    A nice NSV

Today is exactly 10 months to the day since my wife's surgery. We decided to go do some early Christmas shopping and she was rummaging in the closet for something to wear. She comes out of the closet dressed in a pair of brown pants. She works as a receptionist and always, ALWAYS wears black pants. She's had the same job for the last 4 years. Those brown pants have been parked in the back of the closet for 4 YEARS. She says, "These are a pair of my 'back of the closet pants." AND.....she has a little extra room in the caboose.

    November Bandsters!

Hi Ladies!!! Welcome to everyone new! Just wanted to let you know I've updated the list. It now contains our new members: Lois Lane, CJay and Sunsreturn!!! And, I updated AngelaT's stats to show her loss!!! YEAH!!! And, I don't know how I missed this...Karen's 5lb loss as well!!! YEAH!!!! I also added Jess02's stats.... "Lil" Red's I took care of on the first day... Okay, as for me...nothing new, just holding steady - trying not to give into the last supper syndrome - and ready to cheer each of you on as your day arrives! Oh, I do have an NSV...maybe if I post it, I'll hold true to it...I've given up fried french fries...okay, I've given up french fries for now. Period. One day, when I can trust myself not to over indulge, I might add back in baked fries. Potatoes are my "mortal weightloss" enemy. One day, I will completely overcome them. __________ Chris

    ABC ~ October Chat

I'll be going for another fill very soon, hopefully some time next week. I need to call & schedule, I keep forgetting to do that. I can tell I have more restriction than after my first fill, but I can also tell it still isn't enough. On a happy, happy, joy, joy, note-I have an NSV. I was an hour early to work today.(darn time change, screws me up every time) Since I had some time to kill, I went into the nearby Avenue store. I figured I'd try on a pair of 20s just for fun. I wanted to see how close I was to being able to zip them. I could zip them, I could even zip (and button) the SIZE 18s that I tried on next! Of course I still had a "muffin top" but hey the important thing is that I actually had a pair of 18s on my body and I could still breathe, sit down and walk normally. WAHOO!!!!!!!!!!:clap2:

    HELP!!! Reality Check!!!

wait, you only gained 5 pound from being on a cruise? ONLY 5 POUNDS???? That is WONDERFUL!!! And you had a F-A-B time too from the sounds of it. WOOT! Sounds like a Double NSV to me. Jenn, Baby-doll, this is not a set back. Really it's not. Let's put some perspective on this. Preband how much would you have gained? 15 pounds? I mean, seriously without your band, how much would you have gained? I've never been on a cruise, but I've seen pictures of the buffets, of the spreads.... lottsa food, right? You've lost 60-plus pounds with your band. This is no time to freak out. You just need some perspective. Now, just think how much fun you will have next time you go on cruise after you are that much closer to your goal. Strength and Courage!

    Got called fat...an NSV

Hi all, Vicki, it is great that you have a wonderful relationship with your stepkids. I had one with my stepson, but never the daughters. They just didn't like that at their moms, they were allowed to drink, smoke and have boys spend the night. At our house, there was rules and I was not going to allow kids that young do those things in my home. Now, my stepson has married and without even having met me and just going upon what the girls say, she hates me. She is posting "fat" comments about me all over the internet. It hurts, but that is ok. I really feel bad for my dh because it is really causing problems between he and them because he naturally defends me and refuses to tolerate anyone badmouthing me. Hopefully, it will all drop soon and we will be able to go on with life. I could my blessings with what I have that is good in life and don't worry over the rest. StephC and Lady Janey, "dh" is darling hubby. "ds", darling son and "dd" darling daughter. NSV is a non-scale-victory. These are other weight loss successes not related to getting on the scale and seeing a drop in weight. These are things such as dropping a clothes size, fitting into the booth at a restaurant, being able to take a walk without getting winded, etc. I hope this helps.

    I've quit losing

I believe plateaus are an opportunity for us to get used to our new shape and adjust to the changes in our lives. I have been banded for 18 months now and have had plateaus that lasted up to 3 months. Then, my body will kick in and start losing again. I also track inches and it is amazing how sometimes they just drop off. But the NSV can be the best. Good luck. Celeste

    I've quit losing

Hi Bitter, frequently people plateau. And usually when they are doing this their body is busy "re-packing." Right now, you are under a lot of stress, and yes, stress has a huge impact on your weight loss as well. Stress releases cortisol, and cortiosl is the "fight or flight" hormone, and it's one of your body's denfense in times of famine. Try to not stress about it. I know, easier said than done. Are you tracking your inches or just your pounds? What about your NSVs? are you tracking them as well? Sometimes when the scale doesn't move the NSVs just come in droves, and the inches fall off.

    September Bandsters

Hey everyone, I don't know if I should post this here or not but I figured I would since we're all in the September boat together and some of you might be having a NSV for the first time yourselves. I went over my DH's Mom's house and when I sat down in one of her Kitchen table chairs.....(you ready).....MY ARSE & THIGHS DID NOT TOUCH THE SIDES OF THE CHAIR!!!!!!!! I always practically get stuck, I mean I really had to wedge my corpulent cheeks in there, and now not even a rub!!!!!!!!!! :whoo::dance:

    update & an NSV!!

I know, I'm a day late with this week's entry. I just didn't feel up to it yesterday, or now for that matter. edit (10-29-06): I feel up to it now. I'll be going for another (my 3rd.) fill very soon, hopefully some time next week. I need to call & schedule, I keep forgetting to do that. I can tell I have more restriction than after my first fill, but I can also tell it still isn't enough. I think I'll need a fill to help me cope with the Thanksgiving turkey. Man, I love making sandwiches with the leftover turkey. Oooh, and chocolate cream pie and biscuits with mayhaw jelly. Oh jeez, stop me now. On a "happy, happy, joy, joy" note-I have an NSV. I was an hour early to work today.(darn time change, screws me up every time) Since I had some time to kill, I went into the nearby Avenue store. I figured I'd try on a pair of 20s just for fun. DR APPTS - NSV's

 I had doctor appointment hell yesterday - and it was the best day!!! My first appointment was my yearly female exam :omg: - I absolutely love my doctor!! She always walks in the room and gives me a great big hug and we don't stop talking until she leaves the room. BUT this time she walked in and stopped. She just stared at me and I believe couldn't believe her eyes!!!! This is the first time in a long long time that she didn't have to break into that " We need to talk about your weight" talk. Then she looked back in my file and confirmed what I already knew - I hadn't been this weight FOREVER!!! I actually enjoyed going to the doctor. It is great when the doctor (or people in general) do notice the weight loss change BUT also the emotional change in you. She said I was just soooo full of life where in the past I always was upbeat but had some saddness in me. (true very true). In between appts, I had lunch with an old co-worker. When I stopped to pick her up, my old boss (a much younger man) came up to me and hugged me and told me he couldn't get over how good I looked. ANd my lunch date just stared at me from across the table - and said she couldn't get over the change in my face. (ok and the rest of me too but my face tells the story) So, my last appointment was with my general doctor ( I haven't seen her since my pre-surgery physical). I wanted her to re-think my blood pressure meds. I haven't taken them since my surgery due to being sooooo sick. Once I felt better, I decided NOT to take them so my DR. could get a real me reading. She stopped at the door and just shook her head (I am begining to cry as she walks into the room). She asked why I was :think crying. I told her I couldn't begin to thank her for recommending the lap band to me. I feel awesome - have energy again - my favorite hobby is no longer sitting on my big butt!! I just feel so full of life!! She agreed she noticed a drastic change weight wise but also she is glad to see the real "ME" again. OK to finish off my long winded story...... My new meds have been CUT in half!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: I need to go back in 2 months to see how they react with me. Our goal is once I reach goal - maybe no more blood pressure meds. I even got a high-five from my pharmacist. Thanks for letting me share in my NSVs!!! I am just bursting at the seams inside (and finally not the seams in my pants!!! ) Tracy

