    Almost 1 year…2 month stall

Excellent link, thank you for sharing! You may be at the "right" weight for your body. I know that you can still lose weight after one year post surgery, but it may be VERY slow. Also, you want whatever you're doing to be sustainable. I think the goal should be on maintaining weight as well, which requires having a diet you can live with for the long haul. If you are determined to lose weight, you could TRY counting calories for a few weeks, but that might not be something you're willing to commit to. Anyway, congratulations on your success!

    Dipping my toe in!

Welcome! If you don't drink milk, you may be a bit limited. It depends on why you don't drink milk. If you are vegan, then the protein water won't work as it has whey protein in it. If you are lactose intolerant, you may find that some of the drinks with whey protein will be okay, as will lactose free high protein milk. I would recommend bone broth, again, that will only be if you eat meat products. Also, pho, hot and sour, and tom yum broth can be awesome too. I didn't have 4 weeks of just liquids after surgery, only 1 week, then I could have yogurt. After two weeks I could have things like refried beans, which were great. Will you be able to have purees? There are many foods (like bean soups) that can be pureed. I would ask your surgeon what they recommend for you since you do not drink milk. I believe there is a vegetarian/vegan thread on here you can check out.

Meg3722 said everything I’ve been thinking in such a poignant way. Good luck and may God be with you! My gastric bypass date is 3/7/22. Please everyone, keep me in your prayers. God bless and keep each and every one of you-those who’ve had surgery and those with upcoming surgery!

    Question

It sounds like you're tracking your food. I'm at 5 months out at I'm eating between 800-1200 calories a day, and still losing weight, but not every day. Maybe try going up to 1200 for a day every few days? Sometimes that can "shock" your system into more weight loss, but not sure if that really works. Also, working out isn't really for weight loss; it's for general health and also to reduce muscle loss. it's also good to help keep weight from coming back. You don't have to do too much, but it's good to do something most days of the week. Finally, the closer you are to a "healthy" weight, the harder weight loss gets. Good luck!

    Question

Hey it’s me back with questions lol. im at my 6 month mark. I went from 253 before surgery to 184 but I’m at 190 for the last week with no budge or change. I’m not sure if I’m not eating enough or eating too much. I eat around 800-900 calories a day some days a little over 900 i stopped working out because I wasn’t seeing a difference but idk . My goal was 180 and I was so close but I’m back up 6 pounds and it won’t go away. Any advice ?
  6. Has anyone on here had a revision from Sleeve to SIPS ? I have an appointment next week with a surgeon about it.. Just wondering to they make your stomach smaller again or they just do the rest of the surgery? How long to recover from this surgery? Have you lost any weight since the surgery?
  7. Yeah I do have extra skin but it’s easy to hide under clothes. Maybe someday I will get the extra skin removed. i am still actually losing weight… I haven’t stabilized yet. My goal weight was 195 but I just kept losing. My intake that I can do seems to be more in line with the limited quantities of bypass patients rather than sleeve. But everyone is different, so who knows. i am told it is impossible to lose “too much” and that the weight loss will eventually Peter off and stop. I revised my goal weight down to 165 pounds which would put me at ten pounds more to go. the way my body seems to work is I stall for a long time, then drop a ton of weight quickly (ten pounds) …. Then stall again for a while… then drop more…. i have sensitive skin and the excess skin does cause rashes to occur. I get them under my breasts, in my midline area by my belly button and with the skin overhang in the pelvic region. They say that if you have documented skin conditions like I do then they will take care of the extra skin… but it’s recommended to wait a couple years. I think it also has to be overhanging by a certain amount. (I think I remember my pcp saying it has to hang lower than the pelvis bone)
  8. Hi, I had VSG 2/10/2020.. since then I have been on the journey alone.. SW 228 CW 169. I have no clue how to eat, what to eat, how many calories etc... My surgeons office is no help, Saw him Feb 1 2022, sent a message to the dietician Feb 2 2022, still no response. I will be having my 3rd CT scan tomorrow the 15th as I had some massive pains at the largest incision that started July last yr 2021.. The pain feels like hernia but was told there isn't one there.. will see what this CT shows if anything. When I asked my surgeon about the constipation *coffee 1st thing in the AM has helped A LOT* My surgeon told me not his specialty and to talk to my PCP! Thankfully she has had the same surgery and told me to do Collace, did that for a week but it upset my intestines, Miralax gave me horrible cramps after 1 year of use.. Maybe I will figure out what I am supposed to do one day lol. I haven't regained but maybe 4ish lbs.. I dislike food, it consists of eggs, deli turkey or chicken, spinach.. veggies.. sugar free everything & fat free as well.. thank you all for listening

