    June Surgeries

Just checking in! 12 days post op and I think I'm hitting my first stall. Doing my best to remind myself it happens to everyone and just keep on plan and the scale will start dropping again. Overall down 14lbs since surgery on the 8th. So even if a stall for a week or more, that's still an excellent start The reason I think I'm stalling is cause today is the first day I haven't had a loss. My weight is dead on the same as it was yesterday. It's a bummer cause I almost got down into the 240s (I'm 251.4!), but it will pass! Oh, also.. I did some puree "taco" stuff. I basically threw taco seasoned turkey meat, guacamole, sour cream, and refried beans into a blender. The texture was kinda ick. If any of you do this on your pureed diet, I would instead recommend pureeing only the taco meat, then adding that to the other stuff, since it's already pureed. Texture is a lot more tolerable that way.
  2. Hi guys. I had my surgery on May 18. Until a week ago things were going GREAT. Last Friday I started feeling SUPER full once I started drinking again after a meal. I thought maybe i was slacking and drinking too soon after eating. But it is happening even when I wait a full 30 minutes after eating. I mean sick super full, need to throw up to relieve the discomfort, super full. It doesn't happen all the time, and it seems to be happening mostly after eating tuna salad and any kind of chicken. My 2 main questions are: 1) does anyone have to weight an hour after eating to drink again? And 2) could it be that I wasn't ready for the tuna and the chicken? Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!

Ditto here! Only told a few people closest to me. I got a couple of comments about losing weight this week when I went back to work and I said that my Dr. put me on a medically supervised weight loss plan and I've also given up wine for a while. Both are technically true... I don't think it will fail, but I also don't need people in my personal business.

I just had my surgery on Tuesday 6/15/2021, started the whole process last July after 6+ years of debating it. I'm currently on a 2 week liquid post op diet (I never wanna see another soup again in my life after 4 weeks of soup!). Post op hasn't been that terrible actually, that was the scariest part for me before doing it. I thought it would be SO painful the way people described it to me, and I thought I would just be miserable. The first 2 days post op were the worst but walk! You won't want to, but that helps SO MUCH with EVERYTHING, gas pains, stomach muscle pain, boredom lol. I have friends and family who have done this and only know 2 who have not gained all of their weight back which was a little discouraging but I refuse to be one of those people who this fails for. I just found this forum yesterday and I'm so glad I did.

    6 Months and Stalled

It was breaking and at tons of different lengths so I had to cut it and some spots are looking super thin! Since Ontario is still locked up, my husband attempted a cut... I had to shave it pretty short to save that. LOL! I am sorry to hear you are in the same boat as me. I am starting to use Diet Doctor's meal planning so hopefully just really watching what I am eating will help. I hear you. To be fair, I stopped right around the same time as we moved and I stopped tracking my intake. I might have bumped my count into maintenance. I am starting to track again this week. I don't feel like I was overdoing it, but I might have surprised myself as I am more careful when I actually see the numbers. Photo below showing off the haircut I had to resort to and a massive change in fit on one of my favourite sweaters from before. First photo was the day I made the top and how long it was, right around my heaviest weight. Second photo was a couple days ago. Lol, I might have shrunk in height cause its a dress now!

Reactive hypoglycemia, anemia, and PS updates

I have definitely had the hungry/not hungry feeling since surgery, so I totally get where you are coming from @Arabesque! 🥰 Anything too greasy has been completely unpalatable. I am very thankful I tolerate protein bars and shakes or I would be in a bad place for getting enough protein. I know I need protein to heal, but meat has not sounded good at all since surgery. We had dinner at some friends’ house last week. They served salmon and flank steak. I only manage a couple bites of the steak and gave the rest to Husband. I managed about 2 ounces of the salmon. 🤷‍♀️ I bought a jar of no stir peanut butter to keep at work to eat with fruit. The fat and protein should help with the reactive hypoglycemia to stabilize my blood sugar from the fruit. 🤞🏻🤞🏻I also have walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, dips, cheeses. I already use high protein milk for my protein shakes, so they are protein packed. My goal is to maintain my weight at 130-135. I need to gain a pound 🤣🤣 I plan to start working out as soon as I am healed, which will help with appetite, but conversely burn those extra calories. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷‍♀️ So many skinny girl problems! 🤣😂🤣

