    Introducing myself

Kendra, I understand where you are coming from... In 2003 I had gastric bypass and list a total of 150lbs, but started having some health issues which cause me to be placed on a lot of medicines including steroids which cause you to gain weight. ...I regained all plus some. I found a great doctor and just had a revision done 3 weeks ago... You can get there, I have learned through therapy and pre surgery support groups that we deal with alot of mental issues that we didn't think we had... I wish you all the best..
  2. i have not kept it a secret as such, as most ppl in my circle have known about my health problems for some time and while I only have told my family and close aunt/uncle and friends and colleagues (close) about my sleeve, it doesn't mean that if anyone should ask me or tell me that i'm looking great that I wont share this info. I am more than happy to advise them of what I have done as everyone knew I had the lapband and everyone knew that I had a terrible time with it for such a long time (4 years) - I had the revision done last year to sleeve.. and life is just so good!!

    What would you do ?

Sleeve is different. For me...I didn't lose with band well at all but sleeve I lost half my body weight and normal size now. I guess it is less about restriction. .and indeed you have no food restrictions. It takes alot from you...and I think low carb helps. You asked what I'd do. Not sure I would revise the sleeve. Don't know what you weigh but 10 isn't that much. I'd either try to make current sleeve work or revise to DS.

    WLS Revisions?

Just a follow up. I am now 4 months into the process of trying to have a revision WLS. My doctor has recommend I have a Lap Band done after getting the results for my endo. The visits with the nutritionist have been going well. My doctor has submitted my info to my issue carrier BCBS to get approval. They came back with they wanted more information from my prior surgery as well as receipt from any diet I have tried. I just submitted receipt and am waiting for my prior doctor to fax over my records to my current doctor. Once that is done they will be resubmitting soon. I should know more by next week. Crossing my fingers BCBS approves everything.

    What would you do ?

So here is the short version of my story. Banded 2007 did great lost weight kept it off, decided to revise to sleeve in 2013 because of how "great" everyone said it was and also honestly I was tired of feeling stuck for 6 years and just wanted to feel full for once. Since my revision Iv gained 10lbs, Iv felt hungrier (physically) than I ever did with the band (my stomach actually growls now !) and I can eat very large portions. Iv checked my X-rays and I know my sleeve is much larger than it should be and that my doc used a 42 Bougie and went very liberal at that. Iv obsessively researched options for revising the sleeve and Iv found a surgeon who is very experienced with this and who I feel good about. The question is, Iv had 2 prior surgeries with zero complications, is it crazy to risk it a third time ?? What would you do ?

    POST OP DRAIN

Depends on the doctor. I was told usually sleeve patients don't have drains but they gave a lot of lap band revisions to bypass drains. Sometimes it's gone before discharge and others have to go home with it. I didn't have a drain or a catheter when I woke in the hospital.
  9. I had my revision surgery through Cigna. Good luck to you !!

    Marginal Ulcer

I have been diagnosed with a marginal ulcer. This is the second ulcer I have gotten. This one is real large. The GI Dr said it's due to a large gastric pouch. He says it's releasing a lot of acid. I've been on Prilosec 40mg since my second surgery (2nd hernia repair) which took place 2 months after my RNY. I have also used Carafate and now taking 2 different antibiotics. I am now being referred to another bariatric specialist. Surgery (revision) seems to be the only fix at the moment. Has anyone else experienced this??? RNY 7/11/2014 HW 300 8/28/2013 SW 276 7/1/2014 CW 182 3/10/2015 GW 176

    Any December 30th Sleevers ?!

I was sleeved Dec 29th. I have been stuck at the same weight 3 weeks. So frustrated! I have only lost 20 since the surgery. I did not have much to lose. I was a revision from the lapband. Start 207 now 187. Goal 155. I use the fit bit very easy to track and hit my goals. But the scale.....it's being stubborn! Any suggestions?
  13. Bewell, Thank you so much for the information, it really helped. I have dilation of the esophagus and pouch and see a surgeon this Wednesday to seek band to sleeve revision. I was one of the lucky ones where the band helped me loose over 100 lbs. I have, however, gained 30 lbs.and recently discovered the issue with my esophagus and pouch. I'm excited about the sleeve, but, a little scared. I won't know exactly what happens next til this Wednesday, but, I can't wait to get on with my weight loss journey. Thanks again for the information. jake
  14. Hello everyone, I am new here. I was banded in Mexico by Dr. Jose Rodriguez in Acuna Mexico in 2004. I was never able to have a successful fill and have gained almost 80 pounds since my surgery. I want to have a revision to a sleeve, but do not know if a doctor here would do it. I do not have any kind of operative records or anything. I really want to get this thing out, I am constantly getting stuck and throwing up, I can't live like this anymore! Has anyone had a similar situation and had a surgeon here do it and insurance cover it? Any information or stories would be greatly appreciated! I am in South Bend, IN. Thanks so much!!
  15. Glad you are asking questions and checking weight loss surgery (WLS) out. This is a great place to get a lot of opinions! Here is one more opinion---I had continual complications with my lap band for 10 yrs and just had a revision to sleeve in jan. Short story of lap-band-I hurt every minute of those 10 yrs. Now for the 1st time in 10 yrs my stomach and belly does not hurt. And that is after major sleeve surgery. I just heard this and wish I had heard it 10 yrs before........when you look at the statistics for complications after 3 months after WLS surgery, the lap-band has the most ongoing complications and problems. Yes, the others sleeve, bypass etc have more in the first 3 months but the band by far has the most after. A foreign body in your belly that can slip, erode, get covered in scar tissue...a port that turns and hurts.....well just had to say that. As for cooking----I never cooked before my sleeve and now I am! I'm always looking for receipts that are healthy and taste good, easy to make, and can be made in small batches. It's still early in my sleeve life but I think cooking will be fun Zakly, I bet as a chief you can cook up an amazing book of receipts for us WLS folks.

Daily carb intake for post ops

Im a post op and have to have a revision thanks to the military docs that did my surgery. I did 30 or less prior to moving to Kansas. The nutritionist here thinks im crazy. She says the brain and body can't function on that amount. I want to be successful and lose my regain and keep it off. Thanks for helping.
  17. I have ponied up and am having revision Friday
  18. So after being so disappointed with my insurance company denying my revision surgery, i got some much needed support from my advocate. She reassured me that we would find a way to get it approved. She also had me write a plea letter and has sent out all the information needed for appeal. I am praying that the decision is overturned and that ill be having surgery soon. The pain from this band is sometimes more than i can take and i struggle with it everyday. For now, i will try to continue to look on the bright side and know that this fight is not over yet!
  19. I had a revision to a gastric bypass done in 2000 exactly one week ago. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there who has had "endo stitch" revision to Rny gastric bypass? I am needing to find out what you are eating and how much?

  21. I am having a revision on Mar. 18. I had my stomach stapled back in 1989. 25 years ago. I om having an open revision to gastric bypass. I am nervous about the recovery afterward. i had an open surgery the first time with a scar from just to the right of my breastbone, to below my belly button. I don't know how big the incision will be this time. I know it is worth it. I have a good idea of what life is like after surgery, since my first attempt was very successful for two years. Back then, I went from 265 to 155. I weigh much more this time, but I am older and wiser, so I hope I can maintain the weight loss this time. The surgeon said the procedure they did back then usually failed after a few years, so I don't feel quite as guilty about regaining the weight as I did for the past 23 years! I feel strong and ready for change. I am so glad I finally got the courage to pursue this surgery.
  22. I had a lap band for 10 years with constant complications. Also gained all the weight (50 lbs) back and then some (15+). Just did lap-band to sleeve revision in one surgery 8 weeks ago. I am too new to give long-term advice but I a so happy to have that "THING" out of me. From day one after sleeve surgery I felt better and today it feels so good not to have content pain from the lap band. But what I can tell you is that for me, eating with the sleeve is very different than a lap-band. With the band, if I could chew it long enough I could eat most anything and usually a lot more than I needed. But when I moved to food with the sleeve, I kept eating too much, and would vomit. The lap band gave me an immediate notice if I didn't chew or ate too fast. But not so with the sleeve. My tiny sleeved stomach would fill up with such a SMALL amount of food post-op. Like 2 level tablespoons full. Eating too much might only be ONE teaspoon too much. Our new swollen tummy is very small and tender. So be prepared that eating is different with a sleeve than a band. At least for me it was. And unfortunately, I was a slow learner!

BMI 35 or lower. Would you sleeve or bypass?

I was a revision from band to bypass. I never even considered the sleeve. I only wanted one last surgery.. After seeing the sleeve to bypass revision board I knew I would only do the bypass.. And I love it

    Worried it wont work

@@glitter eyes This is such a great thread. I needed to hear this. I am a recent lap-band to sleeve revision. 10 years with lap-band complications! I am terrified after the sleeve surgery is healed, it won't work because it doesn't hurt all the time like my lap band did. Doesn't help that I've been on a weight loss stall for a week. Hearing about all of this long-term success, combined with focus and hard work AND the sleeve, I am feeling relieved. My eyes are set on the long-term goal----an active rest of my life time at a normal weight, with daily vigilance about what I eat and staying active. I can do it and it WILL WORK!! Thank you!!
  25. I had the band in 2008 and lost all my weight.. In April 2014 I found out it has eroded.. I had a revision from band to bypass on May 21 2014. It is awesome! I wish I had the bypass first! It is awesome. I have had no problems. I'm at a normal BMI. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
