    1 full week post op

Congrats on one week! Hang in there... If you are getting enough protein, then the hunger might just be mental. Good to keep the shakes going. Keep active! I find responding to other people posts during the "mental battle" periods helps me refocus my thoughts.

    It's a FAT day...

Yay Mini! Usually when that happens, a couple more lbs will follow right away. That's what happened to me, and then I would go on another stall. It was frustrating, but at least I would drop 4-5 lbs before the next stall started.

    Saggy Skin?

I have very little to no saggy skin. I have lost 80+ pounds. I am almost 29. I have a few dimples on my stomach-- no "loose skin" and the dimples are improving and it is getting better every week. There is hope!

    Saggy Skin?

SOME insurances will cover skin removal, if you go to the doc for a rash 3 times in a year. I guess if the skin folds rub you wrong. Because you can get a yeast infection from the wetness which is health related I guess.
  6. I'm 3 days post op. Can I have applesauce? I'm trying to get in my protein. What's some good shakes? Am I allowed smoothies?
  7. Melanie, do you have a nutritionist? Usually, things like applesauce are part of the pureed or mushy food stage, which doesn't come along for a week or two post-op. I can send you a copy of what my nutritionist has her patients do, but I don't want to contradict what your own NUT might say.

    Yogurts

Greek yogurt is NOT too high in carbs. Obviously you won't be eating other high calorie carbs i.e. breads, pasta. Here are the stats on 0% Oikos Greek plain yogurt: 3/4 cup - 100 calories Carbs - 7 grams Protein - 18 grams Sounds perfect to me. Go ahead and indulge in some greek yogurt! I like to add a little of sugar free jam to mine, delish!
  10. If you drastically cut carbs when you have been consuming a lot you can go into such severe withdrawal that the symptoms are flu like. There is some great reading out there about why we are not biologically designed to consume the processed food that made us heavy in the first place - and makes billions of dollars for the food industry. This is a great book~ http://www.theendofovereatingbook.com/ I cut everything prior to surgery - I quit a 28 year old, 2 pack a day smoking habit which was utter agony - I will NEVER go through that again, which is why I will never take another puff. I cut out sugar, all white carbs that are processed (bread, rice, flour, sugar etc.) Cut out coffee - because I am addicted - did the same thing with soda. I have tried everything known to man to lose weight - only to lose and regain it all - this time I was not going to f*** around That is why I needed to ditch it. There is a reason it is so hard to cut the carbs - we become addicted to them and they light up our dopamine centers like a christmas tree - its like putting a needle in your arm. I baked a birthday cake for my 16 year old's sweet 16 two weeks ago - and I am still recovering from the tailspin that suddenly upping the carbs does to you, everyone in my family is suddenly voraciously hungry, craving bread, pizza, candy, etc, and is cranky and tired. A couple of slices of cake over a week and a bag of croutons for the salad and this is what it has done to us when we do not keep this kind of stuff in the house. I've read on another forum one woman who has lost all of her weight and is in maintenance was struggling with carb cravings after having a single bag of 100 calorie snack bags - it is so not worth it - because once you stop eating them, you stop craving them. The birthday week set my husband up for a stall that has not broken - perhaps it is just time for us to both have one, we have lost steadily since our surgeries in may. Now that I have the first 100 lb loss under my belt and begin the next phase I am fine tuning and planning to crank up the excersize and start to wean myself off of any artificial sweetners (hi Crystal Lite). Best of luck to you - no one ever said this was easy - though a lot of folks think that choosing this route is - it is anything but. It is also the best decision I have ever made for myself and my health.
  11. I am due for surgery in April (yay!), however I have weekly music practice on a Thursday, part of which is a team dinner. There are 20 people involved, but I'm not close enough to them all that I would feel comfortable telling everybody about the surgery. I am involved in running the team, so I can't not be there. I plan to take a few weeks off at the beginning, but any suggestions on how to navigate the first few months would be greatly appreciated! I'm going to start restricting my meal sizes at team dinners now, so that it's not a dramatic change post surgery. Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

Post op diet - what was yours?

I'm still on liquids nine days out. I go back to see my surgeon and nutritionist on Thursday, then get to move up to purées and soft foods. Two weeks of that, then regular diet. So a week of liquids doesn't sound that bad!

