Am I'm doing this right?
dlsmom1 replied to niseyb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't feel my port at first either - but after the scars went down, about 5-6 weeks in, I finally found it. I think it depends, too on how heavy you are. The thinner you get, the easier it is to feel. If I didn't know where mine was, though, I wouldn't be able to find it!! -

I'm 2 weeks out of post op , wondering when can i start light bike riding and swimming???
-
Ok so I'm in a bad stall. I was sleeved March 18th, and have lost about 105 lbs. I'm stoked but in. Almost two months it's been at a stand still. I know it's my diet. I'm sneaking in bigger portions and more carbs. Eating sugar again. Starbucks. So much Starbucks. So I am starting back on liquid protein shakes for breakfast and lunch, then a lean dinner. Any other advice for me on what helped you get back on track? Also going to get back to the gym. Do you think three shakes a day would be ok? Thanks in advance!

Sticking to the liquid amounts listed on my post op instructions
fatty2hottie replied to newfydog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Think of your band as a funnel...essentially that's all it is. Liquids go through the band fast, leaving you hungry. solid food goes through very slowly leaving you full longer. Drink when you are thirsty. It's very difficult to stretch your pouch with liquids, but you should still take it slow. The amount you drink, especially the low calorie drinks, doesn't matter as much. You were banded over a week ago so a lot of the swelling has subsided. After another week you will most likely feel little to no restriction, especially if your band is empty. You will feel like you can eat/drink a lot more. I never really counted my ounces after I was banded. I drank my 8oz Protein shake all at once (sipping). -
Well, it's over! I was a little nervous b/c I truly didn't know what to expect. I mean, I've read others' stories but until you experience it yourself, you just don't know. It also seems my surgeon tends to do things a little differently too, so I had NO CLUE what might happen today. For once he was happy with me (he hasn't been thrilled the last 2 appts.). I've lost 12lbs in the 6 weeks since surgery (I weighed 198 on their scale) and I'm healing well. He added 1.5ccs. He had given me 1.5 at surgery and since I had such good restriction for the first 5 weeks, (I just started getting more hungry this last week) he decided that another 1.5 should be fine for now. Fill itself went well. I don't like needles in general and I really don't like this one in particular. Damn thing hurts! Couldn't react though b/c my 2yr old was with me! Felt fine, could swallow Water, etc. By the time I got back to the car, I was feeling sick. For a good hour, I felt sick and just "off." Almost like soon after surgery again. He is totally AGAINST Protein shakes now that I'm on foods. Told me to eat normal but slower to make sure everything was fine. If I was having some problems, go back to soft foods. So, a few hours later, feeling better and since it'd been like 5 hours since I'd last eaten, ate a few bites of something. About 10 minutes later, not feeling so good. Nauseous and stomach just NOT happy. Nothing happened but as I'm driving down the road, I'm looking for places I can pull off if I have too! So not interested in food tonight. Gas is back with a vengeance (I don't understand that part!). I'm going to go AGAINST dr's orders and I'm having a shake for breakfast! I don't care! I don't think I can face eating something in the morning. I'm rarely that interested in food in the AM as it is. Tomorrow, I'm pretty sure it'll be the same! I'll see how it goes at lunch. It may be another shake. We'll see. I'll see him again in 4 weeks and we'll go from there. Anyway, that's my story! LOL!

hi all, i was banded on april 8th and i've lost right at 20 lbs as of today. i just had my 3rd fill last week. i still dont have restriction like i thought i would. i can chug a glass of Water in no time and still eat more than a few ounces of food. has anyone experience no restriction?? i am going for a 4th fill in about a week so i'm hoping that that one will give me the restriction that i want and need!! at what point did you start feeling restriction?
-
I am almost 3 weeks out and I called the doctors office to see if it was time to schedule a fill. The girl said " If you are not filling restriction anymore then it is time, but if you are still eating less then you need to wait". That's weird advice. "Less than" what? Pre-op? Ok, so I have been able to stay on 1000 cals more or less a day for three weeks. I was starving the first week and a half and have since adjusted to the limited food intake. I am not satisfied by any means but my stomach is not having intense hunger pangs. I notice in the last few days I am more hungry and able to eat more before i am full so I think I need a fill. Sounds like you might. Question: If my tummy is not ready yet will the fill cause harm? The fill has nothing to do with your tummy.
-
I am 3 wks post op today and I am going through the same hunger etc. as you. My dr will not do the first fill for atleast 6 wks out. I think every dr is different. I can eat about half of what I used to but haven't lost any more weight since I got off the liquid portion of the diet. I am looking forward to a little fill but at the same time I certainly don't think about food all the time or feel hungry like I used to!!

