Really Struggling - advice needed
Jaelzion replied to jackie1533's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's actually pretty common after surgery to go through a period where you feel like "What have I done to myself!?!" The early days of recovery can be really tough. Like you, I had a lot of post-op pain and I struggled to hydrate (have you tried clear protein drinks - not shakes? They helped me a lot early on.) I remember how awful I felt in the early days but fortunately it gets better pretty quickly. By week three I had no pain issues, I could sleep more comfortably, and I felt more myself. It's hard to say what might have given you hives - are you doing anything different? Using a new product? Taking a new kind of vitamin? Or did the ER use something or give you something you may be allergic to? It may take a process of elimination to figure that one out. As for generally feeling yucky, I promise it gets better. Hang in there! Hugs.🤗 -
Using Actigal/Ursodiol and hair loss????
RhondaLynn posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 weeks post op, for some reason I didn't get the actigal or the generic ursodiol prescription when I left the hospital. I had my 2 week check up with the doc yesterday and asked him about it. I was suppose to get the Rx and didn't. I went yesterday and filled it, while reading the info on the drug ursodiol which is generic actigal I read that one of the side effects is ......."hair LOSS" Ok.. could part of OUR hairloss also be from these drugs??? I know that surgery/rapid weight loss can cause hair loss, but we are suppose to take this medicine for 6 months.. that is about the time line that most folks lose so much hair.. Now that I've ranted.. can some of you veterans come in and say something? I really, really don't want to lose what little hair I have. Rhonda -
Hey all! I was banded on 6/23. I am now on stage three. I know this mught sound gross but my BM shedule is way off. I feel bloaty and go every 2 two days or so. Is this normal? Well, I made it through with my two week liquid diet. And I'm still alive! I will be going into the hospital in a few hours and I can’t sleep. Wish me good luck!
-
The plan from my surgeon was 1 week of clear liquids, 2 weeks of full liquids, 3 weeks of mushies, then on to regular food. Mine is a little extreme compared to most I've read about here. I started on full liquids 2 days early and started on mushies 3 days early. Still on mushies and won't have a fill until April 16th. My surgeon's rule for fills is 2/2/2. 2 days of clear, 2 days of full, 2 days of mushies after every fill.

Woo hoo!!!!! My dr. office called today and my surgery date is set! I’m excited and terrified all at the same time. It’s such an awesome feeling that in a couple of weeks, I will be on the losers bench. It’s been a long 7 months of appointments and tests but I see the finish line - well actually the starting line of my new lease on life! [emoji16][emoji15][emoji16][emoji15][emoji16]

Any suggestions for exercise to prevent skin issues?
Jess55 replied to dsb's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I exercise a lot, kickboxing 6 days a week. I'm hoping I can control some of it, I'm only 28, so I hope that helps too. My arms already look a bit flappy though. At this point the only things I would get done is my lower stomach if I have quite a bit there. Also I always promised myself when I lost weight I would get my boobs done. They've always been saggy and I've always hated them. The rest I'd be happy just being thin. If I cant find anyone who likes me for who I am, then it'll just be me and the dogs...lol -
Hit the 50lb Milestone!
miss_smiles replied to Barry W's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thank you for the info!! that sounds like a really great routine. I'll be 2 weeks post op monday, but am feeling good. I have been walking when I can, and have been trying to stay active. I do not have anything to monitor my activity like a fitbit I think that would be good to get! I think I should be ok to start lightly at the gym by the end of the month! Thanks again for the motivation, great job & good luck! -
So my insurance will pay 100%, no copay, no deductible (in general, though I myself am not yet approved), and I've got my consultation scheduled. Yay! This is the phone message I just got (my phone company sends transcribed voicemails to my email, which I LOVE): "Hi! This is ***** calling from Dr. ****'s Office. Just want to let you know that we have verified your benefits with your insurance company for the Lap-Band. If you could just give me a callback at your convenience. I can be reached at *******. Thank you." And I go in to see the surgeon on May 20. They say they can usually get you scheduled within 4-6 weeks of your consultation, so I should be banded by early July! YAY!!!!!!!!!

