    Being A "pleaser"

lately I have being thinking about being such a pleaser. Not only a peoples pleaser but everything and everybody. Not a happy pleaser either for the past few years. When you st unrealistic standards you are doomed to fail. Not only that my fear of failure and success has become a serious stumbling block in my life. My friend ( very successful lady) always says she is a plodder. She just starts somewhere without contemplating the whole big picture and adjusts as things play out.Me on the other hand needs the see the outcome even before I have started and I have become stuck as everything has the potential not to be perfect. And when the scale moves down I can be positive about the long term outcome and when it doesnt I feel dread coming my way. It is also stopping me in other aspects of my life which really needs changing. If something can be accomplished fast in a short time I can see the big picture but most things in life just dont happen that fast. So this is my resolve. In order for me to do a different degree (I have one in nursing, got it 25 years ago, never needed math for that) I have to do IGCSE math and English. That is like year 10 math.I felt very resentful of this for years and would lose the plot completely because I just didnt want to do it as it would waste another year of my life. This year I am going to do it.Like a little 15 year old.But maybe starting somewhere again will teach me the patience I lack to just plod along and finally reach the end of something. And maybe this will help me along this weight loss journey that is a journey forever and not only for now. Weight 205 today!

A Cross Between The Bachelor Party And The Hangover

That's AWESOME!!! This may sound dorky, but I don't want you to have to beat the crap out of anyone.... make up a list of about 10 or 20 stock questions and when you don't know what to say, you ask questions. People LOVE to talk about themselves. You ask one question and you'll be nodding and shaking your head and saying "uh huh" for like....half an hour.... And they'll think you're like...the greatest guy they ever met! (OH-- and I finally lost a pound BELOW my bounced up weight. Yay!! I really need to kick my own butt. Turns out I was all swollen up from Aunt Flo visiting!! I've been in menopause for a couple years, so this was a shocker!)

    Scale and Motivation Stuck!

Surgery May 13th...have only lost 19# post op...which would be ok, except scales stuck. Increased protein, water. Nothing. Decreased calories, increased calories. Nothing. I feel like I'm gonna stay fat forever...but not eating enough and miserable! Im Either hungry, or full. If I cut calories anymore, I'll just be hungrier and have no energy. Yesterday; 649 cal 70g protein about 50-60 oz water Wednesday: 692 cal 85g protein 64+ oz water Tuesday I went over 1000 calories but had more protein 88g Mon 803 cal 80g protein 64+ oz water I See dr/nurse next Tuesday. Would really like to show a loss between now and then. I am down almost 40# from my heaviest in Jan of 325... But really hoped for more drastic results, since I did something so drastic with this sleeve!

    Looking for a Pal

HI there! Sounds like we have similar paths. I was banded in 2010 and lost 80+ pounds. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I kept the weight off for more than 10 years before I started having issues with the band a couple of years ago. It was either too tight or not tight enough. Sadly, without a functioning tool, I gained quite a bit of weight. I had my Lapband removed in April 2021 with hopes to convert to the gastric sleeve a month later. Long story short, my insurance denied the conversion and it took almost a year and a couple of appeals to get the denial overturned. Fast forward to today, my gastric sleeve is approved and scheduled for 4/27. I am so looking forward to getting my tool back so that I can get back on track and live my healthiest life That is great you have lost 85 pounds! Have you been able to maintain the loss all this time? It sounds like your surgeon is removing your band and converting to bypass all in one surgery, is that right?

  7. Hi my fellow sleevers. I don't post here often enough anymore but I get so much support and motivation here. I'm hoping this will give encouragement to someone who needs it. I was sleeved in May 2013. I have spent the last almost three months in a stall and bouncing up and down. Although I felt like giving up I didn't. I stuck with the program. Suddenly in the last ten days, eight pounds fell off putting me at a normal bmi. I have to admit I had started to believe this wouldn't happen. My doc set my goal at 170-177 (still overweight) so when I stalled for so long at about 166 I thought, well I guess that's it. I wasn't done and I'm still not done. I'm now 158 and sky's the limit! My weight loss has gone mostly like this. Long stalls with chunks of loss here and there. I was 240 the day I was sleeved and my highest weight was 268. Good luck to everyone.