When Can You Lie On Your Stomach?
judych replied to SashaWLS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
im so restless all night that im all over the place. lol. but, it was a few nights, even a full week before i felt comfy on my tummy. i dont sleep on my tummy but like to just lay on it a while. How on earth could you sleep forcing yourself to lay on your back? it would be hard Im thinking. -
I am almost 4 weeks out and I find the easiest way for me to get protein is by eating the high protein energy bars any thoughts on this?
-
@@ClarityHill Protein Bars are absolutely delicious they have plenty of protein as advertised which is great carbs "can" be high so as with many things you need to check the label many/me too, find the Quest bars delicious - yum yum you can buy them at for example GNC - other stores too but not by me probably online this/that being said............... i rarely buy protein bars because they are very addicting for me can easily eat tooooo many over a day Protein Bar is good to throw in your purse or glove compartment when you know you might be unable to grab lunch or if you are really hungry - better a protein bar than a container of ice cream four weeks PO - and you are still alive to talk about it!!! keep up the good work i know you will enjoy the ride to your healthier, happier longer life good luck and best wishes kathy

17 pounds in 9 days!
keish_lorraine replied to Carlagrant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds about right. I lost about that much in the first 2 weeks after surgery. Then it slowed down a bit when I started on regular foods. -
Forgive me if this post shows up 2x...I wrote it and then it disappeared. Yesterday I got my sixth fill....I HAVE to be close to the sweet spot! I think I was there, but then the fill loosened up a bit (probably due to weight loss). I was feeling pretty close before I went in, but tested myself on some pizza this week...yep...could eat it no problem (at night) so thought a small tweak was in order. She gave me .3 (a little more than I thought I needed) so I'm watching myself carefully. Believe me, I was too tight once and don't want that again. Fortunately my doc is only 20 mins. away so I am lucky in that respect. I'm also very excited because I started on Apidex yesterday, too. My doc uses it as another tool for patients who want an extra tool to lose the last 30-40 pounds. I can't believe I'm actually in that category, but I was happy to start the new program. I have definitely slowed down in the weight loss area and am expecially anxious to lose the next 20 as it will help so much with my running. I am very healthy with no co-morbids so I felt ok aboutt taking the drug for a little while. I have used it before in my weight loss attempts. It works wonders on the ole' appetite, but of course the weight eventually came back. I'm confident it won't happen this time because I also have the lap band to help with things. I've decided that maintenance is when the lapband will really pay off. We all have to work hard to lose weight with the lapband, but it sure will make maintenance a lot easier!

I was banded on 12/27.. Since then I have kept off 15 lbs but it is a struggle I am up and down a few pounds weekly , I feel like a roller coaster . I am as hungry as I was before the surgery but used weight watchers to keep on board and use less points as what I would normally do . so I am looking forward to this week . I however have had sticking already which I dont understand , Yes , perhaps I have eaten too fast and swallowed to quick without chewing , then again is that normal ? Rice , Toast , Some chicken .. it varies . vomiting is no fun and I am glad I know what it is like to "stick" I am just hoping that something isnt wrong . So , I am waiting for the "non" hunger and then satisfied on a small amount to find me and reduce me to smaller sizes while learning . Any suggestions ? Ideas ? How long before I see weight loss ? I am scared because I have been up and down for 6 weeks . Thanks and Happy Valentines day to all !!

is it just me replied to Bronco0605's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats...... It's my first week to...... I was sleeved on 11/20 -
Hi All, I am scheduled for surgery on 9/28 and I can't wait to start my journey to better health. Has anyone else here had the sleeve at Bellevue? What was your experience? How was recovery? I have two little kids and a new nursing career and I'm hoping the recovery won't get in the way of day to day tasks beyond one week. I'd love to hear your stories. Thanks! Regina

1 full week post op
kayzoog replied to chrissyisbetterin2014's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on one week! Hang in there... If you are getting enough protein, then the hunger might just be mental. Good to keep the shakes going. Keep active! I find responding to other people posts during the "mental battle" periods helps me refocus my thoughts. -
Yay Mini! Usually when that happens, a couple more lbs will follow right away. That's what happened to me, and then I would go on another stall. It was frustrating, but at least I would drop 4-5 lbs before the next stall started.

Saggy Skin?
FishingNurse replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have very little to no saggy skin. I have lost 80+ pounds. I am almost 29. I have a few dimples on my stomach-- no "loose skin" and the dimples are improving and it is getting better every week. There is hope! -
Saggy Skin?
fluffylibra30 replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SOME insurances will cover skin removal, if you go to the doc for a rash 3 times in a year. I guess if the skin folds rub you wrong. Because you can get a yeast infection from the wetness which is health related I guess. -

3 days post op. Need more protein
Vixynne replied to Melanie757's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Melanie, do you have a nutritionist? Usually, things like applesauce are part of the pureed or mushy food stage, which doesn't come along for a week or two post-op. I can send you a copy of what my nutritionist has her patients do, but I don't want to contradict what your own NUT might say. -
Ill have to give it a shot next week. Thanks
