    Who does races?

I've been running for years now, started a few years before I had my surgery. They only differences between now and then are I'm faster, have less weight on my knees, have excess skin that makes for funny in motion pictures, a am not out of breathe as quick. When I first started I downloaded a free C25K (couch to 5k app). It was a good way to start and I adjusted as I needed to as I was not in the best shape. Fast forward to today, I run 5k races a few times a month. They are my accountability to keep exercising; my goal. This year alone I have completed 2 10k and have 2 more 10ks planned as well as a half a half marathon. My advice, take it slow. Don;t push yourself. Interval run/walk methods can be your friend when you're starting out. Don't get discouraged if you are unable to run specific distances without stopping. You also don't need a PR )personal record) each time. For instance, last weekend I went into my 10k don;t feeling that great. My goal was to just finish, and preferably under 1:20:00 min. I did just that. My time was actually only about 30 seconds slower than my May 10k time. Imagine if the course had been flatter, I might have actually beat it. Good luck.

Bmi of 34 how to proceed?

Years ago I did the weight loss drug route and it worked great, but had some nasty side effects and eventually stopped working. Also my weight is almost 240, I need to lose at least 75 pounds. And the other issue has become the sleep apnea which causes plenty of problems of its own, and unfortunately weight loss drugs significantly exacerbate the sleep apnea

Bmi of 34 how to proceed?

Have you ever thought of just going the weight loss medication route or something similar? You really don't have that much weight to lose and I lost 60 lbs using phentermine the first time. This is major surgery and you are only 195. Oh, I also exercised like mad.

    One Year Surgiversary....

What ^^^SS^^^ said! She said it perfectly! It took me 18 months to get to my lowest post-op weight (and that wasn't even goal... close but not goal) so I don't want to discourage you at all. There is never an expiration on your sleeve and we all get lulled into the weight dropping rapidly in the first few months after surgery and EXPECTING that we *should* be able to drop that much weight *consistently* when the reality is that we are going to slow down tremendously and sometimes stop all together before we are *ready* (I felt like my body picked maintenance...NOT me!) Anyway, I would say to keep working your sleeve. Be accountable for what you eat (I use caloriecount.about.com...free food tracker with a free phone app) and push yourself in exercise. Getting out there and working out is one thing but pushing yourself is another. Keep using this awesome tool but be PROUD of how far you have come and what you have already accomplished!

    Smoking...

Cold turkey 15 years ago. It took a couple weeks to get past it, but became much, much easier after that. In no time I began feeling a great deal better. For months afterwards I had episodes in the hot & steamy showers where I'd cough up nasty crud. My breathing became much easier and life was improved in many ways. I've owned two cars since that I bought new and never smoked in them. It's great having a vehicle that doesn't smell like cigarettes or have that film build up on your windshield (same junk was building up in my lungs while smoking). Getting past smoking was a huge hurdle in my life. You will feel so much better. Combine that with the relief you'll get through upcoming weight loss.......you'll feel like a lottery winner. Good luck. It's worth it !!!!

  8. Can anybody tell me if the size of a sleeved stomach is a standard thing or does it vary from person to person? I had my band removed three months ago and gained back 21lbs in that time - so am worried that my sleeve will be bigger than a standard sleeve because I dont have that much weight to lose. I just dont want to be able to eat larger portion sizes than I could with the band as I know that is what kept my weight off for 10 years. I hear about everybody being happy with the conversion but if there is anybody in a similar situation to me who could tell me how much they lost after surgery and whether they actually lost more than their goal weight because they were not that overweight at the time of revision. Thank you in advance kind people. Sent from my SM-G955F using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Hi there, I am also a nurse. I was banded on 5/08. To date i have lost 95 pounds. I would like to lose 25 more. It seems as though I am stuck at my current weight. I exercise one hour per day six days a week. No matter what I try, I can't seem to lose another pound. I tried eating protein bars instead of two meals per day, eating one regular meal. Still nothing. I don't know what else to to. I have been reading about a 5 day pouch test. Thought about it. I need a buddy whose been there.

    just wait?

i actually posted this question on insurance board, but am hoping to get more responses on this one! i spoke with my bariatric clinic when i faxed them my insurance card which takes effect 1/1/07, and she said that she'll send in a request for payment. until then i just have to sit and wait for a response. this doesn't sound right to me! isn't this when i should be giving my insurance company all my ww weight books and all my other methods of weight loss that i've tried with no success? i just feel that this is precious time that's being wasted! she said they have to get the initial approval before i can go see the psychologist...which costs $800!!! i bout fell over!!! i guess what i'm wondering if i really do have to wait for a denial before i get a chance to show my insurance company what i've tried? seems like a run-around to me! hope to hear some insight on this! :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

    Divorce and surgery

70lbs in two months is nuts! (At least I'm sure that is what he is thinking!). It will take some time for him to get used to the new you. You say he is rude, but is he behaving outrageously, or just a little off balance? Has he indicated a desire to leave? Take a breath, most likely it doesn't mean the end of the relationship. Please don't try to gain the weight back! Family couseling might help a ton. You are worthy of being normal sized and healthy. Do not let anyone make you feel guilty about doing something for your own health. If the doctor told him he needed to have surgery or take a pill to be healthy, would you deny him that? Of course not! This is no different... Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Divorce and surgery

There are a lot of possible reasons spouses leave or separate after the surgery. It is hard to tell. All I can say is I'm sorry this is happening!! Going through this is hard enough. Way to go on your weight-loss btw. Go back to why you had the surgery and why you are making these changes. Remind yourself of that Therapy can be helpful and there are a lot of good options. It might take a few sessions or therapists (not all therapists/therapies are created equal) I hope someone can help you more than I can but I send you love and prayers. Very little weight loss!