    Bowel Movement Post Op

I was sleeved 11/4. Had post op bm 11/10. And was it painful. Sent hubby to store for stool softners immediately. Definitely recommend them !!
  10. Take it one day at time. I found that if I had something every 2-3 hours I did not get as hungry and I could get by. A lot of this is just head hunger, knowing that you are limited in what you can eat and you want everything else. I lost 10 lbs on my presurgery diet and that was just a taste of what will happen after after surgery. My husband is calling me the incredible shrinking woman. I know he is jeaolous as he will not get surgery until the end of March or April.

    Feeling like a faliure...

I don't know how well the band worked for you, but mine wasn't so great - had it for 10 years of pretty lousy actually. I did take the time to contemplate how I contributed to "failure" and one mistake I vowed to never make again was to blame myself and not seek help and support. I think it is great you have asked here and I think you should be very straight forward with your doctor. Don't be embarrassed, you need help! I am guessing he has seen all variations - fast and slow losers etc. I think that you might benefit from some sessions with a nutritionalist or even therapist. Reality of it is, you might be slower loser then you were with the band, or compared to some other sleevers. That is painful to accept, but honestly does it matter? I have lost 160# due to my revision, does anyone really think it matters how long it took? The journey is far from over for me even, because i am now in maintenance... in other words, there never is an "end" it is all a process, an ongoing way of living. So, ;practical advice, get yourself a sleeve guidebook (usually provided by your surgeon or NUT) and follow it as closely as you can! Who cares about Cookies, this is your health and life on the line here! Even doing that, it might be more slow and steady, but you will eventually make your goal weight. I think it took me 3 months post op to really get in the total groove with my sleeve. Nerves are damaged, I was dehydreated, sometimes I felt hungrier than I should, sometimes I had no appetite... all over the board. The key is to be eating the dense Proteins. I am talking fish, chicken, sandwhich meat etc etc. If you aren't hungry for a slice of sandwich meat wrapped in a piece of lettuce, are you really hungry? That goes along ways to filling you up and makes it easier to eat properly. There are lots of "sleeve basics" that i presume you know, but following them really does help. hang in there and don't give up!
  12. I'm a newby also. I had my first appointment in June and started the preop weight loss diet. Went in July and weighed in at 10# too much so going back August 4 to see surgeon and Psychiatrist and hope to get a day. My insurance covers not a penny and all these trips 5-6 hours one way are killing my pocket book. Plus I want food. Have only cheated once with a bite of black bread but getting bummed out and tired of jumping through hoops. I want this done because my window of time is closing due to my bosses due date and maternity leave. I still have 4# to lose by Monday and am down to very few shakes and Water. If I haven't lost the prescribed amount he will make me wait another month.
  13. I start a 10 day pre-op diet tomorrow. Ideas for keeping my mind busy and off of not being able to eat normally? Excited, nervous, all kinds of emotions. Anyone have the same surgery date and want to team up for support?
  14. Hi BBrecruiter2000! Yep, you're so right about clothes shopping in France! I usually buy clothes in England, when I'm visiting family, or buy men's polo shirts at sports warehouses! I'm seriously looking forward to the day when I can walk into any shop and buy what I want rather than what fits! The final crunch came for me when we wanted to take the kids skiing - something I did quite a bit when younger. I couldn't find anything to fit - even at Decathlon (mega French sports warehouse). In the men's section I could get the waist size, but I'd have needed to be 10 feet tall....................aagggh! Anyway, hopefully, by next February (skiing season here), I'll be able to get an all-in-one and actually accompany my kids on the slopes! TTFN, Sarah

    Constipation

Call the dr. Sometimes they can give you a prescription that will help. Otherwise, I had success (sometimes) with a suggestion from another poster which was dose of Milk of Magnesia at 7 p.m. followed by 2 Colace at 10 p.m. Sorry to tell you this but at 10 weeks out, it is still an issue for me. I am trying Miralax now. This has been the worst part for me honestly.
  18. Hi, I was going to just post this to the end of my "elusive onederland" thread, but I couldn't figure out how to add the picture? The only way I know how is to start a new thread because it has the "attach file" feature. So my patience paid off and as of today, exactly 39 weeks and 1 day since my first appointment and 19 weeks and 3 days since my surgery I have hit ONEDERLAND! I guess I thought it would be more magical.... Don't get me wrong, it's AWESOME, but I still have more work ahead. I haven't been under 200lbs since I was a TEENAGER and that was a while ago. Thanks everyone for all the encouragement and kind words since starting my journey.

