No apology necessary! NSV = non-scale victory, meaning anything positive that comes from being banded *other* than losing weight (like improved flexibility, going off meds, getting winked at by the cute bag boy....) Tami

Please accept my apologies for my naivety (sp?) What are NSVs? Thanks!

I am kind of at a stand still I have only lost 15lbs since the surgery but I have NSV's with my inches lost, and the way my body is changing. People say they see the difference, which amazes me because it is only the 15lbs. I have also taken the extender out in the back of my bra :clap2: . That puts a smile on my face. I have had my first fill and notice some difference, but not alot unless I eat too fast or too big of a bite. I go back for another appointment Nov.27.

    Another great NSV, bending over!!!
  5. The band is working and the waist is shrinking. I'm comfortably down to 50x30 individual fit waistband Dockers and it won't be too long until 48x30. I have about 8-10 pairs of 54x30 and two pairs of 52x30 that are scheduled to be donated to charity. I'm thrilled to be losing, but the cost of rapid wardrobe replacement isn't insignificant. If any of my fellow bandsters or their DH's living within a reasonable proximity to Katy, Texas (25 miles west of Houston) could make use of these pants, I'd be happy to hand them down. Due to the hassle of packing and shipping them, I can't extend the offer to anyone beyond a short drive. Email or PM me if you're interested; I'd be happy to meet you halfway.:bandit

Carol I think when we are really tight it is sometimes indication of swelling, thus your weight gain. Barbara12 said it best "the weight has to go. I'm simply not eating enough not to lose". Claim the lowest number on the scale. Tell yourself that the bigger numbers that come back are temporary water weight because they are. Your nsv's may need to come from having a healthy day or a looser waistband.

That IS a great NSV Mandi!! No worries...in the future, if you feel like talking to the receptionist lady about the "other" part of your secret you can....but you don't need to feel obligated in any way; it is your business and you don't have to be a walking advert for the Band! You'll know if/when to talk about it to certain people. Have an AWESOME wknd in one of my former hometowns!!! Have a pint on tap at the Lower Deck for me and sing "Barretts Privateers"!

I mentioned it to Dan, and he says he knows where it is, so we'll do our best to get there, and if we do, pictures!! Just a few minutes ago, I went into the lunch room to make a phone call. Our receptionist ran in after me, and whispered "What are you doing to lose so much weight!?" I was surprised, so I said "WHY?!" She said she's noticed, and that I look great, and wanted to what I'm doing, cause she wants to lose some weight. I said I was going to the gym, eating less, and better. :omg: I feel bad, like I'm lying... but I guess I'm just not telling the WHOLE truth. Anyways, it makes my day. Cause if this lady of all people has noticed, other people MUST have too. There was that gal the other day... but she always seems kinda insincere... almost like its something she says for the sake of saying something. And of course the big girl would loooove to hear that it looks like she's lost weight. This lady, I believe. Yay! for NSV's!

    May Bandsters~November Chat!

Hey everyone! Drews, tell your MIL congrats! Myra, hope everything is going good with your band.....it sounds scary........ This last week was a bad week for me. Lots of problems at work that caused me to stress eat. AND drink more diet coke than I've been allowing myself. I'm on my 7 off (12 hr schedules give you LOTS of time off. :clap2: ) and I'm hoping to get back on track. I didn't lose anything this week, but at least I didn't gain. 3rd fill next week. I'm hoping it will get me thru Thanksgiving with a loss instead of a gain. That would be a great thing! I need to do pictures for the 6 month anniversary. I lost the camera for a bit, my DH found it in his toolbox. :) So all I need to do is charge the battery. I went to a Christmas party last weekend and I had ordered size 18 pants and top from Cold Water Creek. The top fit perfect but as we were dancing, my pants kept trying to fall off!:faint: By the time we quit dance, we were both laughing so hard I almost fell down. I think those pants are destined for the give away pile. I have another Christmas party to go to on Dec. 2. I think I will do a bit of shopping while we are in Atlanta visiting my oldest over Thanksgiving and see if I can find some pants that fit and won't fall off when we are boogying around the floor. I guess it's really quit the NSV that I can actually DANCE with out feeling like dying. Of course, trying to keep your pants up so your co-workers don't see your butt was a pretty good NSV too!

    I'm wearing pantihose again!!!

Way to go on your NSV...if I could ever find panty hose that were big enough for the tummy but not too long I might give them a try again...5'3" 287lbs...no panty hose fit well...maybe I should try now that I'm down 72lbs... I hate them, but I must admit I don't like the look of bare legs and dresses except for cute little casual sun dresses. Keep up the good work those NSV's will make you feel even better than the SV's!!!!

    I'm wearing pantihose again!!!

Great NSV. I wear 'em, but I secretly believe they're another male devised torture device like bras and high-heeled shoes. LOL

FREAKIN BAND!!! Three unfills and still problems!

Oh, here's a really cool NSV in the midst of all this though....gotta find the bright side.:clap2: I got a pair of True Religion Jeans today in a size................4!!! Ok, and they actually fit good! I think it's just this brand 'cuz I am either a 6 or 8 in other brands.:rolleyes I did come home and try on a pair of levis I got about two weeks ago. Luckily I didn't take the tags off 'cuz I have to return them they were waaaayyy too loose. It's weird but last time I lost weight it took another good 10lbs before I was in this size but maybe I have more muscle this time. The other good news is I don't think I am going to need a tummy tuck. While I have a bit of loose skin it isn't sagging or anything so not enough to worry about.

    I'm wearing pantihose again!!!

Congratulations! That's a great NSV. I'm with you -- pantyhose make me feel very feminine and like I look better in clothes. I should get a pair out and try them on....

