What was your post-op diet like?
imjenn replied to imjenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got it described to me as anything without chunks that can slide off the end of a spoon. I've been doing cream soups and jello and cream of wheat and yogurt mostly! -
8lbs down!! I started at 235 and in 9 days I'm down to 227! My experiences are interestingly unexpected. I'm still on the full liquid diet and I'm starving!! I know about heading hunger but it's not that, I'm legitimately hungry, to the point I get irritable. It takes a thinker soup or yogurt to make me satisfied. Luckily it takes me 2-6oz to be satisfied so I'm happy with that. That's another thing is, I'm never full! I'm just..... Done. My food just loses its appeal and I just stop, I'm good. I still experience some nausea but it comes on around 2:30pm-3:00pm so I take zophran. I don't know why it happens at that time, it just does. The really strange thing is, i now experiencing insomnia. I'll be extremely tired, I'll get ready for bed and then lay there for hours. Then I wake up early and I'm wide awake. It makes no sense but I thought I'd share all of this, maybe some of you can relate. :-)

How can I be stalled at 10 days post surgery
trishaz posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so frustrated this morning. As if yesterday morning wasn't bad enough when I weighed and the scales had not moved - this morning I got on and they still haven't moved. (I lost 15 pounds in the first 8 days) I am only 10 days post surgery and it seems I have already hit a stall and I don't understand. I am still on liquids and barely consuming anything. This week I have tried to add in a little more Protein via sipping two Protein drinks throughout the day - (160 calories each and 1 gram of sugar) - I have added a little greek yogurt, and sugar free Jello as well..... (about a tablespoon a couple times a day).... Plus I am trying to increase my walking each day - yesterday my Fitbit registered just over 6500 steps...... I don't get it. How can I possibly not be losing? It just doesn't make sense to me...and very hard to wrap my head around mentally. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. -

Since you are so limited in what you can have you may just need to eat individual foods (rather than recipes/combinations). Ex. Yogurt, turkey/cheese roll ups, cottage cheese, etc. Can you use herbs, spices, and seasonings? Can you do grilled or baked fish or shrimp? Since your surgeon is so strict maybe your NUT can provide you with some ideas.

Motorcycling and gastric bypass.
Kayzeekat replied to GAWildKat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I ride too. I am 9 months out and always have nuts and a protein bar or shake on hand. Just in case they stop somewhere I can't eat. I have a small insulated lunch bag and have taken yogurt and boiled eggs, I put a freeze pack in it and it stays cold. -
Sorry to hear some of you girls are having a difficult time with the eggs. I'm not much of a scrambled egg fan. I find them to be dry and tasteless. That's probably why I love eating my quiche because it's super moist. I'm still switching up the different meats and seasonings in my Magic Crust Quiche recipe to have a variety of flavors. I just find it a complete balanced meal that provides me with 12 grams of protein and I haven't had a single issue with swallowing the delicious 2" x 2 1/2" piece at each of my meals. It takes a lil awhile to prep and an hour to cook but once that's behind you, you're left with 12 servings. The best part is I can make meals for my hubby and son and my meal takes only 1 min 10 sec in the microwave and it's ready!!! I love reading what everyone's doctor or centers. Here are the guidelines I was given at Mayo for my days 15-60: Stage 3: Mechanically Altered Diet (day 15-60 after surgery) The Stage 3 diet includes small, distinct pieces of tender and easily chewed food that is low in fat and sugar. The meat must be ground or flaked and other foods must be chopped or diced into small pieces. Amount: 1/2 to 1/3 cup per meal Recommended foods: Soups: Broth, bouillon, low-fat cream soup Liquids: Water, non-calorie, non-carbonated, caffeine-free beverages Meats & Meat substitutes: Ground lean poultry; flaked fish; eggs; low-fat cottage cheese, low-fat cheese; casseroles made with ground meat and soft coked vegetables without hulls or tough skins Milk: Skim or 1% milk, sugar-free, low-fat yogurt without fruits, nuts or seeds Starches: Cooked, refined, dry cereal; potatoes (without skin) Vegetables: Soft cooked vegetables without hulls or tough skin; vegetable juice Fruits: Unsweetened, cooked or canned fruits, bananas, tender melon, ripe peaches or pears. All fruits without seeds or skins Other: Sugar-free gelatins or popsicles; sugar-free, low-fat frozen yogurt, custard and pudding (without nuts)

try purée diet first then ease into only liquid diet at least three days strong before surgery. Light yogurt, cottage cheese, apple sauce, I even have protein coffee.. Il post the recipe on my thread along with a hot chocolate protein that is like being on liquid diet. Don't give up.. It gets a little easier after surgery to stay on the liquid diet and ease into purée stage.

Sleeved April 27 and on Pureed foods, who is with me
BlueRose replied to judyoz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on April 29th. I am on purée for 3 more weeks. I've pretty much been living on plain greek yogurt with a tsp of sf syrup mixed in, cottage cheese and shakes. Yesterday I tried part skim ricotta mixed with a little tomato sauce. On Monday I made some chicken salad and puréed it....then I was in horrible pain after eating it. Lesson learned! Good news today from my post op appointment. I have lost 17lbs since my surgery date. -
My Nut has me eating every 3-4 hours, right now two protein shakes, 4-6 oz. and then two meals of soft protein, I usually have Greek yogurt, turkey chili, tuna or canned chicken with miracle whip, re fried beans with cheese are a few things I do. Going to NUT appointment tomorrow I'm hoping to be moved to next phase which includes some grains and fruit/veggies. My surgery date was 4/20. So far down 27lbs. Post op!! ????