  20. I honestly feel like I have been sleeping better since the surgery. I don't have sleep apnea & I was pre-diabetic before surgery (urination overnight was not an issue). I had been having difficulty getting a good night's sleep for at least the last 10 years. I often had trouble falling asleep & staying asleep, with periods of being up for 2-4 hours overnight. Often, I would get an hour or two of sleep at a time. My husband's snoring 😴 didn't help any either!🤣 One of the (many) reasons I decided to go through with the surgery was to help me get better sleep. I was getting pain in my legs, hips & lower back & was constantly readjusting my position overnight. I thought dropping some weight would help with the pain & discomfort while sleeping. I have only lost about 35 pounds so far, and I have been more comfortable overnight & able to sleep for longer stretches than I have in years. Hopefully, you will also have improvement with your sleep as well.

Nearing my 3 months....too much too fast??

I am almost 4 years out and I lost my weight very fast!! I lost 132#'s in 6 months. Because I had stricturres and needed 5 endoscopes with 4 dialations with a ballon. It started right after my RNY, I got to where I couldn't even hold down water. This started in Nov of 2013 with my last endo dialation on Jan of 2015. Strictures are like scar tissue that closes your opening so nothing gets in or it takes a long time to go down. It felt like the food or water would sit on the top of my pouch and then went down slowly. Only to make me vomit it all back up. So I developed a Food Adversion, because I was so afraid to eat. I lived on Oatmeal, Baby Bell cheese and Cheeto's!! Which my Dr knew about the whole time. I was told that if I had to eat whatever it took to nourish my body. But up side of this is I am great!! I have finally been able to branch out at what I can eat beleive me. LOL Not one Counselor knew what to do. The one I went here in my town didn't have a clue of what to do with me. Finally, I called my Surgeon who set me up with a Bariatric Counselor. But I didn't like her anwsers. She wanted me to eat every 1/2 hour that I was awake. She had me buy BOOST High Calorie junk!! I was so frustrated!! I told my hubby that I just traded one eating disorder for another. Now for the good stuff here are my stats: HW 249 (this time I had lost down from 285's) SW 232 LW 117 CW 125'#. So I have maintained my 124# loss for 3 and 1/2 years. I really don't know if my quick weight was a probem with my skin issues or if it is my age because I had lost 135#'s during one of my ups and down dieting. I didn't have any skin issue then but I was 52 and very very sick at that time. I have had a Panni done in Sept of 2015. They removed 10 plus pounds off my lower stomach. Now thats another story. LOL Sorry that I wrote a book. I just have lots to say!! You should meet me in real life. My hubby threatened to buy a Chastity belt for my mouth. LOL When we were first married. LOL Those memories just pop up sometimes. Any how have a great Sunday. Congraulations on your journey. Look forward t following it.

    Where are the other strugglers?

I am struggling but for a different reason. I have lost about 30 lbs with the sleeve and need to lose about 30-40 more. I am bouncing up and down the same 10lbs eating about 800-1000 cals per day. I am hypothyroid and we have been messing around with my meds so my levels are low which means I can and have gained weight on 600 cals a day (right after surgery I went up 10 lbs on 600 cals or less per day) I know my meds are still low by the way I feel but there is only so much self medicating I can get away with so I am waiting on the results of my last test and to talk to my endocrine. I need to get back to my personal trainer and working out to build strength but I hate winter and tend to hibernate and not get out.

    Where are the other strugglers?

It happens nothing I can do but get blood tests and argue with my Dr. I know my surgeon isn't happy but I also know I lost 150 lbs with the band and kept it off for 10 years. I only gained when my band was replaced and not positioned correctly so I could not get any restrictions. It will come off just slower for me.