    6 Months and Stalled

I am in the same boat, same height and same weight loss, I stopped loosing around 9 months, it has been two years, I have maintained the weight, I still usually eat under 1000 calories and I do not loose, I have 60 more I want to take off. My hair did the same but finally coming back, I had a lot of hair so it looked straggly but didn't look bald, after 2 years it is getting more full.

    No pleasure at eating anymore

there will come a time when you can eat all those things again (as long as your stomach tolerates them), but in much smaller amounts than you could pre-surgery. I had no hunger or interest in eating food for the first five months after surgery. After that, my hunger came back. Honestly, in some ways I wish my hunger HADN'T come back. Although eating was somewhat of a chore those first five months, it was super easy to lose weight because I had no interest in food. Easier than it ever had been in my life... for most people, hunger and interest in food DOES come back. Just give it time. Unfortunately, the return of hunger does make it more challenging to stick to your program, so you'll need to be diligent when it returns.

  10. Snap! I’ve lost about a kilogram (about 2lbs) in the almost 3 weeks post surgery too @WishMeSmaller. Just wrote about it OOTD. Was 49 day of surgery. 51. 5 two days after surgery (fluids) & hover around 47.9 - 48.2 now. It’s because I’m hungry but not hungry & don’t know what I want to eat. (Plus I’ve had diarrhoea from body getting used to not having a gall.) Do you feel the same? I’ve just put it down to getting over having surgery & that it’s temporary. It’s odd how every pound we lose seems to mean so much more when we’re on the lower end of the scale. Three weeks ago my surgeon was happy with my weight. Yesterday, he says I have to put on weight all because of one kg. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Finding that balance in maintenance is hard. I just added more snacks though it’s a challenge when you’re working to keep eating. I snack 4 or 5 x a day on combinations of peanut paste, multigrain crackers, yoghurt, cheese, chia pudding, fruit & protein bar. I also added non diet salad dressing & a little honey to my porridge. Because I detested protein powders & shakes my dietician suggested enriching my milk with powdered milk - extra calories & protein. I found it too sweet with my porridge but it worked well with chia pudding. I had a couple of hypoglycaemic events before my weight finally stabilised. I find I just have to eat regularly & keep my fluids up. I usually carry a protein bar with me. I did have an event a month ago - my fault - standing way too long in a crazy long queue & needed food & water. Hopefully you’ll work out what you need to manage yours or it sorts itself out when your weight stabilises too. Love the bikini pxts. You look so good.

    What was your tipping point?

My tipping point was March of this year, about two weeks after I had my gall bladder surgery. I was sitting on the couch, bored out of my brain because I had a 5lb weight restriction and I couldn’t do anything I wanted to do. I realized that if I didn’t do something, this was going to be my life in the future. I didn’t want that, so I looked up the local clinic and away I went. Surgery scheduled for July 13 now and I’m getting all my ducks in a row. Trying to finish my house remodel before the date—extreme nesting, you might call it.