    7 weeks post op

And I had my first follow up with my endocrine doctor! It was awesome. My A1C was 5.2! Thats right 5.2. It been like 7 years since its been that low!! Woot woot!!!
  16. I got a really good deal on 3 cans of it. 2 chocolate and 1 vanilla. They have 15 grams of Protein and 5 grams of Fiber per serving. I thought maybe with the fiber in it it would keep me full longer. Well I haven't tried the vanilla yet but I have opened the chocolate. It's not good. It's very bland and doesn't really taste like chocolate. I have to add coffee to it or cocoa powder and splenda just so I can drink it. Then when you get to the bottom the last few drinks are super, super gritty, like your drinking sand. I'm assuming that's the fiber in it and it just settles to the bottom rather than mixing into it. This is something I definitely will not buy again. Just thought I'd post my review in case any of you are interested:)

    pregnancy and lap band

Hello. I had lap band surgery about 2 years ago. Tuesday I found out that I am pregnant. I am kinda worried about my diet related to my band and my baby. I feel very selfish because I DONT want to gain my weight back. I know some weight gain is normal and necessary but I have had 3 children and I have gained 50-60# with each one. I have only .75cc in my band I think that I would be ok but I dont know. Anyone out there that has been pregnant with their band??? What did you do??
  18. I had my first fill today of 1cc. I didn't look and I didn't feel anything. Nothing. Didn't even know when it was over. My port is very close to the skin and you can easily feel it with your fingers. I didn't have any anesthetic. The doctor told me to have liquids for a day. But when I got home, without thinking (of course) I reached for a string cheese and ate it without any problem and didn't even think about it until after I ate it. I don't think I have any restriction. The good news is that my MD will allow me to get a fill every week until I reach that SWEET SPOT! He will be on vacation next week so he will allow me to come this Friday (5 days) for another fill (.5cc) The even better news is that I am down 18lbs since surgery without any restriction, so once I have some, things should be wonderful. Lap Chole Today

I am almost 17 months out and had a lap chole last Wednesday. I am not able to eat much at all.I have also had a few nausea and two vomiting episodes. I am also constipated which is something I have been having problems with since getting my sleeve 12/3/12. When will it easier to eat?

    Dehydration

sip, sip,sip and sip some more. You may not be able to get in all liquids the first week but you should aim for min. 64 oz. water daily. My surgeon required me to have min. 64 oz. others may differ.

    Dehydration

Im supposed to have 64 oz but can do a minimum of 50 on a bad day. Dont forget unsweetened iced tea, decaf tea/coffee. 4 oz of jello is 4 oz of liquid.. 1 sf popsicle is 3 oz. Make it a game, thats what I do.
  22. Hey guys, I'm a week out and I'm really struggling. I was finally able to get down one whole protein shake yesterday, but today is a different story. I went back to work today and I guess I waited too long because by the time I go to my shake, I just couldn't stomach it. I did a little better with my other fluids. I did get down a little bit of thinned cream of chicken soup, but I'm afraid I'm not going to have enough protein to heal properly. Any advice?
  23. First of all congrats on your future surgery. I had mine two weeks ago and will be starting classes in two weeks. I'm just working on my bachelors- so my work load may not be as much but I'll be taking 12 credit hours this summer and working about 35 hours a week. I also did self-pay in Mexico. During the first and second weeks I was tired at times but honestly I feel great and wish classes would begin earlier. I think if you prepare in advance and make a definite eating plan you should be ok - but If it were possible doing it even a couple of weeks earlier might help. Good luck!!!
  24. After the first 3 weeks I felt fine and at the 4 week mark was cleared to work out. It's all about how you are going to feel. For me I dont see the issue in doing it few weeks before school.
  25. Hi everyone, I have done quite well since my surgery on May 15th. I've lost 38 pounds without a fill. It may not seem like much to some but to me....this is awesome. The thing is, I haven't lost anything in the last three weeks. A few things could be the cause. 1. I've started weight training and cardio at the gym (with a trainer) 2. I haven't been overly strict in my eating (eating bad foods) 3. It could be time for my first fill. I have been very good with the amount I eat and how I chew it, therefore haven't had many "stuck" episodes. I am scared that if I get a fill, I may start seeing more "stuck" episodes and I don't look forward to that. Should I just wait it out and see what happens this week, or should I just book for my first fill?