    Green's grumblings

Neither Joffe nor Yau mentioned my giant liver. I saw Yau 10 minutes before I went in for surgery and I met Joffe during my preliminary assessment visit. Though my gastric specialist knew nothing about the lapband, in fact she researched this on her computer while I was there, she did know both Dr. Joffe and Dr.Yau by reputation. She told me that Dr. Joffe is working hard to have lapband surgery covered by OHIP. This makes sense to me. The operation is much less invasive than the gastric by-pass which is approved by OHIP. She also thought that the price that I paid was fair. I agree. It seems to line up with American prices. It is only when you go to Mexico that you begin to save and then there is the problem of aftercare - the fills, etc. As for having a colonoscopy, Yoda, it is probably best that you talk to your GP about this. I am under the impression that most docs start wanting their patients to have 'em after they turn 50. Mind you, my kid brother died of colon cancer when he was 48. He had also refused to see a doctor for at least 10 years before he was diagnosed. He died a week and a half later. Well, Green is happy that she has got the lapband even though the gastric doc did mention that there could be erosion or slippage and even though she is looking at another colonoscopy appointment sometime soon. And there is the issue of further investigations to be made into the giant liver, eh. Yep, I am happy that I got the band because my boobs stick out further than my waist these days and today I got eyeballed by a good-looking man while I was waiting for the subway. I guess this counts as an NSV, huh?

Sherri - way to go with the NSV!! What a wonderful feeling :girl_hug: Mary - each pound should be celebrated! Way to go! Born2Lose - you look rockin'! Congrats on your great accomplishment! I had a great day yesterday. I wore a sweater from my "someday bin" yesterday - kind of dressed up - and I got so many compliments! It's amazing that when you feel better, you look better, and you walk different, and carry yourself differently. I've had nothing but support from everyone and that means so much. Off to work - Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Okay guys, I've got to share my first nsv with you. As you might have read I'm in Nashville shopping until Thursday and I had looked at Opry Mills and 3 other huge malls for pants today. I went to Macy's, Penney's, Sears, Old Navy, Buckle, Aeropotale, Goody's, you name it and they were all stretch jeans and I may be out of style but I just don't like them. Finally of all places I found some Lee Riders, low rise at Walmart here in Nashville, so I went into the dressing rooms and took several sizes. The size that fit with extra room was an 18 regular, no stretch, no plus, just 18. I let out a yep that you could probably here all over the store. I bought them and a 16 for later. Now this may not mean much to you skinny people but I was in 24's 3 months ago so I'm so excited. Just had to share. I'm sitting here in the hotel on my laptop exhausted from all of the looking but it was soooo much fun. First time in years I didn't have to go to Lane Bryant.

    1st NSV

I have been in Nashville shopping since yesterday for pants mostly. I went to Opry Mills, Rivergate, and 2 others, Macy's, Goody's, Penney's, Sears, you name it, all stretch jeans. Maybe I'm out of style but I don't like them. So, of all places I go to a Walmart and find Lee Riders, low rise jeans that aren't strectch. Now this may not be a huge NSV for some but I was in 24 jeans in July. I bought a pair of Regular 18's, not strectchy and not plus and a pair of 16's because I had lots of room in the 18's. I was so thrilled I let out a yep right there in the dressing room. Yahhhh, yahhhh. I'm so thrilled.

how often do you weigh yourself?

I don't have a scale. I developed a phobia to the damn things when I was 25. The first time I weighed myself in recent memory was the morning of my operation. I knew I was fat because I was taking size large in all my clothes and the mirror doesn't lie. When I went back for my first fill they weighed me and I had lost 13 lbs. Yippee! I also had some NSVs. I am relying on the NSVs to tell me whether I have lost weight because I still hate getting on a scale. In a week's time I go back for my second fill. I don't know whether I will have lost any more weight. I don't feel any restriction yet though I am trying to watch what I eat. I do think that the scale can be tricky. Fat can be converted into muscle. You will weigh the same but take up less space and you will look better.

Hi all, I just had to share this funny NSV!! My cat usually sits on one of my legs and this morning she kept falling off, it was so funny she was slowly losing her balance and one of her paws kept slipping!! I know my legs aren't skinny but it does show they are smaller than they used to be......

My pants got longer, too. It must be the weight loss in thighs and butt. If you think about it that makes sense. OK, so NSV for me...DH took me shopping for new clothes for my B-day. I tried a 12 first...way too big, then 10...still too big, finally size 8 fit!! I am in single digits! Remember, I am only 5 ft., so I am still not all the way there but 1/2 way feels pretty good.

    Got called fat...an NSV

...But, my NSV was that my only thought was, "sure, I may be fat now, but I will soon be thin and when I am, you will still be a bitch." (sorry for the profanity). Truer words were never spoken/thought! :clap2: :clap2: You are in a very good place about your progress now and giving yourself the kind of positive feedback you desire and deserve. The best kind always comes from within....we're just your cheering gallery! You go girl!! :croc: Jo Ann