    Food Tastes/When back to normal

Experiencing a change in your tastebuds &/or sense of smell (the smell of certain foods turns your tummy) is usually temporary. When I first started eating vegetables again my old favourites tasted disgusting but after a few weeks I could eat them without issue. Any prolonged change in your tastebuds usually occurs because you have reduced or removed certain foods/flavours from your diet & when you have them you don’t enjoy them as much. I still find some foods really sweet but that’s because I cut a lot of sugar & sweeteners out of my diet so it’s a good thing for me. Generally the first couple of months can be challenging & cause a bit of an emotional roller coaster as you’re trying to sort out your eating choices, routines, etc. it does get easier. Because we eat such small quantities to begin it can make us weak, tired, or just blah if we miss meals & don’t hit our fluid & protein goals. You’ll work out ways to compensate for busy days that throw your routine too. I always took an electrolyte drink with me when I was going to be busy for an energy boost or you could take a protein shake. Zip lock bags with foods you can tolerate can be helpful too like nuts or jerky as you’re allowed. For a while after goal I kept a protein bar in my bag. Maybe keep a small insulated bag in your car with some cheese, deli meat, etc. I also made sure I took a break - sat & had a cup of tea for 20-30mins. It’s just all new, different, strange, … . Before you know it, you’ll be out & about, socialising, dining, getting on with life & you’ll look back & think that time I struggled was only for a short time really & now life is great. All the best.
  10. Not sure your feelings on therapy, so here's what I do/did when falling of the wagon early on - First, forgive yourself - Each day is a new day and you damn sure can't change the past. Tomorrow morning, get up. weigh, track, measure - Hell, skip the weigh part, it's probably screwing with your head since you're losing weight. Track and measure. Track EVERYTHING. You're going to fail a few more times, make the next day a new day, don't let it last a week or a month. - If it were easy, we wouldn't need the surgery to help us.

  13. Hey BariPals! I'm a So Cal Kaiser member and just started the process of exploring VSG. I'm convinced so far that this is the right move for me and I'm excited to be taking the steps to be the best version of myself that I've ever been. I was referred by my PCP already and have had a phone visit with the Metabolic doctor/surgeon. I have an in-person visit scheduled this week! I also have a video class which I believe is an Options class next week. Has anyone had bariatric surgery at Panorama City Kaiser? The doctor I have an appointment with is Dr. Alskaf. Any advice or experiences you'd like to share regarding the process, the hospital or the doctor would be greatly appreciated!
  14. I’m 3 months post op and wondering what prescription medications other people have notified they aren’t getting the full effect of after their surgery? I know I had mine approved for post op but wondering if some of mine may not be absorbing enough or something since I am feeling symptoms of what I would call a reduced dose.

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hey! I made it! just had my gastric bypass today. I will say when I woke up in recovery from anesthesia I was incredibly nauseous and threw up 3 times. The nauseous I felt was only from the anesthesia. Once they gave me good meds and I slept for 3 hours I woke up feeling like a new woman. I'm already doing laps around the hospital and am drinking liquids, eating ice and Jello. I'm about 8 hours post op I will say for anyone who has ever had a bit too much to drink, it feels like a bad hangover mixed with an intense core workout... that's the best way I can describe the feeling but you feel so much better with time. I dont regret it at all. I thought I'd feel depressed about being in a hospital feeling sick but the nurses are so nice and my room is cozy. I'm considering it a self love retreat. It's not so bad! You will all do great! Sending prayers. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hello everyone

