  1. Others said it already but yes the three week stall is a thing. Just keep doing what you are doing. Stay off the scale for a while if that helps and trust the process. The loss will pick back up shortly.
  2. yep - it's the infamous three week stall - right on time! Happens to probably 90% of us. If you do a search for it on this site, you will find over 17,000 posts on it (as of yesterday when I looked, 17, 501 to be exact. And no, I am NOT kidding..)

  4. I had gastric sleeve surgery on September 20th and was losing weight pretty quick but it just stopped in the last few days! Is this normal? Is it going to pick up again? Has anyone else had this issue?

    ProCare Health One A Day Vitamin

    I take the ProCare Health 1 a day 45 mg iron. I tried the chewable but it was just disgusting. I started the capsules 2 weeks post-op. I take them right before bed, which is when I take most of my meds. I generally only have water in my stomach at that point, but maybe I don't get nauseous because I go right to sleep afterwards? But again, I've only been taking them about a week or a few days more than that, so maybe I'll start to get nauseous. I want to stick with these because they were one of the only brands among those listed as acceptable by my surgery center that was truly one a day.
  6. I was hoping my tastes would change so I wouldn't like sweets anymore. Nope. My tastes haven't changed at all and I'm also hungry all the time. Three weeks out. It's been a real let-down.

    July 2021 Surgery People!

    Agree with everyone. I feel like I am a slow loser but we will make it!! We are in this together. I have had two stalls already. I average about 2-3lbs. Sometimes 1 pound a week. I struggle with my water intake. Don't worry about what others are loosing focus on your end goal and following diet plan. Give yourself Grace. You got this!!

    Scar cream??

    Only silicone is scientifically proven to reduce scars. It was first used on burn victims, and subsequently studied. I tried scar gels, but felt like they rubbed off as soon as I got dressed. They're also expensive for a tiny tube. I ended up using Mepitac silicone tape from Amazon. It's nice because it can stay on for a week, even with showers. If you try Bio Oil, test out a spot first. I had a terrible allergic reaction, which I learned of after I slathered on all my scars. I'm not a very allergic person, but my reaction to Bío Oil was severe.

    JMTaylor, eholmes89, & laurenantics, It sounds like you are all doing so well! Congratulations on your weight losses.👏 It can be hard to avoid comparing your weight loss with others. We need to remind ourselves that we're all different. I think it also may even out, somewhat (of course there are extremely quickly or slow losers), some lose a lot right away & then may have longer stalls. I think we all just want to get to our goal so badly. We'll get there! 😁🏆

    July 2021 Surgery People!

    I started out far, far heavier than most. My 12 week mark is tomorrow and today I'm at 58 pounds lost since surgery and 79 pounds lost since prep diet in June. And still, there are people out there losing faster than me and I get all upset that I'm not losing as fast as some. It really can mess with your head. I'm slowly coming to grips with not being fast "enough" for my start weight. But comparing ourselves is a big problem in my opinion.
  11. Good on you for taking long walks! That will help with recovery in general and especially constipation. I was still in a good deal of pain when moving at 5-6 days post op. Try taking small sips all day long (I just kept a bottle of water or flavored water or protein shake in my hand at all times). I couldn't stomach the chewable vitamins either - at two weeks I just switched to the capsules, even though I was told to take the chewables for the first month. I realized it was either the capsules or nothing for me. I have never had a baby so not sure about colic but I find burping very helpful still at 3 weeks out. Keep trying to get your liquids and protein in - focus on the liquids first, is what I've been told.
  12. Sorry to hear of your bumpy start, but I'm happy to hear things are starting to turn around. It should continue to get easier as you heal & move through the different phases of the food plan. Perhaps the sugar free icepops may go down easier or a warm broth. It is a lot of trying to see what your new stomach likes. For me, I get on little "kicks" of things I like for a bit, and then want nothing to do with them, but I think it is from being so limited at earlier stages. (I haven't wanted soups or tuna for weeks!🤣) Good luck recovering & healing from your surgery. Wishing you the best on your weight loss path.
  13. Good morning! This is my first post here, but I have been "lurking" for a while. 😊 I had my RNY 3/17/2021 (HW 367, SW 349) and did GREAT for the first 3 months (down to 292.6). Around month 4 I noticed I could eat much more and when boredom hit, I would munch on snacks. I started eating "around" my surgery. Slider foods mostly. I hit my protein goals and water goals daily, but I have realized that I am a stress and emotional eater. In my program, we have a doctor, nutritionist, and a surgeon. I spoke with the nutritionist and the doctor about my habits and how I caused my own stalls. They were quite understanding and even offered to start a medication to control the appetite. (I work 2 jobs and I am a single mother, so I was using food to soothe myself when things were rough.) At my 6 month post-op appointment with my surgeon (279.8) I was hit with accusations of not wanting it bad enough and was told being stressed should make me lose weight, etc. Ugh! At the end of the appointment, he told me he believes in me and it frustrates him when patients aren't losing what he expects. So of course, I went home and did what I knew to do - I ate everything I could without getting sick. I woke up having lost 2 pounds. 🤦‍♀️ As angry as I was with my surgeon, he had changed something in me. He was wrong. I want it bad enough. I just don't know how to cope with stress well. I have always used food to self-medicate, to celebrate, to cope with life. I took up smoking and when I quit, the weight piled on. Today I am 263 pounds. I am 6 1/2 months post op. I am tracking every atom of food I consume again. I am drinking a gallon to a gallon and a half of water every day. I am walking more than ever. When I see him in 5 1/2 months, I want to be at goal. His goal for me is 200 pounds. My personal goal is 167. I did not need the medication to jump-start my weight loss again. I needed to be angry. I say this to say that I was not being honest with myself and when someone was honest with me, I became defensive. I still have days when I eat like crap or days when I don't want to walk. Such is life. I am fighting this food addiction with all my might and I really have my mean old surgeon to thank for the kick in the pants. ❤️
  14. My friend came over with his two little dogs last night. The 15 pounder was trying to lick me to death and she stepped on my stomach and now it really hurts NEAR the incision but not exactly on it. I'm three weeks out and the bandages and steri-strips have come off a while ago, and of course I was wearing a shirt but I'm just surprised at how much it hurts. I don't see any difference in the incision, and it doesn't feel hot to the touch or bruised or swollen. I took tylenol, but it didn't help. I'd try to call my surgery center, but they never return my calls. Any suggestions? Should I be concerned?