Although I had my surgery in February - I hosted my husband's three day family reunion not long after my surgery. I cooked, baked cakes, bought bakery goods, etc - and served food throughout the three days. I had decided before the surgery what I could eat and when, and just set my mind to it - with little or no problems. I sat at the table with the family - ate my meals - and talked up a storm with folks I hadn't seen in a year. Everyone knew I had gone through the surgery, and eveyone was supportive. Looking back on the reunion - it was a lot of fun and I have great memories of it - and I don't remember any feelings of deprivation. Once, years ago, I was on the modi-fast diet. For nine months, I mixed powdered Protein mix into smoothies (no calories added except the protein powder) and ate nothing but smoothies and broth. I went through Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations with the family. My sister and law and I cooked the whole shebang for both celebrations. She was suffering from really bad inflammatory bowel syndrome at the time - and all she was eating was mashed potatoes. She had her potatoes, and I had my smoothie and my broth. We had a great time during those holidays. It really came home to both of us that the celebration of the holiday with the family is about so much more than just eating a great meal. It is about family and friends, and sharing accomplishments, and catching up on what people are doing. Both holidays have much deeper meaning than just a gift exhange and a calorie festival. The important thing is making up your mind before hand, and making a plan. Then - you just do it. It got to the point that it really didn't bother me. Good luck with your surgery. If you do go through the holidays on the pre-op diet or just after surgery - my thoughts and prayers will be with you.

The double chin has been banished!!!

You look great! I cannot wait to get sleeved...scheduled with Dr. Davidson there in Dallas June 11th!! I'm a year older than you and want to lose about what you have or what your goal is. (75 lbs is what I am hoping for) A couple of questions, do you have any 'excess skin' problems, it does NOT look like it? I was thrilled to see your chin!!!! Also, your hair looks great, did you ever have any hair issues??!! I started taking Biotin this past week. Again...congrats!!! -
Sure you can. I have to be on liquids 48 hours after a fill. I was on liquids for six weeks after surgery. 24 hours? You got this.

Liquids for 6 weeks, you are a champ! Why are they making you wait almost another month? How are dealing with the new date? Hang in there!