I was sleeved the 27th and I tried some tuna salad last night .., ugh my stomach isn't happy so back on yogurt today ???? -
When you were finally able to eat something, what did you go for? Even if it had to be pureed or soft...what did you make for your first non-liquid item? I just am looking forward to a different flavor than Protein shakes and yogurt...something savory and not sweet will be amazing.

10 Days Post - Doctor says I'm exceeding expectations!
Maierland posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
After the first 4 days that were not fun, things turned around. Over the last 3 weeks, I have lost 18% of my fat. Everything seems to be working as expected. No pain. Taking a Zantac meds and it is helping me so much. I did find out that I screwed up my meal plans. Before surgery, I was allowed shakes, yogurt, oatmeal, Jello, ricotta cheese in my liquid phase. I only had 1 day of clear liquids before surgery. So when I came home on day 2, I had a yogurt. 2-3 small spoons. I have been eating 200 - 400 calories ever since. Today I found out that was a no-no. But he said it didn't hurt me. He said it is mostly about tolerance. And if I was tolerating it fine then I could continue. Tomorrow I can add anything I can puree and tolerate. I'm not advocating my screw up. So please don't take it that way. I am just very happy with my decisions to do this surgery. My energy is supper high. My attitude is great. My family is really helping me. I do have a thought that is helping me with my attitude. I was thinking about getting a new car, or furniture, or somthing like that. You take care of that item extra careful. That is how I feel about my new little banana tummy ( I hate the name pouch). I paid a lot of money for it. I want to treat it really well and take care of it. I'm just rambling. I wish the best of luck for all of you. This is a journey. I hope it goes well for all of you!!! -
My surgeon's guidelines for eating are different. I'm only to eat about once a day maybe twice, and only if I'm truly hungry. Not because others are eating, not because I think I should eat. I only eat if I get a slight headache or after I've gotten in a heavy workout so that I don't feel sick later. Some favorites I eat: soft chicken (grilled or baked), Wendy's chilli, chicken or sofritas + black Beans and guac from Chipotle, casseroles with ground meat and lots of cheese, refried beans mixed with ground turkey and cheese, baked ricotta with meat sauce etc. Mostly soft foods, but I keep everything very moist and chew. I'm not allowed many vegetables yet, but I've tolerated fruits really well so far. I've had strawberries, blueberries, watermelon and banana with no problems. I've also had tart/plain and no sugar added lowfat and fat free frozen yogurt, which I also tolerate really well. Back at work, back in the gym and down 26 lbs since surgery and 54 lbs overall.

Best yogurt to eat post OP?
butterfly23 replied to KM1284's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All "greek" yogurts are not the same. True greek yogurt is extensively strained to get the whey out which then leads to thicker, more condensed yogurt with more Protein.... Yoplait (and others) are not true greek yogurt as they use additives and fillers to thicken the yogurt, so if you are concerned about getting true additive-free yogurt, check the label for things like guar gum and pectin, carrageenan, sodium citrate, potassium sorbate, corn starch. I know this doesn't matter to everyone, but it did to me when I learned so thought I would share. I personally eat Fage, which as no fillers, additives etc added. http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2012/07/19/156997600/high-tech-shortcut-to-greek-yogurt-leaves-purists-fuming -
Eating 4-5 times a day is what my program called for...all mini meals. Protein first, veggies next, then fruit and then a bite or two of carby food. Veggies and fruit have carbs in them too (so does yogurt, Protein drinks etc.) and that is fine as long as it is moderate. Be sure you are drinking enough Water and taking an acid inhibitor because acid mimics hunger. Are you exercising? To me sounds like you are doing just fine!

If the texture of Greek bothers you try the Yoplait whips Greek yogurt! -
The pre-op diets vary from surgeon to surgeon...mine was eating every two hours...i could interchange light yogurt, sf pudding and sugar free applesauce...8 ounces of gatorade a day and a protein shake for lunch and dinner free foods were chicken broth and sf jello Some report being allowed to eat light meals at dinner and various other combinations Ask your nutritionist and I am sure they can give you a copy of what they follow

Thank you all for commenting. Will try and wait a little longer on watermelon. I do put blueberries and strawberries in my yogurt now and that helps me get through the yogurt! Thank you!!

What is feeling full post sleeved feel like?
Brigiter replied to Brigiter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, feel same way here! I can eat a whole yogurt of 150g with no problem, and don't really feel fullness sensation I should be expecting or as it was before, I have no problems drinking liquids at all actually gulping it down is no problem for me... I even can tolerate eating my liquids Soups and at the same time drinking Water etc, I guess that will change with solids... My Dr. Is an expert over 700 sleeves if not I would be doubting my result, only sensation is discomfort when I push to eat more I stop due to get scared for my new tummy but not really because I need to stop or feel full! I had the band for 4 years and that enlarged my pouch a bit maybe that's why, at this point I so hope afterwards I will be able to know this better... Had that my sleeve really works -
Hello All i need a little help coming up with some recipes for my pureed/soft food stage of my diet. My doctor is a lot stricter than some others. My Pureed/Soft food list is: Eggs, Beans (Hummus), Dairy (Cheese, Ricotta, Cottage, Greek Yogurt, Milk), Seafood, Poultry, Deli meats (no sugar, no rind) No: Fruits, veggies (potatoes, salsa, pasta sauce), nuts, beef, pork, carbs (bread, crackers, rice, pasta), Soup, sugar Does anyone have any good ideas for something this strict. I already thought about ground chicken, ground turkey, deviled eggs, eggs with turkey bacon and cheese, egg salad, tuna salad, deli turkey with hummus maybe. All ideas welcome. My Mom is an amazing cook so she is thinking on this one as well.