    Struggling with emotions

    I was very nervous leading up to surgery. It's very stressful, especially if you've never had surgery before, like me. I'm three weeks out now, and eating is hard, and I know some people feel very regretful for the first month, but then they start to feel very happy once life gets easier and the weight comes off. You can do this!

    Surgery scheduled for 11/1

    Congratulations! I would make sure you have everything in your house that you need for the first week after surgery - protein drinks, vitamins, broth, etc. These are heavy and you won't be able to lift them right after surgery. Read your surgery center's directions CAREFULLY so make sure you have what you are allowed to eat. I would also clean your house, do your dishes and laundry before surgery because lifting and bending will be hard for about a week after surgery. Your surgery center will tell you what you need to stop (birth control pills, caffeine, carbonation, certain medications you may be taking, etc) and for how long. This should be in your packet, but if now, ask them and write it down. I found it very hard to remember everything. Don't worry about the excess skin. That may or may not be an issue for you, and that's probably a year or more down the road. Focus on the day by day of learning how to eat again. I'm three weeks out, and trust me, that is enough to think about!

    Grossed out by everything!!

    It's definitely normal! I'm almost two weeks out and while everything smells great, when I eat it I'm making myself finish it (and sometimes not even managing that). I would be content to just live on protein shakes, protein water and supplements, but I know I have to follow the program. I've no doubt it will pass at some point.

    2 weeks post op

    I'm having my first stall, and I'm in my second week post-op. It's super frustrating, so I feel you. I'm also struggling to eat the quantities of pureed food my dietician wants me to eat, so it's ... a tough time. But having read up on what stalls are and why they happen, I'm feeling a lot less stressed about it. I've scrambled my insides in a traumatic way, so it's fair enough that my body is suddenly calling TIME OUT to have a regroup and a think about how to deal with the re-wiring. Staying off the scale, and just taking it slower. I'm managing the constipation with Benefibre in my protein water and shakes when I have them, veg in my purees and I'm on prescription laxatives every night. So far I'm managing to be regular every three days.

    July 2021 Surgery People!

    Hi Trishk01 i think everyone is different. I consumed myself with worrying if I was loosing weight as quickly as some.. then I realised we are all different. Our body is different, our start weights are different my surgeon advised me to aim for 50% of my excess weight by month 6. And as long as I was loosing a bit each week (minus any stalls) then I was doing good. Allow your body to do its job - also you don’t want it too quickly or risk issues with gall bladder. im 12 weeks tomorrow and I’ve lost 43lbs. My total target weight to loose is 70lbs. I’m averaging/seeing about 2-3lbs lost per week now which is a nice steady decrease. as long as your following plan, diet, protein and water - trust the process. 🥰 em
  20. Hi. I just found this forum. I'm starting my 2 week diet on the 18th of October, and I need advice on what to plan. I'm also struggling with knowing what needs to stop, when, and for how long. Also, concerned about the excess skin one the weight comes off. Thanks.

  22. Iceberg lettuce is a slider food for me but I still eat lots of it every day. I love my lunch time salads. It’s a high water content food, extremely low in calories & has some good nutrients so wins all round really. Other salad greens like spinach, rocket, etc are a but coarse for me so can only eat a little. Popcorn can cause bloating & wind. If it’s a slider for you though this wouldn’t be as much of an issue. It does contain some great nutrients. I guess the other consideration is how it’s cooked & what you add to it - salt, butter, sugar, etc. There have been a few posts about it previously & there seems to be mixed reactions as to whether it’s ok or not. It may be something it’s best to avoid now on your plan since your only 4 weeks out but is ok in the future. Of course if your doctor says it’s ok & it doesn’t restrict you in any way, watch the portion size & pop away.

    Yeah, damn pleats. Love them but … That’s a lovely skirt, @Sophie7713. Would be worth the ironing torture I think. Especially love the white nail polish too. How long will you be living in your temporary home & why a temporary residence? Are you building a new home or still looking for the perfect place for the three of you? Oh my injury was a battle between a mandolin & a sweet potato & my thumb lost. They had to graft my skin back on. Silly thing to do but so limiting cause it was my dominant hand. God bless must nieces who took me to the hospital, did my washing, washed my hair, did some cooking for me. Want to see a pxt of your new winter flats. These are my latest addition. Actually, that’s not true. There have been several other shoe purchases. Hello, my name is arabesque & I have a shoe addiction. 😉