I am almost 3 months out and struggle to eat anything resembling a meal because my stomach only allows tiny meals. I buy tiny pots of stuff from the supermarket. I got really fed up of the leftovers I had to throw away. For breakfast I might have a boiled egg or plain yogurt with home made apple sauce { frozen in a ice cube mould } or a passion fruit. Or a banana and peanut butter milkshake Lunch might be some kind of pate on 2 or 3 tiny melba toasts or some seafood in a sauce with steamed veg from a frozen packet. Or a tuna mayo salad, a small baked potato with cheese and a few baked beans, Dinner, chilli, chicken mince curry, Chinese minced chicken in lettuce cups, smoked salmon and scrambled egg, 1/2 Avocado with prawn mayo I try for 2 snacks a day. cream cheese with mini bread sticks, ham rolled with cream cheese, homemade soup made with milk and extra milk powder, mozzerella and tomato, jerky, chicken wings, however you have them, a sausage. Hope I have given you some ideas.
  18. I had bad sweet tooth cravings, but was able to get through it by eating oatmeal with some honey, or the banana fake ice cream. After about 3 months post surgery, the craving went away. Edit to add, even if you fill a cup with the sugar free whipped topping and put it in the freezer, it settles down to a sort of ice cream consistency. Just enough to get you by without hurting anything.

    Hello everyone

Hello! I’m 31 days post op from my rny and have been struggling with food for awhile. I never really cooked at home pre-op and so I’m having a hard time finding things to eat during the soft food stage. I’ve gotten snacks that my programs suggests but I’m craving a meal. I rarely eat more than 1-2 times a day. Typically a meal and a snack, so I’m way below on my protein. My first NUT appointment is the 18th so I’m interested to hear her suggestions. I’ve been eating this way for about 2 weeks now and it’s really wearing on my energy levels. I eat less, workout less and lose less. It’s becoming disheartening. I’m hoping by the 3 month mark when I can have more variety it’ll be a lot easier. I’ve avoided things like chicken noodle soup and chili thus far. Has anyone tried this at this stage and if so how’d the noodles go? I’m open to any low to no prep food options either from a restaurant or grocery store! So far I’ve lost about 22lbs since surgery. Thank you everyone!
  20. I haven't done anything yet, and in fact am still wearing my old clothes, which s getting a bit ridiculous now. You have inspired me - firstly I will rummage out my smaller clothing from the loft (very dusty I suspect!!) and if there's nothing suitable there, buy at least one pair of jeans and one top I can wear outside the house without embarrassment. I have a short vacation in a few weeks that I would have done anyway, but I cannot WAIT to see how much spare there is in the seat belt on the plane. Woop!

I did pureed and I think it depends on your taste and whether the texture suits you. My faves were honestly just my family's dinner pureed. Best thing I ever tasted in my life was roast lamb with veg and gravy but blended to a babyfood consistency. Soup is good because you can just use a blender for any lumps - if you make your own add lentils or potatoes to thicken them up. Thin porridge with apple sauce. Well done on getting to two weeks - that's the hardest part done for most of us. 😍

I don't remember doing pureed. I think I did liquids for 3 weeks then to soft foods and regular foods. I still drink protein shakes.
  23. I had sleeve to by-pass surgery two weeks ago today. Although I feel good overall, I’m extremely cold most of the time. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it go away?
  24. I had sleeve to by-pass surgery two weeks ago today, as well as repairing a hiatal hernia. My doctor told me that, without the by-pass, the hernia would reappear, possibly within 6 months. It’s been wonderful to wake up each day without all of the problems related to the hernia. The weight loss is a happy side benefit!

    Food Tastes/When back to normal

I pretty much didn't give a flip about food for the first five months. I was never hungry and rarely craved anything. I had to actually remind myself to eat most of the time! BUT...that all usually comes back sometime during the first year, and things get a lot harder after that. Mine all came back at five months out. I wish it never did - it was SO much easier to lose weight when I was never hungry and could give a rat's behind about food! So I know this sounds weird to say, but enjoy it while it lasts! It'll never be easier to lose weight than it is right now. I had regrets maybe the first month. But I'm so glad I had the surgery and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! as far as not feeling normal and not being able to eat normally - that's really only the early months. I felt like myself at maybe two months out. As far as eating normally, once you're a ways out there are no more food restrictions. There may be some foods you'll have difficulty tolerating, but your surgeon isn't going to limit anything as you get further out. I was able to add more and more foods as time went on - and it six months out, they said I could eat whatever my system could tolerate (which for me is pretty much everything except for really fat-laden meals). I eat normally now - the only difference is I probably only eat half the amount I did before surgery. When I go out to eat, I'll usually order either an appetizer, or I'll order an entree, eat 1/3 - 1/2 of it, and take the rest home. To be honest, that's how a lot of my never-been-obese women friends eat all the time. No one would be able to tell anymore than I've had bariatric surgery - they'd just think I was a "light eater", if they even noticed at all.