How much weight training is enough

I've been bodybuilding on and off for 23 years and I can assure you that resistance exercise + Low intensity cardio + the ideal amount of protein intake (as part of a balanced Macro combination) will definitely help you keep the fat off in the long-run. Notice here that I used the word 'fat' and not 'weight' (weight includes fat & muscle). If you manage to gain a few pounds on the scale while making sure your calorie and macros consumption are in check, then it is most probably an increase in muscle mass, not fat mass. How can you know for sure? Make sure you measure your body composition (Fat %, Fat weight, Lean Muscle weight etc) before you start carrying weights. Then measure again at the end of the month. Then compare. You'll be surprised sometimes to see that the weight scale hardly moves as your muscle mass replaces fat mass. Aesthetically though, you'll look much better when muscle gets packed on (as long as you dont gain fat 🙏). I advise to google ' Body Recomposition' if you want to accomplish any of the following goals/scenarios: Building muscle while simultaneously losing fat Building muscle while maintaining body fat mass Losing fat while maintaining muscle mass And the best literature I've read on Body Recomposition is by Jeff Nippard. He'll set you straight and make you an expert in no time. Oh yeah and carrying weights 3 times a day , on alternate days for 8 weeks is an excellent starting program. Good luck Jaye
  13. Hi y’all! I’m Brittany. I’m a stay at home wife and mom of two littles. I suffer from hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, PCOS and a benign pituitary tumor, all of which affect my weight and overall quality of life. I have wanted to have gastric surgery for upwards of 11 years, but the timing was never right. After several failed attempts at losing weight, I finally decided it was time to get serious about surgery. I joined a couple of bariatric pages on Facebook, and just sat back and watched for several months. I initially reached out to a surgeon here in San Antonio, but after learning that my insurance wouldn’t cover the surgery and realizing the cost of the procedure out of pocket, I became very discouraged. However, I had read many testimonials of people who went to Mexico to have their surgery performed. I kept hearing of one place in particular, Oasis of Hope in Tijuana. After doing loads of research, I decided to reach out to them. Within a couple of weeks, I had my surgery date for June 1st! I began my pre-op diet 30 days before surgery. The LSD was a total of 25 days, and the clear liquids phase was a total of 5. The liquid phase is NO JOKE. That ish is ROUGH. 😆 I’m now 17 days post-op and have lost a total of 31 pounds! It’s a struggle to get my protein and liquids in, as I still haven’t learned the tricks to making sure what I’m eating doesn’t cause discomfort. I am quite fatigued, and am considering going to have IV therapy to get me over this hump. However, I’m still so happy with my decision, and I am so excited to see what the future holds!

    6 Months and Stalled

you may have to come down a bit on a calories or bump up your exercise to get the scale moving again. Six weeks is starting to get a bit long for a stall. As for weight loss, your body may not be done. I kept losing until I was 20 months out.

    6 Months and Stalled

Hi, im just over 4 months out from RNY and i also have been in a stall for around 6 weeks then iv just lost 2 pounds was devastated thought i would of lost alot more, think my body it just trying to hold onto the weight. My hair is also falling out alot, only noticed it this past month or so, iv had to upgrade my hoover to a shark antihair wrap as all the hair was wrapping around my other hoover and i was forever unclogging the brush bar. Wish i could lose weight as well as im losing my hair lol.

Reactive hypoglycemia, anemia, and PS updates

Typically, probably so, but I was very thin prior to surgery, so total weight of skin removed was less than 2 pounds and I got some back with the breast implants. Prior to PS my weight was 132. About 5-6 days after surgery my weight was 136 (water weight from IV fluids and swelling). Now at 3 weeks post-op I am 129. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
  19. I have been stalled for about 6 weeks. So, from about the 5.5 month mark until almost 7 months out from bypass. I don't know what to do to break this stall and it's starting to feel like maybe this is just the end of the weight loss from surgery? I am down 73lbs which I know is a lot, but I still have a lot to go. At 5,2 I should be 110-130 and that's 80-100lbs away. Any suggestions? Encouragement? Also, I am loosing horrendous amounts of hair. Have been for almost 4 months! I thought that was supposed to end after 3 months or so of loosing hair.