    Nsv

Congratulations! NSV's are the best because they usually show up just when you least expect them. I had one myself today. I went to pick up my wife for lunch and I noticed as I was walking up to the door that she was standing there looking at me. When I walked in she told me I looked like I lost a lot more than ten pounds and was beaming. I felt like a million dollars.

I'm down roughly 25 lbs since I was banded in June. Prior to that I had lost 30 lbs on my own. I started in a size 26 on the bottom and a 24 on the top. Today I went to Lane Bryant and bammmm....I'm 18/20 on the top and 22 on the bottom! I've been discouraged that I haven't been losing fast enough but now I feel like it is paying off in a non scale way. Thank you for all your support.:faint:

    I'm wearing pantihose again!!!

That is a great NSV for you. I have to agree with the others though, I am an official member of the panyhose hater club too! They are so uncomfortable and guarantee if I put on a pair, it will be run within an hour. I prefer wearing dressy slacks with trouser socks. I am a comfort-minded kind of gal. :success1:

    I'm wearing pantihose again!!!

Congratulations llewis on your NSV....however, I'm with Wavydaby....I hate pantyhose too. Did the corporate scene for over 30 years and got so sick and tired of pantyhose. The burning inner thighs from them rubbing, the sweating, the stinky feet.....and yes, I bathed on a regular basis....LOL. I hope I never have to do the pantyhose thing again. I wear very dressy formal pant suits when attending functions like Weddings.....they sometimes look like a female version of a tux. Again, congrats.....I'm happy for you. Carol

Julie- That's why we all come here-for support. What is your routine like? Are you exercising? Writing down what you eat? Have you had a fill? Anyway, don't give up! Re-commit yourself every morning and just do the best you can. Also, measure yourself! Maybe you've had success there that hasn't been reflected on the scale. Those NSVs keep me going! Hang in there!

    Over eager with reduction

I think I have been a little to premature in reducing my pain killers. I spent virtually most of today sleeping! The last time I did that we discovered that I wasn't gewt proper sleep because of the pain, hence why I am on so many pain killers. I suspect that because have cut down my daily pills the nighttimes one haven't been working as effectively. I relied to much on the psychological impact of doing such a positive thing, rushing into silly behaviour! Time to re-introduce my day time pain killers, even though in theory the pain is bareable, my body and brain don't think it is (my feet and knees always seem to be in pain anyway it is ease to use mind over matter!). Had wondered why my bed looked as if I had danced a tango over it each night lol. I had a most horrible pain th is morning, I thought the band could have slipped, but after going back to bed, the pain eased off and it hasn't returned. A lady did tell me what it felt like if you had a slippage, something like chest pains, this wasn't the case with me, it was lower down, I guess more orund the bowel area, maybe the fod I ate had finally decided to disagre with me. I don't want to lose control like I did that day, eaing small amounts but very frequently which is very bad! So the pain was really just punishment. Still after all that I still love the fact, that the inches are slowly creeping off my frame, I put on a black dress that I hadn;t worn for over 4 years because it had made me look like a michellin man! It's still not as loose as it was when I first wore it, years ago; but, it really doesn;t cling and show off all te bumps like it had done! So that was a very poisitive NSV! I have a fake fur jacket which is also somethign that I can;t wait to wear again! I think a lot of my NSV's are based on clothes! Protein Powder now this one confuses me slightly. Do we have to have protein powder for the rest of our lives?? Think I need to search through the forum see what answers I can come up with!

I have to say Onderland does feel great even though it's already run and hid behind 200.0 this am. Go figure, exercise, water and 800 calories yesterday. Hope a new low buddy returns by tomorrow (my 5 month bandiversary)! Barbara465 perhaps the walking on top of the fill and liquids was too much for you. Maybe you should splurge on a massage or pedicure. You might have a touch of the bug that's going around. Take care. I'm still chuckling over some of these posts. NSV. Walking DVD just wouldn't work this am, so I began "jogging" around doing light housework. My darling dogs seeing me in my tennis shoes badly wanted a walk but they spend way too much time sniffing rather than walking. Finally I couldn't resist their pleas so we agreed to walk fast and stop seldom. We started out with a quick walk, and when they did stop to sniff, I jogged in place. What a wonderful workout. It's a beautiful day and I found another way to multitask with a chore (exercise) that's not much fun. Leila, how's post op treating you? Thanks for soup recipe.
  23. Thin people totally don't get how big of a deal this is to us. I started at 18/20 and am now 14/16 (3 months from surgery). I can comfortably cross my legs now. One direction is more comfortable than the other, though. I try to remember not to sit too long like that because it really isn't the best way to sit for circulation and stuff, but when I am somewhere that I have to sit and my legs can be seen, it's really cool to be able to cross them in a ladylike way! Truly one of my first big NSV's.

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Raynie- I totally get where you are coming from. I am in the soft food stage and although I haven't tried to eat any meat or anything too hard, I have found that I can eat way more than I think I'm supposed to. Of course, it is still wayyyyy less than I could eat before surgery. Unfortunately, I have been eating soft foods that are full of fat and calories. Mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, omlettes. I once drank sweet tea instead of unsweet. (That's a southern thing... sweet tea is the bomb!) Sat. night was DH's 20 yr class reunion and I drank a margarita. Mondays are my weigh in days and I lost 1/2 a lb last week. Very discouraging since I was loosing 7-10 lbs a week at first. I feel really guilty so this week I am back to soups and yogurt, SF pudding, etc. I'm thinking seriously of going to counseling! I did have some great NSVs this weekend though. I had to break down and buy new jeans because my old ones were literally falling off of me. My old favorite jeans were a size 24. The new ones I bought over the weekend were SIZE 20 with a little room to spare!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!! Lori