My journey seems out of sink?
BLERDgirl replied to athena3127's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't compare yourself with anyone else. Some people have dramatic weight loses and some do a gradual, slow, but steady weight loss. It's barely been 2 weeks. Relax. Your doctor will tell you if you are doing something wrong. -
First Fill Experience... :|
kyakdreamer replied to rodriguezequal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my first fill about 3 weeks ago. The doc. doing my fill used a floroscope so she got in the first time. I did have some pain however due to some scar tissue. I plan on using her everytime but if something happens and I can't I will only use a doc. that does the floroscope. They can see exactly where the port is and where they are putting the needle. Hope next time is easier! -
Feeling discouraged, depressed...etc.
kimmyv replied to midwestchickie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Chickie... I was banded a week before you...And you are a loser-- 34lbs worth! Go get a fill. I am going to get one next week because I have very little restriction--only in the morning. I didn't gain over the holidays but I didn't lose anything from Thanksgiving till last week and this week. But I have not been working out until the last 2 weeks (just got my treadmill). I also joined Daily Plate to track where my calories are coming from etc. It is a wake up call. Enter in your little grazing Snacks and see how bad they are-- that will wake up the bandster inside you. It did for me. A month of mashed potatoes/gravy and green bean casserole made me feel like a loser too-not in the good way. This is a learning process. We have to undo decades of poor eating habits and other issues--it is not going to happen in 5 months. In addition-I committed myself to measuring out and weighing correct portions (4oz at a time). This has helped me realize that I need a fill. You are on track for at least 1 lb a week though..... Keep your eye on the long term.... Kick yourself in your now 34lbs smaller ass and lets make February a fresh start! Julie-- YOU TOO GIRL. Let's focus gals! We're the September Samuri! And September SUPERSTARS. I will check in with you both tomorrow-- Let me know how you did. -
Hi Ronnie. Welcome. I was just like you 2 1/2 years ago. Scared to death of the surgery and how my life would change without having food to look forward to. Thing is....I only looked forward to the food because I couldn't do anything else. My hips were so bad that each step was torture. I was so heavy that I couldn't fit anywhere and spent so much of my time on the sidelines. Fast forward to today and I've lost 150 lbs. My hips were replaced and I can walk with virtually no pain. I can go up and down stairs again and with living in NYC, walking is vital. I went to London a few weeks ago and walked all over the city and even biked in the parks. I've got my life back again...better than it's been in years. I'm even in a relationship again..and I never expected that for sure. Like I said Ronnie...I've been where you are so take what I say and know that you will get your quality of life back and see your surgery as a second chance. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hit A Plateau...
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to amaral1407's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stay right around 1200 calories a day now. I find that along with walking 2 miles, 5 nights a week, it works. -
The morning I had surgery I weighed 261 pounds (NO PREOP DIET). On the same scales one week later I weighed 238 pounds. Thats 23 pounds in one week. I know this was mostly fluid but here I am nine days after that and Im only up a pound and thats mostly because I started eating food and am not on the liquid diet. Each person is different just like I had no pain with surgery some have lots, some have nausea and some don't. Some have four or five fills and then there is my friend Jimmy who had to have his second one removed because he lost 25 pounds too much. Now he cant gain the weight back. Pay close attention to your body and what you can and can not do...Do not compare yourself to others. THE WEIGHT WILL COME OFF THATS A GIVEN!! One of the women in my support group lost from a size 22 to a size 6 in 9 months. If I do that wonderful if it takes me two years thats wonderful too...It sure took me a heck of a lot longer than two years to put it on. Good Luck :rolleyes2:

7.29.07: and then it was 12 pounds...
staindgal commented on staindgal's blog entry in No more chinese buffet...
Dear Plumpy Pad, So sorry I have not been keeping up with this, but as you may have guessed, I had quit keeping up with this because I had quit keeping up with me. I turned a blind eye to the scale for a few weeks there... and although I was eating better than I used to, I was eating too much... again. I am back on the wagon again, and I think I will be on the wagon permanently now because of a recent event that has hit in my own backyard. My husbahd was diagnosed with diabetes this past Friday (the kind you get from being fat), and now he is on a 500 calorie (or under) per day diet to try to keep himself from having to go on insulin shots. It's been a real awakening learning about all the long term effects of this disease, and how getting excess weight off immediately is now job one. I am doing the diet with him, and the fact that he has to do it because of an actual life or death situation makes it easier for me to know that I can't cheat either. Since I first weighed in 3 weeks ago I am down 12 pounds, and I have a long way to go. I'm up for the challenge, and I know that this is the race of my life. Hopefully in a year I will look back on this journal entry as a much healthier, and much more attractive person. Wish me luck!!! -
I had my surgery on a thursday and returned to work the nex tuesday. I wish I had taken a week off. My incisions felt ok, but I had shoulder pain from the surgery gas and it was hard to concentrate. I felt pretty good after 6 days and decided I could drive. That was a mistake too. It was very uncomfortable turning corners, I felt a pulling on my incisions. I stayed one night in the hospital because my surgeon requests that of all his lapband patients. Many people go home the same day.

I had my surgery on 12/09/08 and was out of work for 9 days. My surgeon recommended at least 1 week, glad I took a few more days because I do alot of sitting and standing n my job. Had to stay overnight in the hospital and had no problems when I went home except finding the easiest way to get out of bed cause if you just jump up and not hold your abdoment, it hurts like he!!.:tongue2:
