angelsma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight loss program in Central Massachusetts requires everyone to complete a 6 week behavioral medicine class and a 1 month follow up after the class as one of the steps for qualifying for surgery. They really emphasize the comprehensive approach to weight loss so they want to make sure they get that piece in to help with the mental part of the surgery. -
1. Did your insurance pay for plastic surgery after your weight loss? 2. What hoops did you have to jump through, if any to get your insurance to cover your plastic surgery? 3. What type of plastic surgery did your insurance cover? Any other information would be great. I need to find out if my insurance will cover and need to know the right questions to ask and how to word my questions. TIA.

Fantastic! Go for it! You will be surprised at how much weight that hanging skin is. -
LOL, Afro Cyster!!! I'm doing very basic arm exercises (and I still have flaps, btw). I do two sets of 15 reps MWF and I do bicep curls, skull crushers, straight arm lifts, and triceps curls. I googled exercises for obese beginners and came up with a couple of good youtube videos that helped me get my form right. I'm using baby weights, 3 pounds, because I want to firm and tone, so more sets of higher reps rather than increasing the weight. I'm probably still gonna end up looking like a flying squirrel, but I'll have some muscle in my arms.

Lady, don't be so hard on yourself. You didn't gain it overnight and as a slow loser you aren't going to lose it overnight. There are many good suggestions here. I, too, am a slow loser and have lost the same as you but was banded 10/7. I was getting discouraged but read here daily to get positive reinforcement and ideas. We will make it. Best wishes, Mimi

I had my lap band done about 3 years ago, i lost some weight but i have gained it back, even morethan my original weight from when i first got banded. In the past few months i have developed excess hanging fat on both sides of my front private area and on top, it bothers me so much, it feeks as if i have a footbal between my legs. What can i do about this, it hurts and i am desperate, would this be cosmetic surgery or a seroius medical procedure, please give me advise. I do have insurance and it paid my lapband 100%, i had already met my yearly deductible when i got it done. I am hoping my insurance will cover it since i dont have the money to oay fir cosmetic surgery.

Lifting 3 pounds of weights isn't really vigorous, but it does make my arm muscles a little tired after all the reps I do. My doc said no weights until I was six weeks out, to make sure I didn't injure my new sleeve. Ask your doc for his recommendation. Mine is helping a bit. I can see some definition starting. Of course, I think anything would help me since I was so heavy before!

I was banded on May 16th of this year.Had 6 fills with a total of 7.3 cc in an 11 cc band.Lost a total of 67 lbs.Good huh??Well today I found out my band has a leak near the band itself.Doc said 2 things could have happened 1 the band had a leak wene it was placed during surgery or 2 wene the surgeon who put it in out in Las Vegas nicked it wene he was sewing it to my stomach. Now I have to go back out to Vegas(I live in Arkansas) and have it replaced.ow its no fault of mine so I dont know whats gonna happen. My question is this...Has anyone else had to have a band replaced and If so what do I have in store for myself? Is the surgery the same,do I have to do a post op diet AGAIN,just really any info is much needed and appreciated.Really depressed about this and in complete awww that I lost this much weight with a leaky band....Help with info please.Thanks.

Fibromyalgia; Arthritis; Nerve Pain
doxieville replied to mokee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I totally respect other peoples posts here, but I need to respond to blackdahlias post. While reading my response, PLEASE keep in mind that I am NOT bashing her opinion. I am so tired of people on this forum thinking because we post diff opinions that we are bashing the person and that's just not true. We all learn here by different people posting diff stories. Anyway....i have Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA.). I had it for 20 plus years. I was lucky because my blood work showed a positive RA factor. People can have RA w/o a positive. Doctors need to look at symptoms also. Blackdahlias friends story is sad. What I suspect happened was a misdiagnosis. However, RA is VERY destructive left untreated. So with her weight loss and discovery of RA, I hope that she is receiving treatment. IMO, WLS saved her life. RA left untreated will attack your internal organs and can lead to heart disease and death. I've lost 2 friends to this and it's horrific. I sincerely hope that anyone who has more joint pain w WLS is persistent in getting a proper diagnosis. Keeping weight on really isn't healthy, no matter what. I had my WLS 8 weeks ago, gall bladder surgery 7 weeks ago. I cannot yet go back on my medication, and ordinarily I'd be in a nasty flare. To my and my doctors surprise, I have not yet flared!! I think it may be due to eating very low carb and the inflammation is being kept under control. It won't last forever w/o drugs, but I'm enjoying the honeymoon while it lasts. :-)