Reactive hypoglycemia, anemia, and PS updates

Maintenance…🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ I reached goal about 4 months ago. I have continued to lose since then. I have been trying to stop/slow weight loss for over two months now, but my body does not want to stop. I am very fortunate that my pain was minimal and manageable. I walked 3 miles over the course of a day about 3 days post-op. I was very uncomfortable due to sitting on the loose skin on my butt prior to surgery. So glad it is gone. The rest was cosmetic only. 😊
  21. Wouldn’t it be typical to loose weight after skin removal?
  22. So I had plastic surgery 3 weeks ago tomorrow. My surgery included belt lipectomy/360 tummy tuck, and breast lift with augmentation. Recovery has been tougher than I expected due to fatigue. I went back to work (RN in a large clinic) last Monday. The fatigue was unreal. On Tuesday, one of the doctors I work with decided I should be checked for anemia. I popped over to our lab and had a quick blood draw. I had finished lunch about 45 prior to getting the blood drawn. The next day when I received my lab results, I was surprised to see my blood glucose was 59. 😲 I do not dump, so I have been eating more simple carbs and sugars to try to keep from losing more weight. I had been eating some candy on Tuesday prior to lunch. Apparently, I have reactive hypoglycemia. No more simple carbs and sugars for me, except small amounts with meals. The bummer part of this, (aside from feeling extra crappy with low blood sugars), is that I am really anxious about not losing any more weight and don’t know how I am going to keep the weight on without the extra calories. I guess I need to increase healthy fats to make sure I keep my calories up. With that said, I have lost about 3 pounds since my plastic surgery. I never thought I would be stressed about losing weight. 🙄🤷‍♀️ I have an appointment with my surgeon’s office in a week and I am looking forward to discussing this with them. My labs also show some iron deficient anemia. I was not iron deficient nor anemic prior to plastics, so this is directly related to blood loss in surgery, and fairly simple to correct with diet and iron supplements (I don’t normally take any iron supplements). Over all, I am doing very well post-plastics. My pain has really been minimal since about day 3 post-plastics. I have had a bit of trouble with my incisions separating (dehiscence) in a few small spots. My husband is a wound nurse, so we have been managing the wound care with pretty good results. I am thrilled to have breasts again after going from a 40 DD to a 34 A. 😬😬😬 Anyhow, here are bikini pics to show off my post-plastics body…swelling included. 😂

    VSG revision to Bypass 5/27/21

@catwoman7 I actually told my physician the same thing! I asked if he really did the surgery because I felt so good afterwards (aside from the stitch pulling pain now). @Lynnlovesthebeach I guess because I felt so horrible after the VSG and could barely keep anything down, I expected worse for the bypass. When seeing my new physician for the bypass he actually found that the VSG was not done correctly in the first place and that's probably why I had such trouble afterwards. @Creekimp13 I do see a therapist. I think I will always struggle with weight/eating issues regardless. Work in progress!
  24. I called the surgery center at the beginning of January and met with the surgeon in early February. I finished the four monthly stupid insurance required nutrition classes ("did you know french fries are unhealthy???") a few weeks ago and I still don't have a date for my surgery. All elective surgeries were on hold until April due to COVID so everyone whose surgery was cancelled or delayed has to be scheduled first. I had lost 39 lbs but then I got scared that my BMI would go too low if my surgery was going to be not for a few more months so when I visited my family I threw a few food funerals and gained 3 lbs and now I'm so angry at myself. I'm back on track now, but the weight isn't coming off. The surgery center isn't answering my questions at all at this point and I'm so frustrated. I know they're understaffed, and when the admin has called me back she's been so apologetic and so nice and helpful. I don't want to start over again, and everyone has been so nice and helpful at every interaction, it's just that I feel like I have so many unanswered questions and I want to just do this already!
  25. Hi. I guess I should've posted this question in the Revision Forum instead of the Gastric Bypass. So here it is again lol. I had a lap band and then revised to sleeve. Lost over 100 lbs with band and then 40 something more with sleeve. I have to have a revision due to gerd and other complications from my sleeve. Luckily, I did not lose any of my hair on either procedures listed above... And I know losing weight is much slower after each revision so maybe I'll be lucky again this time around. I was wondering if any of you lost your hair after revising from sleeve to bypass. Thank you in advance.