12 pounds in a month may not seem like a lot your first month post op but 12lbs is pretty great! @JamesMarusek gave some great advice. A lot of what I have to contribute is already in that post. But seriously - Right now focus on getting in your fluids, vitamins and protein as best as you can. Sip, sip, sip... Trying different things is important. As you are able to give your body more of the 3 key things, move more and as your body heals from surgery more weight-loss will happen. Keep your spirits up and good luck!

    Very little weight loss!

I was never able to get my water intake enough until 1 year post op. I sipped water throughout the day and had protein shakes on ice. Make sure you're walking daily. The Weight will come off. But don't look at the speed it comes off....the numbers start to add up and then 4 months later you will be down 50 pounds. J
  15. I had my gastric bypass surgery a little over 2 years now. I lost 85 lbs, the just stopped losing. I was ok with that, of course I want to still lose more. I maintained that weight for a year and a half, almost. In the last 2 months, I have gained 10 to 15 lbs. Its killing me, I feel terrible. My weakness is sweets. Can't seem to get enough of them. Does anyone have any alternatives, or recipes for cookies, cakes, any kind of sweets? Or what are some good healthy recipes for snacks? Would love any kind of help. CANT STOP EATING !

It's good that you have found a new doctor that you are comfortable with. You remind me of a child who knows to not walk out in the street, but goes out there, anyway. I think almost everyone on the forum, including yourself, are nutrition experts by now. You know what to do. You just have to decide if you value yourself as being worth the effort. Per your medication reference. At one point I had to go back on Lyrica and immediately gained ten pounds in two weeks. I had to stop it and suffer with my neuropathies for another three weeks while waiting on an appointment with the pain clinic. It has taken me two months to get those ten pounds back down. I am rooting for you to regain control of your health. Hugs from Chicago.

  19. Glad to have found this group. Believe it or not I am 50 and am glad to be part of this group. I got my first tattoo about 5 years to Celebrate the life of my mother that passed. She is also my inspiration to get this weight off. She left this world way too soon. Her death certificate does not say she died of obestity, but the complications of her obesity, lead to her early death. I celebrated by approval for my surgery with a butterfly that is flying away. I put it on my chest, so that everytime I look in the mirror, it reminds me of this gift and to make the most of it. On a side note, not that I have the bug, I added another set of butterflies and flowers to represent my kids and grandkids. The reasons why I need to get my health back, so I can be a part of their lives for a long time!!

    Insurance doesn't cover......

Allexandra, thank you for your help. I have insurance through a company, actually it is through my church, and diocese. It would be a large group plan. I called the office to discuss this, and they will find out if they can change the coverage. When I spoke to my insurance company today, they told me that the exclusion is for any weight loss surgery or programs. If my doctors' give them evidence to show that this is for my health and not just to lose weight, do you think that would work? Thanx again for what you do.

    I Am Offically Approved !!!!!

Well I started first of January with the 3 month thing too. My doctor required one last visit to PCP for a full 3 months with him. I lost and gained several pounds and hope that doesn't hurt my approval process. Thanks for the phone number for Aetna approval. I'm waiting to hear from surgeon as to when they submitted everything. I'm really excited for you with a surgery date. I am in North Dallas, Texas. Where are you?
  22. Hello fellow sleevers, I am excited and nervous at the same time. I have my pre opt appt today with my surgeon and I'm not sure exactly what to expect. Honestly this whole process has been going by so quick that I can't even believe my surgery is less than 3 weeks away on february 6th. I have already started my short term disability process with my employer so i'm ready to go!! Naturally, i keep going back and forth with myself fearing that I am not making the right decision. Reading your posts about the progress some of you are making gives me hope, and lets me know that I am making the right decision for me as well as my family. Like l've said in previous posts, I have 2 children, a 5 year old little girl (who will be turning 6 feb 3rd) and a 18 month old little boy. I want to be able to live a much healthier life for them. As far as the insurance approval goes, my surgeons office hasn't really mentioned anything about it. I asked one question about it during my first visit (back in November) and he said a lady from his office would take care of that. I called on my own and talked to a customer service rep( I have United Healthcare Choice Plus) who stated that my policy did cover the sleeve with a bmi of 40+, or 35+ with comorbities (i have high blood pressure). There was nothing in my policy about a supervised weight loss time period. My doctors office seems to feel like the insurance approval portion of the process is "easy". I guess I'm a little nervous about being denied for some reason. I really want this surgery. My doctor gave me my surgery date at my 2nd appt with him in December. Has anyone elso gone through an easy insurance approval process like this?? Oh and can someone tell me what I should expect to happen at my pre-op visit today. I know I should just wait since its only 8 hours away but as you can see I am very impatient!
  23. We had almost the same conversation almost 3 years ago now, only DH wanted the surgery and I was worried about un-insured complications. It worried me a LOT. But then our doctor told us that if DH didn't lose weight, he wouldn't be here in 10 years. Scary when you are 41. So, in a way it was much less a gamble for him. For me, my health wasn't that bad. My surgeon said my health history was boring! But I couldn't do the things I wanted. And since I'd tried everthing more then once, I knew I wasn't going to do it without surgery. It does sound like you and your DH are able to talk things through, and be honest with each other, that's a very good thing.
  24. So it's been 10 days since my surgery and I'm down 18.8 lbs from then. Well at least I WAS. Now in like a day I've put back on 4 lbs. Granted I did just start eat the mushy food. Also, I just started my period so it could be Water weight. But either way I'm absolutely FREAKING OUT about putting on the lbs. Did this happen to anyone else? I've never been more depressed about a little weight in my life and I'm feeling completely horrible about myself.
