  1. I'm at 4 1/2 weeks out I'm kind of having the same issue - although it's not as I eat or drink, but afterwards, I can feel the air rising up to a burp and that can last up to an hour. No real pain though so I'm wondering if it's acid reflux or intaking too much air as I eat/drink?

Sleeve pain - 7 weeks post op

I'm 6 weeks out and this is not something I have experienced. I do have pain in the chest/collarbone/neck but not in my stomach. I am in the same boat as you. My surgeon and his staff have not been helpful answering questions. But if you're in pain you need to let them know and if they don't care, you need to find a doctor that does. Even if that means going to the EE. "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying" HW 237 SW 226 CW 204 GW tbd
  3. Hello all! I am new to this forum. I don't have alot of luck asking questions at my doctor's office so I figured I'd ask here. I am disgusted with my program, to be honest but that's another story. For the past week I have been having pain in my sleeve. It hurts pretty much all day, regardless of what I eat. Sometimes the pain is barely noticeable and sometimes, like right now, it's pretty painful. Feels like there's alot of pressure, like someone is squeezing my sleeve. Today it has been more painful tham usual but I had a bad bout of diarrhea around noon today after drinking some strong coffee. Sometimes it feels like it is spasming. I had my barium swallow x-ray last Thursday and nothing looked out of the ordinary. My bariatric nurse says this is not uncommon. I don't have my gallbladder. The pain is right where my stomach is on the left side. Have any of you experienced this? Have any advice? Thank you!! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sweet taste, dry heaves

After surgery, the most important requirements are Protein, fluids and Vitamins. food is only secondary because your body is converting stored fats into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. It sounds like you are having problems in at least two of the three required areas. Are you getting in the required protein supplements (protein shakes) each day? How is that going? Your blood work shows low levels, generally this could be caused by Vitamin deficiencies. You indicated you have problems with Fluid intake. I recommend you experiment. For fluid intake try other things until you find something that works for you. My tastes after surgery changed so much that I found it hard to drink even Water. It was a struggle. I used Crystal Light and that worked for me. But later I found fine English teas that also worked. The liquid content of Soups also count towards your fluid requirement. Since you are talking about the fact that you are so nauseous and constantly dry heaving and vomiting up saliva. This combined with the fact that you are unable to eat minimal amounts of food, almost makes me think you may have a stricture (too much scar tissue at the site of the operation seriously restricting food intake). This is fairly easy to correct. http://www.realself.com/question/stricture

    Beef Snack

I hate to get too far off track from the OP, but turkey meatballs are great and one of the first meats that I could easily tolerate. I buy the butterball brand, 12 in a pack, and use my food saver to make packs of three for the freezer. I am still a little wary of ground beef, but soon I hope!
  6. Just back from getting weighed and, after no weight loss since the second week in July, have dropped another 6lbs. Woohoo..... am doing the happy dance round the room!!!! 49lbs off (plus 16 lbs I lost in the weeks to pre-op making a total of 65lbs), 18 to go. Am soooo excited... and I just bought a pair of jeans in an US8 / UK12. Need to calm down now as I am off to a meditation session involving Tibetan singing bowls. Need a few more laps of the room before I go or I will be vibrating more than the bowls.... :-)))))))

    Pre Op Urine - HELP

CBD is a cannabinoid - cannabinoid is the name of the group of chemicals/compounds found in pot. THC, the compound that makes you feel "high" is also a cannabinoid. No, the tests cannot tell what the source is. However, if they are CBD only gummies, then you should not have tested positive for THC and therefore it really should not matter. In fact, it probably won't matter regardless of whether of not you had THC, except that they will likely tell you to refrain for at least 2 weeks pre-op as it can interfere with anesthesia.
  8. Hang TIGHT!!! It all will come together if you do what you seem to be doing. Like was said DON'T stuff yourself. I'm 3 and 1/2 years out and I just now get around 800 to 900 Calories on most days but not all days. I will say that I got below my goal weight in 6 months. I did gain 8#'s but I have maintained my 124#'s for 3 years. I can say I really didn't have any stalls, but I had Strictures starting at my 6 week appointment and continued until Jan 2015. I think that is the reason I lost so fast as I couldn't eat much food. I did have a 3# gain early on but I lost that the next day. I'm not telling you this to brag just trying to help. Keep doing you and you will be successful!!
  9. I am close to 3 months out and get a whole lot of pleasure from my Protein chicken noodle Soup - it is probably 97% liquid (in those first post surgery weeks I strained all the little noodles and veggies out) so hearing that your doc says you can stay on liquid a long time is good to hear. Now dont think I am crazy, but I am one of those that the moment it is time for me to eat - I want to drink and have to make a hard choice - so the soup is like two bangs for the buck The not drinking and eating thing is by far my hardest challenge.

    One Thing Doc Said Today.....

Any good surgeon will tell you not to rush. If you don't tolerate the next phase you are supposed to back it up a bit. The problems only come when you move ahead faster than you are supposed to. That being said, my doc had me on full liquids the moment I came home from the hospital, which was the day after surgery. Not everyone has to wait a full week. I was never told to puree anything, but rather to strain Soups and such. Grits, cream of wheat, yogurt and pudding where all on my approved list from the time I got home.

    Ugh. Her Again?! 4/26/10

Last Wednesday (the 21st) I called St. Francis & spoke with Karen. I asked her to cancel my endoscopy that was scheduled for 4/28 and the follow-up a week later. She said she'd do that. I didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling that it would be taken care of though. That feeling kept nagging at me so by the time Sunday rolled around I decided to call & leave a message to confirm the cancellations. I said "I'm calling to confirm that two of my appointments have been canceled. My name is... My phone number is... I spoke with Karen on April 21st about canceling my endoscopy on 4/28 and the follow-up on 5/5. I haven't had the best results when speaking with her so I wanted to double check to make sure the cancellation was made." I'm passive-aggressive like that  Bright & early at 9:30 this mornin' Karen called to say that she did cancel my appointments. Hmmm... So, as I was on my way to a consultation with my new surgeon today, I got a call. I normally don't talk while driving, but considering the phone prefix I thought it was probably something about one of my many appointments. Sho'nuff. It was a lady from St. Francis Patient Registration who wanted to get me squared away for an endoscopy appt on Wednesday. Huh? I told her that I'd spoken with Karen at the weight loss center & she was supposed to have canceled the appts. The lady was nice, but I sure felt like a dummy. Thanks Karen! I turned off my phone when I was at my consultation. I checked my phone when I got home...someone from Patient Registration called & left a message while it was off! That was about two hours after the first call. I had barely come inside the house & taken off my shoes when I got ANOTHER call from Patient Registration! I told this lady the same thing as I said before - that I spoke with Karen *twice* about canceling my appointments. She was really nice about it. She apologized & said she'd note it in the file so they don't keep calling. Oy vey!
  12. I am glad that you feel much better.. i was sleeve on feb 21 then I was re- operates on march 8. After that I was hospitalized due to a lung comp. it took me 4 months but I was in the hospital for 5 weeks

    newbie here.

I had a floating hiatal hernia before my LB surgery and my Dr said she fixed it before she started on the lap band. I think she moved it so it would be below my band. I couldn't quite follow her when she was explaining it. I figured she knew what she was doing and it had to be fixed before I got my lap band done. I believe that is still giving me alot of trouble. Some weeks I can eat everything and others I can't eat anything. I hate all the throwing up and wonder what it has done to my esophagus.
  14. I am super excited!!! I had my psych eval on Wednesday this week and was cleared to see the surgeon. So it was scheduled for October 16th that was the first available. I was kinda down because not being able to loose any weight what's stressed me out. Then about 10 minutes ago I got a call from the office. There was a cancellation so they want me to come in next Wednesday. I'm thrilled beyond words. The nurse let me know that they will submit my paperwork to insurance after this visit and that my surgery should be in October. I don't have anyone here to get excited with so I had to share my news on here. I hope the appointment goes well and everything gets submitted quickly. I'm also thrilled that I will be able to start walking daily and build up some strength prior to surgery!
  15. It took me 5 fills before I got a lot of restriction. It's different for everyone, some people don't need a fill at all, while others take a lot. I usually get tighter after 3 weeks too!

    Normal????

I think you're perfectly normal. I haven't had my surgery yet, but my doc told me to expect fatigue for several weeks after surgery. He says it's not only the effects of the operation itself, but it's also your body getting used to operating on a drastically reduced amount of fuel! Hang in there and be kind to yourself and let your hunny support you for a while!

    self pay question

QuincyGirl, I too, will be self-pay because my insurance doesn't cover it. Have you researched any doctors around you instead of going to Mexico? Don't get me wrong, I've read on this site about many successful lap band surgeries in Mexico, and how much less they cost. However, in my situation, the doctor I am going to has it in his policy that any complications for the rest of my life are covered for free (that's just the surgeon's fee. the hospital will only cover complications for 2 years and then will charge after that). He says complications are such a low percentage that he's willing to cover them so that self-pay people aren't scared away. Also, for three years, all fills are included in the initial price. After that, I get 1 free fill a year. To me, even though the surgery costs about $10,000 more than the average fee in Mexico, it's worth it since my insurance won't cover complications and also because I don't have to pay for fills and/or doctor visits until at least the third year. I am assuming that my doctor is not the only doctor that has this type of policy. Granted, it will takes a whole lot of fills/doctor visits to add up to that extra $10,000, but just knowing that if I have a slippage, erosion, port problem, etc., it will not cost me any extra.

Relize band vs allergen all banders

I have the newest Realize Band 11 cc. I don't think it has been out very long. That is the only band my surgeon uses now. I've been very happy with it. My surgeon doesn't put any saline in the band during surgery, but I have had restriction. Now some of that, I realize, is from the swelling. But I am now 4 weeks post op and it still only takes a few bites to make me full...but I'm noticing that I'm getting hungrier sooner. I'm happy with mine so far!!!

    6/25/12 Sleevers?

I was sleeved 6/25 as well. I am on my 3 week stall right now...I went down to 260 (from 303) and today was back at 262..Oh well! My clothes are looser so I know I am losing inches. Look at my profile picture to show you where I am since 6/4. I was surprised by the difference. Also there is a topic here " June Sleevers! Hows It Going?" If you want to see more June sleevers! I am happy and just going to wait the stall out. One thing I noticed was bad breath..I have to carry something with me so I won't gross people out! Glad you are doing good!

    Required weight loss.. concerned

I know where you are coming from with having to lose weight before your surgery. I thought the same thing you did. If I haven't been able to successfully lose weight myself for the past 25 years, what makes now any different? The difference is that you really aren't dieting this time. You are making a total lifestyle change that you will need to follow from now on. I lost about 12 pounds in 3 months with my doctor supervised diet and that was before I made any diet changes that I will follow from now on. I met my surgeon after my 3 month supervised diet and he gave me some tips and so did the NUT. I was told to cut out all soda and sweetened beverages. Also no carbonated drinks. Increase my water or non caloric beverage intake to at least 64 oz a day. Try to cut as much sugar intake as I could and lower my carb intake too. Doing all of that made a huge difference for me and I lost some weight as I changed over. Finally, I started walking everyday. I just walked around my neighborhood and worked my way up to 4 miles a day-2 miles in the morning and 2 in the evening. Walking made a huge difference and it is important to your healing process after surgery. I decreased my pain immensely by getting up and walking as much as possible after the surgery. And lastly, I tried out my liquid diet about 2 months prior to my surgery date. I did it for 2 weeks and lost 18 pounds prior to surgery. You can do this! This is a life changing experience and is so worth it. Good luck to you! [emoji3]

    time table

Mine took 4 weeks. I've seen some have surgery the following week, and others waiting 2 months. There is too many varieties of what the doctor is looking for also.
